Select the clip. Modify>Speed or Cmmd (Apple Key) A. Change the default value of 100% to a slower ratio. Start out with 50%. Check the Frame Blending box to help smooth it out. Render if need be.

Macbook Pro is slow, freezing all the time and has Wi-Fi problems

Hello!
My Macbook Pro started acting kinda strange a couple of weeks ago. It's slow, freezing all the time and constantly connecting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network after around half a minute of usage.
Here is the story, as far as I know:
In the start of 2014, pup-up boxes started popping up on my Macbook Pro. They said that I had to enter a password for the Keychain to gain access to a service or something. The odd thing about it was that I had never set up my iCloud Keychain. It just started appearing without me knowing why. Unfortunately, I didn't know the password for this due to the fact that I never set it up. I tried every password combination that could possibly work, but I didn't get through it. I tried different solutions, but nothing worked out. I solved it by simply making a new user account on my Mac. I used this for like 1 month before the whole Mac with all its user started messing itself up.
It might be worth to notice that this secondary-user didn't require a password to log in, so when I closed my Macbook and re-opened it, it would continue where it was left off. This might have been the reason for the Mac sometimes to get really warm while being in my backpack, which might also have caused the problem. I am not sure though.
After using the secondary user for a while, the Mac started acting strange again. This time it was something different. One day, my girlfriend started up my Macbook Pro and noticed that it was extremely slow. I assumed it was just in the need of a restart, but that wasn't it. The computer started freezing all the time at first. It froze when I clicked something in an application, and I had to wait like 10 seconds for it to go back to normal. If I was typing anything on Facebook, it would freeze, but I could still use any other tab of the browser without any problems. However, they would freeze to if I did anything special on other websites. Every other program would also freeze for reasons like typing or clicking on anything.
After a short while, it started being really slow during startup and use. A few days ago, my Macbook Pro also started disconnecting from Wi-Fi networks while trying to load pages. It doesn't disconnect every time, but it does sometimes. It tries to reconnect after that, and if it succeed's, everything is back to normal for a while.
Additionaly, the battery have been draining faster, and when it reached 0%, the computer turned off and closed all the open programs. Normally it has entered Sleep Mode, but not anymore.
Do any of you have any clue what the issue might be?
I have done the following:
- Reset PRAM
- Restore to system defaults
- Installed AVG Antivirus and scanned it
- Repaired and verified disk in Disk Utility.
- Uninstalled Adobe Flash Player.
I hope anyone can help me! I really need my computer for educational use!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Is there any quick and dirty way to determine what something will look like

Is there any way (rule of thumb) to determine what something will look like when printed.
for example.
I am doing a composite (hope this is the right word). It will have some people sitting at a table and I want to have another layer with another picture behind it.
I plan for the output to be fairly small (print size), say 4 x 5 or whatever.
Now, if I go to the internet and google (or mamma.com) and search for images (large) and it comes back to me, I will see pictures that are (for example) 800 x 526 pixels 367 kb, or 940 x 480 pixels 166 kb.
I would have to assume the 367 kb will print at better resolution, but if i liked the 166 kb picture better, is there a quick and dirty way to determine if it would print better (say 250 or 300 dpi or whatever) or not?
So, bottome line,
Assume my output picture will be 4 x 5 (and I want 300dpi (or is it ppi)
How do quickly look at google results and determing if they will print ok?

The closest to a one click fix in photoshop cs-cs5 is

A 15" mid-2009 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
As has been pointed out, OWC is an excellent source for Mac compatible RAM. Crucial is another first rate source for Mac RAM. RAM from either vendor will work just as well as any purchased from Apple with the bonus of being less expensive and having a lifetime guarantee.

Need the complete and correct way to reset Safari 5.1

Need the complete and correct way to reset Safari 5.1 the reason being is that 1. Even with the fix for .pdf's opening in Sarfai, they still don't and I have local copy of a html file that I use to access my most frequent sites and it refuses to open when Safari loads.
I need to know what to save so that I can reinstall it after the reset. I don't want to lose my cookies and passwords that I have saved.

Well I went back to one of my old discussions from a few months ago and found the right way to reset Safari but also dicovered that the file that my other older Mac had the same problem with, were I could'nt load a .pdf file into Safari as well as play video files, like the one that Apple posted of the Stve Job's tribute yesterday.QuickTime would'nt load so this morning got my act together and took each file that I thought might be corrupt out till I found the one that was, having to restart Safari and shut it down.

Home/Library/Preferences>com.apple.Safari.plist was the culprit. I am now trying to find a way to see how one can tell if this file is corrupt before backing it up, since "plists" are not a file to mess with.
I hate resetting Safari since it destroys a bunch of files that one builds up over a long period of time, and hate to destroy all that work just because of one file. Hopefully if someone reads this they can find a way of having Safari back it up on a on going basis but making sure it is'nt corrupt in the process.

Any way to use a quick and dirty icon like cLabel in the quick tools toolbar?

I am a javascript cut-and-paster with ability to cobble things together.
In previous versions of Acrobat, I had tools that were added to the toolbar using the technique shown in this script:

That would create a toolbar button with the "icon" that read "Flatten" which is all that I needed. I could click on it and it would flatten all pages in the document.
I used this to create several different tools, all with different names and cLabels.
This script still works in Acrobat XI (it adds the tool to the add-on tools list, and then I can add it from there to the quick tools toolbar). The cLabel names show up in the add-on tools list, but not in the quick tools toolbar. In the toolbar they all use the same generic icon (but they all work correctly).
From reading in this forum I see that there is a way to create a custom icon but it does not look easy. Is there any simple way to just have text appear as the icon as I used to do for earlier versions of Acrobat?

The problem there is that importIcon is not allowed from a folder-level javascript, apparently. Would there be any way to use the importIcon part of this from the console and then cut and paste some output into the rest of the script? Just looking for a way to get the icon into my script.

CS5 slow to get the 'open' and 'save' dialog box over networked computer.

I have been having this problem since the suite was installed, but recently has gotten much slower. Any time I click open or save it takes 8-10 seconds just for the dialog box to come up. CS1 was lightening fast - I know that was ages ago, but I can't help compare the two. I have the same problem with InDesign and Illustrator. The suite is running on a Windows 7 machine through a home network, accessing files from an XP machine as well as a Buffalo Linkstation. Once the dialog box comes up, and I double click, the file is pretty quick to appear. I have researched online and I believe the problem to be somewhere in the network or the settings. The network is quick, Windows Explorer has no delay in opening or finding files, nor do other programs outside of Creative Suite. I did an experiment to narrow down the problem - I closed Photoshop, unplugged the network cable, and reopened the program. AMAZING - it was SO FAST to open the dialog box for both opening and saving files! I then closed Photoshop again, plugged the network cable back in, and opened Photoshop. It was back to the slow opening of the dialog box. Everything else in the programs runs fine - no delay when performing operations in any of the Creative Suite - it has to do with the network and how CS is looking for the files. Can anyone help me, I am so frustrated - this is adding unnecessary time to everything I do and I dread opening and saving any files!!

We used to have a network storage device attached to our home network, but it crashed and we replaced it with another model. A while back I had added it as an item to display in the places bar. When we removed it from the network, the link on the left side disapeared, so I forgot all about it. When I read your posting it jogged my memory. I searched the subject to remember how I had made the change and found this posting from Adobe Community: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/795196 (its in #6). I found the original storage device in the places bar, removed it and replaced it with the new device. I opened Photoshop and Acrobat and both open and save dialog boxes appear as they should - the problem has been resolved! THANK YOU!

Chunk expressions: Need the first and last char position from member.word[x]?

I need to build a linear list of the string positions of the
first and last character of each word in a string. For example if I
have the string myPet = “DOG CAT FISH” then myList =
[[1,3],[5,7],[9,12]]
myPet.word[x] will let me access the individual words but
I’m not sure how to get the char position of the beginning
and end of each. Please help, it’s Friday and my brain has
left for the weekend.

After installing Lion OSX 10.7.1 my MBP went slow. Is not quick and fast like before.

Its been two weeks now, I have installed the Lion OSX 10.7.1. Everday whenever I wake it up from the sleep mode the MBP opens so slowly. It takes about 5 minutes to come on its early stage. Before it wasnt like that. Very quick and fast before.

Backup your files to a external drive and c boot off the 10.6 disk and use Disk Utiltiy to erase the whole drive, format HFS+ journaled and then quit, install 10.6
Set the drive name and user name the same as before. Log in and Software Update to 10.6.8
The install your programs from fresh sources again, then finally return your user files to their respective folders (Music, Pictures etc).
Your computer will be fast and stable again, Lion has tested slower than Snow Leopard and it's glitchy too right now, perhaps 6 months later it will be fast again.

HT1212 I have shattered my iphone 4s screen and cannot backup all the data through itunes because it is asking me to unlock it. I do not wish to repair the screen as I'd rather buy a new iphone, but I need the photos and contacts. How do I perform a backu

I feel as though I am forced into repairing the iphone before I can backup the information (photos, videos, contacts). If the apple ID on the device is the same as the one on my iMac I do not understand why I have to unlock the iphone by typing in the 4 digit passcode. This is a little ******** as having the screen break seems to be the usual prpblem with the iphone, I want to be able to backup my files when I feel the obvious need to do so (eg. when it breaks)! I also believe I shouldn't have to use other apps for backing it up (which I obviously have to pay for).. I am rather angry with this issue.

Okay folkes, you were right and I was wrong.. I admit it. But I was pretty mad though when I tryed to backup the last few contacts I needed for work and couldn't do so. Worst things are when something gets broken (by me or whatever) when there is an emergency. I needed the contacts off of that phone real fast and couldn't do it, thats what got me real mad. And btw I am a Russian living in Moscow and instead of having an official Apple store we have shopes called ReStore who resell apple devices with ridiculous prices, same thing with the repairs. It is cheaper to sometimes buy a new iphone then repair an old one.. So there.. but I repaired it and now happy again with my apple device.. Also I know the itunes and icloud are free and I do back it up, this time however I couldn't use them and had to try the iphone extractor app, which is not free. There.. I have a site using js which works until ff-3.0.a2 build 2007-02-01 and breaks on ff-3.0.a2-build 2007-02-02. I need the source and diff on these builds to debug it

It's a customer password protected site which uses dojo, scriptaculous and several other java scripts. It receives an array into a DIV and then copies portions of this array to the visible area. The user can change the order of the contents in the visible table.
I did a regression test today and could determine the last workable buid as the trunk firefox-3.0a2pre 2007-02-01 and the first broken build as the trunk firefox-3.0.a2pre 2007-02-02.
There is no error on console related to this. Simply the area stays
blank as if there were no data. On the page source the array is loaded but the table is empty. On the workable version, both the array and the table have content.'''bold text'''

I'm back on the issue because I think I did not express my real need. I'm currently using Fedora 8 which was phased out 2 years ago because some old applications doesn't run on newer versions. Fedora 8 died whith ff 2.0.0.19.
Now I'm in process of migration to a newer version and discovered that one of the sites I need to access several times a month does not show a table.
As the moment to migrate is getting closer, I did a regression test since ff4 to ff2 and I discovered that the change happened on the compilation of the firefox 3.0a2pre on the date 2007-02-02.
At the end of january, 2007 there were several changes in the javascript interpreter and I don't know yet if the problem is a bug or a colateral effect of a change to follow some ECMA specification.
So, to continue the investigation, my question is:

Quick and DIRTY Canon S90 lens correction

From ACR 6.1 choose the Canon G10 profile, make it the default for the S90, set Distortion slider to 85, CA slider to 105, Vignette left at default 100. I picked the values examining a 6mm (widest) brick wall image, then checked tracking for other focal lengths. Does a surprisingly good job, certainly adequate for 99% of my S90 images.

LR does not ship with a separate profile for each body, against each lens. The camera model info here, AFAICT just notifies you what camera the lens was mounted on, when the profile was created.
The same profile can quite happily work for other camera models too - even so far as, automatically extracting just the relevant middle coverage out of a FF lens profile, to correct images taken from a crop sensor body with the same lens mounted. (This will of course not work the other way around).
The profile's aim is to characterise the lens optical performance, which does not per se change when you move it between cameras - (although this may not be quite 100% precise, e.g. in terms of vignetting off microlenses etc, it is normally quite good enough IMO). In the past, profiles used to address CA as well, and I believe this issue was more sensor dependent (the newer LR CA correction does not depend on the profile).
If the need is a critical one, then your individual lens copy and your individual camera body can be used to "close the loop", and generate an empirically "perfect" custom profile. It's not very hard to print out and photograph the special targets, and then run the free DNG Profile utility; you can put as much or as little effort as you like into the number of focal lengths and apertures that you include. But if the supplied standard profile is good enough to save you that trouble altogether, it may not matter that it is not the theoretical best.
AFAICT, the installed / downloaded profile is likely more subject to LENS sample variation (between your lens, and the one used to make the profile) - than, anything to do with using a different camera model.
