Slow Motion with Full HD footage

Can anyone help?
I am using full HD footage 1080p 25fps, and when I slow the footage down It gives me the shutter look, not smooth slow motion!
Luke

Try Frame Blending and also try different percentages... example...35%, 45%, 50%
Depending on what shutter speed you were shooting can make a difference.
For best 50% slow motion you can shoot with a Shutter of 120.  (If working with 60i)

  • Create Slow Motion WIth A Timer?

I had asked in another forum if it was possible to have 2

  • How to get slow motion with 720/60p material in Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to learn how to get a slow-motion effect with material that has been shot in 60p (59.94fps).
I imported that material (AVCHD-codec) into Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and created a new sequence with 25 fps. Still, the material is in normal speed in playback. no slow motion...
Can anyone tell me whether I missed out on something really simple :-) ? Or is the whole thing more complicated than I thought?
    Any help welcome,
    thanks!
    Toni

Ok, it's weird to answer my own post, yet I learned how to do it and in case someone else is just starting up, it might be helpful:
import the 60p footage into premiere, rightclick onto it in your footage-list and got to modify > interpret footage. there you can enter your desired framerate (in my case 25fps) and click "ok". then right click on the footage again and choose "new sequence from clip" and now you have a 25fps-sequence with true slow motion footage.

  • Jerky Slow Motion with FCE

    Hi,
I have final cut express 4, and I'm making a movie, part of it is pictures, and the other part video. I decided to make the pictures HD because they look better, but my video is SD. However, when I make a master sequence of my pictures and video sequences, slow motion in my SD video looks interlaced and jerky. I got rid of the interlace with the De-interlace filter, but I can't get rid of the jerky slow motion. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Actually, what I did was I put the HD pictures into a non-HD master timeline, which is basically what iDVD would do anyway, and the pictures looked better than if I made them in SD, and that way, my slow motion looked fine.

  • Make slow motion with a clip shot at 25fps

I shot a bunch of clips at 25fps, but now I want to add them to the timeline so they will playback in slow motion but the audio (speech interviews) remains at normal speed. Is this possible, or did I need to have shot the clip at a faster rate in the first place?

Maybe I didn't explain my question well enough, but it does work. I placed my audio recording in it's own track, and placed the video action shots in their own video track, selected the video track only and used rate stretch and dragged it to the length of the audio. Voila, audio plays at normal speed and the separate video clip plays at 45%.

  • What is it best to feed Motion for good slow motion with optical flow?

What I mean is: what type of footage does the retiming work with best? I shot some footage in 1920x1080p using a shutter speed of 1/1000 under the assuption that having each frame as sharp as possible (little to no motion blur) would improve the vector analysis of optical flow. Unfortunately, the resulting slowdown isn't very smooth. (50% slowdown is decent but not great and anything slower looks choppy). I don't know if this was due to the shutter speed and progressive frames or simply the nature of the material (A swimmer doing the butterfly stroke, i.e a lot of splashing water) My first test for opticalflow retiming was 1920x1080i at 1/60 shutter (pouring water in a glass). Results were a bit blurry but a lot smoother. Any tips? (interlaced or progressive? slow or fast shutter?) Thanks.

Thanks for tip David. I work at a middle school, we shoot a lot of district functions with three cameras then use the multiclip function of FCP. If I bought three of these cameras do you think they will work well in that environment? here is our workflow:
    1. Sync cameras with a clapper at the start of show.
    2. Import into FCP
    3. Mark inpoint at the sound of the clapper
    4. Create the multiclip sequence and edit
We have done 50 or so shows like this with 14 year olds as the editors and the results are very nice. I would like to move to the hard drive based camera. Being in education we are on a tight budget. Think three of these camerass would work in this environment?
Thanks so much for your expert advice.

  • Slow motion with trail effect

is there a way within premoiere pro c6 to create a slowmotion with trail effect?

I hope some of the more experienced HDV users will chime in shortly but I think some of us would transcode the footage to a better codec first. Then apply speed adjustments to the new movie. Which one depends on your versions, I never did use HDV with FCP5 so can't tell you much more.
Patience, others will be along in a few hours.

  • Slow motion effect

I was wondering how to get that slow motion effect that is so commonly used i music videos. I have a canon xha1 that shoots 60i and 50i. To achieve this effect do I do it all in FCP, or is a combination of having the fps high and then the sequence at 24. I could do it in FCP, but it doesn't look clean. If any body has anysuggestions, thankyou. peace. E.

Final Cut Pro can do slow motion with or without frame blending. In both instances you are creating duplicates of frames in order to create a slow motion effect. These look okay in video but with the effects you are talking about are done with large production values where the shots are done with slow mags where the film is running at a high rate of speed to get more frames in an action. There are cameras today that allow you to over and under crank footage but mainly they are tapeless formats where you are recording to hard drives, disks or cards.
you might want to investigate After Effects version 7 or later where it does time warping where individual pixels are blended rather than an entire frame like in Final Cut.

  • H.264 export from AVCHD source results in slow-motion video; any ideas?

Hello, I'm trying to export a 1080i project with AVCHD footage using the H.264 Bluray profile.  The resulting video looks good, but runs in slow motion.  The starting footage is AVCHD 1440x1080 (1.333).  When I export using the MPEG2 Bluray profile, everything runs fine.  Thank you for any suggestions.

Thanks for your reply.  My source footage consists of MTS files from an AVCHD camcorder.  The files are 1080i anamorphic, so 1440x1080, with an aspect ration of 1.333 and a framerate of 29.97fps.  I used one of the AVCHD sequence templates in Premiere CS5 that matched the video files.
I'm exorting using the H.264 Bluray preset for 1080i.  I tried several of the profiles (1080p, etc), but they all end with the same bad result.  The video plays, but seems to be playing at half speed.  My 15-minute clip takes 30 minutes to play, even though the timline in VLC or WMP reports at 15 minutes.  The audio sounds fine, but stops after 15 minutes (as it should).  It's obviously out of sync, since the video is playing at half speed.
I have read a few other articles indicating it might be an issue with the way Premiere is interpreting the interlaced footage from the MTS files?  This is beyond my area of knowledge.
When I encode using the MPEG-2 Bluray profile, it works fine.  The video playback speed is normal.
My end goal is to edit my MTS files from the camcorder, encode using the H.264 profile, and place in an MKV container for playback on my XBMC-based HTPC.  I'm also considering exporting as a high-bitrate MPEG-2, then using another encoder (HandBrake, etc.) to create the x264 MKV.  Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Need suggestions for high speed, slow motion, sporting event to DVD

In a recent video shoot I've trimmed down a lot of video into several slow motion clips of 15%, 20% and 25%. They were shot at 1/500 on a GL-1 and "modified" speedwise in FCE without frame blending. In the past I've had problems with shadows in slow motion with frame blending on so it was turned off this time. As a full sized QT video everything looks just fine.
Being satisfied the video looked well I put it to DVDSP. When I worked it through in DVDSP (using all default settings)and printed the video I ended up with a horror show of bodies which moved back and forth and looking nothing like the full size QT quality clip. Bodies moved in one direction, the camera opposite them and at times the zoom working against both and it ended up looking like people moving backwards then forward and once in a while the shadows I'd hoped to get rid of.
I will assume that not blending did some of the damage, but it appears that the further the action is away (presumabley the camera movement is minimized compared to the movement of the players) it looks almost viewable, but on anything close the movement appears as if it is not always moving forward.
I will have to experiment, obviously, but I was hoping for a starting point. As an aside I exported the FCE scratch QT file to camera and reimported it to FCE as one large block, the same result on the DVD occured despite the tape looking excellent and the full sized QT file looking just fine also.
I guess the averaging of the compression comes into play, so what would be a way to tweak it to what I want instead of what's easiest for the program?
Thanks in advance for any idea!
    Chuck

What format did you shoot? HDV? if so, you may be seein field-reversal artifacts.
Frame blending is kind of a misnomer as far as slomo in FCE and FCP go.
Are you using a pre-FCS version of DVDSP? why are you using FCE?
I've found one of the best ways to get slomotion is to up the frame rate using compressor with the frame controls turned on, then reconform back to your native frame rate with Cinema Tools. It's a bit of a workflow quagmire, but the results look good.

  • My slow motion effect won't work... HELP ME!!!

I really need some help here. The original version of Imovie that came with my OS X worked great when it came to adding the effect of slow motion with the little bar at the bottom. I just recently purchased the Ilife 05 package and was all excited to get editing... but now I can't get the slow motion effect to work at all. It does all the rendering of the clip but the effect does not appear in my time line!!! What is wrong??? Please help me!!!

    Hey Karsten... I'm back again...
Yes you guessed correctly... but I never want to see another pc in my life. Now about my prob... I did as you said and still nada. I wish the upgraded version in the Ilife 05 package still had the slow motion control at the bottom of the main screen like in the prior version, but they have taken it off of the main screen and placed in the special effects folder as "fast/slow/reverse". and it is here that it slows the clip down in the preview and renders the clip with the red bar on the main time line. But the red bar on the bottom of the clip in the time line doesn't move and ofcourse the clip is not put in slow motion.
My brother is quite savy with Mac as well and he can't figure it out either. What do you think???

  • Super Slow Motion and Snap Shot - How To

    Hi All
Just have 2 questions that i hope someone can help me with. Well, actually, one question about 2 different effects.
Is it possible to do a super slow motion with Motion? If so, how? Is there a tutorial for this i can access?
Also, how would you go about achieving this effect?

Start with the manual and searching the online help system. Also search here and the creativecow.net for links to some fabulous Motion tutorials.
Super slow motion is not necessarily available, the term is relative. If you're shooting 30fps, you ahve only 30 discrete slices of each second and, even with advanced tools and lots of processing time, you can only expect to get mediocre slow motion. If you are shooting 120fps you have the temporal resolution, the basis, to process buttery smooth slow motion.
Hit google and search for overcrank, it's an ancient film technique

  • Slow-Motion and Fast forward

    Hi,
Let me know if you can implement these functions with OSMF.
    Thanks
    Steve

If you use RTMP streaming with FMS you need to check the docs for NetStream.step() method:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/beta/reference/actionscript/3/flash/net/NetStrea m.html#step()
Implementing this in OSMF is not trivial. You'll need to get deep into the OSMF NetLoader APIs (there are lots of posts explaining how to create custom NetLoaders in this forum).
You can also emulate fast-forward with seek() calls, and slow-motion with pause() calls This might be somewhat easier to implement and it will work for progressive content too, but the performance might be much worse than using the step() approach.
Let us know how it goes,
    Andrian

  • Fast/slow motion?

Is there anyway to use fast/slow motion with imovie 08, without downloading imovie 06 which is no longer on Apple website?

Buy iLife '09. It's version of iMovie allows fast/slow motion and many other "missing" features.

  • Ultra slow motion

Can someone tell my how the **** this man can make so much slow motion with a GoPro HD 720p, 60 fps videocamera?
    I don't understand it.
Its 100% filmed with 60 fps, but how can he do this?
Its about 4:50 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQV9jUgvj30&feature=mfuinorder&list=UL

conform the 60p to 24p in Cinema tools. If you want it slower, use Motion to retime with the optical flow setting. You should be able to slow it down 5x from the original 60p with good clarity if you edit the material on a 23.98 timeline.
