Slow movies on G-4

Help... my G-4 (1st generation circa 1999) plays avi's and Quicktime movies really slow and jerky-like. Also, you-tube and other web videos, same thing... is it my memory? I have 1g ram 440 mhz. I haven't updated much bewcause I get no cues to do so but rarely.

Your RAM is OK, however your slow RAM speed, slow bus speed & graphics card limitations are the cause. An upgraded graphics card will help, but probably not cure all the slowness.

  • Slow movie download in iTunes

    Hi,
I have rented a few movies through iTunes. The first handful all downloaded in about 20mins, they were all between 1.0-1.5g. Recently the same size movies have started taking ~2hrs?? My connection and speed have not changed, everything else I download including podcasts is very quick. I have an ADSL connection.
Anyone else experiencing this, or no of a solution?
    Ta,
    A

    Aen1:
I have been having the same problem for the last 3 weeks. My sons I mac had the problem first and as it was the old operating system, I thought it was just things were bogging down and went to get the lepoard up grade. The upgrade itself took 6 to eight hours to complete and after things only seem a bit better. I feel sure that it is the itunes interface as my internet connection still flys in safari.
anytime i try to buy an episode of b galactica it now takes 1 to two hours and until it has completed the playback is very choppy and slow.
I have a second newer imac and now it too is downloading from itunes very slowly but the safari flys.
e in Austin please let me know if there is a fix

  • Unwanted Vibration in Image with Slow Movement

    Hi,
I have a Flash animation where I have images moving slowly.
The point is a serene graceful look but I'm getting unwanted
vibrations on the images. The vibration or shaking is very minimal
but enough that the client noticed it. I havent been able to find a
work around. I was hoping someone maybe able to help me.
I have tried switching frame rates and that doesnt seem to
help. My animation is currently at 15fps but I also tried 30 and
    90. I'm using timeline tweens. I also tried Flash text and shapes
and everything seems to do that vibration/shaking/choppy movement
when I do the slow animation. My graphics have been converted to
movie clips before doing my animation but I also tried converting
them to graphic symbols instead but have gotten the same issue.
    Please Help!!!
    Thanks!

    No rotation.
The images are animating 88 frames and is moving to the side
90 pixels and up 220 pixels. My transition is a simple cross fade
    between the 2 images.
Heres a link to a sample.

  • Very SLOW movie downloads from iTunes Store

I posted this in a different thread, but saw it was already answered. Thought I would post a new thread.
Downloaded and installed 9.0.1. Still having EXTREMELY SLOW download speeds on any movie downloads. I am downloading "Troy" and at this time it will take 18,000 hours to download. Something definitely is not right.
Songs download at their normal speeds. Movies take literally forever.
So 9.0.1 did not correct the problem.

I usually test around 5 as well, but sure enough I noticed a HUGE slowdown in my internet speed after an evening of downloading rentals last week. The slow speed (less than 1.5!) continued on after that and it took a tech support call to my ISP to get it "fixed".
My guess - Qwest is "throttling" video-intensive internet use. Torrent or not.
I believe Qwest automatically throttles any encrypted downloads but I don't know if AppleTV downloads are encrypted?
My speed is back up around 5 again, and I will keep a close eye on it next time I rent.

  • Again, extremely slow movie downloads from itunes store

I'm on broadstripe cable and I'm speed testing at about 5.6-6.0 for downloads.... internet pages load fine, etc. When renting a movie on itunes through appleTV I have to wait hours for the movie to download so i can watch it.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Ridiculously slow movie download

8 hours? I posted this question previously and it has been archived, so here goes again. I don't have Roadrunner. I can't get the 8 version of ITunes to download. Always some kind of error. My antivirus is not a problem because I have been able to download music with no problems, plus I have changed AV programs since my first complaint about the slow downloads.
I love them having me suckered in by not allowing conversion of personal DVDs to my IPod. Are there any solutions out there that I have missed since my first rant?
    Thanks.

    +I don't have Roadrunner.+
Do in understand correctly, you're on dial-up?
    According to this Apple article,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1577
a 45-minute TV show would take nearly 8 hours to download and movie downlaods aren't even supported. Yikes!
Can you get the itunes v8 download from a friend that has high-speed access, or go to a wifi spot?

  • Slow movies

Today I did the most recent software update for my iMac.  Youtube is running extremely slow and when I try to do movies on espn.com or play a game on facebook the load time is much longer than usual.
    Please advise.

This could be the update, or it could be an unrelated problem with the WiFi or wired network or ISP link, or problems at some other part of the connection.
Best test: roll back to whichever 10.6.* or 10.7.* version that was running prior to the 10.6.8 or 10.7.4 update that was applied here, and then test your access.
A reasonable (and usually easier to conduct, particularly if you don't have backups) test: try the same operations from a different computer, though using the same network links.
If you're using Adobe Flash Player, also ensure that's up to date.  That update involves downloading the Flash Player update directly from Adobe web site.

  • Slow Movie Down Loads

Itunes Movie down loads appear to be getting slower and slower in my area mates are having the same problem with their apple tv s  we all use to be able to wath a rented movie straght away but now it take up to 6hrs to be able to watch a HD movie
    th

I'm in NZ and have a 100Mbps link, tested on Speedtest, and downloads from Apple - and ONLY Apple - take forever (like 2Hr or more before a movie will even play). I've tried setting the DNS to my ISP's DNS manually. There is no local interference, WiFi is working well otherwise.
It isn't local to my network, and seeing as access to the internet otherwise isn't demonstrating this sort of sluggish behaviour, I'd say it isn't the ISPs problem either. And what do you know, lots of other people are reporting problems with access to Apple's services being glacial and getting slower over time.
It is patently clear where the problem is, and it is at Apple's end of things. They clearly have insufficient infrastructure to support downloads at a reasonable speed.

  • Slow movie streaming

I am curious as to why my Apple TV cannot stream a purchased movie in a reasonable amount of time. When I try to stream something from the Apple Store, it tells me it will take over two hours! If I try to stream from my computer in the next room running iTunes, it still takes forever to load. You may say that my network is slow, but if I want to watch a Netflix movie, it is almost immediate.

Netflix adapts to the network. iTunes content is at a fixed rate and needs to load a portion before playback occurs.
Yes, that will be related to the network. The fact that it continues on the computer also confirms this.
If you want to verify your current connection go to speedtest.net (HD needs at least 6mbps)

  • Extremely slow movie downloads

bought pirates of the caribbean : curse of the black pearl but it is downloading very very slowly, about 10 kbps, eventually stopping completely after a while.
I know its not my connection or firewall because ive had this problem a few times before and the support people ive dealt with via email have not been able to help short of refunding my money. most movies will download fine its just certain titles that do this.
honestly im at my wits end here, this has to be the 9th time this has happened to me, so im posting this in hopes that somebody else has encountered this problem and can help
    thanks

  • Anyone else having slow movie downloads from Apple TV menu?

I have problems with slow downloading movies from Apple TV menu. I'm going on 2 hours for one movie.

I was having the same problem. Trailers took forever to play and movies took 7 hours. I unplugged my cable modem and WAP/router and plugged them back in. This reset solved the problem for me. Everything's back to fast downloads.

  • Slow Movie Playback

I have created a simulated quiz using Captivate 3 using SCORM
1.2 with percentage reporting. There are many text and click boxes
throughout the movie. All the slides (about 80) are set at
standard. Learners are having difficulty because entering text is
very slow - words appear after typing and pressing Enter does not
always register. At times even the click boxes are slow to react.
The slowness is inconsistent. My LMS provider is telling me
learners have too many applications open and that is causing the
problem and that this happens with flash.
Any suggestions on how to increase the playback of the
    movie?

Update for people who are looking for a real solution:
As stated before, HD playback is slow and choppy on a mac if the bitrate is too high. However, if you have a new enough mac (mine is from late 2008) this is not due to hardware problems such as a slow graphics card or slow CPU!
I restarted my Mac into Windows 7 using bootcamp and I installed the free HD player called Splash Lite http://mirillis.com/en/products/splash.html . Using this player I was able to play all HD videos at any bitrate without any playback problems; no dropped frames, no skipping. While watching a video using this program, my CPU was being used by the program at about 30% which is a lot lower than when playing the same video on a mac program (usually around 90%). The program also notifies me that the GPU is being used for video playback.
In conclusion, my mac's hardware is very capable of playing HD videos but only if the correct program/OS is used. I believe Apple has just recently released APIs to allow programs to use the full power of the graphics card for video playback. VLC has recently came out with a GPU supported version of its player as well as Adobe Flash. However, performance is still not as good as under windows.
For now, I have to unfortunately stick with Windows to play my HD movies.

  • HT1498 slow movie download?

The movies I purchase from the itunes store download very slow. (hours) How can I gix that?

I too am seeing unbelievable download times 6-8Hr's on my Apple TV the past week...
Speedtest.net reports my ISP is giving my plenty (15-20Mbps), but any Apple movies/TV shows are just horrible...
Is there something wrong with Apple's DC's/Servers/Networks?  Any ETA?

  • My Atv2 is  very slow movies and shows take forever to load it plays for a few minutes then pauses again. I thought if was a problem with my wireless router but I replaced it with a new airport extreme and the problem persists. Air play is just as slow.

My Atv2 is very slow with both AirPlay and rented and purchased content I spoke to apple rep and tried the things he suggested but the problem persists. Now it requires more lead time then the lenght of material being viewed. I haves broadband internet connection and airport extreme router so I don't think this should be a problem. Lately every time the unit goes to the screen saver an error message come up saying there was an error while loading content please try again later and you have to all over again. It is extremely frustrating. Any suggestions? What speed of transfer should I expect using AirPlay ?

I'm having the same issue.  Ay fixes?  Bought ATV today, music streams but videos don't and mirroring doesn't work either.  Start mirror and severe lag then just drops.  Been trying for couple hours. About ready to return it.
