SLOW Music Store loading times (Safari too)

For the past few weeks (unsure if directly tied to a security or version upgrade), the ITunes music store has become painfully slow to load. The load bar starts, gets about 90% there quickly, then appears to 'hang', like it is having trouble loading the last couple images. All store pages have the same problem, including searches. Similar thing happening in Safari, though is more manageable since, unlike ITunes music store, the screen appears before it is fully loaded.
Other computers on my same home network, including both a mac and a PC, do not have this problem with ITunes. It is definitely just this one computer.
Have tried resetting Safari, playing with the buffer setting on ITunes, no luck.
Thoughts? Thank you

Hi Jim,
The 'refresh to force the page to load' symptom is usually a sign that you either have the wrong DNS addresses specified in your Network preferences or your ISPs DNS server are very slow.
Have a search for DNS on the Safari forum - there's quite a few posts and sample addresses for you to try out.
Good luck.

Does Anyone have same issue ?         OS: XP pro

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Do you have the Desktop Manager set to load when the computer boots up? If so you can disable that by going into Add/Remove Programs, select the Desktop Manager and hit the Change/Remove button. Hit Modify, select the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and hit Next. You want to keep going through the wizard to pick the same options you did when installing it. When you're on the last screen before you hit 'Install' uncheck the box that says to start the Desktop Manager when the computer starts.

  • Slow Web Page Loading in Safari & Firefox

A few months ago, Safari began loading web pages extremely slowly, regardless of the Internet connection. I don’t recall doing anything special at the time; it just kind of started all of a sudden. I thought it might a problem with Safari, so I downloaded Firefox. Although Firefox was a bit faster at first, it quickly (over the course of about 1 week) slowed down as well. To reiterate, the browser application itself was loading quite rapidly, yet the web pages were taking a very long time. On average, it takes more than 90 seconds to load a web page as simple as Google.com. Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load. I am sure that it is NOT due to my Internet connection because the problem remains regardless of whether I am at home (where I have a cable connection) or at work (where I know the Internet connection is very reliable). To further support this, my roommate who has a 4 year old Dell PC loads web pages using Internet Explorer significantly faster than I do (with my 2.5 year old MacBook Pro). I have not noticed any kind of performance decrease with any of my other software or hardware; the computer still starts-up quickly, and all of my other software applications are very responsive. Any suggestions on how I might fix this issue?

Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load
I would call that slow! 1-5 seconds should be the maximum.
The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 / )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Slow web page loading in Safari with DSL

I've got an intermittent problem which may not be Safari-related, but I need to ask it anyway because Mac friends of mine have experienced similar problems.
I just changed my ISP from satellite interenet to mid-speed DSL. Ever since the changeover, I've found that more often than not, pages seem to load about 66%, then data reception seems to stop. When pages DO load, they load quickly, but most of the time, pages seem to stop loading at a certain point. If I hit refresh (often after several times), then the page loads as fast as lightning.
Could there be something with Safari that interacts with the DSL connection which causes the loading to stall? Many times, pages don't load at all, and I'm wasting time waiting for pages to "just pop up", Other times, I will get "Page Not Found" even though I KNOW there's a page existing at that particular location, yet Safari doesn't display it unless I first hit "Refresh". Still other times, The same pages load just fine, whether or not I empty the cache and close the downloads window.
    Any ideas, people?

  • Slow music download, then times out

I am now on my third Nano in 3 weeks, due to faults on the others, and I'm having similar problems with this one, when I connect the nano it starts to auto update the songs from my playlist, but after about 10-15 tracks, the ipod and pc just freeze for about 5 mins, then the nano disconnects from the pc. If I try an update it takes a further 5 mins, but then freezes again and disconnects. I am using a usb 2.0, so download speed should and used to be ok, since updating to 1.1.1 everything seems to have gone wrong. Can anybody offer any support and answers to this problem?

Have restored nano, still no difference, this has solved the first problem, but download still slow and times out before finishing playlist, have not tried another cable or pc, as I do not have another cable or pc, but have tried different usb ports, all the same outcome. This pc and cable worked fine prior to the 1.1.1 update, the day I updated eveything went wrong, so I believe it's more likely to be the update, rather than the hardware!

  • Music Store won't open after my newest upgrade

    Hi!
I downloaded the newest upgrade of iTunes and now my Music Store stuff won't work. I didn't change any login information, etc. What is going on????? Please email me at [email protected], if you'd like. Also, please feel free to answer this like I'm a total moron. I'm not good with technical terms, etc., so I won't be offended if you do. LOL.

'The network connection timed out' can have many causes.
iTunes can't connect to the Music Store after having tried for a number of times.
This document describes a number of possible causes and fixes:
iTunes Music Store: "Cannot connect to the Music Store" error
What happens if you try to connect to the Music Store from within Safari?
Go to this page http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and command-click on one of the songs in the 'Top 10 Songs' pane.
Safari will attempt to open the link in a new tab, but as it is a link to the Music Store, it will open iTunes and go to the Store.
If you use another browser, you can normaly control-click a link and choose to open it in a new tab or new window.

For 3 days now i've been unable to connect to iTunes music store, every time with the same error message (above). Yes I'm connected to the internet, no I do not have this problem with any other software/site.

Ok, this is an update and then I'm going off to bed, so if anyone has any bright ideas I will see them first thing.
I now wonder if limewire may be the problem, even though it is 'listening' currently on port 33782 which is nowhere near to iTunes or anything else for OS X. Why? Because up until today, I could only connect to limewire during the daytime - evenings and weekends it wouldn't connect and discussion forums suggest that tiscali (my ISP) is one of the worst offenders for blocking UDP traffic at peak times and may be specifically targeting limewire. Today, when I have had the problem with iTunes Music Store, I have been able to connect to limewire all day and all evening, no problems.
However the problem with this theory is that when I could connect previously to limewire only during the day, I could still connect to the Music Store as well at the same time. So it may be irrelevant.
I have checked everything else from the article - the discussion boards, keychain access, firewall, it all checks out. So if anyone has any ideas about this, I'd be very happy.

  • Stunnigly slow load time. It isn't my system, because both Chrome and Safari load in less han ten seconds. Firefox is too bloated.

Folks, I don't use Firefox much anymore. Why? Because the load time has become ridiculous. Chrome and Safari both load in less than ten seconds. Firefox can take up to a minute. And usually does. It has become bloated. It has lost the intent. You say the fox is the fastest? It isn't. Either in load time or search time. Chrome smashes the fox. Simpler, cleaner, faster. Isn't that what Firefox was all about in the beginning? You folks need to take a giant back step.

Agreed...I'm considering jumping ship. Too many crashes, hangs constantly, too many secure sites the server can longer find even though they've been bookmarked for ages, takes forever to load and plug-in issues galore. It's sad, the last 6 months have been horrendous and nothing is getting fixed with all the constant updates. No one should have to clear cookies and cache as much as is always suggested here just to get pages to load that load on other browsers with no problem.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Broadband + Slow Safari Load Time speed tweek

Give this a go to see if it improves your slow loading Safari.
    * QUIT Safari before typing these commands into terminal
    To add this speedup behaviour:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay 0.001
    To remove this speedup behaviour:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay 1.0
Launch Safari again and give it a go. If not helpful, quit and enter the last line given above to remove the behaviour.

If this is a wizard generated form, was there any modification made ?. The jbInit
code by default sets up the InfoProducer objects. The ApplicationModule is then
created and queries executed when the publisSession method is called on the SessionInfo
object. This publishSession by default happens after the jbInit code. I would imagine
the publishSession method to take more time in comparision to jbInit code which
typically instantiates the UI elements and creates your form. Is there any other
setup that happens in jbinit ?.
If I remove the jbInit call from the program, the load time goes down to 5 secs
(which would probably be acceptable), but then I lose the navigation. Could you provide more info., on what you mean by navigation ?. Is is the setup of
the navigation bar and menu you are referring to ?.

  • Movie Load Time Too Slow

    Hello!
I've created three movies for a new website; all photo slide shows with 10-14 photos and some text.  The photos have all been optimized in Photoshop and saved for web...most are under 100kb, however the movies are taking a long time to load on the webpages.  Is there anything I can do through Edge Animate to reduce the load time?  Even with the preloader, the load time is way too long.  I've inserted the movies into the html pages using iframe.  Any suggestions are much appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi Simon,
I want to reduce Power View blank canvas / PowerView report load time from SSAS Tabular source in the SharePoint 2013 Portal.
I have observed that a PowerView report with 1 View, loads faster than a PowerView report with multiple (4) Views, so I think that your statement "Power View only retrieves the data it needs at any given time for a data visualization" might
    be incorrect.
I have read the link you have provided and have all the patches applied, besides I am not using a Power Pivot source.
My tabular cube is complex and has about 200 measures, and the blank Power View canvas takes about 13 seconds to load in SharePoint 2013 URL from web browser. Appreciate if you can provide any insights here please.
    Thanks, Ashish Singh

  • PowerView (SharePoint 2013) Load time too slow

I am using PowerView in SharePoint 2013 and when I access the SSAS 2012 Tabular Data Source through a "Report Data Source", the PowerView Canvas with the Field List takes a long while to load and the users get restless seeing the Blue spinning
wheel. I tested this on different tabular models and am seeing different results based on the complexity of the model.
    Complex Model - 13 secs.
Adventure Works Model - 9 secs.
Very Simple Model (1 fact, 1 dim) - 8 secs.
I think if the model is complex then the engine takes a longer time to render the field list. How to get around this limitation and bring the blank canvas load time to under 5 secs.? I am curious to know if anyone has ever seen lesser load times in their
environment for the blank PowerView canvas and field lists.
Alternatively, If the field list loading takes time, is it possible to disable it? Because, I have already created dashboards for the end users in PowerView and do not want to load the field list if it is slowing down the entire experience.
    Appreciate any guidance.
    Thanks, Ashish Singh
