Slow n73!!

i've had an n73 for 4months now and the phone seems to be getting painfully slower. not that it can be much slower from when i originally bought it...
does anyone have any suggestions as to why it is so slow or how to improve it?
i've looked into updating software however, i have a Mac and the software update is not compatible with macs..
any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

hey bas_uk
Try updating your N73 with the SMS accelerator software available online http://europe.nokia.com/A4162158
I was getting really annoyed with my N73 taking up to 5 mins to send SMS messages, and being generally really slow, crashing when trying to open applications; even to the extend of getting O2 to replace the handset (the 2nd N73 has developed the same fault).
I have just downloaded this firmware (BACKUP YOUR PHONE MEMORY! you could lose your contacts, although my contacts are still there :-) ) and my N73 is now much quicker when i go into programmes and SMS texts are sending in seconds!
Not sure what you should do about using a Mac, although i was online and downloaded straight to my phone through my laptop, firmware is not saved to my laptop.
Hope this helps

  • E75 qwerty-keyboard problems in new fw 202

    Hi
I've updated to new 201/202 firmware.
In addition to all the software problems, mentioned in this forum, now I got very annoying qwerty-keyboard
When I type fast, it misses some characters. In release notes to the fw, it called "improved accuracy".
I understand, that Nokia really tried to improve something, but it went completely wrong.
Maybe it works good in English keyboard layout, but I use Russian, and that new feature is real hell.
In Russian there're many words with 3-4 nearest charachters (example: "п", "р", "о", etc - it is "g", "h", "j" in English). So when i type a word, I get only 50% of letters! So I have to backspace and retype slowly.. That's really sucks
In old 110 fw my typing speed was much better, than now.
Is there any chance to switch off that "accuracy improvement"?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Same problem for me!
    Previous firmware problem:
    - "System error" displayed when exiting from browser (need manual battery remotion!)
    - Impossible to associate the BT accessories if there are more than 200 messages in memory (crazy!!!)
    Current (202):
    - Very bad qwerty keyboard typing! (almost unusable!)
Are this firmwares tested by you or are all tested by the users?
I hope this problem will be fixed shortly: after the (slow) N73, this E75 isn't better so much: too many software problems! I'm thinking to sell it...

  • My n73 is very slow

    hi friends
after updating the n73 music edition my mobile is very slow now.
especially when receiving calls ,i have given the option for saying callers name, it vl be more slow and even cant say the names properly.before it was very smooth.i thouught it because of memory full and i deleted some data and there is 800 mb free memory now.
    please help me
    sumesh

    - how much ram do you have left?
    - is there any difference in speed, especially after you turn off and on again and run it?
    - Running:
    1) message: it's slow than S40. But because it needs a second or two as the lock key sequence is using the same key. So after a second, no 2nd key (*) is depressed, it starts "message"
    2) Camera is slow because it needs to initialize the hardware. You may find it slower than other phone since the CPU is lower clock. If you have less RAM, it may not start or start very slow.
Hope this would answer some of your questions
    Cheers

  • N73 very slow, is this right?

Had my N73 about a week now, when i hot the menu button theres a delayed reaction ans also, when opening applications and especially messages it takes a while to do it. And when i recieve a message when i hit read it sort of laggs a bit then shows the message, i dont really like the laggyness of naviagtion on it, quite dissapointed with this aspect. My version is: V3.0638.0.0.1 i believe this to be the latest version.
Does anyone else experience the same thing. Comapred to my old samsung where everything happends as soon as you click the buttons, its not half as good.
    any other opinions?

2GB is way too big for me.i'm using 512MB and my nokia is very slow.I think no phone needs 2GB.Well exept phones with 4-5GB or more can handle bigger MMC-s because their processor is faster(i think so).Mine is with 220 MHz procesor and believe me it's VERY slow.Let's just say that the Images opening time is more than 25 seconds.
And about the firmware updates.I don't think there will be any difference even if you have updated the latest because just the processor is slow.
Bigger phone memory - faster processor for good performance

  • N73 frustratingly slow!

    Hi
My N73 has been slow for some time, so I've been browsing these pages for a solution. This is what I've done so far: -
I changed my log history to one day
I moved all contacts and messages to my memory card
I reset the phone to factory defaults (my code was 11111 as default btw, not 12345 as suggested).
After powering up my newly restored handset I'm saddened to say that it's just as slow as before and is driving me nuts! Does anybody have any other ideas I could try?
    Thanking you all in advance.

You could try a soft reset.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's lock code (the Nokia's default lock code is 12345). Warning!Soft reset deletes all your phone's data, so backup your stuff before you do a soft reset!

  • N73 + MEMORY CARD + SLOW APPS

    Hello,
i've been reading a lot of the previous posts, but still have some questions.
    1. i'm going to get a 2GB ScanDisk II miniSD for my N73, is this one of the better options?
    2. Will this make my phone run any faster? It generally lags a little between opening apps and moving through the different menus.
    3. When i get the card should i put all of my media files on the card? Again, will this make things runs faster?
    4. [not listed in the subject] i live in the US and wanted to find out my Firmware version for possible updates, but i can't use the standard function, *#000# i think. is it listed in the phone somewhere? or can i find it some other way?
    thanks for the help!

Factory reset is in the security settings with the default code being 12345 , although this should be the last resort as you will lost all downloaded data in the handset.
If you have checked out the internal memory and it has little used then maybe its developed a bug.
If all else fails back up your data and perform a reset.
If this fails maybe a firmware update will cure your issues but the same applies. Back up your data
I checked the internal memory was used a bit in NOKIA N73,
    Is it a bug?
Oh No... I formatted the phone memory and the memory card too, even then the cell is too slow.
    Please assist me?

  • N73 ME slow / lag when pressing buttons & keys

My N73 is just 3 days old but whenever I try to start composing messages, the keys lag for the first 5 or so characters, I have to wait for X seconds just to type in another character. It also happens when I edit contacts names or just about every time I try to do something that involves keying/pressing the buttons.
It also happens when my phone is in stand by for a couple of minutes, then when I try to unlock the keys, I would have to try it 4 x until it gets unlocked successfully... It also happens when I access the menu. Sometimes I have to press the menu key 3-4 x just to get to the actual menu page.
I did install the sms accelerator, although I didn't have problems sending SMS.
But now what? How to get rid of the key lag?
    Anyone?
FYI: I have the latest firmware.Message Edited by mymaria on 12-Mar-2007

actually, i have my messages on the phone... i think the problem lies on the key response time because it can't cope up with fast keying, i think.
yeah there is an sms accelerator for n73, i got it at the n73 support page.. although i don't know what it's really for anyway as I don't see any changes on the phone's performance.

  • N73 very slow response after minute of idle

After updating the firmware it take too long to open the phone from standby mode.
Why Nokia had limit the MMS to 300KB only.
Will Nokia manufacturer this a serious note for them to upgrade the firmware to more stable and reliable to use this kind of cell phone?

There are numerous software versions for different regions, network operators etc., so it is difficult to comment on your speed issue without knowing what is the version that you have updated to.
300Kb is a typical limit for MMS, even at network level. Some more recent phones like the N82 could theoretically handle larger MMS messages, but in practice most networks still place a 300Kb limit so what the phone is capable of is irrelevant. You should note that the limit of the receiving phone will also affect this, for example if you sent a 300Kb MMS from your N73 to a friend who owned a 6020, they would not receive it because their phone accepts 100Kb maximum. MMS is a system created only for small messages, and will eventually be completely redundant now that most phones have GPRS/3G/WLAN and e-mail capability.

  • N73 interminably slow and crashnig - what a dreadf...

Loved my N73 when I got it last October.
Eight months on I detest it. It's wrecking my life. And I talk as a committed Nokia user with drawers of older models - never had anything but.
My N73 takes over 3 minutes to send a text. And then often crashes or freezes, so I'm repeatedly having to pull the battery out to turn it off - then start again.
If the phone's not being used it takes MINUTES sometimes for the screen to light up again, during which times it's possible to accidentally initiate calls etc.
Worse than useless: this phone is actually making my life hell.
I've got a big memory card in there - but I've deleted everything - pics and songs - in any case. To no avail.
Hate the thing for the piece of useless techno-trash it plainly is.
It's insured, so I guess I could get another - but it's got over 600 contacts in it and changing is such a fag.
I haven't tried downloads - a bit nervous in case contacts are wiped.
    Any thoughts?
And to anyone else ever thinking of getting this phone (now free with most network) think again.

    Hi - thanks Steve.
I did as instructed [including downloading the updater, I'd say the process took an hour, so it wasn't that quick and convenient] but the phone seems to be working and the contacts seem intact. I've sent one text and it did go quickly [ie it went just as quickly as any ordinarily functioning phone would send one].... So here's hoping. But I'm still appalled that Nokia let a model like this out of the shops if it wasn't up to being used to do basic things like send texts.
I hope I don't have to update it again. No more Nokia smart phones for me, and I'd still urge all not to touch N73s.
    Thanks again for help!

  • Loads of trouble with n73, please help me.

Ok, I bought the n73 about a month ago, and I've been happy with it. A bit on the slow side, but acceptable.
Now since about a week, the damn thing has been driving me crazy. First, it started losing network connection, no calls in or out. So I went through the menu, thinking I can find the problem. Then the phone starts crashing. First only once or twice, no nearly 70% of the time I cannot do ANYTHING with it. The nokia screen shows up and no buttons, not even the on/off button, work. Sometimes it starts working by itself in a few minutes, but usually it just stays that way. I have tried to update the software, but everytime I try to connect, either the connection breaks off or it crashes. I downloaded the pc software, but it wont connect that way either.
I'm really starting to think it hardware based, since I never dropped it or gotten it wet or anything. But I'm still hoping someone here knows how to deal with this. Please help me!

Have you used it before?  It sounds like it's open a default - and corrupt - catalog.
You can create a new one and start from scratch by holding down control as you start it.

  • N73 - Restore from Memory card option missing afte...

    Hello,
I re-installed the software on my N73 today morning as it had become slow. Before doing this, I backed up all my important data into the memory card.
After installation, when I tried to restore the data, I found that the "Restore from Memory Card" option is no longer available on the menu list!!! The only options currently available are
    Remove mem card
    Backup phone mem
    Format mem card
    Set Password
    Memory details
    Help and
    Exit.
I removed the battery, removed the memory card, restarted the phone, but nothing works!!!
Someone  help me in resolving this problem pls. All my valuable data is in the memory card.

Still no clue what happened.. But could not wait for miracles to happen anymore.. Rebuit the phone. Fortunately 99% of data / apps I need could be resynched from Outlook..
