Slow Narration in Flash

I’m a programming novice.  I’m trying to play narration in Flash, but the playback is slow.  I tested one of the narrations and it played 8.6% slower in Flash than the original file.  This makes my narrator’s voice sound plodding, like Lurch.  Is this to be expected or is there something I can do to prevent it.
I’m using Flash C4.  I’ve imported the audio files into the library and I’m using action script to program buttons to play the sounds.  I’ve actually programmed two types of button.  One plays a narration once.  The other causes narration to play every time a frame is reached.  This can be toggled on and off.
I’ve tried importing the files as wav and mp3.  I’ve tried different settings of the Sound Properties dialog box including different compressions (MP3, Speech, etc.), and different bit rates and qualities.  I also experimented with the publish settings.  Nothing has made any difference.  Any suggestions?

Good suggestion but no luck.  I just created a new fla with nothing in it but one of the narrations added to one frame with a stop(); command.  It still dragged.
While I'm thinking of it there's one other thing we tried that didn't help.  We tried playing the animations on another computer, but it still dragged.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I do appreciate it.

We apologize for the inconvenience.  We're aware of the issue, and working diligently to get it resolved.
The issue appears to be limited to older Flash 8/ActionScript 2 content.  If you have access to the ActionScript source, there are a couple workarounds here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4841531#4841531#4841531.

  • The video downloading is extremely slow after downloading Flash Player Active X (IE) and FP Plug-in

I have Windows 7 on a 64-bit operating system, and have Firefox 19 and Internet Explorer 8. I tried installing Flash Player 11.6.602.171 from the Adobe Website and got an error message right at 47% download "can not contact reliable source." I also tried uninstalling whatever Flash Player I had, but I continued to get the same error message at 47% "can not contact reliable source." Finally, following the advice found in the link below under "Program Bar Hangs During Download," I downloaded Flash Player ActiveX (internet explorer) and Flash Player Plug-In (all other browsers). It appeared that both downloads were successful and I verified that the installation was complete in the link below under "Verify that installation is complete." It says I have Flash Player 11.6.602.171. My issue now is that whenever I watch videos that use Flash Player, the downloading of videos is extremely slow.  For example, a 45 second youtube video might take 30 minutes to watch. I have tried everything (from General Info, Download Issues, Installation Issues, Post-Installation Issues) in this Adobe installation problem page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html but the problem has not improved. Can someone please help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First, I went on this link under Progress Bar Hangs During Download
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header
and then I downloaded Flash Player directly by clicking the links provided Flash Player for ActiveX (IE) and then Flash Player Plug-In (All browsers).  After my installations were complete, I tried watching any youtube videos or videos on www.ABC.com and the loading of videos was extremely slow.

  • Editing tips for slowing down HD (flash) clips?  Trimming HD clips?

Hello all... I'm new to HD flash content and have a couple of questions about some techniques that could speed up my workflow. I'm used to 'log and capture', but just now beginning my first projects ever using 'log and transfer' of HD content from flash cards. Anyway, here's what I'm hoping I could do:
    1. In the past with DV tape, I would drop an entire captured clip (usually and entire tape worth of video) into my Sequence then change the speed of that entire clip from 100% to 80% for my editing needs before cutting it up for editing. With this new log and transfer, it takes every clip between takes and makes them their own independent clip (IE- each time you stop recording on the shoot it makes what you just recorded a clip, whether it's 10 seconds or one hour long). So instead of having a hour's worth of footage with pink break point markers after doing a 'DV Start/Stop Detect' function, you get a boat load of 10 to 15 second individual clips.
Question: Is it possible to select all the clips or set something in the sequence settings to change all of the clips speed from 100% (real time) to say 80% (bit of slow motion) without having adjust each individual clip one-by-one?
    2. In the past with DV tape, after slowing down my entire clip I would then go through and make cuts a second before and a second after each and every break point (or pink break point marker after doing a DV Start/Stop Detect). Maybe I've always done this the hard way, who know, so I was wondering if there's a way to select all of this HD content in my Sequence (the individual clips as described in my first question) and automatically have FCP trim a second off the start and finish of each clip (whether it's been slowed down or not)? This obviously would accomplish being able to add transitions between clips (unless there's another way to accomplish adding transitions between clips without trimming them?).
Anyway pointers would be great! I love the HD flash content, but now I'm just realizing my old techniques with DV when it comes to the basic editing isn't going to work with this HD content from flash cards, making my job take 2-3 times as long as it would in the past. So I'm hoping FCP has added these kind of 'shortcuts' much like they did with being able to apply a single transition to a selected batch of clips.
I'm up to date on all software and what not... running FCP 7.0.1.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response, but I have access to the FCP user manual and have already read that. I usually only come here as a last resort. I'm hoping somebody can actually answer my two specific questions vs. directing me to a user manual that I already have. Specifically the two questions I asked above with a simple set of instructions on how to accomplish both, it either is at all possible. The user manual did not provide those answers for me and if it did, I'm not understanding it.
And if what you are saying is I can import, or 'log and transfer', all of the footage from one card as one long clip then treating it like it's DV 'log and capture' footage I'd love to know the settings on how to accomplish that as well. I tried that and looked for settings and read the manual and I'm not seeing where that is possible.
I'm not a Hollywood film producer, so spoon feeding might be necessary! I'm hoping to get 'on the fly' help and advice from others that might know what I'm trying to accomplish and do it themselves all the time vs. sitting in front of my editing stations for a week trying to figure it out on my own after reading a vague user manual.

  • Verrrrrrry slow encode to flash, is this normal??

I just tried exporting one of my previous projects from 2.0 to Flash. I have a core 2 duo 6300 processor and the video is 2 hours. Several hours went by and it wasn't even 1/5th complete. Is something wrong or is it just really really slow? Has anyone here exported a 2 hour DVD to flash? How long did it take?

I've heard previous accounts that Encore CS3 projects that are working with pre-transcoded files (files that were encoded to MPEG-2 DVD prior to importing into Encore) take MUCH longer to encode to Flash and yield less desirable results than the same project with assets imported as DV AVI files.
Seems that if you know in advance that Flash will be your sole output in Encore CS3, then using DV AVI files is quicker and cleaner.
I have not tested this theory personally because most of my projects are focused on the DVD output first and Flash output second. And yes...it takes a loooong time.

  • Is 120fps movie going to be twice as slow away from Flash ?

    Flash CS5,
    Powerpoint 2007
Why would 120fps swf be running twice as slow as its design speed in conversion to wmv, as well as when run in powerpoint ?
This seems like a fundamental issue now and not just Msoft software issues, though WindowsMovieFile is Msoft, having said that !
Perhaps it is Msoft at fault ?
I could try converting to avi.
Any suggestions what video format to initially convert to to retain 5 sec play time ?
I have trialled an swf to wmv converter, the swf also runs twice as slow in that prog, as well as when run in powerpoint. Is 120fps unable to be used in the world of PC’s ?
Real movies use 25fps, the human eye cant see 1/25 second changes in frames, I have a 767px tall stage and cars on it travelling at 12 mph, I cannot use less than 120fps as the pngs are jerky, I would have to lessen the frame length of the movie to retain the travel speed, and the pngs would have greater distance to travel per  ‘tick of the clock’, which gives jerkiness, as it would appear that flash as it progresses artwork to each frame moves fwd then pauses then moves then pauses. One could have fluid motion across frames, it would still be eating up so many frames per second, one could have 12fps and 12 frames and a smooth 1 second travel, if motion was uniform, it’s the way flash handles the progression it seems.
I was hoping that this progression would be smoothed out when made into a movie, but its running twice as slow so no advantage there.
    Envirographics

When you export a flash movie to a video format, that video will be set to the defaults for frame rate, size, compressor, etc. You can change these settings in the options window after you select the output file type. Have a look in those settings and see if you can get the output that you need.

  • Very slow when loading Flash

    Hi
I'm using FF 3.6.21 on a PPC Mac. I've updated the Flash Player plug-in to 10.1 r102 When I open certain sites I'm waiting 30- 60 seconds looking at the 'beach ball of death' they all seem to stall on the Flash

when I open a web with flash, loading is very slow
Not uncommon. Adobe's Flash Player is often a troublemaker. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it. Also, try resetting the browser.

  • Computer is slow after running flash

I'm running Flash player 11,8,800,94 with Firefox 23.0.1 under Window 7 Pro 64-bit (with all the latest bug fixes) on a Dell Studio 1558 (core 4 CPU)  and have this problem: After viewing a Flash movie under Firefox, my system slows to a crawl, while CPU usage (per Task Manager) shows nearly 100% -- even after I quit Firefox -- and even when I am doing only mundane things like opening a text file in Notepad.  Only re-booting helps then.
I followed these instructions [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071] to disable Flash protected mode. Not only did this not fix my problem, it induced a new one: After viewing 5 to 10 minutes of flash movies, my system would suddenly power off with no warning I removed the line "ProtectedMode=0" which I had added to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg and the sudden power-off problem no longer recurred.
So I completely uninstalled Flash Player and the problem did not recur--of course, since it only happens after playing a Flash movie. But then again I couldn't play Flash movies. So I reinstalled Flash player--the latest version, straight from Adobe--and as soon as I played my first movie, the CPU usage shot up and stayed up around 80% even though I was doing nothing! I killed the Flash Player Plugin from Task Manager and the CPU usage did not drop. Task Manager says that it's all going to ordinary things that shouldn't take any time, like an idle Firefox session and even 14% to Task Manager itself. Something lurking in my computer is making everything inefficient. It will be OK after I reboot, until I play my next Flash video.
By the way, this problem only happens after playing Flash videos through the Adobe Flash player plugin to Firefox. I played some FLV files using the stand-alone FLV Player from Applian (based on the VLC player), and had no troubles at all.
So, the obvious questions are, why is this happening and how can I prevent it?  I'm getting tired of re-booting just to get my computer back after each web site which pops up a movie.

My daughter had an ASUS netbook with Win 7 and it did this with FF and "The Sims 3". As soon as she opened the game or played a YouTube video, the fan would "kick up" so high that it sounded like someone was vacuuming the carpets. I updated the video drivers and that solved the game problem, but I had to "bite the bullet" and reinstall Firefox COMPLETELY (as in: I dumped her Firefox profile and mine from the HD). Reinstalled Firefox and suddenly we had a quiet netbook.
I use a lot of plugins in FF, and FlashBlock used to be one of them. I didn't reinstall it on the reload and it seemed THAT was what kept the fan from revving up so high with Flash videos. It was sending the Flash Container plugin to 100% when it tried to block Flash ads. I had tried disabling it before uninstalling FF, but it still pushed the CPU to the max, so a complete reinstall was all I could do.

  • The Ubearable Slowness of the Flash IDE (mac)

I had really hoped that CS3 would address the slowness with
type issue but after a few months of using it I see that there has
    been little improvement.
If you are a professional like me you have many hundreds of
fonts and typically have lots of them loaded at a given moment (I
currently use Linotype FontExplorerX to manage them). When
selecting a text field on the stage there is a lag of many seconds
(sometimes 20 or more) --- the rainbow beachball appears and Flash
hangs while the fonts load. Why is it that all the other Adobe apps
can handle massive numbers of fonts?
Both my macs exhibit the problem, intel and not:
    g5 dual 2.0, 4G RAM, OSX.4.9
    macbookpro core2Duo 2.4, 4G RAM, OSX.4.10

Download and install a version compatible to whatever cat flavor you have on the computer.

Maybe Flash 11 is too big and you need to stay on Flash 10.3
