Slow network while running Archlinux
Hi there,
Recently (and, that's the weirdest part, recently only) the network have been really slow. From what I see when I'm running Windows, I assume I actually only get a fraction of the speed I should get when I'm running ArchLinux.
For instance, when I'm alone at home, I have an acceptable connection with ArchLinux (though I still can't play online games : too much lag. I have to boot on Windows for that).
And when some roommates are here, I have an utterly slow connection which makes it barely possible to load a page from ArchLinux's wiki (though I can do it with Windows with no problem, and can still play online games with a bit of lag).
It's been lasting for the past three months, so I'm pretty sure it's no coincidence : there's something wrong.
I've been reading some pieces of the wiki and tried to find what's wrong with my configuration. I did find that the hostname from the rc.conf and hosts files were different, but changing that didn't solve the network problem.
Here is my configuration :
/etc/rc.conf
# /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
# LOCALIZATION
# LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
# DAEMON_LOCALE: If set to 'yes', use $LOCALE as the locale during daemon
# startup and during the boot process. If set to 'no', the C locale is used.
# HARDWARECLOCK: set to "", "UTC" or "localtime", any other value will result
# in the hardware clock being left untouched (useful for virtualization)
# Note: Using "localtime" is discouraged, using "" makes hwclock fall back
# to the value in /var/lib/hwclock/adjfile
# TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
# Note: if unset, the value in /etc/localtime is used unchanged
# KEYMAP: keymaps are found in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps

I tried commenting either of the DNS servers, without any changes.
I also tried with two different network daemons, NetworkManager and Wicd.
Is there something wrong with my configuration ? Is there something I can do to find out where does this problem may come from ?
Re-read this section on rc.conf and also cross-refer with the various items such as netcfg, as well as taking note of the single network approach and what you should do in #2 re: network daemon vs. your config with networkmanager:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rc.conf#Networking
Take a look at pdnsd as an alternative way to configure DNS lookups, also check out OpenDNS and Google's DNS as potential alternative nameservers so that you don't rely on your ISP's services.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pdnsd
http://www.opendns.com/
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
Let us know if that makes it better.
NB: The DNS bit is an alternative approach that does not necessarily solve your issues though might be a desirable configuration.

IOS 8.0.2: My iPhone 5 became very slow/freezes while running apps
When I open any app, it takes ~1 min to open and apps are running extremely slow. Basically, the phone bacame unusable after I updated to iOS 8.0.2. After iOS 8 update, battery drains faster and shuts down the phone if battery below 20% mark. Lots of bugs in iOS 8. When will it be fixed?
So yesterday vibration suddenly started working again, after nearly two weeks with the problem above. I have no idea why, I didn't change any settings and the only app that was updated yesterday was Facebook messenger...

I am doing an an aquisition and displaying the data on graphs. When I run the program it is slow. I think because I have the number of scans to read associated with my scan rate. It takes the number of seconds I want to display on the chart times the scan rate and feeds that into the number of samples to read at a time from the AI read. The problem is that it stalls until the data points are aquired and displayed so I cannot click or change values on the front panel until the updates occur on the graph. What can I do to be able to help this?

It may also be your graphics card. LabVIEW can max the CPU and you

I am getting very slow speeds while transferring from my computer to a server. I only have two accounts on this computer - my account and then an administrator account I use as a backup and clean user. With the admin account I am getting 25 MB/sec (limit of the firewire drive I tested with), but only ~10 MB/sec while logged in to my account. Would seem very odd but is there a preference somewhere that would effect the speed of only sending data? Pulling from the server I get ~65 MB/sec. Output of ifconfig shows that I am connected in 1000baseT full-duplex. I have tried both ethernet ports on the Mac, two ports on the switch, and two cables from the etherent port on the Mac to the switch, so the problem doesn't seems to be on the physical layer, but rather only when logged in to my account. Any ideas are appreciated as this is killing my performance during large file saves. Thanks!
Tried again on the admin side. Seems that has slowed down now too. Getting about the same speeds on that account. Is it possible Vmware Fusion is causing any problems? Looks like it created a couple interfaces for network bridging to function, but I can't see how this would effect my network speeds on the host OS. Here is an output of ifconfig just in case it helps

Very slow network throughput since 2-3 days ago
I've been having very slow network throughput since 2-3 days ago, with no apparent reason.
I see (from what I can tell) no relevant package updates during that period.
Connections are nfs v3 shares, over UTP cat5e gigabit ethernet.
I've been running this setup for many years now, without such issues.
But now, it's as if throughput is capped around 100Mbps.
Is there a way to see - if for some reason - a network adapter has locked to 100Mbps, instead of 1Gbps?
ifconfig does not say anything.
PS: netstat -i does not report any errors over the connection.
Last edited by wantilles (2011-04-12 15:25:52)experiencing the same issue with my wlan0 since update to kernel2.6.38 yesterday night.
Speed tests grant me a download speed of around 50kbps. Should be around some mbit though! How do I find out, why it's acting so slow?
edit: switched to win7 for the moment. Everything is speedy and normal around here. Something is seriously broken in my arch box!
Can this be related to xorg-server1.10.902 or kernel2.6.38? It would also explain the strange issues with pacman lately (like this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116429 or this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116696).
More people seem to experience the network issue: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116738
Any insights?
edit#2: Just got back from win7. Upload speed in Arch is quite okay. Download speed is extremely fucked though. I wonder why? At least now I know why pacman has problems getting package upgrades, etc.
How do I fix a problem with the wlan0 connection? Haven't had any of those before with gnome and Networkmanager. I'm using the ath9k module.

Slow network after Lion upgrade
Since I upgraded all my Macs to Lion, my network transfers are terribly slow over gigabit ethernet. My network info is:
I have a Time Capsule
Acting as my home router
I connect to the internet through it
I have a DroboFS connected to the Time Capsule via cat 6 ethernet (it is running the most current firmware)
I connect to the Time Capsule via Wifi and gigbit ethernet (all cabling is cat6 ot cat5e and all links report as gigabit)
I have a netgear switch (gigabit) connected to the Time Capsule (via cat 6 cable) and have one Mac connected to the switch via cat 6 ethernet
I have an Aiport Express conected to the switch for a separate wireles network for non-N connections (802.11 g/b/a)
File transfers over wifi do not seem any slower, but doing file transfers over the gigabit ethernet is terribly slow - in the under 100 kilobyte per second range. This is especially true if I try to move multigigabyte folders between the Time Capsule and the DroboFS, using the Mac connected to the netgear switch. This is also true moving files from the Mac to either the Time Capsule or the Drobo. Time Machine backups are also painfully slow.
I have changed out the switch and it has not made any difference. I have connected the Mac to the Time Capsule directly - bypassing the switch (i.e. nothing is plugged into the switch) to make sure the switch is not the problem - and it isn't. The slow transfers happen with or without the switch. In addition, the computer will often freeze while transferring files.
I have change the DNS to OpenDNS. This made no differnce. I deleted the ethernet service in the networking preference pane and re-added it. This also made no difference. I power cycled all the devices - Mac, Time Capsule, Drobo, switch. Again, no difference.
I had none of these issues with Snow Leopard. If anyone has any suggestions on resolving my slow network issue, please let me know. Thanks!Am having the same issues. Taking painfully long time to even copy 20Mb file across our network. We have 3 Lion clients 1 Leopard connected to Tiger Server all up to date with their versions. The network was fine until loading clients with Lion, although it seems to have deteriorated a little.

Slow network browsing (at times)
Hi all: Ever since we installed our new servers (January-February) we have been experiencing slow network performance. We currently run OES11 SP2 servers and use Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows 7 (IR9 and 10) on Windows 7 64-bit workstations. We also use ZCM 11 SP3 clients. All our workstations are members of the same domain (functional level 2008 R2).
Here is what I observe. Right after completing a successful login access to any OES server takes 2-3 seconds for the directory list to display. Once one server has been accessed we do not see the delay to other OES server. Browsing and access to the domain servers seems unaffected. But after a few minutes and symptoms return. I have tried various remedies detailed in a few TIDS and Cool solutions but none seem to help. I have elevated the Novell network providers to the top of the provider list. Wireshark captures don't show any smoking guns.
Suggestions? Thanks, Chris.Originally Posted by laurabuckley
Hi Chris,
A while ago I had similar issues. I made a few changes to the Windows 7 workstations and the situation greatly improved.
The first thing that I recommend you do is turn off Autotuning.
From an elevated command prompt on the workstation: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
The second thing that I recommend you do is turn off Remote Differential Compression.
From an elevated command prompt on the workstation: Netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
I would suggest that you try this just on one or two workstations first and see if the situation improves.
Please do let us know how it goes.
Cheers,
I may be wrong here but I just want to clarify:
From an elevated command prompt on the workstation: Netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
I believe this Disables Receive side scaling, not Remote Differential Compression.
To disable Remote Differential Compression you can either remove it through the "Windows Components" in Add/Remove or Run:
ocsetup MSRDC-Infrastructure /uninstall
Along with the above I run the following in a Run Once Bundle on all machines:
netsh.exe int ip set global taskoffload=disabled
netsh.exe interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
netsh.exe interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh.exe int tcp set heuristics disabled -

The error indicates a validation failure. You should not see this when the profiles below are set to "NONE". It must be "ERROR" in your instance.
"FND_VALIDATION_LEVEL" = "NONE"
"FRAMEWORK_VALIDATION_LEVEL" = "NONE"
"FND_FUNCTION_VALIDATION_LEVEL" = "NONE"
The recommendation is to have the value set to "ERROR". So in you case you will have to set the profile values to "LOG" and get details of the error to fix. -
Database Error while running the query.
Hi,
While running the query in webi rich client i am having a "database error IES 10901 and WIS 10901" , it is showing that the data source name not found and default driver is not specified.
I am trying to generate report from efashion universe which is in .unx format, same client version and universe is running fine on another machine (webi rich client).
PS: The above mentioned universe is running fine on my BI launch pad, the problem is with webi rich client only.
Please help!!Hi,
Which Database your are using .
As explained by Yuvraj You need to install driver for specific database .
Ask for client or (your Database ) driver from administrator .
After installation you can see your database Driver in following path
Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools\Data Sources (ODBC)
See in Drivers Tab .
If you are using oracle & client is install on your system then Check TNS Names File in NETWORK folder . -

Hi All,
Am learning OAF on myself while running oaf page with version 9.0.3 the page is resulting error.
Message is : The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."
Other options to try:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Could any one plz help me on this.
Thnaks,
Ayrus1. Have you set runtime connection properties (under Project Properties) with DBC file name, user credentials etc?
2. Have to chosen Default Local IP address option under Embedded OC4J > Startup properties?
Please make sure that initial pre-reqs are completed before running the page.
Thanks
