Slow opening archived citadel database on first read

I have archived a citadel database using the archive vi. I then copied this database to another computer. when I try to read data from this archived database, it is taking a long time to return the first set of data (5-10 minutes). New attempts to read data execute much quicker than the first read. Is there a way to improve this opening of the citadel database?? Right now I am using the OPEN DB sub vi that was sent to me to resolve an error accessing citadel problem. The database is not setup as the logging location in the tag engine. This OPEN DB vi is locked so I can't do any kind of probing to see what it is happening. Are you not supposed to work with an archived database??

Bump,
I was unable to reproduce your problem. I archived a DB on my machine and moved it to another Win2k machine. The program works fine, whether or not I use the open and close DB VIs. How much data are you trying to retrieve? You also may have a corrupted database, and Citadel is trying to fix its corruptions when you first access the data. Have you tried to access the original (pre-archive) database with the VI? What is the result?

  • How to archive citadel database. we have DSC 6.0.2

we have LabView 6i & DSC 6.0.2 . we develop a application using tags. we want to log our data to citadel database but some time the data is lost for some reason (like system hank or restart).so we want to take a backup of our citadel database.how it will possible.

    Pilla,
Unfortunately, 6.0.2 does not have the capability. This was one of the new 6.1 features. Check Table 3 on page 7 in this manual. The Archive Database is what you need for programmatic archive. In 6.1 there is also a new utility called Historical Data Viewer, that allows you to do it manually.

  • I can not open an citadel database whit diadem

i can not open an citadel database whit diadem, the diadem shown error number 104 , "unable to connect to specified server . what have i to do ?

    Hi Ramatajama,
Most likely you are just missing one simple step, which is to turn on the Citadel service that allows any client, such as DIAdem, to get to the data in the Citadel database.
You do not have to have the Citadel database on the same computer that DIAdem resides on, but you DO have to go to "NI Service Manager" on the DIAdem computer and "start all services". Usually the NI Service Manager icon shows up in your system tray at the far bottom right of your computer screen.
Ask again if this isn't enough info,

  • Archive citadel database in MAX hangs

I am trying to Archive a 4.13 GB uncompressed DSC database on LabVIEW 2013 SP1 (although the database was started with LabVIEW 2013).  I have tried twice and it gets stuck (new location folder size is at 151 MB both times).  The progress bar says "Archiving database=20.5%" and "Copying Data=83.0%".  I have chosen the option "Destroy source data after it has been archived (local computer only)".  The status says "copying data" and I no timestamps of files in the new folder have changed after about 9 hours of waiting.  If I cancel, MAX cannot display any Citadel databases.  This is fixed if i reboot.
    Any ideas?

    Hello barkeram,
Where are you storing the archive (locally or remote)?
Are you following the steps in one of the following documents?
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/E076A0661E03F1EB862571A800079E7B
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2B0C74744BB37391862571F500067C64
Can you try to navigate to the file path of the database and duplicate the file? Afterward, manually add the new database to MAX and try to Archive the new file.

  • My Mac just got real slow opening any webpage? My first problem, I purchased two years ago.

I purchased my MacBook Air 13" 23 months ago and it has been awesome! My first Mac. I loaded OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 about two weeks ago without problem. I've been experiencing very slow internet downloads. I've checked all my settings and line speeds, it takes 30 to 45 seconds to bring up a page, before it was 3 to 5 seconds.  Help!

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address then see if the instructions on this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

  • Display archived citadel data mixed with "live" Lookout machine data using Hypertrend object?

Maybe a new feature request item?
It would be really nice if you could use a Hypertrend object in Lookout to plot historical data from an archived Citadel database.  So this would be a feature where you could connect an additional (or many) additional databases as machine processes in (read only mode of course).  This would allow mixing display objects (trends) of running processes along with display objects (trends) of archived "processes" in the same Hypertrend display when using Hypertrend in the historical mode.
The Lookout Hypertrend object is awesome and it is about time you folks gave Lookout some attention again to exploit its power and coolness.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!!

The hypertrend use Citadel service to transfer the data between computer, while the live data is different, so your problem is probably in networking setting or firewall.
If you have firewall on either computer, follow these KBs.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/0D7B86F4B4D19A5E86256F9A006EECB1?OpenDocument
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/8AE45BBFA1D7025E862570F200642FD8?OpenDocument
Lookout client software doesn't install MAX.exe, but if you have MAX.exe on the client computer, you can use MAX to check the connection. In MAX, try to view the remote trace.
You can also use the NI Hypertrend ActiveX object to check the connection. Create a client process with just a NI Hypertrend ActiveX object. Move it to client computer. Edit its properties and add a trace, then try to view the remote trace. See the attached screenshot. If the Citadel communication has problem, you will not see the database or the trace.
The ActiveX object doesn't fix the problem, but can tell you whether the remote connection is good or not.

  • Opening a Standby Database in Read-Only mode

Is there anyway to open a Standby database up to date as of a certain time? I'm currently using the 2 commands to get close to the time required.
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT;
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;
    Such as, similar to this? RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL TIME '2012-01-25:15:00:00';
We're on 11.1.0.7, which I'm currently very unhappy with.
Thanks for any help, as my google-fu hasn't worked today.
    James

    Maybe
    I did a quick test :
8:42 open the databases and start recovery
    8:43 check status from primary
    Shows sequence 75
and "TO STANDBY" for switchover status
Did log switches at 8:44, 8:45, and 8:46
    8:50
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    SQL> RECOVER STANDBY DATABASE UNTIL TIME ' 2012-01-25:20:43:00';
    Media recovery complete.
    SQL>
    8:52
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    Database altered.
    Check status
TO STANDBY and sequence 78Still need to check alert logs and do another log switch. It checks out so the quick test works.
However the quick test is incomplete since there was no before and after data in the test and the time period was very short.
Andy may be right, but I would test, test test. ( if you do please let us know the results )
    Thanks Andy!
    Best Regards

    Later
After sleeping on this I decided my first thought is probably correct. You cannot go back in time and still be in sync. While the test statement did not error or produce any alert log entries, it probably did nothing. Oracle is smart enough to know you cannot have your Cake and eat it too.

  • Logging large .ctl to citadel database is slow

    Hi, All
I'm using LV 8.5  with DSC.
I'm logging my own.ctl types shared variables to citadel database. This own.ctl  includes 52 piece doubles, strings and boolean datatypes. I have 200 piece this tape of shared variables and I record all that shared variable information to citadel database. All operations as writing, reading, achieving, and deleting database are very slow. They also consume lot CPU time. Is there any capacity limits on citadel database ? Which is best structure to record this kind of data to database? I have tested (see attacment) structure but it seems to be very slow because I have to delete and create database trace references after 1st database is full.

When you say "...to Log Data only when necessary... " I assume you are using Set Tag Attribute.vi to establish this behavior.
National Instruments recently added a feature (as a hot-fix) to the DSC Engine to be able to ignore timestamps coming from servers to prevent to log values with "back-in-time" timestamps. Citadel is really critical taking values back in time (logs a ) and therefore retrieval of Citadel data with such back-in-time traces could act wired.
You can find more info from:

I assume you run into such a use case - maybe. It happen to me, too . And I've created a small VI which would analyze traces on back-in-time (NaN - Not a number) values. I assume the missing Data in DIAdem are those Not-a-Numbers aka Break.
If you still encounter some problems after applying the DSCEngine.ini UseServerTimestamps=false, you might contact a National Instruments Support Engineer.

  • Unable to open 11g R2 database now after trying an RMAN restore

Hi my database is not opening now.
What I was trying was to restore the database on my new server from latest database taken from my old live server and applying it on my new 11g DB (new server-database already created)
    old server-11.1.0.7.0-windows 2003 server 32 bit
    new server-11.2.0.3.0-windows 2008 64 bit server
The steps i have done which caused this , (After everything was working fine, i did these foll.steps and now all messed up):
The oracle database on this new server was already 11.2.3.0 -it was not upgrade, i directly installed 11.2.0.3.0 on it + applied latest patches etc.
I took RMAN backup from old server 11.1.0.7.0 oracle database.
Copied this backup to to the new server flash recovery area &every step of the restore  was working fine -
in nomount mode, restored the control file from autobackup-fine
in mount mode, catalogued the files-fine (Backup from old live, copied to new live)
I restored&Recovered the database until the latest archivelogs.
Until the above steps-all worked fine like a normal recovery steps.
Then I gave "alter database open resetlogs" in RMAN prompt, it gave out error and from that point onwards I am unable to open the database now.
Unfortunately, couldnt grab full screenshot of the error in RMAN but the error basically said that bootstrap failed and i have to open the database with the upgrade option?

This is why you do backups both before and after doing other things.
So one way to do something like this:
    Backup old db.
    expdp old db.
    Install new 11gR2, create database.
    Back it up.
    Turn off archivelog.
    impdp
    Turn on archivelog.
    Back it up.
The general thought here is you would start over with the first new db backup if the imp didn't work, you turn off archiving to avoid generating lots of redo that would be for a recovery you would never do.
There is more than one way to do it (TIMTOWTDI), best way depends on details, including volume of data and platform changes.  expdp/impdp has an over the network option if disk space is limited and network is fast.
I usually allow for several tries when going to a new box, since the new box will require testing anyways.

  • Editing tag values logged in tag history / citadel database

    Hi,
I having been logging data from input/output tags and memory tags to my citadel database over the past week and due to some errors in my vi (my fault) some values are showing on my trends that are incorrect. These values are affecting my calculations (e.g. zeros, infinite numbers etc) and I would really like to delete them if possible.
Does anyone know a way of going in to the database/tag history and selecting and deleting values whilst still leaving other data in tact?
    Many thanks,
    Stuart

You can remove the data from a Citadel database using LabVIEW, Lookout or Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). This is a two step process:
First you archive the data that you want to delete. When archiving, choose to delete this data from the original database. The archiving operation will move the data from your database to new database.
The second step is to delete the new archived database. This removes the extra database that was created by the archive operation. Once the data has been archived you can remove the archived data by either deleting the database manually or by using file VIs from LabVIEW.
The document elaborates this process for MAX, LabVIEW and Lookout separately
Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) You must have Historical Data Viewer installed. It comes with Lookout 5.0 and LabVIEW DSC 6.1.
To remove the historical data in MAX, follow these steps:
Under the Historical Data folder in MAX, select the database that you want to remove data from.
Right-click the database and select New View»Trace. This creates a trace view with the default name of New View under the database folder.
On the Trace Attributes page, click on Add new traces. Select the traces you want to archive.
Select a starting and stopping time.
Right-click New View and select Archive.
Enter a directory path to store the archived data.
Check the Delete data from source database checkbox to delete the data from the source database.
    Click Start.
Once it is complete, click Close.

  • Error while trying to open physical standby database - (DATA GUARD)

    Hi Everyone,
I have problems in opening the database of the physical standby in read- write mode/ read only mode. I have a primary server which is running on 2 node RAC and the standby on a seperate single server being used as DR. I recently got this server and my aim was to isolate the standby server from primary server and perform few test. As it has never been tested even once.

  • Slow open a shared worksheet remotely

    Problem:
very slow to open a shared worksheet in excel 2010 remotely. locally open is not a problem. I don't know why?

    Hi Marseugene,
If this issue is occurred by a *.xlsx file or other files? Did you enable the Share Workbook option for you workbook? And if only you get this issue, or other users also have this problem?
There are articles about excel opens slowly over network, please refer to these links:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2570623
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2011/09/29/office-file-validation-causes-slow-opening-of-excel-files-from-network.aspx
It seems that Office File Validation (OFV) causes the issue, you can download and install the Office 2010 File Validation update to help you solve the issue.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2553065
If the issue still exists, you can refer to these articles above and try the workarounds to help you solve your problem.
Or if your issue was caused in wireless net network, please read this article:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2807742
The workaround about this kind of issue is to delete the custom views that you do not need. Then, clear the Print settings check box under the Include in personal view heading in the Share Workbook dialog box. Or, use Excel Services and Microsoft SharePoint
instead of the Share Workbook option.
And the issue also might be related to Internet Explorer performing a search of network drives and your local area network and any disconnected network drives or LAN search issues will hang the loading of your Excel spreadsheet. Here is how to stop Excel
2010 from browsing your LAN / Network drives when you open an Excel spreadsheet on your local hard drive:
    Start Internet Explorer
    Go to "Tools" menu
    Go to "Internet Options"
    Go to "Security" tab
    Go to "Local Intranet"
    Click on "Sites" button
    Uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network"
Please try these methods and let me know if they work, I am glad to help and forward to your reply.
    Regards,

  • Latency in accessing Citadel Database over the LAN

    Hi!
I have two systems running LabVIEW 2013 with DSC 2013 and I am using one of the systems to acquire (using shared variables) and log data internally in the citadel database. I have made an application to visualize this data either locally on the same PC or over the LAN. When I am using the application on the same local machine which is logging the data, its all working fine and very fast. But when I access the same database over the LAN, the application takes a finite amount of time (anything between 2-18 secs everytime) to retrieve and show the data. Since the database size is very small (less than 5MB), logging rate is low (1Hz), number of traces are not much (14 traces), data is boolean, it should not take so much time to show the values over the LAN (the application should be as snappy as it is on the local PC). I am at my wits' end but I am not able to reduce this latency or find any logical reason for it to be present.
I specify the logging PC's name whenever I want to retrieve the trace (as shown in the attached picture), I have a feeling that if I replace that with the IP address of the system, things should become fast. But whenever I try this, LabVIEW throws up an error saying that the specified trace/database does not exist.
I am attaching a pic of the architecture and a simplified image of how I am retrieving the data from the database with this post.
Any help shall be deeply appreciated.

To enable external access without VPN, you must assign an external IP address and also map that external IP to the server. Additionally, you must open the associated ports (http) on the firewall (doesnt matter what firewall you use). You will have to map the extranal ip to the internal IP that you have set on the EBS server configuration. In some cases, you have to enable the proxy as well.
