Slow Outlook 2010 Search functionality

Scenario: 20+ RDS 2012, remote application users. Spanning 3 remote locations connected via cloud based firewall for MPLS vpn. Remote users are reporting very slow outlook 2010 search, resulting in freezing and crashing via remote app. Some users have
very large mailboxes some do not. Is there a best practice for outlook via remote app for caching?
How could I increase the search function speed for the remote users?
~SH

Hi,
Initially please check the network speed for your environment?
Have you face this issue before?
Might possible sometime that through VPN tunnel wasnt encapsulating all traffic and thus can face slowness issue and wasn’t passing HTTPS, Outlook, Active Directory and DNS traffic (all of which are encrypted). In addition, you can go through
this article which provide some more insight points for outlook troubleshooting.
- Check for pst-file corruptions
- Disable and then re-enable the file for indexing
- Reset the index
- Reinstall the Windows Search feature
- Check event-viewer for any useful Event ID\error
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

  • Outlook 2010 search for contacts of connected account

    Hello.
My client has one issue: they can search contacts in their exchange account but the results don't return contacts from an account that she is authorized to (she can see emails from this other account). She doesn't remember what triggered it she just said
it stopped working. The other person has Mac. How do you enable or troubleshoot search shared contacts from connected accounts?
She is using Windows 8 and Outlook 2010 and they have internal exchange server 2007. I have seen this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0403a096-49b1-4a87-a34f-44566c9cf9ab/outlook-2010-searching-a-shared-users-contacts?forum=outlook
where it points me to another site but it doesn't say what the problem could be if you can't search from shared contacts.

    Hi,
Is the user searching within the shared Contacts folder?
Switch to Outlook Online Mode and search, does the issue persist?

  • Outlook 2010 Search Not Working

    Hi All,
After resequencing office a number of times and following the AppV recipie at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983462 I still can't get Outlook 2010 to play nicely.
My sequencing and operating environment is Windows 7 32-bit.
I have configured the proxies according to the AppV recipie and run the client installer but I still cannot get it to work.
    msiexec /i C:\offvirt.msi ADDDEFAULT="Click2runOneNoteProxy,Click2runOutlookProxies,Click2runWDSProxy,Click2runOWSSuppProxies" PACKAGEGUID="{782EF558-1977-466C-B5A8-0975B2996E67}" PACKAGEVERSION=14.0.4755.1000 OUTLOOKNAME="Microsoft Outlook 2010" ONENOTENAME="Microsoft
OneNote 2010" MAPISERVER="Microsoft Virtual Office Simple Mapi Proxy Server" VIRTUALSEARCHHOST="Search MAPI Protocol Handler Host" MLCFG32CPL="Windows Control Panel" OWSSUPPServer="Microsoft SharePoint Client Support Manager"
Is what I use to install the deployment kit and all the values in the arguments are 100% correct.
However the actual registry keys do not reflect what I have entered into the Arguments.
When looking at "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\CVH\" keys they all have strange values.
"Click2runOutlookProxies\MapiProxyServer" for example is set to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Virtualization Client\sfttray.exe" "Simple MAPI Proxy Server "
This is obviously wrong as it's not what I specified. I corrected these manually to:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Virtualization Client\sfttray.exe" "Microsoft Virtual Office Simple Mapi Proxy Server 14.0.4755.1000"
In an attempt to get it to work and the AppV client succeeded in starting the "Search MAPI Protocol Handler".
Despite this no matter what I search for and where I search for it I get "No matches".
It does appear to index the items but doesn't appear to be able to contact desktop search to even try to get a response.
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Outlook 2013 Search Functions?

The search function for my outlook 2013 works sporadically or not at all, or sometimes only when I click on the search "more" (even when the email I am searching for is in my inbox and received within a couple days. So in other words it normally
bring up the results in chronological order, but it does not do that necessarily in this case). Also the search function does not work while searching contacts as well. I use and exchange account and when accessing the information from the web access portal
and my phone there is no issue with searching.
Are there settings to make the search function work properly?
    Please advise.
I have set up a separate profile to test settings and fiddle with the back end, but I am not able to search my emails/contacts properly.

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that search function failed in both Outlook 2013 and OWA seem to all users.

  • Outlook 2010 search missing emails

I have a user that when she tries to search for an email, even though you can see it on screen, it does not find it. It seems to be certain emails on a given day that don't appear in the search results. I've tried searching for sender, subject and content.
    Everyone else is ok
I'm at a loss on why this is happening. The client is XP Pro with Office 2010 RTM. I've also installed windows desktop search but that has made no difference
Has anyone else come across this or know a solution ???

    Hi,
Firstly, I suggest you exit Outlook and restart your computer. When you start Outlook again, verify that Outlook is indexing your items properly by doing the following:
    On the
Tools menu, point to Instant Search, and then click
    Indexing Status.
Alternatively, click the arrow in the
Instant Search pane, and then click Indexing Status on the menu.
Verify that the number of items in the
Indexing Status dialog box has increased. If the number has not increased, you must wait until indexing is complete for the results.
If it still not work, the next step is to rebuild your search catalog. The search catalog is a file where all of your Outlook and Microsoft Windows items are indexed.
To rebuild your search catalog, do the following:
    Exit Outlook.
    In Microsoft Windows, click the
Start button, and then click Control Panel, double-click
    Indexing Options
    Click
    Advanced.
    Click
    Rebuild.
    Restart Outlook.
If all of these options don't solve this issue completely, I think you can create a new outlook profile to have a try.
    Click
Start, point to Settings, and then click
    Control Panel.
    Double-click the
    Mail icon.
    In the
Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
If you want to be able to select a specific profile each time you start Outlook, click the
General tab, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click
    Add.
    In the
New Profile dialog box, under Profile Name, type a descriptive name for the new profile, and then click
    OK.
    In the
E-mail Accounts dialog box, select Add a new e-mail account in the e-mail options, and then click
    Next.
Click the type of server that your e-mail account works with, and then click
    Next.
Complete all of the required fields, including those that are on the tabs that appear after you click
    More Settings.
When you finish providing the required information, click
    Finish.

  • Windows 7 x64 - outlook 2010 - search does not work

    Hi,
    I have a sbs 2011 essentials, and 5 workstations win 7 pro 64 bits.
On one of these Workstation (and not the others), searching for a text in mails in Outlook doesn't work. System tells indexing is in progress. No text can be found (even the sender of a mail displayed on the screen).
Antivirus is MS Security Essentials. The mailbox is not very big.
No Windows live account, mails are stored on the LAN (sbs server).
=> Indexing status: shows everything is indexed (0 remaining).
=> delete/rebuild index then reboot: no change.
=> tried chkdsk /f: no change (and no error found)
=> deleted temp files. No change.
=> checked indexed contents. Outlook, office Note, and a few (small folders). Appdata is excluded from c:\users.
=> Tried when disabling Security Essentials Real-Time protection, no change.
It seems that either text indexing blocks / freezes on a file (perhaps the last one, perhaps due to something else like Antivirus), either doesn't tell Outlook/Windows that indexing is finished.
Is there any way to see where this indexing tool stops? To force it to continue, ...?

    Hi,
What’s Exchange Version? Sometimes, after Installing Exchange 2010 SP 1, Searching via OWA or Outlook Online Mode may Fail. If so, please try the following solution:
    Download the script
    Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1 from the Script Center.
Copy the Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1 script to the Scripts directory on the Mailbox server (default installation is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14\Scripts).
On the afflicted Mailbox server, open the Exchange Management Shell by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting “Run as Administrator”.
Within the Exchange Management Shell, navigate to the Exchange Scripts directory.
Within the Exchange Management Shell, run the following script: .\Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1
Within the Exchange Management Shell, run the following script (without the symbols [] and substitute the database name(s) for any databases you wish to reset: .\ResetSearchIndex.ps1 [-force] <dbname> [<dbname>]...
You will receive an Event ID 109 when the rebuilding of the index starts for each database and an Event ID 110 for each database when the index rebuild has completed.
After receiving Event ID 110 for each database, test to make sure search functions correctly with both OWA and Outlook operating in Online Mode.

  • Search issue with Outlook 2010 SP2 in Online mode

We are dealing with a weird issue that started after a routine maintenance window this past week.  We took our Exchange 2010 server down while we performed maintenance on our SANs.  After bring the servers back up we have developed an issue in
Outlook with searching.  When a user searches for emails only those that are before the outage are returned in the resultant set even if an email from after the outage matches the search.  However, if you search from OWA all the expected results
are returned.  Please remember that we are in Online mode with Outlook and not cached mode.
I can say that I have checked Exchange and it appears that all indexes are fine and the fact that OWA returns the correct result would prove that.
One other thing to note.  If you do an Advanced Find in Outlook and select frequently-used text fields it give weird search results, but it will include the emails from this week.
What am I missing?  I can't think of anything else to look for.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, when Outlook is in Online Mode, the search is based on the Exchange Search Service. Although the search works on OWA, I still suggest you try re-indexing on Exchange Server to check the result.
Moreover, there are some steps we can perform to narrow down this issue:
    1. Switch to Cached Exchange Mode, then the Index is based on the local computer, check if then the issue persists. If the issue persists, we can say it's not about the index, maybe something else stops Outlook from searching properly, such as an add-in.
Also, it can be a workaround if it works in Cached Mode.
    2. Create a new Outlook Profile to setup the account, check if the problem persists. Please do not remove the previous profile as this is just a test, I want to know if the problem persists with a new profile.
Please feel free to post back with more details.

  • Very slow calendar sync with Outlook 2010 users.

    Hi guys.
My company is running Office 365 with hosted Exchange. Most clients are using Outlook 2010 and are reporting that when trying to access shared calendars, all operations are incredibly slow and can take up to a few minutes to show any calendar items. I'm one
of the only users on Outlook 2013 and the Outlook 2013 users don't seem to experience as much of an issue, but it is still there. Is there a way I can look into this to fix it?
Having the calendar shared all over again doesn't seem to fix. It's been suggested that I should run the O365 setup from OWA again - is there any ground to this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Please follow the troubleshooting steps below on this issue:
    1. Disable the firewall and anti-virus program to test again.
    2. We may suspect there’s a 3rd-party add-ins that may be the possible reason, let's run Outlook in Safe Mode, to determine if it is 3rd-party add-ins related.
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
    3. Go to File tab -> Account Settings ->
Account Settings -> Double clicking on the account name ->
More Settings -> Advanced tab ->
Download shared folders, tick or untick the checkbox to check the result.
    4. If the steps above don't help, simply create a new profile to setup the account:

  • "Outlook cannot perform search. Cannot display view." error coming up when searching shared calenders in Outlook 2010.

    Hi,
So I am having issues with the advanced find feature in Outlook 2010. When I goes to search a shared calender it gives me the "Outlook cannot perform search. Cannot display view." error. It is odd because it only does it with shared calenders
and only when a calender is selected. If I search my inbox it works fine. It also works fine when I first open Outlook and perform a search without selecting any calenders. If I select on it then gives me the error. I have tried resetting the views, I ran
cleanfinders and I went through this page (http://www.msoutlook.info/question/47) and rebuilt the index/scanned the pst/etc. Nothing seems to be working. I would appreciate some help if anyone knows why this would be happening.
    Thank you for your time,
    Gabe M.

Pst file size would not cause this and Outlook 2010 can have huge pst files as long as you use the new Unicode format.
If the problem is a corrupt view, cleanviews will clear it. I'm sure there are other causes besides corrupt views, but I can't think of any at the moment.
Does it work in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.

  • In Outlook 2010/MS Exchange, can't search shared contacts

Have had MS Outlook 2010 for quite some time, and I really like it. However, since I got a new computer, I'm not able to search the contacts of my 2 bosses. Since my one boss has over 1700 contacts, I really need the ability to search his contacts back!
What happens is even if I am in Jon's contacts, it jumps to my contacts to do the search
From Outlook 2010 - File - Open - Other User's Folder - I do press enter when i've typed in the person/company i'm looking for.
Help desk guys have told me it is a compatability issue with Outlook 2010 - which sounds stupid to me since I had no problem till i got a new computer

    Hi,
I have done a test on my lab machine and the search result was pretty good.
Please make sure the Outlook version is up to date. Try switching the Outlook to Online Mode and check if the issue persists.
You can also try rebuilding the Outlook Profiles and run Outlook in Safe Mode by:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. Input "Outlook.exe /safe" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.
Note: There is a space between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
    3. Please check if the issue persist.

  • No default search folders in Outlook 2010

    Hi there,
I joined a new company and we use Exchange 2010 SP3 UR6 with Outlook 2010. All users are using Online-Mode, nothing cached. Nobody has the default search folders. I ran outlook with /cleanfinders /resetfolders, nothing.
It's not vital of course, but I'm still wondering how that can be. New and old mailboxes only have the "root" Search Folder. Left click on it does nothing (is this normal? From my memory I don't think so), right click offers to create a new one...
    Cheers

    Hi,
Your administrator can specify whether to create the standard default Search Folders when Outlook starts for the first time by using group policy. See:
Please contact your administrator and confirm if he has applied the policy. For your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179004(v=office.12).aspx
Note: This article is for Outlook 2007, it also applies to Outlook 2010.
-> Left click on it does nothing (is this normal? From my memory I don't think so), right click offers to create a new one...
This is the default behavior, we need to use right click > New Search Folder to create new search folders.
    Hope this helps.
