Slow PDF scrolling on new 12" MacBook

I recently tried the new 12" MacBook at the Apple Store and noted very poor PDF scrolling and re-sizing. It was very choppy for even basic scientific journal articles without many bitmaps or vector graphic images. Has anyone else experienced this? I was able to reproduce it on several machines. The MacBook Airs and Pros each were generally fast and even faster with transparency off.

Please see Bluetooth not seen in Windows as a reference. The new 12" MB has BT issues with Windows.

Back up all data. Quit Preview if it's running.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:

  • Safari 6 Slow PDF Scroll and Behavior !!!!

    ! Hi !
I've just upgraded from Lion to ML and noticed something wierd.  If I open a pdf link in Safari 6, and the embedded PDF viewer starts, safari becomes Slow scrolling the PDF and sometimes Stops for 2 pr 3 seconds.
Is Anyone having the same problem?
    Can someone help me?
    Best Regards,
    Stejimenez

Just adding my $.02 here as well, Safari Version 6.0 (8536.25) seems buggy, for example, right now none of my keyboard shortcuts work, changing tabs, back, or the mouse gestures like back or scrolling do not work.
    for clairfication I'm on a Macbook Pro 17 OS X 10.8 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I use the following key commands in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
⌘ ←  to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
⌘⌥← (or ⌘⌥→) to switch tabs (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
I use the following gestures in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
two-finger vertical swipe to scroll (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
three-finger horzontal swipe to the left to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
Through further testing I think it's site specific, gestures do not work while on stackoverflow or facebook, but do work on w3cschools and wordpress.org -- huh.

  • Ultra-Slow PDF's on new HP DJ 6980 (MacOS 10.3.9 with Reader 6.0)

Any size PDF from any source takes between 5-10 minutes before the printer spits it out in the usual seven seconds. Any other document, web page, etc prints quickly. Using Rendezvous, Ethernet connection thru Linksys router/switch. Print box from Reader 6.0 comes up with the selected printer, no problems. Of course, HP says "non-PostScript printer blah, blah, blah, "printer or machine memory issues blah, blah", basically it's not their job to make PDF files work. Only took a few seconds on my trusty (and still working) EPSON Stylus Color 740. I'm coming to this discussion to see if there might be any Panther issues known with this printer and it's software. Posted in Abode Reader forum but nothing for four days. Cheers.

    iMac 700MHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank you for your response. Yes, you are right to suggest upgrade to 10.4 of course, but I've read stories of how it is slower, especially since I only have 256 MB on my iBook G4.
Sorry to say, but good news all the same for others in my situation, that the new browser Camino 1.6.4 is the best solution to this problem.
I installed Camino on my 10.3.9 and it works great, faster than Safari, better features, about the same feel and functionality, and completely stable with no crashes regardless of which web site I visit, keeping Javascript enabled. (I also tried FIrefox and it crashed on the same sites as Safari.)
So, all you users who still insist on their 10.3.9 OS, switch to Camino and experience crash-free browsing!

  • Experiencing extremely slow pdf printing on new HP 8625 officejet -

Getting very slow printing of pdf's.  Tried setting in Advanced tab to let printer select color.  This did not help.  Using latest version of Adobe Reader and latest printer driver from HP.  Anyone have suggestions?  HP was no help in an hour chat.  They blame it on Adobe.  Makes no sense since my 9 year old HP Officejet had no such issue.

Any chance someone on "Staff" might address this question?

  • New retina macbook pro 13" slow animations

I am experiencing slow animations on my new retina macbook pro 13" (I have the middle 2,4 Ghz base model). This happens throughout the whole system, especially noticeable is the animation on the login screen and the laggyness when scrolling list views from inside your dock (for example scrolling your downloads or documents in "list view" mode inside the dock). But it also happens when scrolling in finder or with some window animations.
The solution that solves this problem is plugging in my external monitor which doesn't have retina resolution. Now everything is really smooth again like it should be.
I also checked a friends macbook pro (he's having exactly the same but with the more powerfull i7 processor) and it turned out he is not having those issues.
What I tried so far is resetting the NVRAM and a full new installation but neither did solve anything. I am not using any third party software which could cause this, it's also happening on a bare minimum system.

I have met the same problem too!
Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.
I have been using my macbook for 2 days.
And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!
The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.
But actually the system is working and the apps are working.
And the power button can actually work.
So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.
    And then everything is okay.
Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.
When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.
But after several mins, it works again.
It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.
And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.
I think it is a software problem?
Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

  • Can not use scroll mouse in html tab when open pdf file in new tab with middle button but will avaliable only after switch to pdf tab and switch back to html

When I open a "pdf" file in new tab with middle mouse click. After few second my mouse will not able to scroll in page that I read. But it will be able to scroll only after I click to any opened pdf tab and click on pdf document and click back on previous tab to continue reading. It is not only happen on my laptop also on my desktop too. (winxp 4gb/8gb ram core2 duo 2.66)

There's a Bug filed about that issue.

  • Can't side scroll on new MacBook trackpad

I am unable to use a two finger scroll to scroll sideways on my (new model) MacBook Pro. I can do vertical scrolling in a window, but not side to side. I used to be able to, but one day I just noticed I can't.
I've checked in Safari, Finder, Preview, and iPhoto. These are times there is a left-right scroll bar present. The option is checked in the Preference pane.
So basically, if I'm looking at a photo, I can do a two finger scroll up and down, but I can't go left and right.
    Any ideas?

    No such checkbox exists there.
    I see:
    One Finger
    X Tap to Click
    _ Dragging
    _ Drag Lock
    Two Fingers
    X Secondary Click
    X Sroll
    Pinch Open & Close
    Rotate
    _ Screen Zoom (Options...)
    Three Fingers
    Swipe to Navigate
    X = checked checkbox
    _ = unchecked checkbox
    = no checkbox

If you haven't already done so, try this simple step first.

  • I want to I create PDFs on my new Macbook Pro, can someone recommend a good software program via apple store?

I want to create PDFs on my new Mac Pro, can someone recommed a download from Apple IStore?

The Mac OS has built-in PDF generation. Anthing you can print, you can create a PDF.
In some apps like Preview, you can do "Save as..." to create the PDF:
In other apps you have PDF options at the bottom left of the "Print..." dialog box:
Basically you have no need to spend money to create simple PDFs.

  • Extremely Slow when Opening a new tab

I have just bought my new Retina MacBook Pro after my 3 years Macbook Pro 13" is total lost and get the Mountain Lion OSX with latest 10.8.2 version
After migrating the MacOSX from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, my Mac is everything ok but without Safari.
Once I wanna open a webpage from bookmarks bar, I usually open a new tab then click one of webpage in one of the bookmarks bar. The problem was happened in this action.
After I opening a new tab which I have set to show top site rather than History (all top site are locked like a set of bookmarks), the system extremely slow down even I just move my mouse from one bookmark to another on the bookmarks bar, it still have a bit serious delay more than a second.
I have just tested, if i choose history not top site is shown when I am opening a new tab, the performance really better. However, when I scroll to somewhere all have thumbnails for those webpages, the performance still slow down but not yet as serious as the top site and I think becasue I have choose over 12 webpages for topsite (which are all have thumbnails).
My new Retina MacBook Pro is the lower default spec i7 2.3GHz and the version now is MacOSX 10.8.2 with Safari 6.0.1
one of place I want to mentioned is my Safari and Safari Webpage Content are over 500MB once I have opened. Is it common and normal? I feel really upset that my new Mac doesn't really faster than before but the older one is Core 2 duo and 4GB ram vs the new one is i7 2.3GHz and 8GB ram....oh my god

Try clearing history and the cache...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:  Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaning boxes then click Reset.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.
See if that made a difference.

  • FF 19 + Newest Adobe Reader = Failure. The newest update to FF with the newest Adobe reader is absolutely horrible. It is slow to load, slow to scroll pages,

Using FF19 and apparently Adobe reader 11.0.2.0. This new version is HORRIBLE, very slow to scroll pages, and flat out does not work with some work web pages I need. How do I revert to a previous version of Adobe to get back to the old format and layout that works well? I tried disabling the plug-in in FF and it did not change.

hello, firefox 19 has introduced its own integrated pdf viewer - if you want to switch back to the plugin you've used before to view pdfs just go to firefox options > applications & scroll down and define the default action for the '''portable document format (pdf)'''.

  • Slow to scroll

All of a sudden my Logic Pro X is super slow, even scrolling up and down through the tracks/up and down on the page to see tracks below off the screen, the program is slow, staggers, stops and starts. I have maybe 25 tracks but very little plugins running, never had this problem before, is there a reason I am missing?
I do not have any plugins going that are not native to Logic X Pro
I restarted my computer and the external hard drive I am running the files from, as well as my audio interface?

Thank you so much, I downloaded and ran the program:
When logic x is open, with me simple scrolling up and down the screen with my trackpad on a project with automation I got this (I am using Mavericks still never updated).
I am going to try a brand new project and add automation and see if it happens right away.
    Problem description:
Whenever I have automation in my project, the project slows down whenever I try to do something, even as simple as scrolling up and down the screen.

  • Driver issue FIXED in Vista / boot camp with new, unibody macbook pro!!

Hay people, I found a fix for the freezing issues with Vista running in Boot camp with the new, unibody Macbook pros. The driver for the 9600M Gt is no good if you install it from the Apple 2.1 version driver disc (Mac osx disc)for some (most) of us.
I needed to go to Nvidia's site and download the one from DECEMBER 08. If you click the "download drivers" tab on the site, scroll past the current driver it wants you to look at (go to the near bottom of page), click the archives, and input your OS version. Also input "Gforce" and "M" series when needed. It will give you a choice of two drivers. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FEB 09 Driver. Thats the BAD driver for most of us. Choose the DECEMBER 08 driver. Download and enjoy. Be sure to roll back the VGA driver (or the current driver) first before you install this. It should work.
I've been through the ringer with this for weeks now and have even tried to take my MBP back to swap for a new one. Apple wont have any of that so I thought I was SOL. Not quite. This DOES work for me with Vista. It also works for Windows & if you have it handy.
By the way, I am posting this for people who HAVE HAD THE FREEZING problems, not for people who haven't. Apparently there are some out there who are running Vista just fine on their unibody MBS's. Most of us are not.
Cheer's-----Seattle, where the evil empire looms dark

This never worked. I sold that machine and got a new 17" unibody. IT, by the way, works just fine. I KNEW it was that **** 15'. It took 30 more seconds to boot up I found out also.

  • Migration from non-Firewire MacBook to new Retina MacBook

I have just purchased a new Retina MacBook.  My current MacBook is the 2008 model without a Firewire port.  Since the old MacBook does not have Firewire or Thunderbolt, and the new MacBook does not have Ethernet, I am left with Wi-Fi as the migration alternative.  I suspect that this will be a VERY slow procedure.
I do have an external USB 2 hard drive with a full bootable backup.  My question is:  Can I connect this hard drive via USB to the new MacBook and migrate the files? If so, would this be faster than using Wi-Fi?
    Thanks for any advice.

Just to add a bit about my  experiences with the transfer. It did finally work, but it wasn't easy!
When I finally got the cable (after Fedex lost it for 3 days), the instructions on the Apple site were totally inadequate.  They didn't explain that you should turn off wi-fi on the computers, or how to set them up for Ethernet transfer on the Network screen, then get them back on wi-fi when you were done. This was not as easy as it should have been -- or at least not for me!
I finally got the two connected properly and then realized (this was admittedly my fault) that I had not upgraded the Migration Assistant on the old computer. So I had to go back and start from zero again.
I also could not get the window to open to give me a choice of which sub-folders to transfer.  So I ended up transferring everything.  Not a major issue, but just more time consuming.
However, once finished, everything was pretty much where it belonged, and all my apps were fine.  The only one that gave me any problem was Dreamweaver.  The transfer did not move DWs configuration files, but I was able to fix that by copying that Configuration folder over to the new computer via wi-fi.
By the way, those instructions that Ogelthorpe linked to, even though they say they are for 10.6, are more complete and explicit than the ones on the Apple site specifically for Mavericks.  So thanks very much for the help!
