Slow power on b4 seeing MSI logo (MSI Z87-G43 GAMING)

My question is, why it takes up to 10 seconds to power on before seeing the MSI logo.
My rig boots in Windows 8.1 Pro UEFI mode with RAID, see summary of rig below.
When booting it sometimes takes up to 10 seconds for the MSI screen to appear, the one with the MSI logo. Once the MSI logo appears the boot is fast, usually between 6 to 8 seconds.
Total boot time around 16 seconds
Please help thanks

Yes, nothing suspicious there, everything loads perfectly. See result below.
From the moment this is displayed, it takes just 6 seconds for Windows to be functional. However, it takes around 10 seconds before this appears on the display.
To be clear, or at least for me to be clear, what you see in the screenshot is the BOOT and not the POST, during the actual POST (power on self-test), the user should not see anything on the display.
Is that correct or have I got it wrong.

  • MSI Z87-G43 gaming + i5 4690K compatibility

    hello there
so, i built a new pc a few days ago and i decided to go with these 2 options (msi z87-g43 gaming + i5 4690K)
anyway, i saw that some people have issues and that it's kind of a roll of a dice whether this specific motherboard will boot with the 4690K or not. From what i saw, it depends on the motherboard's manufacture date and if it has a A5/A6 bios version or not.
now, what i'd like to know is; is there a way to check the bios version of the specific motherboard without opening the box? (i'll have my new hardware probably tomorrow)
i'm really thinking about getting another mobo, i'm not sure what i'll do though.. A friend told me, even though it wont have the A5/A6 bios version, it'll probably  boot and i'll be able to update it through windows. He also told me there's a really small chance i'll need another cpu to update the bios and then put my cpu on the mobo.. As i said, roll of a dice.
    Any advices/tips?

  • MSI Z87-G43 Gaming and R9 290 OC Windforce not playing nice

Hi, already tried search but can find a solution, i have an Z87-G43 Gaming(Bios 10.30) and bought an Gigabyte R9 290 OC ref:GV-R929OC-4GD-GA(BIOS F3L). All is on latest Firmware/BIOS.
The problem is that the motherboard wont recognize my 290 on first PCIE 3. It works on second 16x slot. THe thing is... An Gigabyte 7950,Sapphire 7970, Unknown NVIDIA 7200gs all work in the first slot... now that i got bf4 my 290 doesnt work in the first slot... Latest bios from MSI say's vga compat. improved. The computer boots fine with the integrated vga and in bios it shows the first slot as empty. Anyone?

Like I said best to contact both and see what you can do. When I check VBIOS for MSI cards, there are normally newer versions available, so best to check. On the other hand if it is a bios issue, MSI can get on it.

You have to return it to the seller if you want a replacement (LiveUpdate hasn't voided warranty as that was provided by MSI). Otherwise look around the city for repair center and ask if they can restore badly flashed BIOS on this mobo.

    TY

I agree with XFM. Corsair would be the better choice. They do very well on MSI mainboards. For a gaming machine, 1600 RAM speed is reliable, and it is the native support speed for the CPU IMC. Rendering machine, then maybe faster RAM of at least 16GB total or more. Some CPU's can be finicky, so anything past 1600 speed is not always a guarantee.

I can't boot my IMac. I loaded OSX and first mail then contacts start acting up.
I shut down and now the iMac won't boot. When I press the power botton it comes on, I see Apple logo, swirl and a bar which saw loading for a few seconds and then shuts it self off.

Try an SMC reset first, and if that doesn't help, follow up with a PRAM reset:

If you're still having problems try a 'Safe Boot' - restart holding down the shift key until you see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.
If that doesn't work, boot into the Recovery HD, launch Disky Utility and check the Macintosh HD using the 'repair disk' option. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass, then restart as normal from the Apple menu.
To start into the Recovery HD restart holding down Command + r

  • MSI Z77A-G43 Gaming Crossfire

    Hi there,
It´s my first post here so greetings all  I have a question regarding MSI Z87 G43 GAMING motherboard and crossfire. I noticed, a bit too late, that the G43 does not crossfire in a x8/x8 mode! Is this a performance compromiser? I mean, I´ve noticed a great scaling in BF4 with seetings in High (no AA; with SSAO) running the game with a 3 screen display - compared with single card I went from 50-80 FPS to 70-130.
So, if I understand correctly from the board specs, I have one graphic card at x16 and the other x4?
    Thanks for your attention.

So... I´ve been searching other MSI alternatives towards minimizing the cost of my ignorance. I found MSI Z87-G55 - 3 PCIe 3.0x16. The price is 30€ less than the G45 (110€ vs 140€) and the only visible diference is the network adapter (Realtek® RTL8111G Vs Killer E2205). Can you tell me if this is a good choice?
    My specs:
    Core i7 4770K
    Gskill 2*8GB 1866
    SSD Samsung 840
    ASUS 7970ghz DCII Top
    PowerColor R9280X
Also checked the G55 OC Genie feature in BIOS. I´m currently using that with my G43 and it´s very simple efficient and absolutely stable and trouble free. Is the BIOS in the G55 similar to the G43? Hope you could answer all this m8... sorry for such inquiry :P
    Thanks again for your attention

  • Motherboard not geting past MSI logo display - please help me if you can

    Hello all
I have recently purchased a motherboard kit from a very respected retailer so all my components are compatible. It consisted of an MSI KT4V motherboard, an AMD Sempron 2600, a stick of 256MB DIMM, and a heatsink. I have installed them all as best to my knowledge but on booting up for the first time all I am getting is what looks to be an MSI logo screen. I have changed the jumper switches and tried other things but I am unable to get to the BIOS or anything.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know of any methods I could take to try and resolve it ?
    Thanks

    Hello again.
First can I just say thanks to everyone who has posted a reply to me here. I have brought my motherboard manual in for any specifications that is needed, unfortunately my power supply is back at my flat but it came with a chassis I bought from a different company. I know it's 400w if that's any consolation.
Please understand that I am unable to get anywhere near BIOS - literally as soon as I power it up the power light comes on, you can hear the hard drives whirring, the DVD ROM spins, etc. but almost instantly an MSI logo is displayed on the screen and from there I can;t do anything. I am not given the chance to do anything before. Hitting Del does nothing, in fact the keyboard doesn;t even light up at all when I switch my computer on, almost as if it doesn;t recognise it or it doesn;t get as far as reading it or something. Surely there can;t be a problem with my graphics card as I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to see the dreaded MSI logo. I reseated most stuff like the RAM and swapped IDE cables etc. and that seems fine. I am really getting sick of seeing that infernal MSI logo screen !!

  • My computers still doesnt work...freezes at msi logo

Well I posted here a few weeks ago because the bios flash failed on my msi k8t neofisr2. I sent it back, and they reflashed and I received it in the mail today. Put in everything, no problems. I press the power switch, see the msi logo, and it just sits there. Forever. Now when I look at the little D bracket lights on the back there all light up, which means the cpuis bad or not installed properly. Im pretty sure it is the cpu, because when I was removing the cpucooler and cpu before the thermal compound formed a seal so tight when I lifted up on my cooler it just ripped the cpu out as well. The pins look perfectly straight, but the base of some look a little different, a little shiner. If this ruined my cpu, which I believe it did, Its a very poor design that the cooler rips out the cpu because of the stickiness of the thermal compound. Obviously its not msi's fault because they dont design the cooler or the cpu......pisses me off though, I really cannot afford anoother close to 200 hundred dollar processor. If its not a faulty processor please tel me what to do, I tried reseting the cmos by taking the jumper out for about 20 seconds and it had no effect. It just hangs at the msi screen at the very start....but this wouldnt have happend if their liveupdate feature hadnt mysteriously failed for no reason. Liveupdate should be taken out, and bios flashing should be left to only through the floppy and dos method, which is much more reliable and less likely to spawn problems like these.
    System Specs:
    K8t neo fisr2
    amd64 3000
    1 gig of corsair VS (2 x 512)
    WD Raptor 70 gig
    msi 9800 pro
    425 w psu
    Dvd Burner etc
    Normal Sony floppy
    Windows xp home

*read the bottom ifyou dont want to read it all, just here to archivemy total process*
Well my pc ram perfectly before I had this whole bios flash problem, and I mean flawlessly, not one crash for over a month in windows xp (amazing huh?) So I doubt that its the PSU or memory. I did forget that you have to move the little jumper, Ill try that immediatly! I pray that it works.... and just to letyouknow, I did wiggle the cpu cooler like it says in the manual, im very careful aboutthings especialy 200 dollar cpus. Didnt help at all though, I propably spent 20minutes trying to get it out before it was ripped. The pings are not bent, I checked very very carefuly by looking at the side of it. Right now I have just the cpu in their without the cooler for testing purposes, just to see if I can get past the first screen. I doubt it will overheat within just a few seconds of simple bios type stuff. Ill try reseting the jumper now. IF that first screen comesup, does that say anything? Can my cpu still be good, I mean if it was bad would that screen even show up? If I can get intothe bios ill disable it, I had it that way before. Thanx for the help, and the thermal grease I used was the one that came with the cooler, and then recently some fairly cheap grease that I bought the other day, it was white and came in  little tube, I hope amd will not recognize it as bad if I send it back.....
Is it more likely that my mobo socket is damaged or the cpu? Mobo is muchhhh cheaper lol
O yes and by the way jocko the mobo just gives off one normal beep during startup, like it usually does If I remember correctly. How accurate is that dbracket thing anyways? Cables were all connected, I disconnected everything and tried both of my 512 sticks of corsair vs in slot one, and tried it with them both in slots 1 and 2 before.  I am now about to start it up again after reseting the jumper by moving it down to the lower pins, nowmoving it up as im typing this. Update soon.
SUCESS!!!! I RESET THE JUMPER AND IT GETS PAST THAT SCREEN! I am now installing the cpu cooler, the screen I saw said "bios not installed".I never thought that message could make me so happy lol, but "bios not installed" is a nice site to see! I read another similar post about this same problem, where the guy had to keep reseting his jumper. Im so glad nothing is hopefuly damaged! Thankyou guys so much! I will read his, and ifyou have any more fixes please tell me.
I have also decided to never update my bios on my mobo again lol
Update: I do not have to reset the jumper ervery time, how it always does say bios not installed. So far I have botted into windows just fine, but my mouse will not be detected.... strange. I am chekcing cmos settings now, it seems to remembereven when I turn it off, however it still says bios not installed...
Update again: I startup my computer, I turned off qucik boot, and now it says "flash recovery"and freezes......help? I got my mouse working by the way before...very strange. I am now gonna resetthe jumper, and then see how things work. I also noticed in theupper left that it says I have bios ver 1.7..... why wouold my bios not be good when it was flashed by msi? Very strange...I reset it and now it freezes at msi logo again lol, reseting again... I believe I have to flash the bios, or that maybethe motherboard is flakey.... idn.Now even when I reset it it will not fix the problem, it just sits at the msi screen.Im anow unplugging all power connectors etc to see ifthat makes a difference and letting it sit for awhile. If I do flash I woulw ant to do it with an older bios, one that I KNOW works, probably 1.2 or something similar. 1.7 seems to have many problems.
Update again: Well, I cant get it to go pastthe stupid msi screen now, and I cant get into the bios..... I might try to do the recovery flash thingsoon, I might have the recovery disk lying around here somehwere......Well I put in the recovery disk, the logo comesup, I press ctrl +home, nothing happens. I tried it at different internvals no effect. This really really sux... did they flash it wrong or something?........I dont think the cpu is bad becuase it booted twiceinto xp just fine, fast and normal. However now I get nothing....
I getthe error message on d bracket: Bottom attempt: this will set low stack and boot via INT 19h
HELP JOCKO! or anyone else! Im stumped.

  • HELP! GE70 shows _ or - after MSI logo, cannot reboot or enter OS

I was working on my GE70 today. Suddenly it froze, hot reboot did not work, so I had to pressed the power button to turn off the laptop. When I turned it on, it only showed a white - or _ character with a black background after the MSI logo, and it stuck there. I had to power off and on again, and pressed the F11 button this time, it entered into BIOS directly (it is weird that it did not show the Boot Menu as usual). It still showed the white - or _ after leaving BIOS, I thus had to power off and on the again. Since this point, I have never been able to enter BIOS.
I tried the following, none of them make a miracle.
    1. uninstalled and installed HD drive
    2. uninstalled and installed memory sticks
    3. reset EC
I found a post describing the same symptom at https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=252292.msg1450679#msg1450679 , but I was not able to locate the battery for CMOS.
Has anyone encountered the similar issue? I really want to fix it without sending the laptop to MSI, as it seems a long journey...

    Problem resolved
The issue was caused by the boot SSD. According to the conversation with the support, the white dash may indicate a defective boot device.
Today I plugged the SSD with an mSATA-SATA adapter, and connected it to another computer. The SSD was recognized as an unformatted disk in the Disk Management. I had to format it and placed it back in GE70. Then I restored Windows 8 to SSD with the Recovery Image created before. GE70 can restart as usual!
However, I still don't have the access to BIOS. It keeps showing the little white dash after pressing F3.
I searched the forum and found the following helpful posts. Since I am able to log into Windows 8, I simply executed FLASHWIN64.BAT in CMD.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=250946.msg1444612#msg1444612

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=184427.msg1323582#msg1323582
Now everything works again! I need to figure out why the SSD crashed and became unformatted, which triggered the nightmare.

My MSI GT60 laptop won't boot past the MSI logo.
I also can't access the BIOS.
so your laptop freezes at MSI logo and if you spam or press DELETE button few times on boot do you then only get "-" line? if so then either it's bios has hanged itself so if your able to access cmos battery from back area where you can access hard drive, ram and such then disconnect cmos battery leave it disconnected for 15 mins also make sure ac and battery is disconnected to once done put cmos battery back and then actuall battery and try with starting the laptop and see if it passes by MSI logo if it hangs again at MSI logo then spam Delete and see if you can enter bios but if bios throws an black screen with "-" again then you would have to RMA your laptop since it sems something is wrong with your motherboard causing bios not wanting to work propertly.
