SLOW printing with HP PhotoSmart 7960

If this has already been addressed in another thread, please someone point me there, but:
Problem is that suddenly my HP PhotoSmart 7960 has started to take 1/2 hour to print a simple single page of text. I'm using OS X 10.3.9, by the way.
Tried updating the drivers from HP - no good. Tried Repair Permissions - no good.
Can someone out there tell me how to completely remove any trace of HP software / drivers from the hard drive? Is there a print queue or memory buffer that needs to be purged? Figured I'd re-install the original drivers if I could completely remove any trace of a printer or print job having previously existed.
Spent more than a few frustrating hours on this - any help is appreciated!

1-2 minutes! Try 10-15 minutes on my Photosmart. These things are junk. I have discussed my many issues with phone support 10-12 times in the last six months with no progress.

  • Extremely slow printing with hp photosmart d110

Recently, I've had extremely slow wireless printing from my laptop to our HP Photosmart D110 series printer.  The printer is part of our wireless network and is used by my business laptop and our home laptop.  When I send a simple Excel spreadsheet to print, the printer screen says, "Printing", the on/off light flashes and it looks like it's printing.  But it takes 1-2 minutes for the document to finally print.  This problem does not occur when we print from the home laptop; things print instantly.  No updates or system changes before this problem started.

  • I cannot select the Paper Size when I try to print with HP Photosmart B110a with Windows 8.1 64bit

I cannot select the Paper Size when I try to print with HP Photosmart B110a
The same printer was working OK with my old PC with OS Windows 7
However I got a new PC with OS Windows 8.1 64bit
I installed the new driver for HP Photosmart B110a that I dowloaded from HP site. Driver forWindows 8.1 64bit.
In addition to not being able to chose the paper size, also when I go to Printer Properties in Options, all the characters are non-ascii.
Do you know what may be the problem?
    Thank you

    Hello Nanu64,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issues when attempting to print from your computer.
I also see that you stated that not all the options are available in the printing preferences options.  This could be because the installation was not complete or it failed.
I suggest that we do a complete uninstall/ reinstall as well as some additional steps.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If you have the printer connected to the computer with a usb cable, please remove the cable from both ends and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The next link that I have for you will give you detailed instructions for Uninstalling the Printer Software.  Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer so that the changes take affect.
When the computer is back up and running, please disable any firewalls or anti virus protection you may have running. We don't want anything getting in the way of the reinstall.
The following download is the HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers.  Save this download to the desktop of the computer so that it creates its own icon.  This will make it easy for us to find when the download is complete.
Double click the new icon and follow the installation instructions.  The installation will give you connection options (Wireless , usb or Ethernet), if connecting usb, please wait for the prompt to connect the cable.  Connecting the usb cable before hand can cause an issue with the installation.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Extremely slow wireless printing with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm seeing extremely slow print speeds when printing wirelessly from a Mac or a Windows XP system to a new HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The printer begins printing immediately when I request a print, but it only prints one line. It will then take about 15 minutes to print the rest of the page, printing each line after a very long pause. Demo page printing doesn't exhibit this problem, only documents from programs like Word 2008, Safari and Firefox (tried firefox on PC and Mac) are affected.
If I connect to the printer through a USB connection it prints fine, so this problem appears to be with wireless printing only.
    Printer: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m
Computer: Mac mini (Late 2009 model) (also tried a Windows XP laptop as a comparison, using latest drivers from HP's website)
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2 with all available updates installed
Computer connection method: Wired Ethernet connection to wireless router
Printer drivers: version 2.2.1 (Apple supplied, HP drivers never installed as system shipped with 10.6)
Wireless router: Apple TimeCapsule (Early 2009) 1TB, running in a/n and b/g modes on 2.4 and 5GHz. TimeCapsule is in bridging mode as the DSL modem handles DHCP service
Encryption: WPA2 Personal, no MAC filtering or hiding of the SSID.
IP addressing scheme: All addresses are handed out by DHCP server with no reservations of any kind
The TimeCapsule is sitting three inches from the printer and the printer indicates full signal. Connection of the printer to the wireless network and setup of the printer on the Mac went without a hitch. Only when printing a test document did we discover the problem. The wireless network is behaving as expected when accessing the Internet from both Mac and Windows devices (tested with a Dell laptop running XP and a MacBook running OS X 10.6.2), so I don't see any overall problems with the wireless network.
    Attempted remedies:
    1. Rebooting and powering off, waiting, powering on computer
    2. Resetting the print subsystem, turning the printer off and on again and reinstalling the printer
    3. Unplugging power from the printer and letting it sit for several minutes before trying to print wirelessly.
    None of these worked.
    This question was solved.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DSL modem HW.  There might be an issue with how print data is being routed though.
Please try the second experiment where you blank-out the default gateway and DNS entries from the printer's internal web configuration page.  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the DSL modem, the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the DSL modem and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.  See if this corrects the printing speed.

  • Problem printing with HP Photosmart 7520 printer.  Same bad result independent of advanced settings.

How can it be that, no matter what settings (advanced, custom, PS manages color, Printer manages color,...) I get the same terrible result for a reference photo (dull, colorless)?   It is as if the PS CS6 is not controlling anything with these settings.   Is there something else I need to set to make this work?  (Old HP Photosmart 7960 works fine, but they stopped manufacturing new photo cartridges).  The 7520 all-in-one makes copies of graphics with excellent, accurate color rendition so it is something with the settings for the printer.  The device can print good color.   HP support  says its Photoshop settings.  I don't know what it is.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Slow Printing with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 on Terminal Service

When I want to print something on a Terminal Server without admin rights its very slow, when I print with admin rights its fast. Can someone told me where is the problem with the rights?
    Thanks

It could be that the Printer Setting has been set to ensure that the Duplex Printing would no longer be applied and its overriding the Printer Dialog settings.
You could check the Printer setting to ensure that duplex printing is enabled.

  • Problems printing with Hp Photosmart D5160

keep hearing the printer sound when connecting with compuer threough USB and when I go to print a page it sdaysd spooling and printing, but just keeps saying that but prints nothing, help please.

''' "The HP Smart Web Printing application is not supported in the Firefox web browser." '''
Misleading statement, like a lawyer wrote it - HP Smart Web Printing doesn't support Firefox. For some reason HP hasn't kept up with new versions of Firefox after the 3.5 version, and prior to that version the update to SWP for Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 came many months after those versions were released.
As far as the slow printing in Firefox, see if anything here helps you. <br />

  • Anyone printing with HP Photosmart Pro B9180?

Has anyone been successfully printing with their HP Photosmart Pro B9180 after upgrading to Leopard? I am considering buying one of these printers but only if I am sure that it will work with Leopard as a network printer.
    Thanks for any comments.

I haven't printed a lot yet, but have run a few test prints on my B9180 under Leopard and have been getting very good results, comparable to those I got printing under Tiger.
So far my tests have been restricted to printing from Adobe Lightroom and onto HP Advanced Glossy paper, but I haven't seen any problems yet. I hope to be trying some other papers and applications over the next few days.
Note: The print dialog has been completely reorganized under Leopard, and some of the options you need to adjust to get good prints have been relocated to places that aren't obvious, so it pays to poke around.
    Jim,
Did your monitor appear any different after installing Leopard?
I did manage to pick my way through the new dialog boxes and found everything that I needed but the color is bad.

  • IPP / LPD Printing with HP Photosmart 6180

I've connected my HP 6180 to my home network and manually assigned it an ip address. I've been trying to print to it over the internet using IPP (port 631) or LPD (port 515) but have been unsuccessful. (I have a number of printers currently set up at both my office and home that can be printed to from anywhere, so I'm fairly familiar with this.)
When sending a print job, I'm always given the message "host server is busy, will retry in 30 seconds." Any idea why this isn't working? Is it that the HP 6180 doesn't support/allow printing over the internet? Is this a queue issue or driver issue?

Hi, I’m not having any problem adding the printer and printing on my home network (LAN) . . . in fact, I have no problem adding the printer for LPD or IPP printing using “myaccount.dyndns.info:port” . . . I can ping the device over the internet, but when sending a print job, I get the message "host server is busy, will retry in 30 seconds." I’m successfully doing this very set up/printing with four other printers using IPP (port 631) or LPD (port 515) but can’t seem to get the HP to work. There doesn't appear to be any option for HP IP or HP TCP/IP in the "select printer drivers" area.
If I understand you correctly, I need to download and install a CUPS-based driver for the Photosmart C8180?

  • Slow printing with rdp Terminal server 2012

    Hi,
we've got some problems with slow printing on a wan link with RDP to server 2012, i tried several solutions like:
Disable easy print service ( it shoud be to increase performance but it doesn't work)
option: Send the print job directly to the Printer
I'm out of my options, there are no connection problems with the remote branch office and before using server 2012 they had terminal server 2003 and printing works fine over rdp.
    Thanks for your advice

Did you monitor the spooling size of the print jobs?
Depending from the drivers and the software used there may flow a serious amount of data, since both hardware and software makers no longer care about efficient programming, if it comes to bandwidth and storage occupation sizes. Slow WAN connections do not
fit in to their picture any more ...
This was still different in the Server 2003 era.

  • USB Cable problem with HP Photosmart 7960 printer

This may sound like a stupid question but I just bought a new 7960 printer to replace my old 7960 which has two out of the three ink cartridge holders broken and the usb port on the new printer won't accept a usb cable. It appears to be blocked by a cap insert over the connector prongs which will not come out. Any suggestions?

  • Extremely slow printing on a photosmart c4480 connected with a macbook

My printer is suddenly printing really slow. Once I press print  ( one simple a4 document) it pulls the paper  in, it prints a little bit it stops for a minute or 2 then prints another small bit, then stops and restarts after a while and so on. takes ages to print on a4 simple page but in the end it prints the page. Same problem when I photocopy.
Strangely enough it printed in perfect speed the test page when I held cancel and start copy simultaneously.
I 've done all the normal  troubbleshoot  stuff taking off the powercord do a semi reset  from the front panel, even removing the software and reinstalling it, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could this be a mechanical problem that needs a technicial and therefore money so more expensive than buying a new one? I only bought this printer a year and a half ago.
I would really appreciate any help.

There may be a driver setting that is causing the slow speed. I have seen settings like 'Print after RIP', which means the first page doesn't start printing until the entire print (spool) file is received.
I would also check that you are not printing at a very high resolution, like 1200dpi. This would increase the amount of processing required by the printer.
If you are printing from Acrobat, open the print dialog and click the Advanced tab. Ensure 'Print As Image' is not checked.
Could you also explain how your Mac is connecting the printer. Is it via IP, AppleTalk or some other connection?

  • Printing Problem HP PhotoSmart 7960

Love my printer but recently it is not printing everything.   I have missing text.  Example:  First line of a paragraph prints, skips next 4 or 5 lines, then prints a line, skips a line, prints a line, etc., and missing some letters throughout (mostly the letter 'l' (L)).   Problem seems to be with text; graphics are ok.   What prints looks excellent.  Any ideas what could cause this?  I've tried everything, including updating drivers, etc.  Help is appreciated!

I finally got it working (by accident)!!!
    What I've done:
    * Reinstalled HPIJS
    * Installed ESP Ghostscript
First directly connected to the printer, as soon as I got this working, I disconnected it and connected to the WinXP machine again.
I added a printer on the following way:
    * Printer Utility -> Add printer
    * OPTION + More printers
    * Select Advanced -> Windows-printer through SAMBA
    * Device URL as: smb://username:password@WORKGROUP/XPMACHINE/PRINTER
    * Select the Foomatic driver of the HP PhotoSmart 7345
    Extra information:
    Device URL:
    - username & password: your account on the XP machine
    - workgroup: workgroup where the XP machine is findable
    - xpmachine: networkname of the XP machine
    - printer: networkname of the printer
NOTE: username & password are case-sensitive and the rest should be capitals

    Hi!
I just successfully registered and connected via WiFi to my new HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-one pritner. I even printed the alignment and test page successfully.
When I tried to print documents in Word, Adobe PDF, and TextEdit, the same result occurs each time. The first page that prints has text regarding my Mac such as:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0
            %APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF8
                                 %APLProducer: (Version 10.8.2 (Build 12C60)
And then many many many blank pages start printing after that. WHAT GIVES!?!
I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX Version 10.8.2 and have tried restarting both my printer and computer several times without success. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

  • Slow Printing with HP 940 C

I haven't posted here for quite a while but was wondering if anyone has ever found a way to speed up the printing. When I was using OS 9 and I hit "print", the printer responded instantaneously and was quick. Ever since I upgraded to OS 10 it has always been slow. When I hit print now it takes about 10-20 secs to respond, then another 10-20 secs to begin printing. I have always upgraded to the latest drivers etc with no real help (but not recently). Using a G4 400mgh, OS 10.3.9. HP 940C printer. Have 920mg RAM, original HD of 10gigs.
    Thanks,

Glen, as Carl mentions, you might give different Drivers a try.

Try one of these, it could be a huge improvment. Don
