Slow program start-time: Win8 Yoga 13

Hey guys,
I've heard a few other people mention this problem but can't find a thread on it.
A few days after I got my Yoga 13, I noticed that programs- most notably metro apps, such as the calendar, weather, etc, can take as long as 15 seconds to load up whenever I first try to launch them. Also, there will be times where a metro app will be loading for 20+ seconds and then just report an error message that it crashed.
Has anyone else experienced this? Aside from Office 365, Chrome, and Firefox, I have not installed anything else on this computer.
Any suggestions?
Cheers!

I have the same Problem, but the suggested solutions did not work.
Configuration:
Yoga 13, i7, 256GB SSD, 8GB Ram
Win 8 Pro (updated to Pro)
Kaspersky
Office 2003
Company Notebook
The Desktop Applications (i. e. Outlook, Chrome, Exel, Word) are starting extremly fast. It is not measureable, maybe in one or two seconds.
The Metro apps Need at least 12 seconds, quite often up to 20 seconds. Even simple parts like camera or the clock are needing such a Long start time.
It does not matter if the Yoga is logged into the Company Network, my private Wifi or offline. Also deactivation from Kaspersky does not make any Change.
Everything else is working fast, except the start from the Metro apps.

  • Imac finder slow to start - time incorrect after using windows via bootcamp

    Everything works fine on my imac except for the following annoying thing that I would like to understand.
    After using bootcamp to use windows xp (that also works fine), after I reboot back into Macosx, "sometimes" the finder is noticeably relatively very slow to start (builds the finder window bit by bit) and 'always" the time has been set incorrectly even though I think I have set the windows date and time settings correctly. I use a product available from the macosx downloads called 'cocktail" to maintain the mac - this seems to ok. Both leopard and windows always start - windows has crashed once over the last 6mths or so - macosx never.
    The time will reset after I use the date and time pref and toggle the auto update.
    Otherwise the imac seems nice and healthy with no hangs or problems - even time machine is working fine. I am generally very impressed.

  • Slow program start

    I just got a new pc and according to specs it should be faster than my old. But when I start different programs they all take much longer time to load. I am sure it is not a virus issue, as it is a new pc and has been like that from day one.
    A few times it has happened, that the programs load very fast. Yesterday I run a bencmark test to check the speed, and the measure was fine and according the the specs.
    But very strange was, that the rest of that day after running the bencmark, all the programs loaded suddenly very fast. Next day the pc was back in the slow mood. I have tried to disable the virus program but it does not make a difference, and according to the joblist there should be plenty of free ressources. So what what can be the reason?

    Hello again wagnerh,
    It is good to hear back from you!
    Considering the process you have identified (TiWorker.exe) has been known to cause slow performance, I recommend following the steps in this resource on Windows 8, 8.1 High Disk Usage Caused by Tiworker.exe [Fix]. This should help imrpove the functionality of your operating system. Additionally, I also recommend taking a look at this document on TiWorker.

  • Slow stream start times/ or server not found with FMIS upgrade

    I recently upgraded from FMS 2 - FMIS 3.5.  Over our internal network videos stream like a dream!  However, accessing them from outside our own network means that they take about 20 seconds to load, or sometimes just get a message saying the server isn't found.
    This wasn't a problem with the FMS2 and there have been no changes to firewall settings or anything like that since the old server was up and running without problems.  I have the new server set to use exaclty the same ports, but wonder if there are some other settings which could be causing this?
    Networking isn't really my area of expertise, and I have no idea where to start looking to improve things.  Can anyone offer some suggestions as to why this would be happening?  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks

    That 20 second period makes me suspect and issue with port bindings. It's typical for the Flashplayer to take about 20 seconds for the attempt on port 1935 to time out and try port 80.
    In your fms.ini, what do you have the adaptor.hostport set to? Also, is there anything else running on the server that might occupy port 80... perhaps an HTTP server? If so, what's the environment? IIS, apache, windows, Linux, etc?
    Also, in your event logs, do you see any errors from FMS suggesting that it can't attach to a specific port? In windows, this will show up in your event viewer... not sure about Linux.
    You might try connecting to the server with a port defined in the url...
    rtmp://mydomain.com:1935/application/instance
    and
    rtmp://mydomain.com:80/application/instance
    If you find that either fail consistently, it would suggest that either a port is occupied by another application, or FMS isn't binding to all of the configured ports or IP addresses for some reason.

  • Program start-up slow under JWM

    I'm running JWM on my home computer owing to its lightness and configurability, and because I was able to configure it to look like gnome2--which I'd managed to get my wife to use--which is a less intimidating interface to certain members of my household. It's working ok, though it's not nearly as snappy as I'd expect it to be on this machine (which is a bit dated now, though with plenty of oomph for this lightweight desktop [early dual core, 2GB RAM]). Terminals and pcmanfm open fairly quickly--somewhere around 1 second or a bit less. I'd expect it to be closer to instantaneous, though.
    But when it comes to more substantial applications like firefox, chromium--even midori--or lowriter, the lag gets really noticeable. It takes something like 7 seconds for an application like midori or chromium to open after I've clicked on the respective icon. This is, of course, not a show-stopper: I can use the computer fine, despite the delays I'm seeing. But it does make me wonder whether something's misconfigured on this system.
    I recently did a long-overdue pacman -Syu on this system, so it's now using systemd. I also decided during that process that I wanted to get rid of the login manager (slim) to lighten things up a bit further. So I set the system up to log me in automatically, then boot to the GUI (using instructions found at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … h_profile).
    I guess my .xinitrc file could be relevant, so I'll post its content below:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # based on /etc/skel/.xinitrc as wiki says
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    [[ -f ~/.Xresources ]] && xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    xmobar &
    exec /usr/bin/jwm
    # exec ck-launch-session /usr/bin/jwm
    Anything look out of whack there? The final, commented line was entered from the Arch wiki entry for JWM, which appears quite out of date now, since consolekit seems to be deprecated. So I commented out that line. Can anyone spot any problems with this file?
    Also, I recently started Chromium from a terminal to see if it would output any error messages that could help me track down why I'm seeing these delays in program start-up. Following is what was output:
    Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
    [5586:5600:0201/113155:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(608)] Failed to get name owner. Got org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner: Could
    not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager': no such name

    [5586:5586:0201/113200:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(513)] Failed to call method: org.chromium.Mtpd.EnumerateStorage: object_path=
    /org/chromium/Mtpd: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.chromium.Mtpd was not provided by any .service files
    I think I understand about the fontconfig error and how to fix that. But the freedesktop.DBus stuff is not very comprehensible to me. Could that relate in some way to the unusual delays I'm seeing in program start-up?
    Input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    James

  • IMovie update 10.0.8 slows start time

    New to the community, I'm using a 13" MacBook Air, with original  Mountain Lion, that was updated to OS X Yosemite, now at OS X Yosemite with a Processor speed of 1.7 GHz intel Core i5 Memory of 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 251 GB Flash Storage with remaining memory of 209.21 GB, I have no additional hardware installed, or games installed.  The battery was replaced approximately 8 months ago with a authorized service dealer.                                  After installing update to iMovie version 10.0.08 on 04/24/2015 ( I do not use this program @ all )  my Air start time became very slow, with a white, blank screen in excess of 35 seconds prior to my log in screen. After this delayed startup there seems to be no other apparent problems.   Is there a solution to improve my start time ?  Thanks in advance !

    Your iMovie Library needs to be in the movies folder not a sub folder. Try trashing iMovie preferences, reboot and relaunch iMovie. If that doesn't help I would reinstall iMovie.

    what is cookies.sqlite and why does it slow the start up of mozilla by a minute or so. I found it and deleted it,fixed the problem, but it reappears every time I restart mozilla.

    AVG reports these sqlite cookies each time firefox starts. they usually belong to tribalfusion or some other tracker. How do I block them in the first place. I thought firefox is a safe browser. Did not have this problem until I upgraded to 3.6.

    You have 2 unreachable statements in this method.
    public static int eval(String s2, String op, String s3) {
    return lookup(s2);
    return lookup(op);
    return lookup(s3);
    } You're missing a } at the end of this method:
    public static int lookup(String s) {
        for(int k = 0; k < symbols.length; k++){
            String symbol = symbols[k];
            if(s.equals(symbol))

    In the last week my Imac (OS Lion) has started opening two to seven programs every time I log in.  Why?  How do I stop it?  I think it started after I was led to do something I can't remember with Terminal.app.

    If they have open windows/documents from your last use of the application, try going to System Preferences/General and check the 'Close windows when quitting application'.

  • Iweb 08 hangs or very slow to start at times.

    Hi all
    Iweb 2.0.2 on mac osx 10.5.1 (leopard) at times very - very slow to start or quit - shown in activity monitor and "force quit" as "not responding". It does however eventually start and quit.
    This problem appeared out of the blue and occurred at the same time as an internet problem.
    After much grasping at straws I am now convinced that it is related to the internet problem (as strange as it may seem). During the hang, if I remove the ethernet cable (or start it without the cable) there is no problem. When the internet connection is ok - no problem.
    I unchecked the "auto update" preference in iweb but no difference.
    It almost seems that on startup and quit, iweb wants to communicate with god and cannot, so it gets all upset. (that's as techo as I can get here).
    Has anyone found this problem or have an answer - mind you all ok if the network is ok. I have sent a "failure report to apple" after the force quit.
    Paul

I use the 5Ghz band on  my laptop  and the main family PC that is connected with a netgear WNDA4100 N900 adapter. All the  other PCs(5 in all) use 2.4Ghz . After disabling Wmm in QOS, i was not able to connect the 2 PCs using the 5Ghz band . They could connect using the 2.4 Ghz SSID though. Re-enabling Wmm allowed me to use 5Ghz again.
    I have the Youtube problem on both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz band. As i said when i reconnect my old netgear router, no problems at all.

    Does adding applicaions to Dock slow down start up time? I'm thinking about placing the whole creative suite on dock but I'm unsure whether it will slow down time it takes to start up my laptop, please help.

    On the dock? Not particularly. If you have things starting up with the computer then yes.
