Slow RAID after 10.4.3 update
Powermac G5 with PCI-X Fibre Channel card connected to RAID with optical cabling. Before the 10.4.3 update the connection was fast. After the update the download speed is now 5-6 times faster than upload speeds. Tried to reinstall the driver from the CD, but it will not install. Besides the useless Fibre Channel utility are there any other testing utilities for OS X? Is there any way to reinstall the driver without reverting to 10.4?
Hi,
I have the same problem. My iMac also hangs for about one minute at the same place;
"Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: IPv6 packet filtering initialized, default to accept, logging disabled
Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: UniNEnet: Ethernet address 00:11:24:86:33:46"
but with a different MAC address ofcourse.
I 've run the maintenance scripts and repaired permissions using Onyx but it did no difference.
Any other ideas?

Macbook Pro running slow/(crawling) after 10.9.4 update
I paste in information on the system from EtreCheck below.
The Macbook is really crawling very slowly.
It may be a coincidence, but happened when I restarted after the latest software update 1st july from OSX 10.9.3 to OSX 10.9.4
Regarding How does it behave/How slow:?
Now, every task that may require the use of resources not recently used (menus, lists etc.) will take exceedingly long time. For example after the desktop appears with the top menu, it will take 3-4 min before any menus can be pulled down, same with dock, 3-4 min to show up. Clicking an app, 3-4 min before launches. Then after launched, some apps may run OK, for example Logic Pro.
When working in the Finder. Opening a folder may take 3-4 min, before the the file list shows. Then selecting a file - takes a minute before it gets hi-lighted. But is then fast to drag to an open folder on the backup drive. Copying a folder to a backup drive, is also fast.
Another example: It took two hours from logging in at this Forum, until getting here to post.!! (I'll read answers from another machine)
What I have done:
I have backed up with Time Machine,, in addition to manually backing up files.
I have ran Disk Utility and it reports the hard disk is OK. I have ran fix permission, only two were fixed. No difference.
I have reset the System Management Controller (SMC). No difference.
It is not a network problem, My network is fast and smooth with other devices,
I don't want to change hard drive 'just in case'. It fast to restore files from the backup. However
I have many licences apps and contents which will take several weeks to restore. I've done that before.
Is it likely that it is the hard disk that is failing without disk utility having a clue?

You ask some (5) questions regarding the output of Etrecheck
Re #4 :"Have you tried uninstalling the fastestyoutubedownloader.com user launch agent, in case that’s causing a problem?"
Yes, now I have. Now it takes 40 min. from powerup to the login screen.!
My system report showed as I posted, before the removal:
"User Launch Agents:
[failed] com.fastestyoutubedownloader.TrialExpired.GoldFreeFirstWeek.plist"
I am ignorant about the matter. I too was surprised to find that item and the conspiracy deamon on my left shoulder had wild thoughts.
The app that generated the Launch Agent must have been FastestYouTubeDownloader.app,
It was downloaded as an app and no uninstaller. I think it was supposed to run fast the first week, and if you paid for it(upgrade license), it would remain fast or else work slowly. I tried it on one file and then threw it in the trash, as I would have no more use for it. But a nagging/promo dialog telling me the trial period was over came up 1st july, while the nagging came up I was notified (by appstore) that a new update of my system required a restart. I pressed that, my system was updated to 10.9.4 and after the update everything was slow. So the conspiracy deamon was whispering that maybe the app had made everything slow, by mistake, and not just the FastestYouTubeDownloader.
I really don't think so.
But I think the developers have to leave a mark somewhere to tell them that I have tried the software and maybe they have chosen the User Launch Agent for this? Then trying to remove it may just cause more problems, since it is not anything I should be able to do for obvious reasons.
I couldnt see what it was really doing from its content, it seems to me it should do nothing if the application was not found.
Re # 1 and #2
I have had these drivers all the time and not experienced problems with earlier versions of Mavericks.
Also, the ZOOM and the GR-55 is not connected.
Both had at least their own kernel-extension, a launch agent and a preference panel, but possibly more.
But I have now tried the Uninstaller that accompanies the GR-55 driver to remove it. It gave no improvements.
Re # 5
I have apperently two Flash Players, both have the same version number, one is outdated.?
Probably not good, but probably not my main problem(s).? I'm not using Flash often.
Re # 3
I have no idea, what the following listing
Launch Agents:
[invalid] entries
may refer to. In my HD/Library/LaunchAgents folder I only have
"com.zoom.R16DeviceManager.plist" the other entry in the report with same file name with added extension ".svn-base" I have no idea where is coming from.
I think this is not my primary problem though? even if I am curious where it comes from.
My Conclusions
Obviously with a boot time of more than 45 min doing diagosics and tests takes long time.
The Disk Utility verifies the disk as OK. Onyx verifies the disk as OK (mabe the same test?).
I think my maachine is just getting worse. There must be a serious problem, not just a fine tuning issue.
The conspiracy deamon on my other sholder tells me that Apple have decided its time for me to buy a new computer again :-) ,It would have been a good idea if not for the pain of reinstalling licensed software which will require a 2 week vacaition doing nothing but restoring, Possibly having to purchase new licences costing more than the computer. -
Slow Boot after 10.4.3 Update
Hi,
I'm experiencing a really slow boot time after updating to 10.4.3.
This only effects my Dual 2.3 G5, the iMac G5 boots as normal.
It seems to hang for at least 2 minutes on the grey screen before completing the boot and launching the login window.
I booted in verbose mode <apple> V , to see where it seems to be hanging and this is what is on screen at the time:

Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: UniNEnet: Ethernet address 00:11:24:86:33:46
Then after almost 2 minutes it moves on with the rest:

Slow running after 10.8.2 update
My MacBook Pro is running very slowly after the 10.8.2 update. Apps take longer to launch and even from Sleep it takes several seconds before I can type in my password. I'm not running anything unusual on my machine, just office based stuff.
Hi Guys,
I am quite new convert from windows to mac and relatively ignorant mac, trying to get used to it with every use.
I bought Macbook Pro running 10.8.2 2.5GHz with 4GB about half a year ago. This is my first Mac and I got impression that it is much faster and better than windows. However, it turned out that it is not so fast after all. It is relatively very slow when starting up, opening applications and waking up...similar to what others said. Not only that, it seems that it is eating memory no matter how much you provide.
I installed Adobe Creative Suite recently and with 4GB I was loosing all memory in a short time. Basically, within a minute or so, I would be running out of the RAM.
Few days ago, I upgrated memory to 16GB and guess what?! Running Photoshop and Indesign together with usual suspects (Firefox, Mail and Finder) would easily eat up over 8GB of RAM. Is that normal?!
Not only that, I realized that immediately after the start up of the system it eats up between 2.5 to 4GB. Now, what should I do?! Your advice and inputs are highly appreciated...thanks -
Slow iMac after 10.8.3 update
I posted a few dfays ago an as yet have no responeses from that post so here goes again.
When I restart to Windows (7) the startup chime chimes almost immediately but then a blank canvas screen comes on and the computer just sits there seemingly doing nothing for nearly a minute, then Windows starts and things look normal. When I go back to Mac OS the chime chimes again almost immediately but I get a black, blank screen for about 40 seconds before the Apple logo comes up and the wheel start spinning and the Mac starts up. Everything seems to be normal once it os going with the exception that once and a while I have to restart the computer again in ML to get the Dock to magnify. This all started after I updated to ML 10.8.3. Windows is on a partition made by Bootcamp Assistant to the tune of 40 GB. That leaves me with 250+ GB for ML. The iMac is an early 2009 320/4GB Ram and there are not many third party apps installed except the ones I have to install for Windows and some sites that require Adobe and Java to run, which are both up to date according to there sites. My question is, why does the computer do this suddenly after an upgrade to ML when it never did this before? Also then I restarted the computer in Recovery and verified and repaired the OS and then restarted the Mail app showed I was offline and I had to restart again to rectify the problem. Just seems like the upgrade did more harm than good!
I am getting very close to going back to SL, the last good OS Apple put out, where I had very few problems with any of this stuff. I really like some of the new stuff Lion and ML had to offer but the problems are getting to the point where it is not worth the effort. Suggestions would be appreciated.
CTry booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Slow Boot after 10.6.8 Update
Since I upgraded Mac Book Pro (2009) to 10.6.8 today, system is slow to boot and remains on blue screen for 30+ seconds, then takes another 15 seconds to fully boot. Any suggestions?
This may not help the OP, but perhaps it will help others.
In summary, don't panic; have patience. If in doubt, wait a little longer than normal when confronted with the blue screen.
I installed the 10.6.8 update via Software Update, and after restarting as usual by clicking "restart", my MBP spent a very long time at the blue screen. Only a blue screen was visible with the circulating fan vent icon. It stayed on this screen very long, perhaps 10 minutes or more , and I thought it had hung. I persevered, and eventually the MBP rebooted on its own and everything was normal. I wasn't required to do anything for the MBP to go through this process. -
Boot time slowed down after 10.7.3 update...
i have been using my MBP for a month and now after the update to 10.7.3 from 10.7.2...it has slowed down..
it used to take 20 sec. to boot and now it takes about 35-45 sec. to boot up..
is there any way i can bring it back to fast boot...Hi ..
Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try disabling the Lion "resume" feature.
Open System Preferences > General
Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And check System Prerferences > Security & Privacy / Login Items. Delete any apps you may have listed thee to launch when you startup, then restart your Mac. -
Why have my two machines slowed down after installation of latest update?
Both of our MacBooks slowed down and/or stopped in the middle of loading usual websites immediately after installing new version of Firefox. Since it's both computers, it must be Firefox gumming up the works. Help.
Since you installed system updates and software updates, run "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility, if you have not done so recently (after the installations).
In terms of the System Preferences Network pane, select Show *Network Port Configurations*. On the list of network services, make sure +Built-in Ethernet+ is at the top of the list. You can also uncheck services you are not using for networking, just in case there is a bug causing conflict. -
N9 slow/buggy after PR 1.2 update
This morning I updated my handset to the PR 1.2 update because I wanted the video calling and folders features but after the update, the N9 is now super slow and buggy. It bogs down to a screeching halt just trying to open up an app and I lost all my text messages. I wish I did not update the N9 since now it is nearly as good as a paper weight. I tried resetting the phone and tried to restore it to a prior version to the PR 1.2 but to no avail. Nokia, can someone please help me?
Hi, What I notice after upgrading two of my N9,
is, the after the first boot up the system is very slow. If not mistaken it's still running set up in background. Once that is truly done, you'll notice slight improvement. After which , I left the phone for about half hour, as I work on my second N9, I re booted the first one, the everything is smooth. -
System slows down after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001
my macbook's internet related performance has been significantly slowed down recently. i have windows xp installed on my mac from where i can compare the performance of ie and safari or ie and firefox on mac. the result is ie on windows xp is much faster. the wireless connection is even more reliable and has more signal strenth under windows. these "slow" situations of mac only happens recently, and the only thing that i can think of to mark the change is the installation of AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001. please advise what i can do to bring back the good performance of mac. (i.e.:if i type in www.google.ca in the address bar of safari, the blue bar will just be stuck around "http://" for a long time before the simple page gets loaded while the status bar of safari is showing contacting google.ca)
Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

Slow down after 10.4.4 update
i had a major slowdown with my powerbook g4 after using update site to install 10.4.4. but i just noticed that my computer is not recognizing all of my ram. it says one slot is empty which i know is not correct. I am going to take the ram out and reinstall it to see what happens.

Intel iMac 17"s slow - even after SU and firmware update
Just got 3 Intel iMacs (w/512MB RAM) to upgrade 3 users at my company, and have found basic startup (and later, opening apps) to be cripplingly slow. I have already:
Run Software Update;
Run the EFI Firmware update;
Repaired permissions;
Run Repair Disk vis "fsck -fy" from the console...
The only things I have not messed with are the USB peripherals.
Any ideas? If you have the 17" iMacs with the 1.83 GHz chip you don't really even have 512MB of RAM. That model shares RAM with the video chip, which uses a minimum of 80 MB. Leaving only 432 MB, at most, for the Mac OS and any software you are running.
If you are seeing the spinning beachball of death you don't have enough physical RAM and the Mac is using virtual memory and constantly accessing the hard drive. You won't be happy until you have a minimum of 1 GB.
Get more RAM. -
Slow system after 10.6.8 update
Updated to 10.6.8. Running on a Win Server 2008 network. Ran fine before. Now dogged slow. I see the awacsd process running at 100+% of CPU. Apple tech no help. Any ideas?
Found a solution on another post that works. Go to:
<computer>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.alf.plist
Remove the preference file and reboot. This noticeably improves speed and responsiveness. -
Slow wifi after 10.6.8 update using wnr2000
First time post for a first time Mac owner. I've noticed a significant drop in wifi speed to the point where youtube is not smooth. Using MBPro 7,1 with xfinity blast. Down/Up speeds are 40/6Mbs on ethernet but 3/4Mbs on wifi. As far as I can recall, the only changes ive made are updates to Mac OS X10.6.8 (is this Snow Leopard?) and Parallels for running Windows. Please Help
Note, router is 2.4MHz not dual band, firmware updated/reset to 144 mbps a/b/g/n, channel changed from "auto" to "6" to diverge from neighboring channels, and ipad/iphone speedtest at 10Mbs/5Mbs, more than double MBpro.

System slow down after lion update 8/18/11
Has anyone else had a problem with their system slowing down after downloading the system update for Lion on 8/18? My system is not nearly as responsive and is only about two weeks old and have not installed any software other than Microsoft Office 2011 when I bought the machine. Any ideas?
Ok my system is booting and shutting down faster now.. This method worked for me:
First, I repaired the permissions:
1) Open up Disk Utility
2) Select your hard drive
3) Now select Repair Disk Permissions.
Then, I deleted the caches folder:
1) From the Finder's Go menu, select Go To Folder, and go to this folder: /Library
2) Delete everything inside the Caches folder (This might require the Admin Username & Password)
Finally, go to System Preferences and click on Startup Disc then click on your boot drive (In my case I've selected my HD labeled "Macintosh HD Mac OS X, 10.7.1". Now do a restart by clicking on the Restart button. If you don't have a Startup drive selected your mac will waste time at boot searching for a suitable boot drive !
I Hope this works for you as well.
Cheers!
