Slow rendering on rMBP when display is off

I'm batch rendering Premiere Pro CC timelines to MPEG 2.
These are 3 minute movies that take about 30 minutes when I render them direct from Premiere Pro CC.
When I queue them in AME the rendering goes slower.
Renderings then take up to 40-50 minutes. So in AME it's slower. But these times are do-able.
The rMB from late 2013 is blowing like hell (that's a good thing becuae then rendering goes fast). But when my display turns off after 15 minutes the rendering slows down. Renderings then take up to almost 2 hours per movie. The blowing of the fan stops when the display is off. But apparently the rendering speed as well.
In the preferences panel from the Mac "put hard disks to sleep when possible" is unchecked.
Of course I can have my screen always turned on. But another rMBP from mid 2012 has burn-in issues because of that.
So I'd rather have AME working when the display is off.
Could this also be an Open CL thing?
**UPDATE**
Rendering also slows down when minimizing the AME window!! It has to be active otherwise my rendering slows significantly down.
I hope there is a solution for this

Go to System Preferences>Energy Saver. Set the slider labeled "Computer Sleep" to "Never". When the Computer is sleeping, all currently running processes are put on pause. Your "Display Sleep" and "Computer Sleep" were probably both set to 15 minutes, so that it appeared as if the display going to sleep was the reason the blowing fan stopped.

• When display switches off I can't get it back without forced restart

When display switches off due to low battery power & I can't get it back even when I plug in to the mains and have to force the PC to restart.
Is there a pref somewhere to disable this?

Hello
When the display goes off exactly? How much capacity has battery at this time? 5%? More?
Try to set this to higher level.
When you work with your notebook and battery level comes to low battery level and the alarm alert will be shown in task bar but you will be able to continue your work several minutes or to connect AC power supply.
I am afraid your notebook reaches critical battery level and then is maybe too late for any action.
Set Low battery level to 10% and when the notification is shown connect AC adapter immediately.
I presume the display must not be off at all.

• How to "Show notifications when display is off"

Hi,
In Mavericks Beta the notifications from Mail, Messages, Facebook etc. were displayed even when the screen was turned off. It lit up the screen for a while showed the notification for few seconds and then the screen was turned off again. I really liked that feature cause I could see whats happening on my iMac even if I wasn't using it.
In this Apple document this feature is still described http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14360?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Show notifications when display is off or locked
Get alerts when your display is off or your Mac is locked.
But the option to enable it is no longer in the Notifications settings, instead there is "Show notifications on lock screen".
So please let me ask, is there some possibility to show notifications on turned off display? Maybe by editing some preference file or something like that?
Thank you very much for answers.
Best Regards
Milan

I too would like to know a way around this problem. In the prior version of iCal, you could enable alarms only when iCal was running. I routinely sync three computers, sometimes hours to days apart. So unless I remember to turn alarms off prior to shutting down the machines, the alarms are not properly updated upon syncing when an idle machine is turned back on.
Hope this makes sense. Either way, it would have been better if Apple had not gotten rid of this feature in the new iCal.

• When display turns off system improperly ejects Western Digital external hard drive. Yosemite 10.10.2

Why does computer improperly eject my Western Digital (My Book for Mac) external hard drive when display turns off. And how do I stop this from happening.
Yosemite 10.10.2
27 inch iMac
3.2 GHz processor
intel core i5

Your External Western Digital usually has Utilities from the company that can be downloaded from their site@http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=133&sid=157&lang=en
run their scan for errors and post back. Also do you have Time Machine always running at time of incident?

• Connection to HDMI Mini when display is off is slow with ARD 3.x

Anybody notice, well I don't know how you couldn't, that you connect to an HDMI Mini with the display off that the CPU is at 100% and you can't do anything until you turn on the display? It is easy to reproduce. I have my Mini hooked to a Yamaha A2000 stereo and when it is off any connection is so slow it is impossible to do anything until the stereo is turned on. Turn it off and it will go back to 100% cpu usage. I've seen so many posts about the 100% cpu usage I'm wondering if this is the root cause of issues.
Dan

I found out if I unplug the HDMI cable then I can remotely connect. I'm wondering if the stereo I have the mini hooked up to is causing the issue or the mini is the issue. I'll see what setup options I have on the stereo.

• Back light remains on when display turns off when on battery

Hi,
Sorry for the long subject line, but it basically sums up the issue.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit on a T61 with nVidia Quadro NVS 140M discrete graphics. I installed the latest Windows 7 drivers from Lenovo, including the driver for the video card. This was a completely fresh install of Windows 7.
Everything seems to be running great, with the exception of the LCD back light when I'm on battery. I have the power settings set to "turn off display" after five minutes. When I idle for five minutes the display indeed goes "black", but I can still see it "lit".
With the back light still active I'm having to close my lid to ensure my battery lasts a decent amount of time.
Has anyone else experienced this on Windows 7 and better yet know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Could be any number of things. Something failed on the monitor (power supply perphas). Maybe the cable fatigued and a wire broke inside. Maybe your video card has failed.
In other words, too many variables. You need to eliminate them as best yo can. Try the monitor on a different computer. Try a different cable and/or check cable connections. Try another monitor on your computer.
Try a smc reset but it probably won't change anything.

• WiFi shuts down when display goes to sleep

Often when my display goes to sleep, my wifi disconnects. As soon as move the mouse or press a button, the screen goes on, the wifi reconnects. This is specially annoying when I'm using the Boxee streaming to my Boxee box, suddenly the stream stops as the screen has shut off, and the wifi with it.
Any idea how to fix this?

Good point! I think this is a new setting or so as my old MBA never did this.
In Energy Saver settings I have now clicked in "Prevent computer from sleeping when display is off"
This should solve it.
Funny there's no setting for actually sleeping the computer?

• HT1477 When i disconnect my iPod 2nd Gen from my laptop, its display turns off and working freezes. Please help me.

When i disconnect my iPod 2nd Gen from my laptop, its display goes off and working freezes. Please help me.

The computer freezes? There may be something wrong with the USB port. If the laptop has more than one port, does this happen on any port? If you are disconnecting the shuffle cable from the computer, does it make any difference if you disconnect the shuffle at the other end of the cable first, then disconnect the cable from computer? Or if you currently disconnect the shuffle from cable first, try it the other way.
You may be able to work around this problem, if you get a self-powered USB hub. Something like this one
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/USB2HB7PRO/
There are many choices, but be sure to get one that has its own power supply. You can leave the shuffle cable connected to the hub, and connect the shuffle to the hub, instead of directly to the computer. This may provide a "buffer" for whatever is causing your laptop to shut off when the shuffle is disconnected. Since the hub has its own power supply, it will not rely on the computer for power to re-charge the battery.

• Why does my iMac display go off when I am starting up or waking up my machine from sleep..

Why does my iMac display go off when I am starting up or waking up my machine from sleep..?
When my iMac goes to sleep I then later try to click the magic track pad or keyboard and it will usually then show the initial password entry login screen and then go off. The machine is still on but the display is black and will sometimes flash up the screen again if I press the magic track pad or keyboard but will then black out again..

Well, there are many different reasons why it does this. It might shut off due to power voltage problems, system overheats, or there is a System Problem. The reason it might be hard to boot up is because your power button might not work properly or your system hard drive is damaged.

• Display goes off and comes back only when Satellite A210 is restarted

Hi,
Satellite A210 displays goes off now and then and comes back only when the machine is restarted.
Usual runtime runtime 30 or 45 mins
Please advice
# Is this a hardware problem or software?
# Does some one else faced same problem do advice?
Machine is year and a half old runs windows vista basic that comes with it.
I have reinstalled the display adapter drivers also the problem remains same

Hello
Have you tested an external monitor on the notebook?
If the external monitor works fine it seems to be an internal display issue and must be replaced.
Are you running the factory settings on your notebook or have you installed your own Windows version? Before you go to an authorized service provider you should restore the factory settings to determine if its a hardware or software problem. With the factory settings all should work properly and if not in my opinion its a hardware problem.
Check this!!!

So randomly my ipod crashed and when i turned the ipod on again it was all white and blurred. Part of the screen is up to speed but the other half is slow. Already tried turning it completely off and restoring it on the computer

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

• When the combobox is rendered all the values displayed look like [object Object].

I wasn't sure where to post this so please forgive me.
I am trying to populate a combobox with a series of values
returned from a Coldfusion method that retrives a resault froma
database. Basically all the data from a table of staff.
<cffunction name="getUsers" access="remote"
returntype="array">
<cfquery name="q" datasource="#datasource#">
SELECT *
FROM STAFF_CHARTS_STAFF_TEMP
</cfquery>
<cfset aRecordset= querytoarray(q)>
<cfset flash.result=aRecordset>
<cfreturn flash.result>
</cffunction>
<cffunction name="querytoarray" returntype="array"
output="No">
<cfargument name="q" required="Yes" type="query">
<cfset var aTmp = arraynew(1)>
<cfif q.recordcount>
<cfloop query="q">
<cfset stTmp = structNew()>
<cfloop list="#lcase(q.columnlist)#" index="col">
<cfset stTmp[col] = q[col][currentRow]>
</cfloop>
<cfset arrayAppend(aTmp,stTmp)>
</cfloop>
<cfelse>
<cfset stTmp = structNew()>
<cfloop list="#lcase(q.columnlist)#" index="col">
<cfset stTmp[col] = "">
</cfloop>
<cfset arrayAppend(aTmp,stTmp)>
</cfif>
<cfreturn aTmp>
</cffunction>
The result from a call of CF method getUsers is set as the
data provider to ComboBox with id = "cb"
<mx:RemoteObject
id="myService"
destination="ColdFusion"
source="staff_ratings.staff_Ratings-debug.staff"
showBusyCursor="true">
<mx:method name="getUsers" result="handleResult(event)"
fault="Alert.show(event.fault.message)"/>
</mx:RemoteObject>
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.controls.Alert;
[Bindable]
public var sResult:Array;
public function handleResult(event:ResultEvent):void{
sResult=event.result as Array;
cb.dataProvider=sResult;
]]>
</mx:Script>
However when the combobox is rendered all the values
displayed look like [object Object].
I think the problem is that the result is a array of arrays
so I need to find away to ectract a particular colun of data into
the combobox
How do I fix this?

This is what I did for a single field.
If you were wanting the to have muliple fields in the
dropdown, I would concatenate them in the query.
something like
select fname + ' ' + lname + ' ' + anotherfield as tech from
dbo.table
<cffunction name="getTech" output="no" access="remote"
returntype="query">
<cfset var qTech="">
<cfquery name="qTech" datasource="datasource">
select tech
from dbo.table
group by tech
order by tech
</cfquery>
<cfreturn qTech>
</cffunction>
<mx:RemoteObject
id="dataManager"
showBusyCursor="true"
destination="ColdFusion"
source="cust.components.cfgenerated.Records">
<mx:method name="getMasterQuery"
result="getMasterQuery_result(event)" fault="server_fault(event)"
/>
<mx:method name="deleteItem"
result="deleteItem_result(event)" fault="server_fault(event)" />
</mx:RemoteObject>
<mx:ComboBox id="TECH"
dataProvider="{dataManager.getTech.lastResult}" labelField="tech"
/>
