Slow response for USB Webcam

Hello - I have a USB 2.0 Webcam attached to my Intel Mac Pro. It's a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000.
When I try to "record new movie", and the recording window comes up, I find that the video, while very crisp and clear, has about a 2 second delay and an apparently slow framerate as all motion is very smeared. This comes thru in both the recording window and in the recording itself.
If I hook my firewire camcorder up and do the same thing, I get nice smooth video with no delays.
Is there some setting I need to use to have the webcam work properly? Is this a USB vs Firewire thing? If so, does anyone make a firewire webcam?
Thanks - Craig

Im not familiar with the Logitech cameras, but have had good results with Labtec pro USB cams.
Does the Logitech cam come with mac os drivers or are you using some third-party driver?
I would recommend you to try the Macam drivers http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
And then there is The Unibrain Fire-I firewire cam, but I have no experience with them yet....

  • Mavericks slow response for text fields

Has anyone noticed that any text field is really really slow in response after upgrading to Mavericks?  I have a mid 2011 mac mini with 8 GB ram, 2.5 TB external disk drives.
It is really driving me crazy having to wait to enter text in.  Most noticeble in Safari and iWorks.
    thanks

    Hello Paul,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with text fields on your Mac after upgrading to Mavericks.  I recommend reviewing the steps in the following article for the issue you described (the title refers to the Mac in general, but the steps apply to the issue you described as wel):

  • Using MediaLocator on Mac for USB WebCam

Is it possible to use MediaLocator to open a webcam on a Mac? Something similar to "vfw://0"? If not, what is the best way to initialize a MediaPlayer with a webcam on a Mac? I.e., what is the mac equivalent of:
    "MediaPlayer p = new MediaPlayer();
    p.setPlayer(Manager.createRealizedPlayer(new MediaLocator("vfw://0")));"

Why not just write a simple JMF program to iterate through all the devices that JMF detects ?
    regards,
    Owen
    Vector list = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList ( null );
    for ( int i=0; i><list.size(); i++ )

         name = devInfo.getName();
         System.out.println ("DeviceManager List : " + name );

  • Slow response for HR tcodes PA30/PA20 - impact of Context Solution?

We just implemented the Context Solution for Structural Authorization in our production environment. Through out our testing phase we were aware of somewhat slower performance with the context solution that without it.
However in production we came across a user who needs 30-45 minutes just to get to the PA30 initial screen. As far as I have seen CSSA only impacts data retrieval times and not simply opening the transaction. So we are surprised at this behaviour. She can however run HR reports without any such issues.
Its not a problem with the GUI version for the user as she gets the same error from a different PC as well. The only thing that we could find about this user is that she had access to a huge amount of HR data/objects. Does the context solution have a hard limit on the number of HR objects that a person can have access to?
    I would appreciate any ideas!!!............Regards.

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for not updating this thread for so long. I was aware of and using the RHBAUS00 and RHBAUS02 reports while posting. Somehow the performance was still very slow while using those reports.
The issue turned out to be related to custom coding for HRBAS00_GET_PROFL where we were not getting rid of duplicate profile values. Now, after a coding change the situation has improved a lot.
I am closing the thread. Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment!

  • Slow Response for Export after returned results 2-3 min delay

    Hi,
Wondering if my problem is unique or if there is a solution.
When I run a long query - takes 5-6 minutes to return about 30,000 reults and I select Export, CSV, it takes 2-4 minutes before I can choose the file to export to.
It seems very slow and is even slow if I make sure that all of the results are returned.
    \Any ideas?

I've seen this problem in 1.5.4 with both patch sets installed and when exporting to an XLS. Also, before I applied the patches the dialog window would sometimes never appear after right-clicking the results data grid and choosing "Export->xls". However, I've never experienced this behavior when exporting the exact same results from the exact same query and database in a 1.5.1 worksheet. I've got a suspicion that the problem may not be with SQL Developer itself, but with either the JDK or IDE; however I haven't done any testing in this regard.
Here' my version info from 1.5.1:
CVS Version Internal to Oracle SQL Developer (client-only)
    Java(TM) Platform 1.5.0_06
    Oracle IDE 1.5.1.54.40
    Versioning Support 1.5.1.54.40
And the same (plus patch set info) for 1.5.4:
CVS Version Internal to Oracle SQL Developer (client-only)
    Java(TM) Platform 1.5.0_17
    Oracle IDE 1.5.4.59.40
    Versioning Support 1.5.4.59.40

  • Sound issues; slow response; usb ports unreliable and sd reader not working

The PC is a HP TouchSmart envy about 18 months old. Soon after purchasing I upgraded to Win 8.1.
About three or four months -ago probably after a Win update was installed- I began to have Sound issues (including not able to conect my external powered speakers any more- they used to work brilliantly and initially no sound at all but I went into settings and changed something and every now and again I have to do that again to get the PC speakers to work) ; slow response; usb ports unreliable, sd reader not working- as well as issues with the internet - the modem actually. It is easier to get on to a tablet and use the internet as my PC can be really slow. As well I have uninstalled Chrome and am using Explorer as this seems a little better but I miss Chrome.
I was advised by tech at Hervey Norman that I had to do a complete system restore but in order to do that I would need the recovery discs from HP? Is that correct? How do I do this?
PS I did not make recovery discs when I first purchased the machine. (Very sad!!!)
    Help!!!
    Alfriston

    Hi again Alfriston,
    Thank you for the clarification!
To return your computer's audio back to functional order, I recommend removing the audio driver from the operating system previous to upgrading to Windows 8.1, and installing the driver provided in this link.
If re-installing the driver does not resolve the issue, I suggest following the steps in this document on No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8).
In regards to the USB ports, I recommend following this resource on Troubleshooting USB Connections (Windows 8), which should help consistently connect your USB devices to your computer.
To prevent your computer from lagging or responding in a slow manner, please follow the step in this document on Resolving Slow System Performance (Windows 8) to help improve the speed and efficiency of the operating system.
To further diagnose the issue with your desktop's SD card reader, I recommend following this resource on Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 8).
If your desktop still experiences issues with the audio, USB connections, speed and performance, as well as the SD card reader, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8). This should return your system back to factory defaults.
If the issue persists, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • USB webcam has slow fps

My firewire socket has failed and I can't afford a new logic board, so I've bought myself a new usb webcam to take the place of my trusty isight. I've got a Logitech quickcam pro 9000. My problem is that I can't get anwhere near the 30 fps it should be providing; usually I don't get more than 5-6 fps. The odd thing is that occasionally I get 15 fps, but i can't replicate it. This is in QT pro and also in ichat using conference recorder to make movies with. Macam doesn't work with the 9000 pro. Do I need to upgrade to Leopard? I tried upgrading to 10.4.9, but software updater won't let me.

I'm using the same camera on my MacPro, and found that with the current built-in support for USB video class this will not get better.
There are several things to consider:
    1) In low light (and with the "generic" USB video class drivers on MacOS X), the camera will "slow down" its fps rate to collect more light and reduce noise.
    2) In Quicktime Pro, recording in "camera native" will invariably result in a 1600x1200 JPEG-compressed movie at 5 fps.
    3) In Quicktime Pro, the best frame rate i got out of it was approx. 10-12 fps, but the recorded movie itself has 30 fps, i.e. it's padded by repeating one frame 2-3 times. Granted, this compresses rather well since nothing's changing between those duplicated frames, but it feels like cheating.
    4) Using Apple's own USB Prober tool (comes with the developer tools), one can "see" all the data channels the camera offers to the computer (in the ballpark of 20 data streams the computer could request, ranging from 320x240 to 960x720, each with several frame rates to pick from, and in MotionJPEG or uncompressed). There's just no way (yet?) to pick one.
I'd suggest using Apple's feedback web form (i did yesterday, filed it in "Quicktime -> Feature requests). While i'm happy the camera works "out of the box", i'd be even more happy if it did record smooth 30fps video as well. Not that it matters much for videophoning, since that's compressed to death anyway, but to see it's all already there, with just a "pick input format" selector missing...

  • Very slow response, stopping for seconds in the middle of typing an email

I'm having very slow response time with Firefox, so much so that I've switched to IE (gasp!). It'll stop suddenly for several seconds in the middle of typing an email and I have to wait to start typing again. Websites are timing out or just taking a very long time to respond after clicking on something. Yahoo in particular is extremely slow.

For me, I think the "Skype Click to Call 5.11.0.9874" addon was causing the slow response. Once I disabled this addon Firefox was responding normally.

  • Is there a way to disable the Facetime camera and use an external USB webcam for browser based webchat?

Is it possible to disable the Facetime camera and use an external webcam as a default? So that when you access browser based applications that require a webcam it doesnt default to the Facetime camera but uses the USB webcam instead?
    Cheers.

    (1) You don't need to "disable" anything to select among cameras connected to your Mac.
For all cameras you access via browser based applications (cameras connect via Flash browser plugins), control-click on an open video window in your browser page and adjust the camera settings to select between a connected USB and Firewire video camera.  Specific instructions are here:
       http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help04.html
If you don't see a choices of cameras in the Flash settings, your Mac is only recognizing one camera.  Verify that your external cam is Mac-compatible and properly connected.
Your choice is stored in preferences so the same camera will activate on the next browser page until you change it.
    (2) BTW, a current (Feb 2013) discussion of how to select among connected Mac cameras for a few more apps is available here:  http://discussions.apple.com/message/21158673#21158673

  • What support is there for a USB Webcam in Labview, and on what platforms?

I need to acquire a real-time image from a USB webcam for a remote control program I am building. It has to be USB as it needs to work on many computers without worrying about video data acquiring PCI cards and the like. I would like it to run on Windows 2000 ideally. Any ideas?

Check the following answer by Jim Kring. Also check previous posting from him, as he has been succesful using Video For Windows in LabVIEW.

  • Slow response using internet, just hangs

Not the best at IT and just clicked update when it came up as available without realising what I was doing!  Turns out it was an upgrade to os x 10.9.4.  Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait.  Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well.  Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this.  I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version.  I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups.  I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!!  Results below

  • T400s and T500 experiencing slow response time accessing certain websites from within our network

Hello there.... we have some Lenovo T400s running Windows 7 and T500 running WinXP Pro that are experiencing slow response time when trying to access certain website from within our company network (particularly this global crossing Web meeting, google maps): https://core1.callinfo.com/interface/guest.jsp?host=globalcrossing ... it takes 10-15 minutes before it loads the meeting login screen and same response time for google maps to respond as well... the thing is, other Lenovo T400s, T61, and other HP desktop machines that are connected to the same network in our company does not experience this slow response time... HOWEVER, when these problematic T400s / T500 laptops are connected to external network (e.g. home DSL, hotel DSL/Cable modem) the problem goes away.   Our NETWORK ran tests to monitor traffic to the websites from our company's network but seem to connect just fine... just wondering if anybody out there experienced the same problem and know of a solution.  By the way, the two newer T400s that are experiencing the slow response time have the following BIOS version 1.11 (6HET26WW) and BIOS version 1.09 (6HET24WW).  Then a T400s that is also connected to the same network but not experiencing the problem has a BIOS version of 1.02 (6HET17WW - running WinXP Pro).   NOTE: We also connected a Linksys USB wireless adapter to connect to our wireless network in the company but same problem - and problem occurs even when connected via network cable.  Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Network World posted an article about a free response time monitoring tool that would be worth checking out

  • Slow response to keyboard input. Mountain Lion.

My iMac has a slow response to keyboard input. Please advise.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for response problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Slow Responses Initially

My wife and I both have our individual accounts on 1 iMac.
When I switch to my account after my wife has logged into hers, my wallpaper picture initially covers only about two thirds of the screen. After about a minute, it expands to cover the full screen. Also, when I switch to my account, the internet is connected but is very slow for about 2 minutes. after this time it is fine.
Anyone got any ideas on how to speed up these 2, initially slow responses?
I am running Mavericks OSX 10.9.5.
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Andy

Here it is......Any good clues there???

  • Lenovo usb webcam problem

I have a Lenovo usb webcam.  I believe all was fine out of the box until I started also using Logitech usb headset.  Now not working with or without headset.  No idea why headset would matter, but that's the only relevant event I can think of.
