Slow Responses Initially
My wife and I both have our individual accounts on 1 iMac.
When I switch to my account after my wife has logged into hers, my wallpaper picture initially covers only about two thirds of the screen. After about a minute, it expands to cover the full screen. Also, when I switch to my account, the internet is connected but is very slow for about 2 minutes. after this time it is fine.
Anyone got any ideas on how to speed up these 2, initially slow responses?
I am running Mavericks OSX 10.9.5.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Andy
Here it is......Any good clues there???

Using collections and experiencing slow response
I am experiencing slow response when using htmldb_collection. I was hoping someone might point me in another direction or point to where the delay may be occurring.
First a synopsis of what I am using these collections for. The main collections are used in order to enable the users to work with multiple rows of data (each agreement may have multiple inbound and outbound tiered rates). These collections, OBTCOLLECTION and IBTCOLLECTION, seem to be fine. The problem arises from the next set of collections.
OBTCOLLECTION and IBTCOLLECTION each contain a field for city, product, dial code group and period. Each of these fields contains a semi-colon delimited string. When the user chooses to view either the outbound tiers (OBTCOLLECTION) or the inbound tiers (IBTCOLLECTION), I generate four collections based on these four fields, parsing the delimited strings, for each tier (record in the OBT or IBT collection). Those collections are used as the bases for multiple select shuttles when the user edits an individual tier.
Here is the collection code for what I am doing.
When the user chooses an agreement to work with, by clicking on an edit link, they are sent to page 17 (as you see referenced in the code). That page has the on-demand process below triggered on load, after footer.
-- This process Loads the collections used
-- for the Inbound and Outbound tier details
-- OBTCOLLECTION
-- IBTCOLLECTION
-- It is an on-demand process called on load (after footer) of page 17 --
-- OUTBOUND TIER COLLECTION --
if htmldb_collection.collection_exists( 'OBTCOLLECTION') = TRUE then
htmldb_collection.delete_collection(p_collection_name => 'OBTCOLLECTION' );
end if;
htmldb_collection.create_collection_from_query(
p_collection_name => 'OBTCOLLECTION',
p_query => 'select ID, AGREEMENT_ID, FIXED_MOBILE_ALL,
OF_TYPE,TIER, START_MIN, END_MIN,
REVERT_TO, RATE,CURRENCY,
PENALTY_RATE, PENALTY_CURR,
PRODUCT,CITY, DIAL_CODE_GROUP, PERIOD,
to_char(START_DATE,MM/DD/YYYY),
to_char(END_DATE,MM/DD/YYYY),
MONTHLY,EXCLUDED,
O original_flag
from outbound_tiers
where agreement_id = ||:P17_ID ||
order by FIXED_MOBILE_ALL, ID',
p_generate_md5 => 'YES');
-- INBOUND TIER COLLECTION --
if htmldb_collection.collection_exists( 'IBTCOLLECTION') = TRUE then
htmldb_collection.delete_collection(p_collection_name => 'IBTCOLLECTION' );
end if;
htmldb_collection.create_collection_from_query(
p_collection_name => 'IBTCOLLECTION',
p_query => 'select ID, AGREEMENT_ID, FIXED_MOBILE_ALL,
OF_TYPE,TIER, START_MIN, END_MIN,
REVERT_TO, RATE,CURRENCY,
PENALTY_RATE, PENALTY_CURR,
PRODUCT,CITY, DIAL_CODE_GROUP, PERIOD,
to_char(START_DATE,MM/DD/YYYY),
to_char(END_DATE,MM/DD/YYYY),
MONTHLY,EXCLUDED,
O original_flag
from inbound_tiers
where agreement_id = ||:P17_ID ||
order by FIXED_MOBILE_ALL, ID',
p_generate_md5 => 'YES');
commit;The tables each of these collections is created from are each about 2000 rows.
This part is working well enough.
Next, when the user chooses to view the tier information (either inbound or Outbound) they navigate to either of two pages that have the on-demand process below triggered on load, after header.
-- This process Loads all of the collections used
-- for the multiple select shuttles --
-- DCGCOLLECTION
-- CITYCOLLECTION
-- PRODCOLLECTION
-- PRDCOLLECTION

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.Try to instrument/profile your code by putting timing statements after each operation. This way you can tell which parts are taking the most time and address them.

Hi Guys,
I am running Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production on Solaris 10.
I upgraded my database from 9i (9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production) to 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production)--now I am experiencing slow response from the queries.
Below please find my Top 5 Wait Events:
Top 5 Timed Foreground Events
Event Waits Time(s) Avg wait (ms) % DB time Wait Class
db file sequential read 3,573,342 7,796 2 71.69 User I/O

It looks like I have a serious I/O issues here--but how do I see if this is indeed the case?
Please Help!!!!!!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Guys for the replies,
I strongly feel that this link--http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/category/oracle/statspack/ posted on this thread by Girish, really addresses my problems.
I used memory target during the upgrade.
Below are the reports from AWR:
This statement inetersted me most:
The DBA had decided to trust Oracle to do the right thing after the upgrade, so he had set the memory_target
and eliminated all the other memory parameters, including the db_keep_cache_size.I did exactly that on during my upgrade.
Here is the report from my database:

CTRONLIV AXS_API3 CHCK_RECON_TRANDATE_IDX INDEX 263,826 1.97
See how much better your report looks when I put in tags for you?
Looking at the report it shows that I have done 9.2M read requests from table PAY_HISTORY and 1.2 M read requests from table APPL_HIST_HDRS,resulting in 9.2 M blocks reads from one table and 1.2M blocks read from the other, now I checked the sizes of the two tables:--PAY_HISTORY-->30GB and APPL_HIST_HDRS-->34GB.
I used dbms_metadata.get_ddl(),as suggested on the link,to see the DDL of the two tables...the storage parameter are as follows :
FOR table PAY_HISTORY:
) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 NOCOMPRESS LOGGING
STORAGE(INITIAL 1048576 NEXT 20971520 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT)
For table APPL_HIST_HDRS:
) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 0 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 NOCOMPRESS LOGGING
STORAGE(INITIAL 2147483648 NEXT 209715200 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT)
Does these mean that my tables were assigned to use KEEP buffer pool ?
Or are they are assigned to use defualt buffer pool, if so does it mean that my cache is not working and if so, how do I rectify this issue?
BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT means they were put into a pool named DEFAULT. You should leave them there and work on the actual problem first. There are queries to find out what is in the various pools, you can check that (and sometimes there are surprises). But in general, leave it until after fixing the code that is making the problem.
You should look at the top SQL and see if it is accessing those objects. You should look at all SQL accessing those objects. Look at the plans, including predicates. You can post those here for more help, see the thread about how to post a tuning request. The most likely thing is that some plan is not the best. After you fix that, you may find your problems magically change. (Assuming you checked all the config stuff I suggested). -
This last weekend, we migrated off of our old server 2003 cf7mx server, to a new Server 2008r2 x64 CF 9,0,1,274733 server. We are now experiencing slow response times for our server,according to the Windows Performance monitor our Avg Request times are way up. I have been going through some logs but nothing seems to leap out at me, but i am not the best CF admin. As i dont know what information would be usefull, i have tried to give all the info.

Please let me know if any other data would be usefull.Hi,
I expect the error details in CF9\runtime\logs\coldfusion-out.log will like provide a clue as to problem.
For a more long term plan I think you should do what you can to migrate the ACCESS data to SQL or some other database.

Hi Dears.
I am working on a database project. i have 5 pc and i have made a pc as a database server machine. the network is on peer to peer. so you can say there is a pc as database server with 4 work station which are accessing database on the server machine. initially the database response was very good but after 4000 records the response of database is too too much slow ( you can say in hanging).
what i do to speed up the database response, i am bothering about slow response of data base.
on server machin (i.e. is a pc) there is
256 RAM, 2.4 GHz processor
Windows XP
Oracle 8 Enterprize Edition
and Developer 6i
plz help men in suggestion of good resposneCouple of things,
1) With 256meg of RAM, it barely can be called a client machine let alone to be called a server machine.You seriously should have minimum 1gb to have somewhat performance from the system.
2) You are running oracle 8.Its a really really REALLY old version. Any chance to have an idea that how much data would you store over this box? If your data is limited under 4gigs, than you may look at Oracle XE for your project. But again, machine's HW resource will come in between.
3) Its not possible to have a guess about the performance degradation reasons just like that. It may be due to number of reasons. For example , in your case , the foremost reason is resource crunch. Try increasing this and than again use the box for some time. Feedback at that time how it is working.

Sound issues; slow response; usb ports unreliable and sd reader not working
The PC is a HP TouchSmart envy about 18 months old. Soon after purchasing I upgraded to Win 8.1.
About three or four months -ago probably after a Win update was installed- I began to have Sound issues (including not able to conect my external powered speakers any more- they used to work brilliantly and initially no sound at all but I went into settings and changed something and every now and again I have to do that again to get the PC speakers to work) ; slow response; usb ports unreliable, sd reader not working- as well as issues with the internet - the modem actually. It is easier to get on to a tablet and use the internet as my PC can be really slow. As well I have uninstalled Chrome and am using Explorer as this seems a little better but I miss Chrome.
I was advised by tech at Hervey Norman that I had to do a complete system restore but in order to do that I would need the recovery discs from HP? Is that correct? How do I do this?
PS I did not make recovery discs when I first purchased the machine. (Very sad!!!)
Help!!!
AlfristonHi again Alfriston,
Thank you for the clarification!
To return your computer's audio back to functional order, I recommend removing the audio driver from the operating system previous to upgrading to Windows 8.1, and installing the driver provided in this link.
If re-installing the driver does not resolve the issue, I suggest following the steps in this document on No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8).
In regards to the USB ports, I recommend following this resource on Troubleshooting USB Connections (Windows 8), which should help consistently connect your USB devices to your computer.
To prevent your computer from lagging or responding in a slow manner, please follow the step in this document on Resolving Slow System Performance (Windows 8) to help improve the speed and efficiency of the operating system.
To further diagnose the issue with your desktop's SD card reader, I recommend following this resource on Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 8).
If your desktop still experiences issues with the audio, USB connections, speed and performance, as well as the SD card reader, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

A Typical Nseries Slow Response Issue (Esp. To Nok...
I had this both on N73 & N93. I did not have this issue on my N95 yet, but I recently updated firmware to V30. May be the firmware installation is relatively new, the same issue has not happened yet on N95.
When you first start using the Nseries phone, it works relatively fast. Menus are fine. It is not that fast, I know, but it is fine.
But after couple months of normal using, I am not talking about installing so many applications, or having the memory card filled up full, just a normal use, the phone's operating system starts to slow down. This has always been an issue with Nseries.
What happens is that, in time, there is a slow menu response, menu lag, and esp. the phone lags when it is waking up from standby screen (screen saver).
This is also really weird: The phone goes in to the standby mode, the display is turned off, the bar showing the date and time appears, and the phone goes to sleep. (You can choose the time from setting menu). Now press a button to do something let's say, enter in to contacts, the phone phone can't wake up fast. It lags several seconds before it enters to, let's say, "Contacts."
Once you start using the phone, it is fast again, but it is that very moment, when it is first waking up from standby, turning on screen and all, adjusting the brightness, when you try to do someting at that very moment, it acts slower, kind of, well, it hangs... It does not do this when the phone's OS is fresh, it starts to do this in time.
Anyone had an idea why this may be happening? There must be a reason for this.
The easiest solution for this is to "Reset" the phone. And your phone goes back to it's brand new stage and yes, the phone works fine for a couple of weeks or months but then, same thing happenes again. And it is really pain it the ***** to reset the phone, re-install everything. It is really time consuming.
I guess we will have to live with that. I have never found a solid answer or a solution to this other than "resetting" or "updating" the phone's firmware. But may be I was thinking, may be someone knows what to do to trick the phone and avoid this really annoying "slow responses", "lags", or "temporary hangs".
Thanks In Advance.This is what I do:
1) When I get a new phone I boot it up. Let it finish the initial boot. Then Open Music Player, Video player, Photos, Video Center, Gallery, Camera,e tc. and check that everything seems fine.
2) I make a Back-up using content copier or now OVI.
3) I install only applications that I've tested and research that are not causing problems to the phone. If I'm trying some "unknown" application I'm always careful to make a recovery backup before I install so I can return.
4) Back up frequently Contacts, Pictures, Videos and other important stuff.
5) If the phone becomes unstable, memory fills up or something weird, then I reset and restore either the last known good backup point or the intial "new" backup I did in point 2)
In my experience the best way to keep the phone working properly is NOT to load a bunch of applications of unknown quality or origin. SPECIALLY keep away from unsigned applications. The fact that they're unsigned means that there have been NO testing done by any official source and there are NO guarantees that this will not break or damage your phone!.
640K Should be enough for everybody

Parameter based on decode/function field - slow response
Hi,
When one of the parameters of a report is used, the report takes a very long time to run. The parameter has a LOV of statuses in Hebrew.
The folder is a custom folder and the status in Hebrew is a decode field using a function. In other words, it first goes to a function to get the status, and then translates each status (I guess that the Hebrew will be strange but I hope that the general form of the decode is clear):
DECODE( APPS.JAFI_DISCO_UTILS_PKG.JAFI_GET_INVOICE_STATUS(
AI.INVOICE_ID,
AI.INVOICE_AMOUNT,
AI.PAYMENT_STATUS_FLAG,
AI.INVOICE_TYPE_LOOKUP_CODE),
'APPROVED','מאומת',
'NEVER APPROVED','מעולם לא עבר אימות',
'NEEDS REAPPROVAL','דורש אימות מחדש',
'CANCELLED','מבוטל',
'AVAILABLE','זמין',
'UNAPPROVED','לא מאומת',
'SELECTED FOR PAYMENT','נבחר לתשלום',
'FULL','מיוחס במלואו',
'UNPAID','לא שולם',' ')
I am assuming that the reason for the slow response is the constant run of the function in addition to the decode (which I was once told also slows the response a bit).
Is there anyway to change the sql somewhat? Without using the parameter the report takes about 2 1/2 minutes to run. Using the parameter it takes around 25 minutes to run.
Thank you.
Leah
Edited by: user476771 on May 10, 2010 2:09 AMHi Michael,
I think your suggestion #3, checking the indexes, is an excellent start.
As to the other suggestions, I believe that everything passed to the function is needed to find the status.
We seem to have serious problems running materialized views. Our dba is actually checking it out now. One group of mv were changed a few months ago so that they are no longer needed (someone worked around it using other tables for the data). Another mv is problematic even though it takes 14 minutes to create in a tst environment (which I happen to do yesterday) and causes no problems afterwards, it is a problem when run in prod as part of a job. As I mentioned, our dba is checking it out.
I hesitate to create a new table that is updated every night with the status of each invoice. It won't be up-to-date during the day, and it means changing the report that has otherwise run smoothly until now. The user avoids using the one parameter as much as possible so it's not THAT bad...
I really appreciate your giving the four suggestions.
Thank you so much.

Slow Response Sun ONE 6.1 SP3 Win 2003
My Sun ONE web server is processing my JSP pages very quickly when serving one session at a time. However when there are 4 or more active sessions, it slows right down. Response time goes from 2 seconds (1 active session) to 60 seconds (multiple active sessions) for a single JSP page. I've been running the performance monitor to see if I can notice anything, but nothing seems to stand out. I have tried manipulating the Keep Alive settings and the Performance settings within the Magnus Editor but there hasn't been a noticable improvement.
I've recently upgraded to SP4 to see if this solved my problem, but there was no imporvement.
This server is an HP DL380 with dual 2.8GHz Xeon processors & 2 Gigs of RAM. There is a lot of available disk space. I'm running Windows 2003 and it's up to date with all the latest patches.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced this before?
I've attached the output from my performance monitor:

Thanks...The JSP's are simply Hello World JSP's (however I created these type of JSP's for testing and they do respond slowly as well when these are multiple sessions).
These JSP functioned fine on iPlanet 6.0 SP1 (JDK 1.2.2) without any slow response on Win2K and inferior hardware. -
Slow response using internet, just hangs
Not the best at IT and just clicked update when it came up as available without realising what I was doing! Turns out it was an upgrade to os x 10.9.4. Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait. Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well. Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this. I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version. I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups. I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!! Results below
Problem description:

Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait. Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well. Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this. I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version. I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups. I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!! Results below

Extremely Slow Response when attempting to display files on Windows Server
I have set up File Sharing on my MacBook Pro using SMB and defined the folders that are available to be shared. When I look at the Network Neighbourhood in Windows Explorer the Macbook appears listed with all the other PCs on the network. When I try to open the Macbook in Explorer it takes a very long time to open (about 2 minutes or so) and shows me the list of folders. When I try to open a folder the exact same thing happens - it opens after a couple of minutes, this continues for every folder that I try to open. I thought it might be that Explorer needed to "catalog" the files in the folders but the same thing happens each time - if I close the connection and try again it takes the same amount of time. What is very strange is that if I connect to the Windows Server from the Mac opening and looking at shared folders/files is instantaneous so clearly this is not a network problem. If I use the Win2K3 server to look at other computers/files the result is the same - instantaneous access, so it has nothing to do with the Win2K3 server - clearly the problem is with the MacBook serving up the file information to the Win2K3 server. I have tried with AFP on and off and the result is the same. The user name/pwd is the same on both the Win2K3 and the Macbook - and I have tried with a different username on the Win2K3 - no difference. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
Yes they are on the same workgroup, on ethernet, plugged into the same switch. The Mac can read and copy files of the Win2K3 server with no problem. The problem is clearly at the Mac end as the Win2K3 server can view files on any machine on the network without the slow response, the Mac can view files on the Win2K3 server without the slow response, it is only when the Win2K3 server tries to view files on the Mac.

Random users getting very slow response when opening messages/attachments or sending email
I have a small number of users, mostly very senior management of course, who are experiencing slow response when trying to open email messages and attachments or send messages.
They see the spinning wheel and sit there until it decides to open or send. If the message is opened and closed again you would expect it to be quick reopening the same message, no, it does the same thing again.
These users are all using Outlook 2010 and their mail accounts are on Exchange 2013. It does not seem to make a difference if they use a physical machine or log into a VDI.
I do not have the same issue generally, though I have experienced this when using VDI and this has been seen using a number of different machine pools so it is not a specific pool.
This is not specifically a VDI issue, as the 3rd paragraph says, the issues are seen on both physical and virtual machines.
none of the mailboxes are particularly large, most are at around 60% of quota limit, and the same limit applies to almost all mailboxes across the organization. They also do not appear to have a huge number of messages stored, other users without issues
have larger mailboxes and higher item counts. Any ideas what I need to look at to address this?Hi,
How about OWA?
If OWA works well, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
Please try to run Outlook under safe mode and re-create profile for testing.
Any related error/warning/information message left in App Log?
Also consider the network Bandwidth.
Thanks

I often get very slow response when I click on a link, any link. But if I go back and click on the link again, then the page will open almost immediately. I discovered this by accident and noticed that this happens every time. It would be nice if I got fast response on the first click without having to do this silly procedure and it seems to me that there's a simple fix. I would appreciate it if you could help. I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Al
Version 26.0 Firefox, Windows XP, sp/3Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Slow response when using Xcelsius web service connection witn input values
We've been very successful in using the Xcelsius Web Service Connection. We've recently moved forward toward using input values when calling a web service and having issues with response time. Without input values, it takes 3 - 6 seconds to retrieve and display the results in Xcelsius, but, when using the input values to the web service, it takes about 27 seconds for Xcelsius to retrieve and display the results. Does anyone have experience with fixing slow response associated with using input values for a web service connection?
Hi Sharone,
What's the version of your Xcelsius and BOBJ server?
I'm asking because using the last version of BOBJ server (BOXI 3.1 SP 3) you have new services on CMC just to help Xcelsius to work better with WebServices.

Program Monitor - slow response
In the effect controls I can scale, rotate etc by entering values or pulling sliders.
However I am suffering from a very slow response doing scaling, rotating and translating in the program monitor- while Motion has been highlighted in the effect controls.
Also I have noticed there is a yellow box with handles in the program monitor. I remember it was white before.
I like to scale in Program Monitor since it works more interactively.
I cannot figure out what to change in my preferences.
Best,
Hans Wessels
