Slow responsiveness and occasional Freezing 7.03

Good morning,
I continue to experience very slow loading of Quick Time, and subsequent use of all its features. Eg when using Picture Viewer it can take 60 seconds to load. When setting preferences it can take a similar length moving from one menu to another. CPU usages strains away at 100%. if watching a movie clip again it will take an age to load and then sometimes will freeze on play back, necessitating a reboot. I keep the system clean and up to date with Mcaffee and Microsoft Anti Spyware. This is the only programme I run where I have such problems. I'd be really grateful for any suggestions.

I'm going to give you several things you can try that can and does slow down XP.
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings, remove the Temp files from the following folders. Temp, Temporary Internet Files content IE, jpi_Cache [file] 1.0 and [jar] 1.0, Cookies, Recent. Remove the Temp files not the entire folder they are in!
C:\Windows\Prefetch, delete all the temp files in there except Layout ini.
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp\Cache, delete everything in there.
Defrag your Hard drive or drives.

  • Flash causes Firefox to slow down and even freeze (and on a gaming laptop, too). How to fix this?

Every time I use the Flash plug-in (for videos on YouTube or PutLocker or whatever), FireFox just slows down a lot and even freezes. It happens very often now and it's really annoying.
By the way, I am using a gaming laptop so I am not sure why I am having these problems. My Flash plug-in and firefox are updated to the latest versions, too.
    My specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Intel i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHZ (8 CPUs)
nVidia GTX 560m 3GB vRAM dedicated
    16GB RAM

Okay, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. That helped only for about ten minutes and it started doing it again.
I don't know what else to do. :S

  • Since the upgrade to 4.0.1, both of my mac osx computers get multiple popups, despite being enable, and slow tracking and frequent freezing

Since the upgrade to 4.0.1, both of my mac osx computers get multiple popups and popunders, despite the block popups being enabled, as well as slow tracking(at regular card game sites, and frequent freezing of open windows.

Honestly I would never run both Win 7 & XP at the same time in a VM. 7 needs at least 4GB to run properly and uses more resources then XP.
I personally use VMware Fusion and XP. At this time there is no software, that I'm aware of or use, that does not run on XP. So for my Mac Win VM purpose I only run XP with the software in need to use in Windows. This work very well for me. I have 2 CPUs and 3GBs of RAM assigned to XP. Leaving the other 2 CPU cores, 4 HT cores, and 5GBs of RAM for OS X.
Not sure why you need, or want, to run both versions of Windows at the same time. I don't see the need as stated above.

  • Fusion drive lack of response and system freeze

I have a 2013 iMAC with fusion drive.
I find that I get very slow response when I open a folder in finder - it takes anything up to 10 seconds for the contents of that folder to be displayed.  I also get the system just hang when I do simple photoshop work.
    Can anyone help?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • My 2007 iMac runs slow and occasionally freezes on startup

    Hello,
    iMac overview:
    iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007)
Processor:  GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
    OS: OS X Yosemite, 10.10.2
250 GB SATA Disk shows 154.58 GB free of 249.2 GB
I have been having the following issues with my iMac since upgrading to Mavericks, and they've persisted through to Yosemite...
    Issues:
intermittent "data crunching" sound that will last for up to 10 minutes, causing active applications to stall
if I drag the cursor over the dock early during startup, the computer will freeze
if I launch an application early during startup, the computer will freeze
Mail occasionally "re-counts" and reloads the messages in my inboxes, causing Mail to stall or freeze
Any ideas? (If it's recommended that I provide more information gathered from Terminal, I'll need clear instructions.)
    Thank you

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Your model has upgradable memory. Install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.

  • Ios 8 on i phone 5 slow response and freeze a lot

I've updated my i phone 5 to ios 8.0.2  but now it's so slow  , freeze a lot and most of the apps crash  i turned on my location service nothing changes

As razmee209 said, you can use iTunes to install photos on your phone from wherever you have them stored. Where did you copy them to? Are you saying you selected them on you phone and just hit "copy"? That would only copy one at a time to the "clipboard" so that you can paste it somewhere else. As you copy each one, the previous one is deleted from the clipboard. This is not a storage area. Did you back them up on your computer or in iCloud?

  • Installed OS X Maverick on Macs...having problems slower system and apps freezing

I installed and downloaded OS X Maverick last week and installed it in relatively new Macbook Pro and IMac...both purchased last year...have experienced applications freezing, slower start up time several times, once was unable to start my Macbook Pro...had to reboot..and slower system response...anyone else experiencing the same?

Checked to see how much space is available ??
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
As for slow startup, delete all apps in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
Same for HD > Library > StartupItems
Anti virus software can slow your Macs down if installed.

  • Slow boot and eventual freeze of system

ok here is the low down, my computer is booting up fairly slow at times, and other times at normal speed. Sometimes it does not boot at all. When it does boot up, it appears to be running normally, then all of the sudden nothing happens. I can move the mouse but nothing is reacting. the programs do not respond, nothing that is supose to be animated moves, and essentially everything stops, except I can still move the mouse freely. I am getting about 15 min of good use out of it before it kills over and freezes up, that is if it will boot properly.
Is this a Hard Drive or system error and how would I go about getting my information off of the computer.

To get the information off the computer, if you can get it to boot, you should backup your data. There are many means of backing up data, though if you can't boot, Getting an external Firewire hard drive that is at least 80 GB, and Prosoft Data Rescue may be necessary if you haven't backed up. Prosoft Data Rescue can be found here:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/
Once you know you have a complete backup of your data, you may want examine the drive's directory and see if it can be repaired following these instructions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If it can't be repaired, you can either get Alsoft Disk Warrior from:
    http://www.alsoft.com/
Or erase and install the operating system while there are no hard drive's connected externally, and upgrade back to 10.3.9 with the combo update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
If after doing that and not installing any third party peripherals or software it still is slowing down, then you may have a hardware issue which needs to be examined with the hardware test disk that came with your machine. I'm not certain, but I think all 17" Powerbooks have the hardware test as a second bootable volume on the restore disk that is bootable via the Startup Manager described here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
Run the extended test, and report back the results if you end up having to go this far.

  • Droid 2 slow response and no 3g

the response time when i try to open an app or switch screens is a very slow.  I hardly ever lately have been connecting to 3G service as well.

Lufty419, thank you for sharing your issue and I want to help speed up your phone! Is this happening with specific applications? Clear the cache from any applications this is happening with. Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, All, Application, Clear data/cache. Also what happens when you try to access internet? What city and state are you located in? Try also booting your phone into safe mode to see if either of these issues are resolved. If the phone is working fine in safe mode, a third party app may be causing the issue. bit.ly/o5McAQ Try uninstalling recently installed apps especially battery saver, task killer or antivirus apps.

  • My Mac pro desktop is slow! And will freeze up.

I was trying to move a lot of pictures to another user to the shared file folder. During the process I quickly discovered that it was moving it to the desktop. So I stopped the process and that's when the computer froze up. I ended up restarting the computer but no luck. I even went as far to re install the operating software. I have looked in the activity monitor, desk repair, but nothing shows a problem. What's weird is that all the other users work fine. I didn't have the time maching turned on. The computer is only about a year old with tons of free space. Some of the programs work ok before the desktop fills up. Is there a cache that I can empty? I don't have too many apps or even use the computer all that much. Please help I am somewhat new to Apple, but a fan for life!

Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
You may now be able to log in and move the files off the Desktop. Then reboot as usual.

  • Slow launch and intermittent freezing in Windows 8.1

Been trolling through the threads and cannot find a solution. I've also tried the QTMovieWin.dll solution but no change. I've also uninstalled, then went back and deleted all reminants of iTunes related files (incl. Bonjour, iCloud, etc), then re started the computer and re-installing the latest iTunes program (via run as administrator). I've done this several times to date. On each occasion I launch iTunes but it take at least 10minutes for it to launch, and when it is running it intermittently freezes for a couple of minutes or so. Problem is worse when I attach one of my devices, and then becomes a pig of a thing to complete certain tasks.
Has anyone come across this behaviour? As far as I'm aware the drivers are update, but are any specific drivers that I should double check?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello eycon
Try out the article below to troubleshoot your issue with iTunes freezing on you. Also check to make sure that when you removed iTunes, did you uninstall in the order of the second article as it does make a difference when troubleshooting the issue.

  • Slow, Very, slow navagating and screen freeze's through menu screens.

The other day I Purchased AV RCA cables from the Apple store. I took them home and hooked my Ipod up to my TV. Later I downloaded rental from Itunes, and then noticed my I pod would freeze over and over even after 4 resets. Then I went to my settings and saw that my memery was at 0kb. I know for a fact that yesterday I had around 30gb, and now I have nothing. Can anyone that may have gone through this tell me what is going on. I'm so lost. Thanks

    Sharpeiboy,
First thing is please correct  your profile, there is no such thing as a iMac G5 Intel. Either your machine is a G5 which is PPC based or it's an Intel iMac.
However where I would check first is how much available disk space you have. In Finder right click iMac HD in the left pane and choose Get Info. Mac's need a minimum of 10-15% of the HD space available in order to operate well. If you have over 15% then look over 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac, chances are the solution is in there.

  • Slower response and battery not lasting.

My macbook pro is running slower at times and the fan is staying on.  Are there any utilities I should run to clean it?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Slow response and access of Weblogic Portal Workshop 8.1 sp3

    Hi All,
    Environement : Weblogic Portal 8.1 sp3
    Weblogic Portal Workshop 8.1 sp3
    Windows XP
    Problem:
When the application initially opens up in Weblogic Portal Workshop , the scanning takes too much time.At that time CPU usage is almost 100% with only Weblogic Portal Workshop running. Our application has a webapplication module whose build also takes almost 20 mins. After a build , the workshop hangs with 'Out of memory' error.
Size of our application is almost 200 MB (source code with library files). The application also uses almost 60 .JCS and .JCX files.
    Solutions we tried.
    1. The RAM memory was upgraded to 2GB with a processor speed of 3.3 GHz
    2. We have updated the workshop.cfg with the parameter of -XX:-UseThreadPriorities -Xmx768m
    Thanks a lot in advance

We have had some of the same problems with our 8.1.3 portal. The performance is terrible in Workshop.
Unfortunally i dont have that much more advice then that you could try to split your application into several projects to reduce the strain on Workshop and hopefully reduce the build time.
