  • Slow running after install of 10.4.4

    Since installing Tiger several applications either don't respond at all, or respond slowly to file>open or file>new. Just get spinning RGB wheel. Sometimes this behavior abates with restart. Do I have to re-install Tiger? The apps (CS, MicroOff, Stuffit)?

    Well... Stuffit has been known to TOTALLY slow down when an internet connection to its server is not available -- once when their server went down, no one was able to unstuff anything. There is a Terminal command that will tell Stuffit to NOT attempt a connect all the time. Open up a Terminal Window and type:
    defaults write com.stuffit.Expander allowVersionChecking -bool NO
    See if that affects how Stuffit behaves. If it's convenient, try pulling your internet cable (or wireless card) and see if the apps open more quickly... there are several that open very very slowly at times because they are looking around for things on the local network (e.g. Dreamweaver, Peak 4).

  • Slow running after 10.8.2 update

    My MacBook Pro is running very slowly after the 10.8.2 update.  Apps take longer to launch and even from Sleep it takes several seconds before I can type in my password.  I'm not running anything unusual on my machine, just office based stuff.

    Hi Guys,
    I am quite new convert from windows to mac and relatively ignorant mac, trying to get used to it with every use.
    I bought Macbook Pro running 10.8.2 2.5GHz with 4GB about half a year ago. This is my first Mac and I got impression that it is much faster and better than windows. However, it turned out that it is not so fast after all. It is relatively very slow when starting up, opening applications and waking up...similar to what others said. Not only that, it seems that it is eating memory no matter how much you provide.
    I installed Adobe Creative Suite recently and with 4GB I was loosing all memory in a short time. Basically, within a minute or so, I would be running out of the RAM.
    Few days ago, I upgrated memory to 16GB and guess what?! Running Photoshop and Indesign together with usual suspects (Firefox, Mail and Finder) would easily eat up over 8GB of RAM. Is that normal?!
    Not only that, I realized that immediately after the start up of the system it eats up between 2.5 to 4GB. Now, what should I do?! Your advice and inputs are highly appreciated...thanks

  • Classic not running after MacOS X is installed

    Please help, my computer crashed and was sent in for repairs and upgraded to OS X Jaguar. Since then I cannot run my Classics environment. It tells me I need to install 9.2 or later (many kid CD's that used to play no longer work either, saying there is no supporting Classic environment).
    I have 9 factory disks labeled Mac OS 9 Install, Applications, Developer Tools, Software Restore 1-6. Do I use any of these or all of these?
    Thank you,
    Megan

    Insert the Mac OS 9 CD and restart your computer with the C key held down. From here, look at the folder System:Library:CoreServices on the hard disk and see if it has a smiling Mac icon; if so, drag the Finder item inside to the desktop. Next, install Mac OS 9 normally; if you moved the Finder item, select it and choose Put Away from the File menu. Set your Mac OS X system as the startup disk in the Startup Disk control panel and restart your computer.

  • IWork 09, FCP 7 work run after 10.7.5 install

    Had the Apple store do a clean install of my system (iMac 21" late 2011) and they put on 10.7.5.
    I ran Software Update, and it ran an update for iWorks 09.  Now I get the
    "Check with the developer to make sure Pages works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X...." message.
    Tried running permissions, no change.
    Then I tried to run FCP 7 that worked fine three days ago on 10.7.4, and I get the same message.  (No lectures on FCP7 vs FCP 10).
    Aperture asked for the serial number 3 times, then it runs OK.
    The software was installed from a Time Machine backup from 3 days ago, for what that's worth.  Any ideas?

    Answering my own question here....  I uninstalled FCP7 that I restored from Time Machine, and re-installed it with the original discs and it works now.
    Maybe the way I installed it (FCP7) from Time Machine (just grabbed the FCP icon and asked it to Restore) doesn't do the whole job.
    I'll do the same for iWork and see what happens.
    Adobe CS5 stuff was all a little rocky (needed java, etc) but that's for later.

  • I-Mac G-4 very slow running after update from Panther to Tiger 10.4.

    I-Mac G-4 800 MHz, 768 Ram; updated to Tiger 10.4 from Panther; used DiskWarrior to recreate new catalog; used System Optimizer X to optimize. Neither helped. Start up takes approximately 4+ minutes! Was faster before. Use computer for IL 10.0 and PS 7.0 graphics design. Not internet connected at this time. Ideas? Help?

    I-Mac   Mac OS X (10.4)   800 MHz; 768 SDRAM

    Hi Rickety
    My best guess is that you have some application which runs a daemon in the background, and which is not compatible with Tiger. Possible suspects are Virex, Norton AV 9, Norton Utilities, ermm, Cisco VPN.
    Check your third party applications for Tiger compatibility. Please report back: I've had a lot of people not reply lately, and so I do not know whether my suggestions have helped, or whether there is further help needed with the problem.

  • Dynamic JNLP causes exception on 1st run after java install

    I have a dynamic JNLP file (php) which runs my software. It works just fine, except for the 1st time it is run after a user has installed Java.
    I get the exception; "The following field was missing from the jnlp file: <jnlp>". When I look at the jnlp code in JWS in the "Launch File" tab of the error message, I see that the JNLP is not there - but the page the user would see if he was not logged into the system (as if JWS has cached the file or something).
    If I close it down, press F5 to refresh, and run it again everything works fine.
    I'm running the dyanmic.jnlp?dummy=randomnumber943934 to prevent caching. In addition, these headers are sent: (php code)
    header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");
    // HTTP/1.1
    header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate");
    header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
    // HTTP/1.0
    header("Pragma: no-cache");.. so nothing should be cached. But I'm not sure that's where the problem is - cause it only happens the first time after a java install.
    Any clues?

    I think you're dynamicallt created jnlp is invalid in someway; I can use the following without any problems:
    <?php
    header("Content-type: application/x-java-jnlp-file");
    echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" ?>\n";
    $codebase = trim(stripslashes(urldecode($_REQUEST["codebase"])));
    $href = trim(stripslashes(urldecode($_REQUEST["href"])));
    echo "<jnlp spec=\"1.0+\" codebase=\"$codebase\" href=\"$href\">\n";
    ?>
    </jnlp>
    you should try and test the output of your generated code, something like this should work:
    test.php
    <html>
    <body>
    <textarea rows=20 cols=70>
    <?php
    include 'mydynamicscript.php';
    ?>
    </textarea>
    </body>
    </html>
    The first time a jnlp is called it is downloaded into the browser cache and javaws.exe is executed on it from that location, this in turn downloads the jnlp again from the passed codebase & href attributes into the jws cache. Subsequent calls the jnlp are extracted from the copy in the webstart cache, and often downloaded from the codebase & href attributes when it detects possible changes. In your case these jnlp files seem to differ.

  • Slow running mini mac

    My mini mac is very slow running after I had th logic board replaced, any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
    See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Slow down after installing Lion OS

    My Macbook pro later than 2009 model slowed down after installing the new OS Lion
    any suggestions to speed it up

    First suggestion ,there have been a number of identical user questions like yours, in the Lion Community. If you want to talk to other MacBook Pro owners, try the forum they have.
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro
    What you do not need is some gizmo to "speed up" or clean caches etc.
    Maybe you need to make more room on your hard drive, or add more RAM.
    For now, hold down Command-R and run Disk Utility to check the health of your system drive (Lion Recovery Mode)

  • Unable to get SQL Server Agent to run after installing SQL 2012 Standard with SP1

    I am unable to get SQL Server Agent to run after installing SQL 2012 Standard with SP1. Log message is as follows:
    Attempting to load library 'xplog70.dll' into memory. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
    Failed to verify Authenticode signature on DLL 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\xplog70.dll'.
    Error: 17750, Severity: 16, State: 0.
    Could not load the DLL xplog70.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: (null).

    Hi JFriedley,
    According to your error message, there might three reasons for this issue.
    xplog70.dll is corrupt, you need to check if you have any SQL Server running on same file version and same production
     edition. If xplog70.dll is corrupt, you can copy it from the new server where agent is running fine to your problematic server.
    Native client not installed properly. If you try applying any latest Service Pack or Cumulative Update then check if the SQL Server Agent can start, if that also doesn’t solve issue then try to reinstalling SQL Server Native client from SQL Server setup
    files.
    There is a similar issue about error 17750, you can review the following article.

    My 2006 iMac running Snow Leopard won't boot even after erasing and re-installing Snow Leopard.   I erased and re-installed by putting the iMac in Target Disk mode and usin my MacBookPro as the host.  But after numerous attempts I still can't get it to boot either from the HD or DVD drive. I just get the white screen after the wheel stops spinning.  I can't get it to run Hardware Test - just get the white screen.  If I use Disk Utility via my MBP it says the disk appears OK. All the Snow Leopad files appear to have been installed. What can I do?

    Perhaps you installed the wrong version OS X onto the iMac, you can't use the disk from another Mac.
    clean the disk.
    If it's not working then use this method to create a bootable 10.6 USB from the iMac machine specific 10.6 disk or the 10.6.3 retail disk on your other Mac, use it to boot the iMac with.
