Slow running programs part two..

Question

Okay, so I'm posting this for my husband that is currently deployed and having issues with his macbook that he just purchased right before he left (Febuary). His computer is now giving him troubles with programs taking ages to load. He said that one program took about 3 hours to load completely. What/any advice can I give him to resolve this issue? He has the warrenty package but since I'm in Alaska, shipping costs are expensive and we'd like to avoid them as much as possible. Please help if you know of any suggetions that I can give him and what not. Thank you!

Well, yes, three hours is too long. However, is it possible that he is trying to access programs over the internet? What I mean is he sure that the program he is trying to run is physically present on his local hard drive (in its entirety)?
If it is on his local drive, then the long load times _may_ be being caused by a hard drive problem. He should run the verify disk and verify permissions checks using Apple's Disk Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities). If he finds any problems he should make certain that he has backups of his important data and then run the repair options within Disk Utility. Also make certain that the disk's S.M.A.R.T. status is shown as OK (look at lower right side of window in Disk Utility).
If the disks check okay then he should run Apple's Hardware diagnostics. To do that, shutdown the computer, hold down the "D" key and restart the MacBook (while still holding down on the "D" key). Continue to hold the "D" key down and after a while a window should appear with instructions on how to run the diagnostics (at this time he may, of course, release the "D" key).
After My husband tried it This is what he said:
ok tell em i do the verify disk permissions and nothing comes up and then i rerify the disk and it says invalid node structure volume check failed error:filesystem verify or repair failed

I have become cheesed off with the slow speed at
which my Java programs execute.This might not be Java's fault.
I believe that Java doesn't really compile its source code, It compiles java into byte-code.
rather it converts it into some other kind of wierd stuff thatThere is stuff involved, but it is not that wierd. :)
will work on any computer. As you have guessed, there
is a lot I don't really understand (eg I can't see
the difference between one PC and the next). Not all computers are PCs, but you make your point clearly.
What I'm getting at is this: is there such a thing as a Java compiler?There is a java compiler which compiles to machine code.
Is it any good? Many libraries including Swing don't work.
And will it make much of a difference?A poorly written program will run slow in any lanuage. An efficient program will run fast in Java. If you have to you can use JNI, but it is unlikely to be your answer.
