Slow search facility

Hi,
If I have a reasonably long document in Acrobat Reader and I do a search, when I type the first letter in the search field it counts the number of occurrences of that letter in the document, which can take several minutes (e.g. there were over 10,000 ds in the document I was searching), then the number of occurrences of the first two letters, etc. Is this supposed to happen? It is very frustrating!
I have got round it by typing the whole search phrase elsewhere and then pasting it into the search field, but that's not idea.

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search. Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

Why won't the search facility work in mail and calendar? I've just updated the software on my iPhone 5 to IOS 8.1.2 and it worked perfectly before this.

Improved forum search facility?

Hi,
is there any chance that the search facility can be improved for this forum?
I'm a pl/sql - forms developer who is trying to move to JDeveloper ADF - UIX (and hopefully soon, ADF Faces)
Having an advanced option where we can write more selective search criteria would be a great bonus e.g. ("tree" AND ("UIX" OR "Faces")).
Also, is it necessary to return a hit for every occurence of the search criteria within one thread? Would it not be more effective to simply display the thread heading once indicating that your search criteria returned a hit 1 or more times within this thread?
Unless of course these options are available and I just can't find them.
This aside, thanks for all the help and code snippets available on this site. It's been a big help over the past few months.

I'll try the solution suggest above, but I should not have to.
One of the prerequsites steps is for us to check SDN before raising a support call. The way the site works now makes this a little harder, or at least more effort.

I'm sure they'll get it sorted, eventually, especially as we are possibly raising a few more support calls now as many people can't be bothered to go through the extra effort to try and find a solution using SDN. So I guess it's in SAP's favour to get this working ASAP.

The "Search" facility on iTunes is ridiculously inadeqate !!!

The iTunes Store has expanded in leaps and bounds but the "Search" facility has remained the same squatty little box where you can't find exactly what you are looking for and the "Results" display cuts off the end of the results !
What we need are proper advanced search facilities to cope with the size of the content now on the store !!!

There is no power search for my own library, as far as I can tell. And the local search is easier to trip up with trivial mismatches than the store search.

And for some reason it doesn't like extraneous commas locally, but will take 'em in a store search. For example, copy-n-past this from some website into search in the itunes store...

...and get predictable results. Do that locally and you'll get nothing because it doesn't like the comma.
In short, in the 21st century you'd want a music library and store to have a music-specific search that is not easily tripped up by trivial mismatches, misspellings, abbreviations, punctuation and nicknames. Finding, say, which album contains a track I want, is easier on amazon than on itunes, just like using google to find things in wikipedia is easier than using the wiki search. And if an itunes search comes up empty, I copy-n-paste the search into amazon to see if what I'm looking for really isn't available or if I typed something trivially wrong. It's usually the latter.

AR9.x bug in search facility

The attached test sheet, which is also available at:

The bug is particularly insidious as it causes AR to exit

I've now had a chance to try the search-bug.pdf on a Ubuntu 9.04 machine,
the behaviour is certainly different than on my SUSE 10.3 box. AR9.x
passes the test as written i.e. it can find the word "quick." But if I reload
the document and search for another one of the test words (e.g. fox)
AR fails to find the word. Therefore I'm left wondering if the search
facility is accessing an unitialized variable, resulting in variable behaviour.
Another observation which backs this up is that on the SUSE 10.3
box, AR9.x does not exit when searching for the /Widget text "quick"
provided one first searches for a word in the regular page stream.
However it fails to locate the word, again indicating that something is amiss.

p.s. Is there any reason why AR9.1.3 cannot be run using strace?
I tried, but unlike previous AR releases it causes my X-server to hang.

Some contacts are missing, but I can find them with the search facility

Hello,
I don't know when and how it happened (maybe when I updated to 4.0), but suddenly 75% or more of my contacts disappeared from the iPhone. There is an old back-up copy in iTunes, but it is completely outdated.
The funny thing is that if I do a serach for themissing contacts in teh Search facility of the iPhone, I find them.
Note: Since I upgraded to 4.0, all my contacts are grouped in something called "All" (that did not exist before).
Just for the record, I'm using an iPhone 3GS.
Is there any way to bring back the missing contacts (which are there, somewhere, in the iPhone, because I can find them when I do a search) into the list of contacts?

Couldn't it be that the iPhone has created a group called "All Contacts" that only contains "some" of the contacts? In that case, where would the other contacts be? If I create a new group, it will be empty. So I don't see how would moving contacts from teh "ALl Contacts" group to the new empty group could help.
Another problem is that at first I had only the contacts I had imported from a previous cell phone. Later on, when I thought I was making a backup of these contacts with iTunes, it imported all the info from my Outlook Contacts, 95% of which I did not want in my iPhone. But anyways, that happened long before this problem (not being able to access to all the contacts from the iPhone's Phone application and having to look for them with the iPhone's search facility).

BEST PRACTICE FOR AN EFFICIENT SEARCH FACILITY

Whilst in Training, our Trainer said that the most efficiency from the Sharpoint Search would be to install the Search Facility on a separate server (hardware).
Not sure how to have this process done.

Flaw in Repository Search facility - solution is available too

Today I decided to write a small package, an extension, to the Repository Object Browser for Oracle 10g (or 9i) Designer and Oracle 10g SCM. This extension will provide something like a Dashboard, that will show a quick overview of the most recent events in our Repository or Workarea, depending on the scope you select. Events are currently defined as: Check In, Check Out, Change of Object. You can regard this extension as a tailor made application of the functionality already offered by the Repository Search facility.
The Repository Search facility relies on the column DATE_CHANGED in the table I$SDD_OBJECT_VERSIONS to find all objects changed on or after a certain date or before a certain date of course. However, I just noticed the following:
* When the Primary Element is changed for example an Entity or Module or Table Definition this column is correctly updated, as is the column OBJ_NOTM (number of times modified)
* When a Secondary Element is changed for example an Attribute, Module Component or Constraint this column is NOT updated. However, the column OBJ_NOTM (number of times modified) IS updated!
This means that for my ROB Dashboard I cannot rely on the Date Changed column. Whats more: the Repository Search in the ROB as it is shipped by Oracle has a flaw: if you ask for all objects changed before or after a certain date, you are pretty likely to receive an incorrect answer, as the DATE_CHANGED column used in this type of query is not maintained as you would expect it to be.

Do you have any version of Premiere Elements 13 or only Photoshop Elements 13 which comes with Elements Organizer 13?
Let us look at the following for Elements Organizer 13....
1. Deletion of disabling the Elements Organizer 13 setting file which is named psa.prf. In Windows 7, 8, o 8.1 64 bit, it is found in the
path
Local Disk C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Elements Organizer
13.0
Organizer
and in the Organizer Folder is the psa.prf file that you delete or disable by renaming it from psa.prf to psa.prfOLD.
2. If the above gains you successful entry into the Elements Organizer 13, then you can
a. create a new catalog
and/or
b. repair or optimize the current one
See Elements Organizer 13/File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager.
3. There are times that certain formats will bring the Elements Organizer down when you try to import those formats into
it. But, from what you wrote, your current problems do not sound media related.
3. At your earliest opportunity, please update Elements Organizer 13 to 13.1 using its Help Menu/Updates.

Slow Searches on XServe...from SOME computers

Having a weird issue where I have some computers logging into our XServe that are getting really slow search results. My Macbook gets lightning quick search results, and one of the iMacs we have gets very fast search results as well. However, we have systems that just search and search. Whereas my laptop finds things more or less instantly, our Mac towers (which range from 2x2.66GHz Dual Cores with 5GB of RAM to a Dual 2GHz Power PC G5) take forever on searches.
It's not a network issue, as they can search each others drives very rapidly. And it doesn't appear to be a system software issue, as while I am running Leopard (as is the server), the iMac is running 10.4.11, as are the Mac towers.
Any help would be VERY appreciated - this is incredibly frustrating!!!

Might be a bad idea to discount a network problem so quickly. Speaking of which, is this a wired, wireless or mixed network?
Are you sure that the Macs in question are connected at the speed that you think they are? Do all of the machines take the same physical route to the servers? Are the slow G5s connected to the same physical switch or router? If they are wired have you tried swapping ports on the switch or router to which the Macs are wired?

New version of Safari 6 has lost the toolbar search facility.

I have just downloaded the latest Safari V6.0 but the Google search window is no longer on the toolbar.
I used View/Customise Toolbar to open a window which appears allow changes to the toolbar, but drag and drop does not work for the Address and Search facility.

If after clicking on an address from the drop down search window you want to go back to the list you were presented with is that possible? I end up having to do a new search and start from scratch from my homepage when I really want to just click through some of the options I originally got from my search.

Site Search Facility

I am trying to implement a site search facility to my site. However, i still need to apply some restrictions to the documents that are retrieved. I cannot seem to apply any restrictions to the custom search facility provided and was wondering if anyone had overcome this problem previously?
