Slow speed help from India - its a joke!!!

Just had my forst experience of BT customer service from India. What a laugh. Poor English, clearly following a script, she couldn't understand me, I couldn't understand her, she doesn't know anything about computers. She kept on disapearing to read her script and then came back with more inane questions. I really don't hold out much hope for a solution.
Apparently now its a fault with the line and has been reported to BT telephone dept. and will be sorted in a few days. I think she just gave up personally.
Still, I'm getting a reliable 120KPS. should be thankful really!!

Well I dont know if the Indian lady did anything but its back to normal now. Actually better - getting 2600kbps which is 1100 faster than ever before!!

  • On Demand slow speed - Help

Hello again everyone, all I seem to do is complain about BT, my goodness its so annoying & you will have to listen to me again..Sorry guys.
Here is my problem I finally decided to go for BT Vision had it about 2 weeks, I forgot to record a programme & eventually found it through the on demand page, however it plays it & then the sounds cuts & so does the picture..Not good as you can imagine, this only seems to happen via the on demand, my TV & Recordings are fine.
Spoke to Technical who couldn't help me & sent out an engineer on Sat after the engineer tying to figure it out he noticed the adaptors lights are not communication to one another & green lights turn to red & then back to green so they are loosing signals with one another. (due to internal wiring in my flat)
However the BT engineer suggested he fits a BT phone socket (as my main hub in the hall about 5 meters or so away from my actual Bt vision box & TV) however for his to fit it it would coast me £150!!!!
No chance, so What I want to know is - is there no alternative, I don't think its very fair to have a box & not be able to watch the on demand as that the whole point in having it & BT main selling point as you can watch whenever suits !!
I cannot use a cable - unless I buy one long enough to reach from living room to hall - however the cable would be visible.
Can anyone suggest an alternative solution to this ?
What happened before these adaptors come into play with the BT box how was it connected before, can BT not offer me that ?
Help would be much appreciated !
    thanks
    stace

Before the self-install came with the powerline adaptors, you would have had to pay for the install.
You could try a self-install phone extension kit (from most DIY stores), but this might affect your broadband speed. Alternatively buy a long ethernet cable.
Either way, there's going to be a cable running around your house.

  • E-3000 Slow Speed-Help

Need help! Just purchase E-3000 last week. I' getting anywhere from 7-4Mbps. Call cox Cable... Did a speed test  by connecting the cable directly to the PC (strong signal). However, when connected to the router, rec'd weak signals (up/down) . Cox said it was the router... Besides my PC , I have my son's PC and daughter's laptop sharing the router via wireless. No components are directly connected to the router... I got rid of my old, but great Linksys WRT54G for the E-3000.  The settings are factory set for mixed 2.4 and GHz. I need speed!!! Thanks, Guy from San Diego....

it's also happend to me. I've turn off wireless and tested wired.
My internet is 120 Mbps. It's getting around that when pc connect directly to the moderm (10,000-14,000 kbyte/s). It's hardly get to 8,000 kbyte/s while connecting through the router (event with only my pc connected to the router).
I've update latest firmware, pc with gigabit port, firewall and other application with the same setting with directly connect to the moderm.
Is there anything I can do to improve the speed?
    Thank you.

What needs to be done ive had an engineer round once he fitted a new faceplate and says that its because bt has capped me and ive phoned the care line twice and theyve told me the same thing they just keep capping me for some reason (i think the  noise speed)

It looks like with your connection problems you are now in a banded profile on 21CN

  • Super slow speed, and for once its not my ISP's fault.....

    Hello friends,
I have the WRTG v6 router and have had no problems with it until the last few days.  Suddenly my connection has become very slow and I am no longer able to play my xbox online without going straight through the modem.  I thought that it may be my ISP, but when I hook up directly to the modem and do a speed test everything is perfect.  I also thought that maybe the computers had some spyware that was slowing things down, but even with both computers powered down the online gaming was still lagging.  So what gives?  Is there a setting somewhere in the router that is slowing things down?   Any info at all is greatly appreciated.

same thing to me, so slow... i regret why i bought  this router. i got no help what so ever

Also can someone link me to the BT BB help line so I can talk to someone about this? All the advice on the website end with "contact your ISP if you need further help" but it doesn't provide any numbers or any links to numbers.
    welcome to the forum
your problem looks different at first glance.  can I suggest you start your own subject and that way replies won't get mixed up between the originator and yourself

  • Slow speeds using airport express 1st generation

I am currently using an airport express 802.11n 1st generation. I have a direct link from my modem to the airport express which provides a wireless connection to 4 other devices, my macbook pro (2009), iphone 5, android phone, and a windows computer.
I have been seeing very variable download speeds when using speedtest.net on both my macbook and iphone. I had just assumed it was my internet provider. However, I tried connecting my macbook directly to my modem using an ethernet cable instead of through the airport express. When I did that I had the full 50 Mb/sec download speed that I am paying for. When I then reconnect the airport express and measure the download speeds through wifi and with all 4 devices connected, I see much slower speeds, anywhere from 4 Mb/sec to 30 Mb/sec, but never the full 50 Mb/sec.
It seems that when my download speeds are really slow and I reset the airport express by just unplugging it and then plugging it back in, the speeds generally seem to improve, but again they usually average around 15 Mb/sec.
Another thing, it seems like the download speeds improve if only 2 devices are connected and not all 4. Yet, this seems unlikely, I would expect that the airport express could handle more than 4 devices!
When I connect with airport utility, the airport express has the latest firmware. I can't think of much else that would cause these slow speeds.
Any help would greatly be appreciated!
    Thanks.

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that appears during these hours that is preventing your 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) from providing a clean RF signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • Slow speeds. As if from no where.

Up until about 2 weeks ago i had a perfectly stable connection with never a problem. Lately thats dissapeared and the internets is loading slower than dial up and i simply CANT play games over the net due to lag. Nothing has changed our end and we contacted bt twice now. The first time they said there were problems in our area then they would be fixed on the 24th and they would call us back the same day. 24th came and went. No phone call and no fix. We phoned up on the 25th. they denied having called us then said we had no problem. We had to argue with them to talk to the persons supervisor who then said he would call us back today at 11... And no phone call. AGAIN.
Please be advised that we were sitting quite happily on 7k Before this happened as we are not far from the nearest depot and never had any problems before. And even doing something as simple as watcing a video on you tube takes 10 mins at least to laod the video. On speedtest . net its showing even lower speeds than shown here.
    Any ideas?
Also a small note. where it says LAtency :fast. with one person on one computer on Warcraft thats totting in at about 1700 ms.

there have been some serious outages all over the country in the last 7/10 resulting in loss of net or slow speeds.
you are connected at 8128 max for adslmax and have the corresponding profile of 7150.  Your throughput is low at 1796 but that should improve - maybe just a busy time and btspeedtester has also been having problems.
Try btspeedtester again tomorrow and see if improved if not post results again

  • Re: Slow Speeds, Please stop us from severing our ...

I currently live in a hamlet approx 3miles from the nearest town and according to Sam Knows.com, approx 4km from the nearest nominated BT Openreach exchange. My current provider Talktalk advise me that it is the length of my line that is the cause of the slow speed, and although fibre will be hitting the exchange in spring 2013, due to me being 4km away will be of no use as BT have chosen to leave copper to the doorstep in place!  My average speed is 0.68mbps (less than 1mb) but as stated in previous posts, I am paying full price as if I was receiving close to 24mbps, and I think this is unacceptable, as it is in nearly all other retail industries so why should ISP's be exempt?? Clearly Talktalk are not to blame, as after all, BT own the lines of most of the UK phones lines, and Talktalk just pay BT.  I have had email correspondance with openreach, and am told it is too expensive for any improvements to be made to the existing line as the population here is so little!  Here I see a multi billion profitable company turning their back on rural britain shame on them.  The old saying, Rome wasn't built in a day, but they got there eventually!  Cutting corners is not the way to go, sewer channels was the way to go according to previous company H20 but that crashed after just 4 years and only served Dundee & Bournemouth, although could of been successful as it is cheaper to lay fibre in that way vs digging up roads.  Sadly, I will soon be cancelling my landline/broadband service as I am fed up of buffering on Video-Audio streaming (even spotify!)
I am led to believe that the goverment are meant to be funding some improvements, but I am sure broadband is bottom of the priority list!

Unfortunately the above posts are true, you allude too BDUK- http://www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/telecommunications_and_online/7763.aspx .
These projects are now being ratified (delayed) by the European Commission. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5355-are-bduk-projects-really-delayed-by-eu-state-aid-rules.html
You might be interested in this scheme, I assume you reside in Devon http://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/ .
    Also this http://www.broadband-notspot.org.uk/map/devon-broadband-notspot.html#8,50.724209,-3.71814,all,2  .
Its hard to recommend other methods of obtaining broadband as you mention Video and buffering, as usage on other methods is no where near as generous as fixed lines, usage is where the meat is!

  • My imac seems to be getting slow on the internet. sometimes its good sometimes it acts up. is there anything that I can do to speed things up ?

my imac seems to be getting slow on the internet. sometimes its good, sometimes it acts up. is there anything that I can do to speed things up ? Is there software available to tune up my imac?

If this is Internet related, the slow downs can be caused by increased user activity on your ISP's server.
The more people on your ISP's server doing things on the Internet, the slower your connection will be.
Is there certain times of the day when you notice  the Internet is slow?
If so, that's probably the reason.
Also, do you share a connection with anyone else? Either on WiFi or Ethernet?
That will slow your connection, too!
Do you know what your Internet download speeds are?
Not a high enough bandwidth and slow downs will be more evident.
If on a WiFi, is the router you are you using 802.11 B, G, or N speeds?
Might be time from a newer, faster router?

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.
