Slow speeds now, has my IP profile been lowered?

My broadband has been fine for the past 2 years with a download speed of average 1.3MBs (1300kbp/s)
There has been absolutely no changes to the environment in the house, no extensions.
My Router is connected to the ADSL filter, connected to the master socket face plate.
On June 2nd around 22:00 BST I noticed very high latency and disconnections on my Broadband.
I did the usually by resetting the router, waiting a couple of minutes are restart. However that didn't fix the issue.
I picked up the house phone and noticed there was a LOT of noise on the dialtone, I tried the 17070 quiet liine test and same again, a lot of noise.
So I called up the BT Broadband helpdesk and spoke to a lady in India, had a long conversation with her running a few line tests and concluding there was no issue on the BT circuit side.
So I decided to leave it and hope for the best that it would fix itself, the next morning latency is fine back to normal (pinging 4.2.2.2 <40ms) and BB is stable with no disconnects.
However my BB speeds appeared to have dropped to about 700kbp/s tops, has BT lowered my IP profile to stabalise the line??
Can someone advise? Here are my stats:

Hmm that's strange, I haven't touched the router and it looks like it may have restarted itself?
Although speeds have increased slightly....

  • ADSL - Slow speed now been stuck at around 28kbps ...

We usually get up to 2.5MB ADSL speeds but at the moment we get around 28k which seems to be consistant and unbearable.
    Or configuration is as follows,
Hub v3 is plugged directly into the master socket.
Phone is on the extension with a filter on the line.
Taking a look in the event log in the BT Home Hub for the last connection we see,
    18:21:08, 07 Apr.
(55036.570000) DSL noise margin: 5.90 dB upstream, 6.20 dB downstream
    18:21:07, 07 Apr.

    6. Bandwidth:
    911 / 280
    7. Data sent/received:
    0.1 / 1.1
To try and remedy this we cycled through the following,
Re-started the hub - no change
Took out the BT Accelerator filter on the master socket, thinking it may be faulty - no change
Changed the filter for another one on the extension phone line thinking it may be faulty - no change
Plugged the Hub directly into the Test Socket - no signal
The broadband speedtest gave the following
"We haven't been able to complete the speed test at this time. This may be due to a problem with the speed tester, or your line may be running very slowly."
    Any other Ideas welcome.
    Thanks,

So I am performing the ultimate Broadband test - Plugging the HUB directly into the test socket with a filter connected between the socket and the HUB.
I reset the router to get a clean start.

Running the Broadband Speedtest produces the following,
“We haven't been able to complete the speed test at this time. This may be due to a problem with the speed tester, or your line may be running very slowly. “
We then ran the following -  http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
    And got,
    Download Speed(Mpbs) 0.13
    Upload Speed(Mpbs) 0.42
    Ping Latency(ms) 0.00
At best we seem to get - Download Speed(Mpbs) 0.25
Connecting directly to the test socket has made no difference. The broadband continues to be abysmally slow.
I would ask BT to kindly reset our profile if indeed this could be done on the line to improve the speed, i will then recheck again?

  • Time machine back up is very slow and now has restarted

Just bought a new 500gb G Drive at the Apple Store to use on my MBP. Got home, connected the drive and launched Time Machine. Said the back would take 10 days . I figured, OK that's slow but at least it will get done. Checked the MBP this AM and now -- after saying there was 2 days left to complete the back up of about 90 gb remaining - it has apparently restarted and now shows only 2gb as backed up.
I ran "sudo tmdiagnose" because I read on one of the other boards here that it would successfully have TM backup at normal speed ... but it did not work.
    Help please...

  • Why has my IP Profile been Changed Downwards?

My DSL Connection rate Downstream has been & still is 4768.
However today my IP Profile has been changed from 4000 to 3500.
This has resulted in a change of IP Throughput from 3619 to 3201.
My Noise Margin has been the same at 5.9 Downstream & 17 Upstream.
Line attenuation has been/still is 48 Downstream & 24 Upstream.
Looking at the Router Traffic Statistics there have been no errors or Drop Outs
In the past the IP Throughput of 3619 has not been great but good enough for my requirements but the drop to 3201 is causing me problems.
    Any ideas why the drop?
    How can it be improved

  • My iPad Air with iOS 8 cannot handle 5g wifi. It works on slower speeds but has worked before I loaded iOS 8.o

My iPad Air running on iOS 8 will not run WiFi at 5G. What is goin on?

I've got just about the same problem, although it "works", to some extend...
For example, if I go onto YT, film will be uploading for ages before stopping, indicating there's no internet connection...
STEP 1 - Am turning flight mode on
STEP 2 -Am turning flight mode off
After A FEW attempts "something" clicks in place, it will upload particular movie, and the internet will work just fine for 5-15minutes. Until it stops in middle of movie, or while browsing. Same rule applies when browsing internet in safari, or for anything else!
After reading this thread I've done the network settings reset. NONE change.
I've done full reset, taking the iPad back to factory status (again). And, surprise there, NONE change....
It was all spot on UNTILL updated to iOS 8... CMON!!! That is just ridiculous considering how much these products cost??? I've bought a nearly 2000£ iMac approx 2 months ago, and I'm AFRAID TO UPDATE ANYTHING after all the carry on with iPhone, and now the iPad that just CAN NOT work as before?? Wont be long before yet another "happy customer" will go back to using PC... Yes, I do prefer Apple, but it just DOESN'T work, recently...

  • Please Raise/Uncap IP Profile - Slow speeds

    Hi Guys,
Up until a week ago I was achieving speeds of between 18-20mb, no issues for
    the past year.
This last week I've been losing connection intermittently. When it does work
    the speed is between 3-5mbs.
The current setup is, a master socket box, with my router plugged in via a
    filter.
Spoke to BT numerous times over the past week, carrying out their tests,
including quite phone line test and plugging my homehub directly into the
master test socket with a filter attached.
I could still here static over the line during this test. Yet still was told
that they can not see a fault on my line, but that the problem is with my
    home wiring.
I have not changed any sockets or wiring in my property, up until a week ago
all was fine. I was not expericing these dreadful disconnects, nor slow
    speeds.
Nevertheless, I understand faceplates and filters have the potential to giveup,
    so I visited maplins.
One by one, I replaced the filter attached to router, tested speed, master
socket faceplate, tested speed and finally the master socket box it'self.
As you can guess, no change in static on phone line, random router
    disconnects or speed.
As the week has gone on, the connection has stablized, only a few line diconnects here & there. Can still hear static, speeds have not budged.
I intend to phone BT again to request an engineer be sent out to test the phone line.
I'm guessing that the cause of the static is a phone line fault at BT's end.
And that my slow speeds are due to this phone line fault (instability), but
also the fact that it looks like my IP profile has been capped. (screenshot
    below).
Screenshots below of tests I carried out before writing this.
I used to acheive speeds of between 16-20mb, my IP Profile can't be right.
Short "Connection time" because of recent disconnect:
All input will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully one of the mods can atleast in the meantime, increase my IP Profile.
    Thank you in advance,
    Y3n

    Hi Y3n,
FTTC SHOULD not be too far away for you, viz :-
Many premises in Fordham are included within the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme. This means that, by the end of 2015, there will be improvements to the broadband infrastructure that will enable many homes and businesses to receive superfast broadband speeds (minimum 24Mbps)* while others will be able to receive fibre broadband speeds of between 2Mbps and 24 Mbps
It is now confirmed that fibre cabinets bringing superfast broadband will be upgraded December 2014 and March 2015. Check our map of cabinets for more information about where the cabinets are located. For more information about Superfast broadband visit our Superfast Question and Answers Page.

  • Upgraded to ADSL2 now get slower speeds than befor...

    Hello
Well last Tuesday my line was upgraded to the 20mb ADSL2 and I was looking forward to some increase in bandwidth (even though before the upgrade my line was pumping 7mb most of the time which I was happy with)
Now for some reason I am getting slower speeds than before I upgraded. Something tells me I should not have bothered with the amount of effort it took to get the upgrade.
I cant understand why my DL is saying 3000+ and before upgrade it was reading 7500+
I have not reset my hub manually all disconnections have been done automatic.
Here are my router stats and I have been reading a few posts and I am hoping someone can shine some light on this for me:

  • I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with their imac fans being extremely loud when running at slow speeds?  When the computer heats up enough for the fans to run at higher speeds they quiet down. New HD fan was just installed.

I have an imac that I've had for a couple years.  The fans have always been loud when running at the slower speeds.  When the computer heats up enough for the fans to run at a higher speed the fans quiet down.  I had installed SMC fan control after multiple attempts with Apple to get the fan issue resolved.  That seemed to keep the fans quiet enough.  I've never had a problem with overheating.  Recently the fans were becoming loud again even running at the slightly higher speeds so I took it to my local Apple store and they replaced the hard drive fan.  I got it back and it's now as loud or louder than ever!!  And, now SMC fan control won't "stick."  The fans will speed up, but then gradually go back to the lower "loud" levels.  I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

    Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week.

  • Repair itunes library (damaged) file. Multiple iTunes libraries on an external harddrive. All libraries have been working fine. Do some "housecleaning" on a one of the large libraries 296GB. iTunes quit and now has damaged file. 296 GB still on HD.

How to repair itunes library (damaged) file. Multiple iTunes libraries on an external harddrive. All libraries have been working fine. Do some "housecleaning" on a one of the large libraries 296GB. iTunes quits and now has damaged file. 296 GB still on HD.

The duplication is unnecessary. Exporting creates a duplicate of the file. So now you'll have a duplicate of a duplicate. Exporting is not "working on" a file.
No it's not merging, it's exporting from one to the Finder and into another. No matter what lose something. If you export the Original you leave behind all the work you've done in iPhoto. If you export anything else, you lose the non-destructive editing and the ability to revert to the original. With merging you preserve that work. Yes, you can trash the old Library when you have completed the manoevre but no it's not the same thing as merging.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue. But in brief:
Current gets you the iPhoto Preview, used for sharing via media browsers. It's a jpg, medium quality missing metadata. Original gets the file you imported, unchanged and then you can export different version of the current version at different qualities. If you choose to export anything except the Original you do not get a Raw. There's no such thing as an "edited Raw", and you lose the connection between the original and the exported version. That means you've taken a non-destructive workflow and turned it into a destructive one.
The Tiff will certainly be higher qulaity and less likely to suffer generational loss in future editing but the file sizes are vast, often more than 10 times the size of the jpeg.
Put it this way, it would be cheaper to buy Library Manager than the disk you'll need to contain all the Tiffs. Unless you plan on a lot of editing, I'd go for a high quality jpeg as a reasonable compromise.
    To be clear:
So, I guess my new question is, how can I edit the Raw image and keep it in a RAW format that IPhoto recognizes so that I can reprocess without any loss at a future time, or is it that once you edit a RAW image, then it is no longer a RAW image?
Once you edit a Raw it can no longer be a Raw. End of.

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
    3.  Reconfigure the TC.........Read here........http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
All really simple to do....if you need additional help let me (us) know.

  • Reset hub and now getting extremely slow speeds...

    Hi there,
So I have had bt broadband for 3 months and had nothing but problems. The speed is very slow, though I do live in a rural area so somewhat to be expected. However in the evenings I have noticed I can get extremely high pings (1000+) and slow speeds (below 0.5 mbps).
Recently however my usual daytime speeds of around 1.2 mbps shot up to around 3 mbps, which to me is quite high! (compared to what I have been getting).
Though it dropped off a bit over the past few days (to around 2.2 mbps) it was still working ok, until last night when I reset my homehub as my sister was unable to connect to it at all.
Since then I have had nearly none existant speeds. Even getting on here was a mission. I am getting speeds of around 0.10 mbps, though my ping seems to vary wildly from around 50 all the way back up to silly numbers.
I attempted to use the bt speed test, but it told me it couldn't get a reading cos my line was too slow!
I did however get one eventually from BT wholesale as below. (it won't let me copy it in?...)
    Download speed (mbps): 0.14

Really getting fed up with the unreliable and slow connection. When added to the problems getting a line installed in the first place (it took 3 months!) and problems I have had in the past, I am seriously looking to see what other options I have, but there aren't many good providers that will set us up out here
Can anyone help me get a stable, reasonably fast connection?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I currently have the hub connected to the master socket via a filter. I have tried on the main socket and master socket with two different filters and nothing changed...
As for the btspeedtester, I was unable to successfully run that...It just says my connection may be too slow (no kidding!)
Finally, regarding the quiet line test...I don't actually have a phone at the moment. I only wanted broadband as I rarely make phone calls from the house and use my mobile. I am looking to get one for the sole purpose of fixing this issue (and ringing bt to have a whinge at them)
    Thanks,
    Richard

    - First try resetting your iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problems persist, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    -  If still problems you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Be patient. Apple just released IOS 6.1 and their servers are inundated with downloads. The network link between you and Apple may also have some undisclosed throughput or latency issues.
I just updated to IOS 6.1 and it took much longer than I expected.
