Slow speeds to ios devices

I have an airport extreme set up, with an express extending the network. I have now seperated the 5ghz network away, so that the express is forced to connect using the 2.4ghz band.
Now using my PC, speeds are generally (not always though) good. but using my iphone or ipad its not so good. Browsing seems to be fine, and airport utility shows around 65mb/s data rate.
But if I start download or update an app, or backup to icloud, or do something a bit more data heavy, it goes very slow.
Now I have noticed that whilst an app is downloading, the data rate will shoot down to around 5mb/s. this will more than likely be the cause, but I dont understand why it drops down.
This only seems to be a problem on the 2.4ghz network, everything seems to be fine on the 5ghz band, but obviously my iphone wont connect to this band, only ipad.
Any help would be great

Anybody any ideas at all?

  • Slow speeds on iOS devices but not on Macbook Air

Have 2 iPads in the house together with 2 iPhones - 1 iPhone still has iOS 6 as a comparison - all the other devices have iOS 7.
Problem is download speeds for all these devices. whilst I get 10-12 mbps on Macbook Air over Wi-Fi, all of the above devices only achieve 3--5mpbs.
Have tried renaming SSID, rebooting router etc but no improvement.
There is no difference between any of the iOS devices in terms of spec. etc.
This has only happened in the last couple of months. I have a speedtest result from the start of October which shows 10+ mbps on iPad, so there was no problem back then.
    Any thoughts gratefully received

    Thanks Texas
I had seen these posts and don't have WMM or QoS on my modem. Have tried making the changes to G and N but this doesn't make much difference.
I was on another wifi network today with the iphone and there was no problem on that, so I know it's something to do with my set up

  • Wifi gone slow on ios devices connected to AEx

I have the current gen airport express which is using both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. i have a mbp mid 2010, ipad mini and iphone 5 connected to it. i assume all the three devices are capable of 5ghz networking. my AE connects to my ISP via pppoe.
i am on a 10 mbps line and i get a full 10 mbps (1.2mBps) on my macbook pro. for some reason iso devices are experiencing a terrible slow down. even the apple tv 3rd gen is experiencing lags. i barely get about 400kbps (50kBps) of speed from the ios devices. this is when there is no active download running on the macbook. i got this app from the mac app store called systempal and it doesn't indicate any activity on the mac.
to confirm if this has nothing to do with the "speed test" app on the devices, i ran the test from different speed testing apps. all reported same results. and the speed test app on an android device on my network reported full download speed!
also, when transfering some movie files to my ipad over wifi from my mac via itunes, the speed was terribly slow. it took about 20 minutes to transfer a 900 mb movie to my app via itunes file sharing.
i have done the usualy troubleshooting like rebooting the devices and the router, resetting the network settings on my devices and resetting the router, etc.
    no go!
    can someone help please?

        Hi JBelcher!
Thanks for troubleshooting your device with Samsung regarding the hotspot and iOS devices. I see that you mentioned you have no problem with Android or Windows devices, and the only issue is with Apple devices.
Have you tried the hotspot in different areas with the iOS devices? Please do so and check the speeds in different areas.
Please also complete a master reset on the Charge and let us know how this works for you. Here's a link on the master reset. http://bit.ly/w21WpW

  • My iCloud drive is slow to save and share Pages documents with my IOS devices

My iCloud drive is slow to update and share my Pages documents with IOS devices.  When I save a document to the iCloud drive I get a Cloud symbol in the Name line (behind the document name) and a bar in the Size column (like it's trying to save the document but is unable to do so).  When I see the document in the document list on the Pages app on my IOS device it has a gray line along the bottom and I can't open the document in the Pages app.

Same for me, too - for the last few days.  Reminiscent of a few weeks back when iTunes and Apple TV ground to a crawl.  Of course Apple system status is green.  After several days it just started working again.  At least with Mac iCloud I have tried to use multiple networks/carriers so now there's no blaming AT&T on this one.
Called support and got the extended wait time message.  Gave up.
Love my devices and software, but Apple really has poor cloud support.  They won't even own up to the issues.  If my employer didn't block dropbox, absolutely done deal I'd be off iCloud back with Dropbox.

  • External SWF slow on iOS device.

Hi! I would like some advice for loading external SWF on iOS devices because it is very slow, and also sometime when I load external SWF there is always message 'Uncompiled ActionScript' showing. Please tell me how to avoid this msg.

This is not Adobe Air limitations. This also affect on any software. Android don't have such issues.
In your case - you can use external assest but only if you link external files as I said above. Adobe Air during compilation will rip source code from SWF and embed it to the app. Your server files can be used for app. Read this more details http://blogs.adobe.com/airodynamics/2013/03/08/external-hosting-of-secondary-swfs-for-air- apps-on-ios

  • Very slow music download with iTunes match on iOS devices

For some time now I experience very slow performance downloading music with iTunes match on my iOS devices.
Downloading music takes ages now. Not so long ago download music with iTunes match was as fast as buying music from the iTunes Store.
I tried to restore my iPhone but nothing changed.
    The download itself is quite fast but after that the blue progress bar is full and the statut is "en cours" (french) something like busy/ongoing in english . The other tracks have a status wating;
Any idea how to solve the issue?
    Thanks

Same here. It seems to be better when the device has been set up from scratch. A delete and restore does not the trick. So I learned to live with it

  • HT1688 My iphone 4 is very slow since the IOS upgrade.  What can I do to bring it back to the speed it was prior to this upgrade ?

My iphone 4 is very slow sine the IOS upgrade.  What can I do to bring it back to the way it was before the upgrade.  It's turtle speed now!

I forgot to mention earlier: if you find that on-screen typing is very slow to register  then you might try logging out of iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings/iCloud/[Delete Account] and Settings/iTunes and App Store/Apple ID [Sign Out]. Then reset the phone (press sleep/wake and home buttons together and hold until Apple logo appears), and then log back into iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings again.

  • Should I create a separate network for iOS devices?

My family and I are leaving the Windows platform and going Mac/Apple.  Here's what we have:
3 iPhones, 2 iPads, new iMac (coming from Santa for the kids), new MacBook Pro 15.4 with retina, Roku 3, and possibly thinking of trying Apple TV (to compare to the Roku).
I have wireless internet through ATT U-verse and their 2Wire router.  I am getting the Airport Time Capsule 2TB today.  My question is...should I setup the airport time capsule as a separate wifi network for all my iOS devices, or should I just extend the current 2WIRE ATT U-verse wireless network?  I think the easiest thing to do would be setup the Airport TC in bridge mode to extend the network.  But I recall reading a blog post where someone set up a separate network on the Airport TC for all his apple products.  This sounded like a great idea because from what I understand, the iOS devices can take advantage of the Airport TC offering a better speed.  Of course, I can't find the article anywhere (Murphy's Law).  My thought is to keep my work laptop (windows) and the Roku 3 on the 2Wire network and the iOS devices on a separate network.
I'm new to apple products (except the phone haha) so what does the community recommend?
    Thanks in advance,
    AC

Would the best solution be to extend my current by network running a cable from the LAN port of the uverse router to the WAN port of the airport time capsule?  This would create another wireless AP, correct?  I simply do what you said...use the same wireless name (SSID), security protocol, and password of the uverse router on the airport time capsule and I'm all set.  But I think the airport utility has an option to "Add to an existing network."  Is this the setup I should choose?  I believe you have reference this kb article in another discussion post.  Thanks again for your help.
This is the way I would do it.. but there is no right and wrong here.. just options with different uses..
    The cable backbone is ideal.
You are creating another AP.. yes.. and that is why it works.. extend by wireless is slow. You are using wireless in one hop connections.
Everything else is running over fast ethernet or gigabit hopefully.
I am not sure if the add to existing network will work correctly.. if you have the TC plugged in by ethernet it should.. but manual setup of this is trivial.
Bridge the TC as per my previous post.. setup wireless exactly as normal but use same ssid and security setup.. simple to the point of trivial.
Roaming I must add is perfect in theory.. in practice stuff doesn't always swap "towers" the way you idealize.. it stays stuck to the poorer signal when a better one is right next to it.
That is the nature of wifi. A voodoo technology.. 80% black arts. and 50% science.. (in voodoo it has poor maths).

  • Extremely slow speeds on Windows Computers with 5th Generation AirPort Extreme

I just got a new refurbished AirPort Extreme 5th generation. Everything works great for all of my OS X devices and iOS Devices. I am getting my ISPs speeds when doing tests. The issue is when I am using Windows devices. My roommate has a desktop and a netbook and both are getting extremely slow speeds. Speeds like .07Mbps down. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be?

You have no large file?? Really.. in the whole computer there is not a windows update file.. a backup file... a movie download file.. nothing.. ??
Anyway that is irrelevant.. the issue is wireless.
Download the latest drivers from the wireless manufacturer.
You will need to find out what wireless card is used and locate the correct download for that model.
On the Airport it is well worth doing the following tests.
    1. Change the name to SMB standard.. short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
So if your wireless name is Fred Blog's Airport Extreme wireless
    Plesae change it to AEwifi
    2. Take off all security for a test.
    3. Set channels.. I am guessing the computers are only using 2.4ghz, so set 11,6, 1 in that order.
No improvement.. just put the security back to WPA2 Personal with pure alphanumeric password..
Try and test new drivers and use no firewalls on the computer.. ensure that the computer is correctly set for home network.
Beyond that it is just incompatible.

  • AIR 2.6 performance on iOS devices

When I first tried iOS packager it looked too raw and slow to use in real applications. But the technology was very promising and product was obviously far from release. A new version of AIR (2.6) was released recently and it is claimed that performance on iOS devices was improved. I downloaded new AIR SDK and repackaged sample iOS application. However, I wasn't able to detect any significant performance boost. In fact, application seemed to work even slower on iPad. What is weird, I could see some speed increase on iPhone 4. But neither execution performance on iPad, nor on iPhone is not even close to the execution speed of the same application (although packaged with AIR 2.5) on Android device (Galaxy Tab). I can imagine that Android packaging could work for me. But execution on iOS devices is definitely too slow so far. Btw, I use Flash Builder Burrito and Flash Hero SDK with new mobile flex components for the development.
The question is, what is your experience with AIR 2.6 iOS packager? Any significant increase in performance? Are there any special steps required to turn on iOS performance optimization in builder or packager?
I'm going to try AIR 2.6 Android packager next. Will post an update when done.

sorr for the dupe, but i already posted this in the iOS packager forum:
the one big  advantage with 2.6 publishing is, that the app behaves as it should when  it comes to moving objects performance slowdown.
Before performance  would break down in strange ways if I inserted too many moving objects  in my sandbox. Now the framerate just goes down when raising  the  objects count.
If you want, check out the video of my proto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE56XCG06FM
Same principle as with FlashKevin. Just Sprites and scripting no timeline stuff, one enterframe thats handles all the object controllers. GPU accelerated.
You absolutely have to use cacheAsBitmapMatrix or else Sprites/Bitmaps will look jaggy and performance just sucks bigtime. I am also setting cacheAsBitmap = true.
I had some bad performance, when i packaged a project that ran fine with the old packager due to a stage scaling issue.
Performance  on the ipad seemed to be really bad when publishing a iPhone project  without "stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE"  with 2.6.
I am actually pretty happy with this release (at the moment).

  • Why are the songs in my itunes library playing at slow speeds?

Why are the songs in my library playing at slower speeds? They sound likean old casette player with rundown batteries?

    What are your hardware specs?
    OS, version of iTunes, etc....
Is this on a computer or iOS device?
iPods can change the playback speeds, but in iTunes on desktop/laptop, it could be caused by other programs.

  • Extremely slow speeds on EAP-TTLS PAP secured network

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip and when I connect to my schools network I get speeds that are as low as 100 K/s or slower.
When I go to speedtest.net I get speeds of 10 M/s down. I have tried using both the B43 and wl drivers and I get about the same speed on speed test and still very slow speeds when updating through pacman or downloading files.
I am running the most recent versions of the kernel and all drivers.
Here is the output from lspci:
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
If you guys have any ideas of what might help I'm willing to try it, thanks in advance.

Visited the Apple store today and they replaced the phone. They could not explain what was going on except for being a software issue.
They said if after restoring I have the same issue, you would have to restore the phone to new and re-install all apps and information manually from scratch.
I restored the phone from my backup, and all went well. No more slow LTE speeds, plus a new device.
The only thing I can think of that may have happened is updating carrier settings while updating the iOS at the same time. I thought it was normal because iTunes popped up the carrier update notification a few seconds later after starting the iOS 8 update.
The carrier update did have an option to cancel. I will definitely wait for the iOS update to complete before I update carrier settings next time.
I'm just wondering if my phone was out of warranty, and this happened, would Apple still replace the device?

  • Using small iOS device to give presentations?

I am considering buying a refurbished iPod Touch from Apple to (1: replace my aging iPod, (2: allow mobile access to the internet, and (3: to facilitate delivery of business presentations while on-the-road. To wit:
As you can see from the listings below, I have access to useful hardware and software. I am writing this to seek advice on how to leverage these tools to give business (and personal) presentations while I'm on-the-road and may (or may not) be carrying hardware with me. If I'm forced to travel light, I was wondering if simply taking a thumb drive and/or using my iCloud account may be enough.
I work for a small construction business that does projects in eight surrounding counties. I work as a "Producer", which means I'm both an office manager (writing up contracts and job estimates, arranging business with customers, contractors and suppliers over-the-phone) and a project manager (working with those same business contacts in-person on remote project sites). I am also applying for work outside of our business, and want to be able to use visual aids if/when necessary to illustrate what I do during an interview.
I recently started taking a Lynda.com course on "Setting Up Your Mobile Office to Work from Anywhere", and it got me to thinking about how I could use iCloud and Apple's iWork apps to create business presentations that could be played in a variety of portable scenarios. My goal is to be able to travel light and still be able to make presentations to individuals or groups.

iWork 2009 (including Keynote 5.3, Pages 4.3, and Numbers 2.3)
    Microsoft Office 2011: Mac
Final Cut Studio 3, including Final Cut Pro 7
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 8
    iCloud account, free-tier service

    OTHER HARDWARE AVAILABLE
white MacBook 2006 vintage, 1.83 GHz Intel processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard disk, SuperDrive, MacOS 10.6.8, iLife 2011, iWork 2009, Microsoft Office 2011 (MacBook is not my machine; used by someone else in my office. This computer has battery issues; it must be plugged into AC power.)
Epson EX7200 projector, with USB thumb-drive port (for JPEG presentations), VGA port, and HDMI port.
Scenario #1: If I prepared a Keynote presentation on my iMac and transferred it via WiFi or thumb drive to the old MacBook, do I need to copy just a single Keynote file over and that's it? No attached files or folders with files in them?
Scenario #2: I have successfully, in the past, used the Epson projector and a thumb drive loaded with photos and also a USB camera card reader with an SD card attached to show simple JPEG photo slideshows. If I wanted to just use the Epson's USB port to show Keynote slideshows, they would have to be stored in folders as JPEG files. How easy is this to prepare with Keynote? Are there any pointers available on designing a useful workflow for preparing such slideshows without a lot of fuss?
Scenario #3: Forget the projector; too much bulk. If I had just a small iOS device like an iPod touch, and I wanted to plug into someone else's projector (or if I wanted to just show a slideshow of images to one person with no projector) what do I need to be prepared for, hardware-wise? What do I need to do with Keynote, both on the iMac for production and on the iOS device to make it look right?
Scenario #4: Let's say I'm going to carry everything on a USB thumb drive as a backup. What is the best way to set it up to play on someone else's hardware? (I assume three tiers of compatibility: I do network with Mac/iOS users, so Tier #1 would be Apple compatibility with Keynote. Tier #2 would be general compatibility with Microsoft Office 2003/4 for pre-XML file formats. I guess that Tier #3 would be general-purpose PDF files, or maybe the JPEG file approach with thumb drive ports on projectors.) If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm plugging my thumb drive into someone else's MacBook, are there any pointers to avoid font conflicts or other issues? If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm borrowing someone else's iPad to show a slideshow, how do I get the files off of a thumb drive to show on the iPad?
Scenario #5: ** iCloud ** Let's say I'm traveling VERY light, and I want to give a presentation that's stored on my Apple iCloud account. How can I organize files and folders so that Tier #1, #2 and #3 files are available (assuming I have an internet connection) so I can play a presentation off someone else's hardware, be it a tablet or laptop. Is there anything I should know about how to prepare this and how to reliably be able to log-in and access my iCloud files? Are my iWork 2009 apps going to function in preparing and saving presentation files with my iCloud account?
Scenario #6: Scenario #6 is Scenario #5, but substituting another service instead of iCloud, like maybe Google Drive. Is there any way to set up an account with files so I can reliably be able to access said files for a presentation?

    - For #1 post in the iWorks for Mac form. My only concern is the older version of Keynote on the MacBook reading the files from the newer version of Keynote used to create the presentation.
    - For #2 it depends upon the projector. Form you description, the projector can only read/present photos on a thumb drive. Keynote will do nothing for that.
    - For #3 depending upon the model iPod you can get an adopter cable that connect to projector/TV
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108
You can post in the iWoks for iOS forum for more help. Note that some feature in Keynoted prepared on a Mac will not oresent exactly like made when present in Keynote on an iOS device
    - For #4 post in the iWorks for Mac forum
    - For # 5 post in the iWorks for iOS forum
    - For #6 posting in a Google forum may be best

The above is what the bar says. It's been a while and wondered, maybe Apple changed the format for forums. Then got this nice big blank canvas to air my concerns. Went to school for Computer Science, BSEE, even worked at Analog Devices in Newton Massachusetts, where they make something for apple.
The bottom line is fast CPU = more FPU = more headroom and still can't figure out why the more cores= the slower it gets unless it's to get us in to a 6 core then come out with faster cores down the road or a newer Mac that uses the GPU. Also. Few. I'm the guy who said a few years ago Mac has an FCP that looks like iMovie on Steroids. Having said that I called the campus one day to ask them something and while I used to work for Apple, I think she thought I still did as she asked me, "HOW ARE THE 32 CORES/1DYE COMING ALONG? Not wanting to embarrass her I said fine, fine and then hung up.  Makes the most sense as I never quite got the 2,6,12 cores when for years everything from memory to CPU's have been, in sets of 2 to the 2nd power.  2,4,8,16,32,64,120,256,512, 1024, 2048,4196,8192, 72,768.  Wow. • I've update iOS devices to 8.0 and now need to update xCode, but keep getting "unknown error -50" leaving me with a non-working internet connection - the only fix seems to be reboot of both iMac and router - any ideas?

Having updated all my iOS devices to iOS 8.0 I now need to update xCode to match. I've tried several times, and on each occasion have received an "unknown error -50" message after getting about 500Mb. After this my internet connection appears to be fully occupied, and the only fix appears to be a reboot of both the iMac (2.5GHx Core i5, 4Gb RAMm OS X 10.9.5) and the router (Netgear DG834 v5, firmware 1.6.01.34) At first I thought that the error had not stopped the download, but after waiting for 30 minutes the connection was still unresponsive, though traffic was indicated as passing through but the router status page, and no additional content had been added to the download. Anyone else having a similar problem and different ideas as to fixing it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
