Slow Speeds Trouble Downloading Files via Software Update (more)

I completed an OS update from 10.4.11 to 10.5 Leopard. I now have a bunch of problems. We have gone through all our settings from 10.4.11 and all are correct.
1. Slow web page access with 10.5
2. Very erratic downloading from Software Update and from the web. Email transfers are fine. Odd.
3. No longer able to port forward from Airport. I do the port forward but can't access my home server from outside our private network. Some times that does not even work.
4. We have tried Web Sharing , Abyss Web server, and our normal Server MAMP. None work outside the private network.
5. All server functions have worked flawless since OS X originally came out.
6. Nothing changed before our switch to Leopard.
7. We still have two computers using 10.4.11 and they can download lickity split with no hickups.
8. I am at my wits end on this issue and after all our testing feel it is a Leopard issue and nothing else.
9. My service provider has stated that others that upgraded to Leopard are having problems too. Seems like this should be looked into post hast from Apple.
10. Sorry to say but I must revert back to my last OS and reinstall and re-upgrade to 10.4.11 and try to make my stuff work again.
11. I have tried starting yesterday afternoon to download the newest update for Leopard and I have only been able to get 355MB from a total of 536MB download. The down load just chokes up and quits after a few megs and then I must try to restart the download and it may go 20 megs then choke or may not even go. I do this a few times until I get movement and then it will choke again. I keep doing this again and again. It is consistent with Leopard.
12. I even did a complete pure clean install and the problem still persists.
13. Come on Apple, get with it and get this problem fixed. Folks will move away from Leopard in droves if you don't move on this one.

Hi
The SUS Admin Manual is clear on what format the SUS Service can use and it can't use manually downloaded dmgs. Furthermore AFAIK there is no way (if there is ever likely to be) you can convert downloaded dmgs of Updates to a format SUS can recognise and more importantly use.
You should consider purchasing ARD and use that to 'push' out manually downloaded updates instead. You can purchase ARD from the App Store.

Where can I find the a downloaded file by Software update?
For example is there any way to find a package which is downloaded but is not installed(because the installation failed) (in this case 10.5.5) and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.

Failed installs usually remove the package, just as a proper install removes the package
All that remains for a proper installation is a Receipt in on of the following directories:
    ~/Library/Receipts (for user-specific installs)
    Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts
for system-wide installations, including OS-X updates.
and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.
If it did not install, there is no Receipt and the downloaded file is not on your system
If you don't want to see it again in automatic updates, put it on ignore.

  • Password not accepted when trying to download upgrades via Software Update

I haven't been able to download the latest versions of Safari, Quicktime, Java for Mac OS X 10.4, etc. because when I attempt to do so, my password isn't accepted in the verification dialog.
I am 100% positive I'm using the correct password.
What is causing this? How do I fix it?
    Replies appreciated.

  • Firefox 3.6.15 is not downloading on MAC OSX, not via software update nor via manual download. It claims i do not have full admin rights which is not true.

If I do a manual download via FF website, it starts to install, asking if I want to replace an older version of FF. If I then continue, it says that it cannot process as I do not have access to 'certain components'????
I have full admin rights, it is f... my computer. I am running a Macbook Pro on OSX 10.6.6.
FF is giving me more problems lately, a.o. not showing certain flash elements (have latets flashplayer). Anyone else getting annoyed with FF?

I eventually did an archive and install to get 10.4.7 installed on my MBP the last time around. Now 10.4.8 is doing the same thing. Neither via Software Update nor manual downloads of Intel delta or combo updaters will apply. Arg!
Has anyone else seeen this? I've tried applying the update while booted regularly and also in safe boot to no avail.

    Hi there,
If you go to the Apple equivalent of: Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (sorry am a mere PC user )
If there is a file titled iphone1,22.1_5F136Restore then try deleting it and then running iTunes without your iPhone attached.
Go to the menu and select Help/Software Updates which should then notify you that there are updates and allow you to download them in advance of restoring.
Hopefully this will download the update. Once completed attach the iPhone and restore.
Hopefully this might sort your issue out.
    Ciao

  • Itunes 10.4 won't install on 10.6.8 via software update

everything is in the titel, won't update via software update and regular download on the apple website

From the Apple website; requirements for iTunes 20.4:
Mac OS X version 10.5 or later. See image below.
So it WILL run on 10.5, 10.6, and Lion which is 10.7.
That is why is shows up under "software update" on 10.6 computers.
The problem is with the installer on some computers.
I went to an Apple Store and a Genius had to us the "root" administrator account to install iTunes 10.4. It is a hidden administrator account.
So go to an Apple store or call Apple Care if you are still under warranty.

  • I just downloaded a new software update to my ipod touch and now my ipod is frozen with a screen picture of music round blue symbol and an arrow displaying a cable connection. I received a message saying that the download was not successful.

I just downloaded a new software update to my ipod touch and now the ipod and screen are frozen. I received a message that the download was not successful and now my screen is showing the blue round itunes symbol with an arrow pointing to the symbol and shows a cable below it. I have tried the restart of pushing the two buttons together and waiting 10 seconds for the apple symbol which appears and then go backs to the same stuck symbol. My computer is not recognizing the ipod either and will not connect. What needs to be done?  Thanks.

Try manually placin the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.
Next try DFU mode and restore

  • No 10.4.7 update via Software Update nor manually for MBP

Via Software Update, I have applied the 10.4.7 update to a variety of machines, but, for some reason I have yet to determine, my MBP will a) not "find" the updated via Software Update to date and b) upon downloading both the intel Combo and Delta updaters manually, the installer returns this error:
"You cannot install Mac OSX Update Combined (Intel) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I have rebooted, cleared caches, repaired permissions, ran DFA, etc. I removed some items from the Login Items area of my account in the Accounts pref pane. I have removed a launchd User Agent I created with Lingon. Each subsequent attempt check to Software Update says, "no new software" and each attempt to install manually results in the aforementioned error.
On this particular MBP, I have 2 partitions; my primary, large, daily use partition and a smaller, "rescue" partition with a functional OS on it. Running the manual installer allows me to select (and, sucessfully update) the "rescue" partition (which I did do). I booted from the "rescue" partition and, when selecting my primary partition during a manual update via the Combo or Delta installers, get the same error as mentioned earlier. So, booting from an entirely different "drive", I get the same error.
I also downloaded the combo version of the 10.4.6 installer thinking I may have a busted component somewhere preventing the recognition of this laptop as an elligible candidate for 10.4.7. It returns the same, exact error I get trying to manually apply the 10.4.7 Combo/Delta updates.
During my installation attempts, the drive has had upwards of 14GB free. I did apply the MBP 15" firmware update that was released a while back.
The Quicktime 7.1.2 update was recognized as available via Software Update and I installed it with no problems.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • HT1414 How do I download iOS 5 Software update?

Please how do I download iOS 5 Software update if I'm not ready to update via iTunes?

I have a job, so I don't hang your every word as soon as you post a reply to a thread in which I've participated. Now I've read your other post correcting the fact that I put 6.0.2 as the latest version of iPhone software I won't refer to the version specifically any more.
So, is iOS 5 available for download?
I find you very aggresive in your approach and if it continues, I will more than likely only ask questions on here rather than trying to assist others.
I have better things to do and I'm just trying to help.

  • I updated to 10.7.3 via Software Update

I updated to 10.7.3 via Software Update yesterday. Today, on visiting the App Store, it says there is an update still (to 10.7.3), not acknowledging the recent update that has been applied. Should I ignore it and wait until the next update, and do it via App Store instead? Or ignore it, and update via Software Update (as per normal)? I undestand there were some problems for some people who updated via the App Store to 10.7.3.
    A puzzled Tim
(Not a 'newbie, but an owner of various Macs since version OS 7.5)

I don't know if you can. But, seems you have the latest. So Apple changed it in software update also.
I went to the Apple Store to see if showed any updates for me, and it didn't. Maybe it's a glitch, but I wouldn't worry about it as long as things are working correctly.
Also opened Software Update in System Preferences and checked for installed software. It shows both the Software Updated OS update and the Combo Update I downloaded and reinstalled afterwards.

  • I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

Depending upon how extensive your library of legacy Microsoft Office data files are, you may want to consider continuing to use Microsoft Office 2004.
Microsoft Office's 2011 version is compatible with Lion and presumably either works with Mountain Lion or an update will make it so.  The problem with this approach is that Office 2011 will "convert" your earlier data files and there lies the rub!  For example, I have the need to weekly open a chart created in Excel 2004, but Excel 2011 trashes the chart in its "conversion."
So I have approached the overall problem differently.
The reason your applications do not work in Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006.  When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So for those of use that need to run Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:

    And now Mountain Lion:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions into Parallels 7 are here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
Snow Leopard is $29 and Parallels 7 is $79 retail (cheaper from competitive sources) and Parallels offers a 14 day free trial of Parallels 7 on their website:

Well I am having the same issue and I had not had to worry about getting a "licensed charger."  The poster who responded offered not real insite and was rude to boot.  I am also looking for the fix on this .  My iphone will not even charge now on any charger.  What the heck.  I am not trying to treaten anyone either when I say I am frustrated with my iphone which in my case I have only had for a few months.  I have already sent one in to be replaced and this is my second one.  I have had troubles since the update GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR .

  • Where can I manually download itunes and software updates

I am having problems downloading itunes and software updates. I understand that I need to do these manually but from where?
The problem as explained to me is that auto updates will not work and are showing as no connection available due to the latency with my satellite connection.
Apple auto updates are configured for US high speed internet and show no connection due to latency with sat connection.
Drives me crazy but have no other option available to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Apple updates failing (via Software Update and Manual .dmg) but other installs complete.

    Hello,
Currently on an iMac 3.06 Core 2 Duo, 10.6.8
All the current updates in my Software Update (iTunes 10.6.1, Java Update 7, Safari 5.1.5) will not install, and will not install via manual .dmg download either. Other NON apple updates/installs I download will install via the installer just fine.
I've done the usual permissions repair from current disk utility version, as well as persmissions and disk repair via boot from install disk. Rebooted, no changes.
Console keeps showing similar errors as follows:
    4/7/12 4:34:12 PM
    installd[987]
Package Authoring Warning: Will not do obsoleting for package com.apple.pkg.update.softwareinstallerupdate.1.0 because it contains unsafe bundles.
I'm pretty stumped. I have a 1tb drive, and there is 60gb free. If this was a disk space issue, I would assume other updates would fail also.
    Thoughts?

Same issue. Mid summer went to update Aperture, got to the "Moving items into place" and just stayed there. Then, when all the update for Mountain Lion came out, same thing with iPhoto's update. Tryed the .dmg's, same thing. Many hours on phone, established a second administrator account, checked out the HD's status, still the same. Booting into Safe Boot allowed the installation(s) to complete, but not a great solution. I thought that this was my machine, but my wife's near identical 13" MBPro did the same thing yesterday when she tried via Software Update. Again, Safe Boot allowed the installations to complete.
One thing, it seems only to happen on Apple's graphics or "lifestyle" apps ... iWork went OK, but Aperture, iPhoto, iMovie are the ones that seem to hang. Maybe that can help diagnose this. For what it's worth, I think the problem is something gone amiss in Apple's installers for some of these programs.
