Slow Stabilize Motion. Any better Premiere plugins?

When I press Proceed Forward after setting my tracking points etc in the Stabilize Motion box in AE, the process proceeds at an extremely slow rate - a few frames per minute. Then, after a while, it picks up, starts playing the video in slow motion, but stops moving around the tracking points. When it does this, the confidence metre is at 100% - even though in reality the feature box has gone off, sometimes way off. And then AE is really slow to responding to my pressing Stop.
I'm running a high-performance machine; Premiere runs great. I realize video playback in AE, which is not optimized for it (that's another thing - even when I turn down the playback res it still says it's not playing back at full 29.97 fps), is maybe gonna be worse, but we're talking molasses slow here with the Stabilize Motion function. I'm trying to get Adobe to upgrade me to 5.5 so I can use the Warp Stabilize function, but so far I'm disappointed with AE's performance, and disappointed with the results of the Stabilize Motion even when it works well (I'm dealing with shaky camera footage). In my old Premiere (circa 2004 - cs2, I guess?) there was a 2d3 Motion stabilizer effect that you could just apply directly to the video. This plugin was a demo, but it worked like a charm - much better results with a few clicks than what I got out of AE after several long attempts.... Apparently 2d3 doesn't offer this for Premiere anymore - or not at least, anyway, without a chunk of money. Well, I just blasted a big chunk of money into the CS5 Production Premium. Maybe I am just impatient with AE stabilization's higher learning curve, but I'm disappointed that Premiere CS5 doesn't have a comparable function as the old Premiere did - a function which was damned easy. Any advice?

The larger the search area the slower the tracker will run. Make sure you're not tracking more than you need to track. In most cases you'll get a better and a much easier to work with track if you use Mocha. It comes with AE and there are a bunch of tutorials out there on how to use it.
Mocha is a planer tracker, AE's tracker is a point tracker. Both have their advantages, but there's nothing that I have found that will track or stabilize with AE's tracker that can't be tracked more accurately in Mocha.

  • Garageband struggling with Plugins. Is Logic going to be any better?

    Hey all
Ive got what I thought was a pretty decent iMac (3.06 GHz INtel Core 2 Duo - 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 - 500GB with 120GB of free space) for DAW music production, but Garageband is seriously stuggling and becomes so very slow when I use plugins with it.
Does anyone know if Logic handles plugins any better/quicker?
I'm only running a couple of plugins on a couple of tracks.
    Thanks

    It depends on the plugin.
The plugins that come with Logic run very efficiently with it. Some 3rd party plugins are CPU hogs.
It's not a Garageand vs. Logic thing, it really boils down to the plugin and, of course, your computer.

  • Is there any better option than this slow query?

    Hi all,
i want to find out lets say Ticekt no range from Variable1 - Variable 2, are all ready existed or missing from my ticket master table which is having a million records and the no grows timely.
For example i want to find out in range 30000 - 50000
if any missings it should give missing number are
    34567
    45678 etc . etc.
i wrote a for.. loop and im checking one bye one from ticket master table using select count(*) from ticket_master where ticket_no = var, which is time consuming and server becoming slow when i issue this query. my ticket master ticket_no is indexed.
    any better idea advise please..

I am not sure I understand your problem correctly.
    Here are some test datas:
    create table ticket_masters ( ticket_no number) ;
exec for i in 1..1000 loop insert into ticket_masters values (round(i/0.97)); end loop
    select 200-1+rownum missing from ticket_masters where rownum<=300-200

    select ticket_no from ticket_masters where ticket_no between 200 and 300

Could you please do a desc ticket_masters to show me your datatype and also select a few ticket_no

  • Since i have downloaded the new IOS 8 my ipod touch 5G has been much slower, is there any way to downgrade and get the MUCH better IOS 7 back?

I have recently downloaded the new IOS 8 and it has made my Ipod much slower.
is there any way to get IOS 7 back or a way to speed up IOS 8?

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Time stretch to slow down motion

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 7. When I use the time stretch to slow the motion down, my final motion is very "jerky". Any way to smooth that out a bit better?
    Thanks,

How does the Slo-mo footage look in Preview?
Also remember that you are basically doubling the number of Frames.
This might also be of use for improving the results:
Set field options for imported interlaced video
In most video, each frame consists of two fields. One  field contains the odd‑numbered lines in the frame, and the other contains the  even‑numbered lines. The fields are interlaced, or  combined, to create the complete image. Adobe Photoshop Elements includes a  reverse field order preset for video imported from a hard disk or Flash memory  camcorder that uses upper fields first. If your footage was captured with  reverse order fields (upper fields first), make sure your project uses either  the Standard or Widescreen preset from the Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders  presets folder. (See Create or change project  presets.)
Ordinarily, interlacing isn’t apparent to a viewer. But because each field  captures the subject at a slightly different moment in time, playing a clip in  slow-motion, creating a freeze frame, or exporting a frame as a still image  makes the two fields discernible. To avoid this, you can deinterlace the image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and  either duplicates or interpolates the lines of the remaining field.
Reversing the field dominance, the order in which the  fields are recorded and displayed, may also cause playback problems. When the  field dominance is reversed, motion appears jerky because the fields no longer  appear in chronological order. Fields can become reversed when the field  dominance of the original videotape is the opposite of the field dominance of  either the video‑capture card used to capture the clip or the video‑editing or  animation software that last rendered the clip. Reversing can also happen when  you set an interlaced clip to play backward.
To avoid these complications, you can deinterlace the  image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and either duplicates or interpolates  the lines of the remaining field. You can also set field options for an  interlaced clip so that the clip’s picture and motion quality are preserved in  situations such as changing the clip speed, exporting a filmstrip, playing a  clip backward, or freezing a video frame.
Select a clip in the Timeline, and choose Clip >  Video Options > Field Options.
Select Reverse Field Dominance to change the order in  which the clip’s fields appear. This option is useful when the field dominance  of the clip doesn’t match your equipment or when you play a clip  backward.
For Processing Options, select one of the following  choices, and click OK.
    None
Does not process the clip’s fields.
    Interlace Consecutive Frames
Converts pairs of consecutive progressive‑scan (noninterlaced) frames into  interlaced fields. This option is useful for converting 60‑fps progressive‑scan  animations into 30‑fps interlaced video because many animation applications  don’t create interlaced frames.
    Always Deinterlace
Converts interlaced fields into whole progressive‑scan frames. Adobe  Premiere Elements deinterlaces by discarding one field and interpolating a new  field based on the lines of the remaining field. It keeps the field specified in  the Field Settings option in the Project Settings. If you specified No Fields,  Adobe Premiere Elements keeps the upper field unless you selected Reverse Field  Dominance, in which case it keeps the lower field. This option is useful when  freezing a frame in the clip.
    Flicker Removal
Prevents thin horizontal details in an image from flickering by slightly  blurring the two fields together. An object as thin as one scan line flickers  because it can appear only in every other field.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Woes dealing with stabilize motion

    Hi everyone:
I've been fighting with this 30s video, trying to stabilize the motion to no success. Take a look at the screenshot. The cameraman went around the camouflaged guy and the footage is somewhat rough. I've been trying to use the built in tracker but I can't seem to find two spots on him to track it all around 360 degrees in one sweep. I also tried to change track points to new ones (in a mid-point of the clip) but what happens is that the resulting track makes the footage jump to a new scale and rotation once that happens.
Are there any ideas how to stabilize motion on this footage?
PS. Eventually I will need to rotoscope this guy too

Mylenium, you're the man! I stabilized it with your support. Take a look at the screenshot:
    http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s99/dc2000_bucket/stabilize_2_guys.jpg
I looked at the picture and saw that the bottom of the blue guy's jacket is always in the shot and that it is shaped in some sort of an oval. So I created an oval rotating 360 degrees, pushed it back in 3D space and used your suggestion on how to convert its anchor point (or the center) into a 2D coordinate (red dot):
[From a position of a layer for the bottom red dot - 2D layer. "Ellipse" is a 3D layer]
    thisComp.layer("Ellipse").toComp(thisComp.layer("Ellipse").transform.anchorPoint)
The top point was the track on top of his head (as I described above). And, that's it. I stabilized the footage using those two points (with the same expression as above for the tracker) and it now looks 100 times better.
    So thanks again!!!

  • Can I use canon eos40d for stop motion capture in premiere elements 9?

I Want too do stop motion capture but when I click get media, the pop up dialog box proceeda as if to import still photos. How do I get the "capture panel" that is talked about where I can select stop motion?  Is premiere elements 9 supposed to work with a still camera like mine for stop motion at all?   Thanks!!'  Kimberley

Thanks for the reply. This is my take on the situation that you describe.
    You wrote
The camera was linked to PC with USB cable and then the software showed on the PC what would normally be in the camera viewfinder.  The enter key on the PC worked as a shutter release and onion skinning worked.  Can premiere elements do this?
That more or less describes the Premiere Elements Webcam experience if Premiere Elements recognized the Webcam.
If you have made a USB connection between the Canon 40D and the computer and you are not getting a Capture Window when you use Premiere Elements' Add Media Webcam or WDM compatible device, then Premiere Elements does not support that simple route. It is my understanding that WDM compatible device represents Windows Driver Model (a framework for device drivers).
I have done some Google searching, and I have found instance where claims have been made for the Canon 40D as a webcam. I post one of these links for informational and non promotional purposes.
    http://extrawebcam.com/
Have you explore any utilities that came with the Canon that might supply drivers for the Canon as a webcam?
Have you tried to use the Canon 40D as a webcam with Windows Movie Maker?
Please review and consider. (Also, 9.0.1 Update can be downloaded and installed from the project's Help Menu/Update or obtained online from

  • I have iMac and need a good photo editing program to use.  Reviews say aperture runs really slow with Lion, any suggestions?

I need a program where I can remove objects and touch up dead grass, etc.

Reviews say Aperture runs really slow with Lion, any suggestions?
To add on to Corky02 answer:
The recent Aperture release AP 3.3.x is very efficient, both on Lion and Mountain Lion. But you need a decent hardware to support it. The older Macs will have problems with the storage and CPU requirements. For good performance on large raw images plenty of RAM is important, at least 4GB, but 8GB would be much better, and your library should be on a fast disk, preferably on an internal drive. And don't let the system drive get too full.
Many reports about Aperture being slow are due to putting the Aperture library onto slow disks or acessing  the original image files over the network, insufficient RAM, or corrupted or  ill-designedAperture databases.
Aperture excels at all kinds of image processing that can be considered image developement - raw processing and color/lighting adjustments, but does not do compositing. If you are shooting raw and want professional image developement I'd recommend to do this in Aperture and not in iPhoto - you will have much more control over this in Aperture (after a steep learning curve). You can also  repair and retouch the image to correct minor blamishes. For graphics compositing and inpainting you can set up an external editor and send your images from Aperture to this external editor - any of the editors Corky recommended would be o.k. for this.
To see, if you will want the advanced image processing in Aperture or the easy to use, more basic options in iPhoro will be sufficient to you have a look at the Aperture User manual, or the tutorial on the support page: Aperture Support
But Aperture is a professional apllication, not "plug and play". You should only consider it, if you are willing to spend some time on learning to use it properly and are willing to work your way through the manual.

  • Firefox 4 is extremely slow to perform any function on my lap top compared to previous versions. Why? And how do I change this!

Firefox 4 is extremely slow to perform any function on my lap top compared to previous versions. Why? And how do I change this!

Firefox 21 and Firefox 22 running on Windows 7 have been reported to take a long time to "wake up" from sleep. I realize hibernation is different than sleep, but... this is the closest match for your description.
Some users have reported that this problem is resolved in Firefox 23 (currently in beta). Others have had inconsistent luck with minimizing Firefox before letting Windows sleep and other measures.
Please check out this (very long) thread for more information: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961898 browser freezes after resuming from sleep]
Or jump to the part about Firefox 23: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961898?page=3#answer-457321
The fact that this just started recently suggests perhaps it is related to another program or update, but I don't think anyone has confirmed the exact interaction that causes the problem.

  • "Stabilize motion" feature question

I'm learning how to use the "stabilize motion" feature in After Effects CS5. When I press the "analyze forward" button, the "analyzing" process gets slower and slower as it progresses to the point that it kind of stops... It took me almost an hour to "analyze" this 19 seconds footage!!! So is there a way I can make this process go faster?? By the way, the video I'm testing this feature on is 1920 x 1080 and my RAM is 8 GB, Windows 7.
Please bear with the newbie! Thanks.

Experiment with less demanding video like DV and less movement. Precompose your footage into a smaller composition like 400x300 pixels.
Stabilize works well and is fun to use in different ways but it's not a no-brainer.

  • IMAQ Resample performance. Any better choice for 50% downsample? (average 2x2 - 1 pixel)

My video source is a 4 Mpixel (2k x 2k resolution) USB3 camera. This is displaying a live image OK in Labview at 45 fps using only 20% CPU.  So far, so good.
I added a "IMAQ Resample" block to downsize this to 1024 x 1024 image. That works with almost no additional processing time if I select "Zero Order" interpolation (eg. plain subsample to value of nearest pixel). However, I want to average each 2x2 block (4 pixels) in the input image into 1 output pixel. I *think* that is the effect of selecting Bi-Linear interpolation. Doing that works, but takes about 45% of CPU.  I want to do some other processing but am worried I will quickly run out of CPU time and start dropping frames.
Is there any better way to do this simple 50% downsize (2x2 average), that would take less CPU overhead, or is this the best way?

    Hi jbeale1,
In NI-MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) select your camera. Under the  'Acquistion Attributes' tab do you see an option to change the Video Mode of your camera to a different resolution? If your camera supports it, it would be more efficient to change the resolution there.
If not , here is a little more info regarding the IMAQ Resample VI:
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370281P-01/imaqvision/imaq_resample/
You are correct, the Bi-Linear option uses a more intensive interpolation technique which is why it is more taxing on your CPU. I hope this is helpful.

            Hello,

I would like to create above query in function so that return value would be used in
another query select statement and I am using SQL 2005.
I would like to know if there is a way to make this work as a function or any better way
            to  achieve this?
            Thanks,

This very simple: We cannot use dynamic SQL from used-defined functions written in T-SQL. This is because you are not permitted do anything in a UDF that could change the database state (as the UDF may be invoked as part of a query). Since you can
do anything from dynamic SQL, including updates, it is obvious why dynamic SQL is not permitted as per the microsoft..
In SQL 2005 and later, we could implement your function as a CLR function. Recall that all data access from the CLR is dynamic SQL. (here you are safe-guarded, so that if you perform an update operation from your function, you will get caught.) A word of warning
though: data access from scalar UDFs can often give performance problems and its not recommended too..

  • Is there any better way for updating table other than this?

Hi all, I need to update a row in the table that require me to search for it first (the table will have more than hundred thousands of row). Now, I am using a LOV that will return the primary key of the row and put that primary key to DEFAULT_WHERE property in the block and execute query command to fetch the row that need updating. This works fine except that it require 2-query-trip per update (the lov and the execute_query). Is there any better way to doing this? This update is the main objective for my application and I need to use the most effective way to do it since we need to update many records per hour.

Thanks Rama, I will try your method. Others, how to query row instead of primary key? I thought that querying primary key is faster due to the index?
BTW, what people do if you need to update a table using Form? I have been using the LOV then execute query since I first developing form. But I am building a bigger database recently that I start worrying about multiple query trip to dbms.
FYI my table will have up to million rows on it. Each row will be very active (updated) within 1-2 weeks after it creation. After that it will exist for records purposes only (select only). The active rows are probably less than 1% of all the rows.

  • If I host with Business Catalyst, will search engines fine me any "better" or Worse than go daddy?

If I host with Business Catalyst, will search engines fine me any "better" or Worse than go daddy?
I am new to Muse and love it! Not sure if the hosting site matters one way or the other.

Liam has some great points. Some other things to consider is that google (just talking one search engine at the moment) more than likely know what a BC site looks like and is made of and would know the best ways to index it assuming you use some of the features of BC and not just straight up HTML.
Godaddy is straight up HTML so as far as indexing goes I think BC has an advantage as it is a known system much like wordpress.
As far as IP blocks, bad neighbours, etc only google will know that information and it's not easy to say which is better.
For example if someone on BC spam's there website everywhere or engages in dodgy SEO practises, spambots etc. Their site is going to be pushed down, if you happen to be on the same IP or close to that site you will be in a "bad neighbourhood" and it may affect your site in the short term. This is the case for ANY hosting solution, so take it all with a gain of salt.

  • Quality of photos BAD in iDvd5- is iDvd 6 any better? Jaggies, blurring...

I've found that the quality of photos is BAD in iDvd5- and I want to know is iDvd 6 any better? Jaggies, blurring, pixelation... nothing NEAR the quality of the original photos. I've read a bunch of old posts on this topic, and I know I can't expect pristine quality from my 10 megapixel camera files, but I CAN expect something better than the crap I'm getting out of iDVD. The slideshows I'm getting in iMovie are great, I just can't burn to DVD for clients. I've tried making them in iMovie but I have the same problem- plus I'd like to bypass iMovie altogether as all my images are stills, no video (for this project anyway).
I've tried everything other people have recommended- saving to quicktime and then importing or dragging into iDvd, applying ken burns first so it won't render, changing the quality settings... anything that anyone has said might help. Still getting crappy DVDs. I think I've wasted about 20 DVDs by now.
I'll buy the new iLife pack if iDvd 6 is any better (currently running iDvd5). I'm hearing that this is apple's problem, not ours, and none of the fixes I've been trying are working. If I can't find a solution soon I'm going to have to buy some non-apple software.

Your expectations are probably too high for what can be achieved usinmg today's DVD technology. Read Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for information about image size requirements for iDVD. 'Throwing' to large a file at iDVD can actually make the final image quality poorer that using a smaller image size as recommended in the article because of QuickTime resizing issues.
Today's NTSC DVDs are less than 640x480 pixels. That's all you get. Period.
Roxio's Toast Titanium 8 offers a photo disc option that produces an auto running slideshow in XP machine and only requires a double-click to run under Mac OS 10.4. This approach puts your full res images on the disc which are then available to anyone who has the disc. Since this approach is COMPUTER based and NOT DVD based, image quality on a computer screen is very good.
I have recently put together several large slideshows with FotoMagico. The default setting was less than optimum, put with a little playing around I was able to produce DV movies with excellent image quality. After iDVD compression, the image quality was better than I could get with a slideshow created in iDVD directly. Image sharpness was good. However, it is still only 640x480 resolution and thus hardly high resolution.
It would be possible to put the DV movies I created in FotoMagico on a DVD data disc. I suspect users would have to then copy the DV movie to their hard drive in order to get a high enough data rate for good playback.
Bottom line: for maximum image quality on playback stay away from creating a video DVD and use Toast 8 to create a photo disc that is played back on a computer.
If you need a video DVD, FotoMagico (or Photo to Movie) will probably give you better slideshow image quality than iDVD. But 640x480 is still only 640x480!
