Slow start for Itunes

I have been having trouble using songs purchased in Itunes in other media software. I select the songs and they are just gone through and greyed out without being played. Reinstalled Itunes with Quicktime. All authorized and library added. The other software asks for Quicktime to be installed. When I start Quicktime I get Error 46. Also Itunes is now going through a very long process to Start. I see 3-4 windows where I'm told Windows is installing in and then another refers to configuring Itunes. This all takes over a minute just to start it.. Help

Several of those symptoms suggest a problem with access control lists (ACLs) on your iTunes and/or QuickTime registry keys.
If that's what is afoot, the technique from the following weblog entry may be of some assistance:

  • Do not want automatic start for itunes

How do I adjust my settings so that itunes does not automatically open home page when I start my computer?

    Hi there,
I'm interested in getting a 3-month premium subscription for my sister for Christmas but I want her to take advantage of the 30-day free trial to make sure she really likes this site (she will be mainly using this on her iPad so I have some concerns that I want to make sure to iron out before she starts). Anyhow, I just wanted to know if her 3-month subscription will start from the date of purchase or AFTER the 30-day free trial is over. If you can help, please let me know. Today is December 24th, 2012 & I would like to purchase her Christmas gift today or tomorrow so she has something to enjoy. She specifically mentioned this website so I'm pretty sure she'll like it. Also, please tell me if I can open an account for her or if she has to do it herself. She knows how to use computers but I'm a little more tech-savvy so I'd like to do it for her just for convenience-sake. Lastly, I hate to ask this late but please respond ASAP because I need to get her set up as soon as I can.
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • Bonjour won't start for itunes update

I need help with installing itunes update, i get this message every time i try to update or install the new itunes---Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service)failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services--- I go into control panel and Administrative tools, then services and try to start bonjour but it wont start, i then close the update window and it starts but when i update itunes it says it fails to start even if i try to start it manually

At any point when there is a new version of iTunes for upgrade, I upgrade.  When iTunes starts after the upgrade, it doesn't see other computers on my network, or our AppleTVs.  Bonjour (mDNSResponder.exe) is running, but not working.  I either 1) manually shut it down in my Task Manager & try to restart it by double clicking on the *.exe, or 2) stop & restart it in Services.msc.  Bonjour still doesn't work in that AppleTVs & computers on our network cannot see each other.  No sharing is happening.  We stream a lot in our house, and when AppleTV isn't seeing a PC or Mac online, or vice versa, it's a problem (of course).
FYI:  Just a few moments ago, I reran the latest iTunes installation file (downloading the exe straight from the Apple site), choosing the "Repair" option.  Nothing changed.  I should not have to uninstall & reinstall iTunes every time just to get Bonjour to kick in again.  It seems that Bonjour never liked an iTunes upgrade, as it stops working & sharing when an upgrade happens.
I'm on Windows XP Pro SP3 with all the latest updates, etc.

    Hi Tim,
The only parameter that controls the delay for the very first cluster member is the "join-timeout-milliseconds" element (http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/multicast-listener). I don't think any of the default values change in 3.5, but the value differs dramatically between the evaluation and development modes (3 sec) and the production mode (30 sec)

  • Error code: MobileMe Services has encountered a problem and needs to close - I get this message everytime i open Outlook and it slows down opening?  This problem started when itunes updated

Error code: MobileMe Services has encountered a problem and needs to close
I get this mesage everytime i open Outlook and it slows down opening. This problem started when itunes updated. What do I do to solve this?

Hi turingtest2 (you pass, BTW):  Thanks for the speedy reply.  MobileMe doesn't appear in the list of programs which can be uninstalled.  I tried the link you suggest: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall but when I tried to "Run Now", I get the error message:  " Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred... etc.... [code 80072F8F]"  So googled this error & found a tool called (80072f8f) Repair Tool   -  I'm leery to download yet more stuff from non-microsoft sites -- any recommendations?

  • Slow start up for podcasts

After some recent upgrade, my iTunes 9 is *very slow* starting a podcast. It usually takes 20 seconds or so for the podcast to begin playing after hitting the "play" button or the space bar. This does not seem to be true of music, nor of all podcasts. The pause seems to make the whole computer come to a halt - even screen updating stops for other applications. For a given podcast this is reliably repeatable.

Every time I start iTunes I get the message: "iTunes exec has been set to run in compatability mode for an older version of Windows. Turn off compatability mode for iTunes before you open it." How do I turn off the compatability mode? Particularly when I have to do it before I turn on iTunes.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Anyone have a solution?

I have an iPhone 4 on IOS5. I signed up for itunes match. After everything uploaded to the cloud, my songs are messed up. I'll select a song and the title will show with the right art work but a different song will start playing.  Some songs won't play at all even though they do appear in the itunes store. The artwork almost always shows u blank until you turn it to landscape then it will appear. Anyone know what's going on?

I have found that scrolling through the album list (past albums without art) triggers the progress wheel next to the wifi symbol. You can scroll quickly through the whole collection and then wait! Artwork will appear gradually...
However, repeat visits to the Music App might initially show no artwork again, but it might spontaneously appear more quickly this time. The bad news is that the whole Music App is now sluggish as ****...

    Hello Kimberly0914,
It sounds like you have tried to launch iTunes after a recent update due to this error message, and you cannot install iTunes after uninstalling. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you named:

  • How to adjust start up for iTunes Helper.exe

    XP Home, SP2, iTunes 7.1.0.59,
in msconfig there are two start up iTunes releated items:
    iTuneshelper.exe,
    qttask.exe
I wish to tweak my system and remove these from Starting up, thus, msconfig startup, and access them only when I start iTunes or something related to Quick Time.
Please advise in explicit detail how to adjust the settings for both iTunes and Quick Time so as to have them only start when I turn them on manually.
    Thank you in advance,
    Robert
HP Pavilion ZE 4230   Windows XP   1.83Ghz, 512 RAM, 40GB HDD, 250GB external HDD

qttask is just the system tray icon for Quicktime. You can stop this from the advanced tab of Qicktime preferences.
There isn't a simple adjustment for iTunesHelper.exe. It doesn't use significant resources unless something is wrong and you should leave it alone.
There is a short piece on what the background processes do here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302488
If you must control iTunesHelper startup, maybe something like Winpatrol would help help.

  • New Laptop, clean start, except iTunes librarys, what news for iPhone?!

    Hi,
I have a new MacBook Pro coming my way (very excited) a nice upgrade from my 3YO work horse iBook!
So, i want to start again, with regards to a 'clean' install. But i want to keep a couple of things like iPhoto and iTunes libraries.
    A couple of questions then.
    1) The first is actually pre-move over. In that i use 2 iTunes libraries, 1 for my laptop (with small number of songs) and one with an external drive (for all my music). I have only plugged my iPhone onto my laptop one. What happens if i plug into the other one by mistake?
    2) When i move laptops, i know i need to copy the library folders from the music folder, to the new music folder, and also copy across the pref file. But what should i do about the iPhone? Will it be as seamless?
    3) Any other tips and ideas to make my move as painless as possible!
    Thanks
    JJ

You need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. You also need to de-authorize your computer that is going back with your iTunes account with iTunes.
iTunes does not store photos. iTunes stores iTunes content only - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and 3rd party apps, and serves as the sync/transfer content for iTunes content - contacts, calendar events and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on your computer, and for photos stored on your computer.
You need to transfer all photos from your work computer to your new computer as with all other data that you will need or want to transfer to your new computer.
The easiest way to transfer your entire iTunes library including playlists, play counts, etc. is be transferring the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder from your work computer to your new computer. If you have access to an external drive with enough storage capacity to store your entire iTunes library or iTunes folder, you can use that for the transfer, or you can network the computers together in some fashion. With iTunes quit on your new computer, place the iTunes named folder copied from the Music folder on your old computer in the Music folder on the new computer. Launch iTunes on the new computer and it will be identical to iTunes on your work computer.

  • When i start my itunes, it start immediately but than i am not able to click on anything for at-least 20 minutes.

When i start my itunes, it start immediately but than i am not able to click on anything for at-least 20 minutes.
I have a lot of songs on there from my local drive and also a network drive which is connected to my local hhome network.
Now before when i use to load itunes while it get frozen it used to collect information on 3 songs and i knew their names so went ahead and deleted them but now i dont see it collecting any information and just frozen.
I just got an iphone and also noticed that once i am syncing my iphone and than i cancel the sync it will again freeze.
What could be causing this, please tell me a way where i dont have to erase my library and re scan it.
One important note - My iTunes Media folder location is on my Network Drive. Can that be the reason?
    Let me know.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jay

The "tap to click" function isn't enabled until a user logs on.  You should be able to use the "physical click" (push down on the front left of the trackpad) in the login screen.
