Slow starting slow wake up and freeze

Hi I have almost tried everything. This is what my imac G5 OSX 10.3.9 is doing. When it is shut down for more than 10 to 20 minutes, it will take about 3 or 4 minutes to start. It sits at the gray screen with the apple and then eventually starts. The other thing it does is when I wake it up from sleep mode I have no pointer for about 4 to 5 minutes, after that time it comes back and as soon as I try to do anything I get the spinning wheel. After I restart it after any of these 2 things happen it starts up with no problem.

"I have almost tried everything."
When troubleshooting did you disconnect all devices from your computer except for the keyboard & mouse?
Did you repair permissions?
It would help if you indicate all the troubleshooting solutions you have already tried. This will help in you not getting duplicate suggestions. This will eliminate you responding back "been there done that".

  • Time Machine starts normally, then stalls and freezes iMac

    Hello.
Time Machine always worked fine on this system.
Now-it starts to back up, then freezes after about 45 mb. When this happens, the toolbar at the top of the screen ("File", etc.) disappears, I can't run any other functions, and have to push the power button to crash the system.
    I have:
--deleted the time machine preferences file
--turned off Virus Barrier background scanning
--tried from scratch with a new back-up disc (same problem)
    --done all Software Updates
    --repaired permissions
--booted up from the OS X disc, and "repaired disc" on the hard drive.
--deleted "in progress" files on the back-up disc, and started over.
I have seen others with what sounds like a similar problem, but I can't find a suitable solution among the discussions.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thank you.

On the MacBook, there was a specific file ("developer pckg") that was crashing back-up. I deleted the file, and I'm back in business.
In the iMac, things seem more complicated, and additional attempts at back-up not only stall--they also freeze the whole computer.
__At the start of the back-up the log reads:__
    Oct 5 11:20:35 Susies-Magnificent-New-iMac-2 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[259]: Backup requested by user

_*Then, there is a VERY long string of "bad alias" messages, and then the back-up freezes at 45.2 mb:*_
The back-up doesn't actually cancel itself--I did that.
The last several lines before the freeze at 45.2 mb are:

    THANKS for having a look!

  • Firefox was fast when I first started using. Now, very slow to open and freezes often. Frequent message is "Warning-unresponsive script". Do I need to switch back to Internet Explorer?

Switched from Internet Explorer because seemed slow. Firefox was fast at first. Then upgraded to Firefox 4 and frequently have trouble opening. Sometimes page doesn't open, or is very slow. If I try to open again I will get Mozilla Firefox Unresponsive or a message that say "Warning-Unresponsive Script". Often have to restart and do the whole thing again. Don't really want to switch back to Internet Explorer, but getting tired of taking a half hour to get into my emails!

I am having the same problem, but not sure what's causing the slow down. Restarting in safe mode fixes the performance problem... but disabling all plug ins and extensions in normal mode (and restarting firefox) still shows the bug. Any ideas?

  • Imac (early 2009) Slow, display issues and freezing, can anyone get any info from crash report?

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can provide some insight into why my Imac is constintantly crashing.
    Issue:
For as long as I can remember it has been ocassionally freezing. First there are little redish dots in clusters on parts of the screen, then if you move a window, some of the image of the window gets left behind. Then there are moving horozintal lines that come up from the bottom of the screen. You can move the mouse but it wont click on anything.
As of about 6 months ago they crashed became so frequent that sometimes you couldn't get 5 mins out of the computer before it would do it again.
I use photoshop quite a lot but the files are never extraordinaly large.
The top left part of the computer can become really hot.
In an effort to try to resolve it I rang Apple and they got to do something which made it work properly again for 2 days, long enough for me to decide to upgrade to Mavrick. Since upgrading it's been even worse. It's really really slow and in applications like mail its flashing and looking like it's loading the page over and over again, starting with the bottom of the page and the bottom colour. Mail searh is also not working. It then freezes again.
Mostly it freezes, and doesn' t crash so I have to restart it myself, so it's not reporting it as a crash.
Today it did crash, I was wondering if anyone can figure out whats wrong the the report below?
    Thanks!

This is a Kernel Panic report, I cannot see any software related issues, my bst guess it's related to hardware. Common causes of hardware related KPs are RAM
    Incorrect RAM
    Failed RAM
    Unseated RAM
Eliminate each and then re-test. If it's not RAM it could be a failing HD or something else. I would recommend taking the machine in to be looked at by a professional and tested. Take it to your local Apple Store or local AASP.

  • Slow broadband speed and freezes 1 hour early morn...

I sometimes work during the night at home - but most nights between 01.30 and 02.30 am my broadband speed slows down drastically, sometimes causing freezing and websites cannot be accessed.  By 3am it starts to ease up. At the moment speed is ok at other times. Anyone any idea why this might happen, especially since it is so regular. When I spoke to the call centre they hadn't a clue why this would be happening. This has been happening over the last couple of years but I have never been given a possible explanation.

Do you have any software that could be doing a backup or other scheduled task such as a virus scan.

ive let the battery drain itself then recharged it to see if that would make a difference - no difference
    Help ASAP needed

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

  • FCE Slow, sluggish startup and freezes up?

We've been having some problems with Final Cut Express, it is very slow to startup(sometimes 15 minutes), and after it starts it sometimes locks up with the spinning rainbow wheel. We are running this basically on 12 machines and over half are having similar problems. We are running this on 2 year old G5 iMacs, running OSX 10.4.8 and Quicktime 7.1.5. I've reset the PRAM, and did an open firmeware reset and reinstalled the application, but it is still acting this way. Any idea's?

"it just seems to have problems when the Broadcast
class logs into that profile to use FCE that it is
real slow and we have problems."
Are these admin users? Are there restrictions on the
user? What are the restrictions? How much RAM is on
    the machines?
These are not admin users, but the profile I used that worked fast was an admin user. These users can't use most of the System Prefs, but have access to all of the space to save for the most part. The machines have 1gb of memory.

  • ITunes 10.5 slows my system and freezes when syncing

iTunes 10.5 slows my whole system, up to 100% cpu usage at times, freezes when trying to sync my iPod, won't load iTunes store, can't download iOS 5.

    what the heck?!

If you searched for 5 minutes, you'd see tons of people have this problem and there is already a fix.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16362081#16362081

  • Re: Slow broadband speed and freezes 1 hour early ...

Im up in the Colonies and get the same. Moved off of O2 LLU to Sky (BTW) because I didnt want their phone service. Had the same problem as you just about every night after that. Now on BT Broadband and its still the same. Obviously something wrong with the BTW port/switch/card.
BT "don't know" whats wrong..........not good enough! Ive worked in IT for over 25 years, the probs obviously at the exchange end....so over to BT.

    UPDATE;
Two Openreach Engineers have called. First one didn't complete a "lift & shift" despite being instructed to do so by very nice lady in Newcastle. Result = still slowing down to a crawl at night! and I mean less than dial up.
    So here's the facts now
9 years with O2 in their LLU which eventually joins BT Wholesale Backbone - no issues.
6 months with SKY whilst still in the same equipment - no issues.
Removed from LLU and plonked in BT port (didn't want SkyTalk) - slows to a crawl at night.
Joined BT Broadband Unlimited (in for a penny etc) - slows to a crawl at night and SNR increased.
Moved to another card at the exchange - slows to a crawl at night and SNR increased.
So......either BT Broadband are throttling and fibbing, or they aren't and BTWholesale are responsible, or Alcatel/Lucent CWMP are making a mess of things as well. (The logs show that they like to go in round about the same times)
Oh...and the engineer stated that at the time of my slowdown they are missing a two hour chunk of data at the logs on their end! Heh......methinks someone is playing with their management systems.
In a nutshell - no issues or problems until my association with BT equipment.
An explanation would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath!

  • Very slow wake up and two log in screens

Hello. I've been experiencing this issue for months and would appreciate suggestions since I haven't seen other entries related to this specifically. When my MacBook Pro (2012), OS X 10.10.2 wakes from sleep, it shows a sort of "progress bar" over a grayed-out screen, but quickly goes to a login screen where I choose either my or a guest account. I type in my password, and instead of taking me to my desktop, the problems begin. The screen goes black for 2-3 minutes, then lights up with a login screen featuring just my name (not showing the guest account option like before), but I can't put my password in for at least another minute--both the mouse on the screen and the keyboard are frozen. It usually takes 4-5 minutes to wake from sleep, longer even than turning on completely!
P.s. I'm not technologically-inclined, so simple explanations/directions would be great!

  • Safari 4.0 slow to reload and freezing

    Hi
Many of my regular sites do not load first time with Safari 4.0 and I usually have to reload a few times before it comes up....sites include apple.com.
I've seen a few references to DNS issues with Safari 4.0. Is likely to lead to a quick fix or should I return to Firefox??
    Any other advice welcome
    thanks COlin

Give the DNS changes a try. It takes 2 minutes to make the change. If it doesn't help, feel free to keep using Firefox.

  • Accidental wake ups and freezes

    Hello,
I have a weird problem with my Macbook sometimes. When I put my laptop to sleep and close the lid sometimes it can wake up in the middle of the night and keep running till morning without any reason, causing high enclosure temperature. Reseting PRAM/SMS does not help. I don't have any devices connected to my machine except USB Bluetooth mouse, but I switched off in the preference pane ability to wake up my computer using Bluetooth device. Please see below what is causing my machine to wake up:

I seems that's USB, but why, what I can do to fix this strange behavior? Nothing in the log file except the line that USB caused wake event??? I am using Macbook Core Duo 1.83GHz/2GB RAM/Leopard 10.5.2.

        Hi, powderday-
I'm sorry to learn of the strange issues! I have the Nexus too, and I love it. While I have not seen this on my device, I can recommend a few tricks. The basic one is to enable safe mode (http://bit.ly/vW58PM) to see if these issues continue while in the mode. Do you recall an update to the weather widget recently? If this fails, I suggest a hard reset (http://bit.ly/swCYZF) to correct these. Backing up the devices information via Google for your contacts, and a computer for your media files is best! Keep me posted so I can continue to help.
    Thank you,

  • Speed, lockups, and freezes

I am having a terrible time with the slow speed, lockups, and  freezes with my HP P6000.  Any solutions?

    HI
First of all Make Hardware test of Your system .. like RAM, HDD etc..
if you hardware test passes..then problem could be your OS.
make backup of your DATA like photos, files etc and then make your system to an factory default settings..
    will solve your issue..
