Slow streaming from iCloud to apple tv, slow streaming from iCloud to apple tv

The time it takes to stream tv or movie from icloud to apple tv 2 can run as long as 2 to 3 hours. I cannot find any settings that will improve the perfotmance. What can I do?

When it is going to sleep, it stops outward communications. Wireless connections can be frequently disconnected as well. If you want it to stay awake while streaming, go to the settings application and tap general, find the sleep settings and set to "Never". This will also keep your iPad from sleeping at all though, so make sure you lock it or close your Smart Cover ("Sleep/Wake with Smart Cover" must be enabled for the cover to put it to sleep, but it is enabled by default) or else the screen will stay on until the battery dies.
I prefer using either the dock connector to VGA adapter or the dock connector to HDMI to connect to the TV, that way it doesn't take up your Wireless Network's bandwidth, and you don't need to use the Apple TV either. The sleep problem will still exist, however, unless you change the sleep time like I mentioned above.

  • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,

Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck

  • Apple TV 3 slow to download from iCloud and connected computer.

Apple TV 3 slow to download from iCloud and connected computer. Wired via ethernet with very fast upload and download speeds. Can anyone help please? Accessing YouTube is even incredibly slow. Have reset, no joy. Have changed DNS to Google DNS, no joy.

Resolved!  Disabled BT Home Hub as wireless. Removed Devolo wireless plugs from house. Removed TP link powerline adapters (Apple TV was connected to ethernet). Set Time Capsule as the only wireless point in the house. Interestingly, if you have more than 1 access point in the house, BT Home Hub can get a little confused - so removing its wireless capability via the admin function via advanced settings basically set Time Capsule as only access point in the house). Changed DNS on Windows 7 machine to Open DNS.....(FYI, outside of US & Canada, Google DNS is pretty much useless and won't speed up your download speeds on Apple TV).  Restored Apple TV to factory settings and started again. Downloads from iCloud almost instant; downloads from shared computer almost instant; streaming from YouTube and Netflix almost instant. Happy days....

  • Slow Streaming From Time Capsule to Apple TV

    Hi,
I have several movies and tv programmes stored on my Time Capsule..... When I stream from the time capsule to Apple TV it is very slow and is constantly buffering. How can I get around this as at present the films / programmes are un-watchable.
    Thanks
    mbchunky

Thanks for describing your current network configuration for streaming.
In your current setup, QuickTime will first have to access the media files from the TC over a wireless connection. From there it will send the stream back to the TC. The TC will then send the stream to the Apple TV. As you can see there are a number of potential Wi-Fi interference issues along this overall path. Interference is not just from other Wi-Fi operating nearby, but also includes microwave ovens, portable phones, baby monitors, etc. Very importantly, it also includes the type of building material used along the path the wireless signal must travel through.
I would suggest that you do a bit of testing to determine what exactly the data throughput you are getting. Once you understand those values, we should be able to determine where the bottlenecks are and try to eliminate them if possible.
Please take a look at the following AirPort User Tip for details on taking throughput measurements.

  • Apple TV 2nd Generation slow streaming for Movies from my iTunes

Just taken delivery of a 2nd Generation AppleTV. Everything works but when selecting a movie from my iTunes library it takes a very, very long time before it plays. I can fast forward and reverse but cannot play. Sometimes it takes 15 to 20 minutes before I can play it. Is there anything I can do to improve this? I could go and get the DVD and play it in my DVD player much faster than this.

I have the same problem with mine: the Apple TV 2 is so slow to start streaming movies I initially thought it wasn't working at all. I'd select a movie, and after many minutes of no result I'd cancel and try another. Turns out it's just so slow I though it wasn't functional.
My setup: movies on iMac (current model 27" i7, OS X 10.6.5), stock internal drive, Airport Express running 7.4.2 in 201.11n only mode 2.4 GHz), no other computers or devices on the network.
I tried swapping in a wired router and connected everything via Ethernet, but it made no difference.
Also tried selecting a movie, waiting the incredibly long time for it to start streaming, and then cancelling out and starting all over with the same movie (to see if it caches). The problem persists.
I wondered if it was the size of my movie library. I have about 230 movies in iTunes. So I tried leaving the Apple TV in "browse your movies" mode overnight to see if it needed time to prefetch things from the movie library. That didn't work either.
I've tried a couple dozen movies from various sources (home movie from iMovie, DVD ripped by Handbrake using both "Apple TV" and "Apple Universal" settings, and Ripit), without any change. I'm going to try the many-chapters idea and made a movie with tons of chapters to see if that helps (will report back).

  • After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow.

After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac to latest on 02/15, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow. even 5 mins song takes 10-15 mins to start. Netflix/Youtube work fine on Apple TV. restarted Mac, router, modem, appletv. reset Appletv to factory setting and re-start.

Apple TV 2 does not appear in iTunes (exception being when connected via micro-usb for restore) as it has no sync capabilities.
    See if this helps

  • HT4352 slow streaming from itunes to apple tv 3

I am experiencing slow streaming from itunes to apple tv (latest gen). My itunes library is found but when the music begins it stops after 2 seconds then restarts etc etc. It seems like it is streaming slowly from itunes. At first it appeared the firewall was the problem but this has been eliminated. Any one have the same problems or know of a solution?

    Hi,
I had this problem both between Mac itunes library and Apple TV and Windows 7 Itunes Library to Apple TV, I disabled IPv6 on both my mac and windows machine, fixed the ip on all my devices. I also disabled windows firewall on my windows machine (I have an external firewall so not needed) you may not want to do this. From my windows machine it would play a few songs, then start one at 7 seconds and not play audio. From my mac it would say connecting to itunes library with the wheel.
These are the things I believe to resolve the issue, I also disabled a tonne of windows services (iphelper, Windows media streaming)

  • Incredibly slow streaming of video from macbook pro to apple tv

Hi.  We purchased an apple tv 3rd generation connected to wifi.  our internet runs about 7mb/sec.  no problem streaming movies purchased on itunes through apple tv but ridiculously slow streaming mp4 through itunes to apple tv over macbook.  when i say ridiculously, not even sure if it works... just seems to think about it.   home sharing is enabled on both devices.  i know they are communicating because i can play my music library on the tv (which is also pretty slow).  am i missing something?

Home sharing is done over the local network so internet speed wouldn't play a factor. I would be inclined to think it is specific to the videos you are trying to share.
Have you made sure they are compatible with the Apple TV?
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Apple TV 2 - Slow wireless streaming from iMac

I recently purchased the Apple TV2 after being very happy with the first Apple TV. The direct wireless streaming form my iMac to my Apple TV2 seems to be extremely slow. Music videos which played fine on my first Apple TV even though the Apple TV Hard Drive was at full capacity take like 2-3min to start and then still freeze up in halfway through. I have not changed anything other that swopping out the old Apple TV for the new one. At this point the Apple TV1 gives me a much better experience than the Apple TV2. My iTunes liabrary is on the external hard drive but this has never been a problem on my iMac or old AppleTV. What could be causing the streaming to be so painfully slow.... surely this could not be the intended Apple experience.

I did have many connection issues when I first got my ATV2- found it was the saturation of wireless networks around my house. I ran iStumbler to check out what channels were available- and found none- all channels had more than 1 network on it. I think the ATV2 can lose a good connection quite easily- causing it to take longer to buffer.
I upgraded to an Airport Extreme and ran the ATV and iMac on the 5Ghz channel- that helped big time (I was the only 5Ghz network broadcasting).
So, check it out with iStumbler for Mac and you may be suprised.

  • Very Slow Streaming from MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I am trying to stream movie from my MacBook to my Apple TV but the movies do not stream. My library shows up on my Apple TV and when I select them they do not load. After a few minutes a message will show up saying, "An error occurred loading this content, Try again later." I have had my Apple TV for about 5 months and have not had any problems streaming content before except when I had to do some port forwarding through my router but about a week ago it started with this issue. I have a PC hooked up to my network and am able to stream from that without any problems. My MacBook is running OSX 10.8.2 with iTunes 11.0.1, my Apple TV is running 5.1.1. Please help with any suggestions you might have.

  • Very slow streaming from Mac to Apple TV 2

    Hi
I have recently had an Apple TV2, the main reason was so that we could watch our growing number of homemade family HD films on the TV without having to burn to Blu-Ray etc.
Problem is we can't.  Music is fine but when I click on a movie (from IPad or iMac) it takes at least 30 mins before it starts, the streaming bar at the bottom hardly moves.
I see that there are others with similar problems.  I am using my home wireless network (BT Homehub 2) and I have no issues using the Internet, which is faster that streaming from my Mac!!!
Please can someone help as this is driving me mad.
    Thanks
    Matthew

Sorry about this: I finally figured it being an iTunes issue.  Restarting my router did the trick.

  • Slow streaming from MAC to Apple TV

I am using OS Mountain Lion on my MacBook Air.
For some very strange reason, I am unable to connect easily to Apple TV anymore.  I have the latest updates for all three, iTunes, Apple TV and my MAC.
It takes an excrutiating long time for Apple TV to read my iTunes library and then several minutes before a selected song actually starts playing.  It seems to me as if it starts once roughly 5 minutes have been streamed to Apple TV.  Playing multiple songs is not realistic.
However, when connecting from my iPhone or iPad, I do not have the same issues.  Means, it is not the network.
Any ideas what I might have messed up?
    Thanks!

  • My apple tv is slow when streaming from my computer

My apple TV works fie when I stream from the internet on Nexflix or when renting movies etc.  However, it has a hard time displaying pictures or playing audio or video from my iTunes account.
The mac that has the itunes on it is conneted to the internet through a hardwire connection but is conneceted to the network through a wifi connection.

The Mac is using wi-fi and wired? Why?
Isn't the Mac plugged into the router that supplies wi-fi?

  • Streaming from itunes to apple tv really slow

Trying to stream movies from my Late 2012 Model MacBook Pro (with iTunes) to Apple TV. Running latest patch for Mavericks.
Have experienced the following issues on BOTH of my Apple TV's
    1. Trying to stream from MacBook (iTunes) takes forever (id say 30 minutes for every 1 minute of video)
    2. Streaming from Apple (my movies) works fine
    3. Streaming from Netflix works fine
    4. Internet speed test from MacBook is always 10Mbps or better (sometimes 25Mbps), and Wireless Signal strength is normal (5 bars)
    5. Can watch movies on MacBook Pro just fine
Streaming worked fine a few months ago.
    Here is what I tried
    1. Rebooting Router
    2. Rebooting Apple TV's
    3. Rebooting MacBook Pro
    What else can I try/check?

Make sure DNS is set to auto (setting - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Checking signal on device won't be an accurate network indicator, to get a full report go to istumbler or similar to see signal strength and any noise detected.

  • I've just updated my Apple TV now streaming from my iTunes Library is very slow

I've had Apple TV since november and ever since i've installed it, it has worked like a treat and is a great way to watch content on my iMac. unfortunately since i have done a recent update on Apple TV it is having real issues with the content on my itunes library, streaming on netflix is fine, i am having no issues with my internet, it is just stuck loading when it comes to content on from my iMac. Has anyone else had this problem? is it the update? and is there a way of correcting the error. I have tried:
    restarting Apple TV
    restarting itunes
    rebooting iMac
    resetting Apple TV
    Restoring Apple TV
signing in and out of itunes
    nothing works.....Help!

its not apple going "down the tubes" its that you have windows junk.  These opinion best left at apple.com/feedback
you need to completely uninstall itunes and all components
