Slow streaming over wifi using ipad

Why is streaming over wifi slower than over cellular connection?  Other devices don't have the same issue.

generally we all think and expect wifi will be faster than a cell connection.  But that will not always be the case.  A good uncongested LTE runs pretty fast.
But the wifi should be fast enough that you wouldn't notice any issues unless:
You are using a public wifi spot where the signal is metered.  Where I work, they clamp the wifi for guests at 250k.
The wifi cannot run any faster than your internet connection.  Is it clean?
Recent stoires here are explaining how verizon and Comcast have been allowing you tube and netflix feeds to become overcongested, in an effort to extract $$ from them for the privilange of sending you the signal.
a good place to start is to get a speed app - like Speed test (there are a bunch in the store) and see what speed your wifi is delivering.
One thing that is almost certain, your wifi is a whole lot cheaper than your cell signal!

  • IPhone will not sync over wifi, iPod & iPad will

I just got the iPhone 5s, and I can't seem to sync over wifi. I can sync with my iPad and iPod over wifi, so I think my network isn't the problem. Everytime I plug my iPhone in to my MacBook, the sync over wifi option box is not ticked, I tick it and sync, but the computer never seems to see the iphone, and when I plug the iPhone in the next time, the option box for wifi sync is un-ticked.
I'm running a late 2008 MacBook (the last of the old black ones), with OSX 10.7.5, and iTunes 11.1.4. All of my i-devices are running iOS 7.0.4.
Any help with this would be very much appreciated, this issue has really been irking me.

  • IPhone 3GS Slow Youtube over WiFi Finally Solved

I have been having major problems with youtube over wifi, same as many on this forum. Youtube videos constantly buffer (start/stop) or play very slow over wifi, butplay fine over 3G. I have read many posts about this and have tried everything. The solution I found that works %100 every time (for me anyway)was to change my wireless key from WEP to WPA. Many users suggest downgrading to 802.11b, which I did but it made no difference. Once I changed the key from WEP to WPA it made no difference if the network was at B,G or B/G mixed. The dummies at apple tech told me it was hardware and I should exchange my phone. So much for tech support. Hope this helps!!

Yep, same problem! I have 30 mbps on Macbook with my Wifi speed test and on mobile speed test I get 11.6 mbps download and 0.94 upload. I have the same exact problem. Youtube is extremely slow. I also don't have the luxury to switch to WEP since I have an airport extreme which DOESN'T HAVE A WEP OPTION. Maybe I should stop buying apple products all together! Called apple support the guy told me to switch the channels from auto to manual and pick different channels on my airport extreme. Everything else seem to have improved except YouTube. It is dreadfully slow and I constantly need to switch to 3Gs to watch grainy videos. This is unacceptable!

  • Slow Fast Forward or stalls - streaming over wifi.

    To anyone who is interested,
I was having problems trying to fast forward an HD film over my Wifi(g) network. For some reason, apple tv stalls if the fast forwarding out paces your buffering speed. In a nutshell, my network is fast enough to watch hd over but too slow to fast forward faster than X2.
Does anyone know how to improve this setting? Apart from opting for a new router, wired and removing other wireless devices?
For a short term solution for anyone out there, the remote feature on the iphone allows you to simply drag along the length of the film, similar to that of a film, and play from where you stop. EXTREMELY USEFUL when compared to the response-less rubbish that is the white remote!

I have that problem all the time with synced HD video. If I fast forward or rewind, the video will start sputtering after that. I don't think it's your network, it's probably a glitch in the ATV.
In any case, if you're streaming from a Mac via wifi, make sure you turn Time Capsule off. If it starts running while you're streaming, it will definitely degrade performance.

  • Help for Realplayer Streaming over wifi Timecapsul...

I was successfully streaming radio and video (BBC) to the E71 over my home network - Mac Timecapsule being used as wireless router WPA2, password protected.
All of a sudden it stops "unable to connect" message when the Realplayer app tries to open a stream. I can still get onto the web via the correctly defined same access point for email, web browsing etc, it is just Realplayer that can't get the streams. I can also access an unencrypted network in my house and this works just fine with the Realplayer streaming. Tried the usual reboots, no luck.
I suspect it could be something to do with the router firewall settings, but as we haven't changed these and it worked previously I am a bit stuck.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

  • Stream over WiFi

I am a huge fan of Streaming from my Mini to my AppleTV. I recently had to disconnect the Ethernet connection between my Mini and ATV and go with wireless instead. Although i can still see all the movies on my ATV they stream at an unusably slow rate. I went from 100MB ethernet through a Dlink Router with both devices connected to a 802.11g through the same router to both devices. is it normal that i can barely stream at all now (music seems to work, but not movies)? Will it improve if the Mini is connected via ethernet and the ATV is wireless? Will 802.11n make a big or marginal difference?

Thanks to everyone who posted. I was able to get great performance simply by connecting the Mini directly to the router and the ATV over wireless G. The wireless G on both devices causing a drastic slowdown is still a mystery, but one i don't have to worry about anymore. BTW, my wife thanks all of you because my default solution would have been to just go by a new APE with N, but now i can apply the cash to a new MBP. :):):)

  • Very slow printing over WiFi

    Hi everyone!
One of my clients has uses a 4th generation Apple AirPort Extreme. It's a small network with only 3 to 5 users.
All users connect via Ethernet cable, but one individual recently moved her iMac 21 to a spot in the office that doesn't have a wired network connection. Although she's able to work fine via a wireless connection in almost every respect, printing to their Canon ir C3080 copier is painfully slow over wireless. It doesn't matter what she tries to print - even a small text file takes up to five minutes to print. When I move and connect her iMac to the network via Ethernet, the printing problem disappears.
I then tested the other computers in the office and my computer for this problem and found that they all printed very slowly over the WiFi connection.
Their AirPort base station is up-to-date with the most current firmware, and all the computers are running the most updated versions of Snow Leopard. I'm running Lion on my computer, by the way.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I don't have another printer I can test in this office, but I think that may be the next thing I have to do.
Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), SL & ML, G4 450 MP w/Leopard, 9.2.2

  • Streaming radio programs using IPad Apps/Safari Browser

I love the streaming radio in ITunes for OSX. As the IPad, IPhone and IPod Touch version does not have the streaming radio, we have to use streaming radio apps or, where available, web sites.   I have IPad 1.
The trouble comes when you want to send streaming radio to your speakers via AirPlay and the Airport Express.
While I know ITunes will stream via Airport Express, I have not been able to find clear info on whether Internet radio apps will do so.  Someone said AOL radio does, but I want to find others, since my last experience with AOL was not great sound wise.  I have used Itunein and WunderRadio apps, but cannot tell if they support AirPlay on the IPad .
Does anyone have firsthand experience sending streaming radio via APPs or even via Safari browser to AirPlay?
    Thank you.

If they are enabled for AirPlay, they will work.
IHeartRadio and TuneIn radio app work fine.
Look next to the volume slider in the app for the AirPlay icon.

  • Live audio streaming over wifi network

What I would like to know, is it possible to stream live audio over a wifi network.
PC A records a stream from a mic and then simultaneously broadcasts that same stream live over the entire wifi network, sorta like a radio station only on a much smaller and simpler scale.
    Is this possible?

It seems like I'm missing something with icecast. If I understand it correctly then you can only play an existing media file, no real time live broadcasting?
I have finished setting it up and can listen in over the network, but I need real time broadcasting. Is there a way to do this in icecast or should I look at something else.
    SYNOPSIS:
While someone is talking over the mic the server records the stream with Audacity for editing later on. The problem is that I want this stream to be simultaneously streamed live to another PC so that people next door to the meeting can hear it real time, no delays. A few seconds delay is not critical, but I cannot record and hour long session and then broadcast it, it has to be real time.
To complicate things, there is no internet available, we are in the middle of nowhere on a secluded convention centre, so that is why it seemed to me like the easiest would be to broadcast via WIFI.

  • Incredibly slow connection over WIFI only on Mac

    Hi,
I have the following problem that cannot fix and I need your help.
I have a 10Mbit fiber optic ISP connection and a Belkin wifi accesso point.
In the same room I have an iPhone, an iPad and a PC succesfully connected and up/downloading at full speed (up to 900K).
The problem is on the Mac that can't go faster than 10K !!!
Sometimes it also drops and cannot see the wifi for a while. I tested also with all other devices turned off and the access point freshly restarted.
    Any idea?
    thanks a lot

    update/more info
when connected via ethernet cable the speed is very fast, so I guess no disk fragmentation issues
also, sometime the connection to the access point breaks and I can't find it on the airport search (I don't see any other access point). All this while the orhert devices do see many wifi in the area and easily connect to mine at top speed.
definitely the issue is on the Mac.
forgot to say, my belkin is set with a WPA2 password.

  • Slow streaming videos on my ipad 2

Onother devives my internet conexion is ok...any sugestions.?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
