  • Streaming video - How?

    Hello,
I am looking to create a website using Dreamweaver 8. I need
to know how to stream videos:
    1. Should I stream with Flash? If so, what are the
    requirement e.g. FLV 256K
    2. What host should I use? I do expect traffic on the site so
    is shared hosting ok?
    3. Can Dreamweaver support video streaming and how?
    4. Are there any resources online for this?
    Any constructive help is appreciated.

  • Choppy/Slow streamed videos on both Firefox and Chrome

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that was recently turned off for two weeks while I was on vacation. When I turned it back on and tried to watch videos online (youtube, Netflix, streamed videos) the videos are choppy and slow to load. This was never a problem before turning of the computer for the two weeks. I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox and the problem happens on both. When viewing the Activity Monitor while attempting to watch the videos the CPU usage is fine for the first 20 seconds or so and then Chrome or Firefox take on 80-90-over 100% of the CPU usage, a majority of the usage is from the system (in red) and the videos become untwatchable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers and have disbaled all the extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight for Netflix and have uninstalled all unused versions of Adobe Flash player. There are no problems with video when I watch a DVD. Help! I want to watch videos again

having same problem since mac os x 10.6 upgrade, but was never issue prior... have tried everything i can think of, new flash players, reinstalling players, reboots of computer and router... to no avail. since this was never an issue for me prior to upgrading to Mac OS X (10.6.8), i believe its the os software.

  • Slow streaming video on G4 MDD

Please forgive me in advance, if this topic has been covered. I've been searching the forums, but haven't found an answer ... yet - still looking.
I love my G4 MDD, she's been a good pal, and has done everything I've asked. But, for the life of me, I can't understand why, while watching streaming videos on Safari, the feeds are all choppy. (For example, catching up on LOST on abc. com, can be a frustrating experience.) I know the old girl is getting long in the tooth, but she's still a powerhouse computer. What (without buying a whole new machine) can I do? Is it a RAM problem? Video card? Hard drive? A Safari problem? I'm stumped.
This is what I've got :Power PC G4 MDD, Dual 1GHz, 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM. I've got a strong Airport signal.
Any ideas would be appreciated. In this economy, I gotta work with what I've already got.
    Thanks,
    Ralph W.

Streaming video from over the internet isn't going to tax your video card.
It's going to be either the broadband connection, the wireless, or the CPU struggling with an advanced video codec like H264.
The MDD starts to struggle at about 1500kbps video/audio in H264 decompression. If you have any other processes running (like Spotlight Indexing in OSX 10.4 and 10.5 - which is a real killer just after a fresh install) then you're even more severely limited, perhaps 1300kbps.
Sustained AirPort 'b' (for MDD) tops out at about 4000kbps with a perfect signal. The advertised 11Mbps is theoretical and something close may only be possible in a burst mode. Even if your wireless strength is perfect, there may be interference that will cut throughput in half, then half again.
Don't know your broadband connection, but ISPs here in the UK use "traffic shaping", cutting back on our 8Mbps throughput to little more than 2Mbps, sometime less during busy periods (evenings, weekends, if you live in a primarily residential area).
If any of these areas force your throughput to drop below the rate at which the TV show in encoded, you get jumpy video and/or audio.

  • Slow streaming video

    Dear All
I have recently added a number of video tours to our companies website via iweb. They stream well in the morning but then later on in the afternoon (4-6pm GMT) they slow right down and take a while before the video will start streaming.
    http://web.mac.com/dorsetdc/Corben&_SonVideos/Thatch.html
I have tested my broadband speed and that does not seem to alter. The grand speed of 2mbs seems to be fairly constant (i know its a snails pace but that "Great" Britain for you)
Could it be that a lot of people are trying to view the same video or does apple's servers slow down at certain times?
I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas or could point out something i am doing wrong.
    Kind regards
    DC

You broadband speed is always the same.
It's probably the server at Apple.
6PM GMT = Early morning to noon in the USA.
So everybody starts editing and publishing their iWeb pages. And then the whole internet bogs down.
We just have to live with it.

  • Slow loading videos, how to fix?

I have a captivate course that has a 25 minute video as the bulk of the course (followed by a quiz)
When uploaded as a MP4 (about 300 mb), it takes about 10 minutes for the video to start playing.. which is unacepptable!
I tried cutting up the video at logical points till I had 8 videos (15 - 30 mbs average) on 8 consecutive slides; preloader was set to 10%.. i figured the first video would take about a minute to load but the rest should pre-load... but NO, the project stops at each video and loads for 2-3 minutes... still not acceptable!
    What can I do?
Surely, someone out there has made a video heavy e-course, what's the fix?
P.S. I also tried using the youtube interaction; and while it does load almost instantly since it's youtube, the widget is incredibly limiting (doesn't pause with the project, won't scale properly, etc...

We have created several courses now which rely heavily on videos.  Each course has a video which is about an hour long followed by a quiz.
To make this happen, we took several steps.
First , we found a video hosting site which lets us do video streaming using ABR (Adaptive Bit Rate).  This lets the video start playing within a few seconds of the webpage being presented.  You can put a video file on a standard web server, but it will only do "Progressive" downloading where almost the entire video must be downloaded before it will start playing.  You will have to pay some money for this type of Video Hosting site (the "big dogs" of video hosting are Brightcove.com and Ooyala.com).  Once you upload your video to them, they re-encode it to the correct formats that it needs to play to the various devices.  They also give you the HTML to put on your web page so the video plays back correctly and it knows how much data to "feed" the device which is playing the video.
Next we broke up our video into Chapter or parts which last between 5 and ten minutes.  We didn't want the student to get to minute 58 of a 60 minute video, cancel out and then have to watch the entire 60 minutes again the next time they started the course.
We then took the HTML that we got from our video provider and loaded it onto some web pages which we serve up on our servers.  We created a different web page for each video chapter.
Then using Captivate 7, we used their web object widget and pointed each slide to a different web page (one for each chapter).  We ended up with between 8 and 10 video slides per course, followed by a random 25 question quiz.
We just published our 2nd course using this technique and the end-users really seem to like it.

  • Slow streaming videos on my ipad 2

Onother devives my internet conexion is ok...any sugestions.?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • WRT160N V3 streamed video problem

I am getting frequent stoppages in streamed video, a message appears on my laptop saying "loading" and a red line beginning traversing the screen. Eventually the line gets across and the video begins again to stream. When I do a speed test I get around 10 Mbps both through the router wireless and hardwired connections. This happens almost every 10 minutes. I have tried rebooting the router and the problem persists. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Try the followinf steps:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
    # Make the wireless Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings for both 2.4 GHz:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 50
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304
    Then check the wireless status..
As well as to make Streaming Video and Media load faster you can try the followings steps: http://www.delete-computer-history.com/slow-streaming-video.html .

  • Recently loaded Firefox Update 3.6.15,message appeared saying the file is corrupt. This appears to have impacted our proxy server and ability to stream video from BBC I-player? Has anyone else had this issue with 3.6.15, if so how did you resolve it?

Received upgrade notification for Mozilla to 3.6.15 which we undertook. The computer after completing this activity now cannot stream video through our proxy provider from BBC I-player, even though we have ensured we have the latest Flash Plug-in. The system was working perfectly prior to this event. Even if we delete and re-download the update, the file loads and then when asked to run, "File Corrupt message appears. Please advise or provide solution if possible. Thanks

My iPhone keeps freezing when I am streaming videos. How do I fix this.

    Hello Jennings Castle,
It seems your iPhone is slowing down and not responding frequently. To rectify this issue you may want to consider performing a restore on the device, and then restoring your data from a backup via iCloud or iTunes.
If the issue persists after restoring your backup, you would then want to consider restoring the device and setting it up as new. Below I have linked to article which offers guidance on both of these restore methods:

  • Slow, jerky streaming video on G4 iMac

I am running Leopard 10.5.3 with no problems on a 1GHz G4 iMac with 1 gig of RAM. However, streaming video is virtually unwatchable: it is always slow and jerky. My internet connection is a steady 6.5 mbps down.
Any suggestions on how I can make streaming video watchable?
    Thanks. . .

  • Playbook shuts down after a few mintutes when streaming Video.. how can I fix this?

Hi There, new to this forum as I just purchased the Playbook 32GB.  I really like this tablet and bought the micro HDMI cable so I could hook it up to my 1080p TV.  Anyway, we're streaming video on the browser and after a few mintutes the Playbook screen starts to flicker and then turns black and disconnects from my wi-fi connection.
This is quite frustrating as we like the idea of streaming movies and dramas off the tablet to our TV and being able to enjoy it witout the tablet shutting down.  I understand the shut down mode is to conserve the battery's power, but this even happens when the unit is plugged in.  I understand this also happens when you download things for more than 5 mintutes as well as listen to music for longer then 5 mintutes the Playbook auto shutdowns.
Can this be resolved with an ap or software upgrade provided by BlackBerry?  Any suggestions on how to fix this is much appreciated!

  • Is anyone with an iPhone 6plus experiencing slow downloads and problems streaming videos online?

is anyone with an iPhone 6+ experiencing slow download and slow video streaming online? I have had the iPhone 6 Plus and I've been experiencing my app is downloading a lot slower and being unable to stream videos online

I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this site. Three days apps will not update, iOS8.0. Support told me to update to iOS8.02. Can't do that over WIFI or Cell network. Supports tells me have to link to iTUNES and do this. That takes three trys. Did that. Apps still not updating. Read online that resetting network settings will help. Did that App's hanging and not updating.
Apple how does this happen. Night before iOS8.0 release you pull things because of some security issue. Then you have iOS8.01 fiasco and now this. Can someone get this right. We use these things for more than just phones now. FIX IT
