Slow TM after Hub in AirPort??
I previously had my TM through a FireWire, i think 400, port on my Mac. I got an AirPort Extreme to create a wireless network. I then began using a USB drive that was partitioned so I could backup my iMac and MacBook Pro using TM. I connected to my AirPort Extreme via a USB 2.0 Hub. It is now going VERY slow. I know USB is slower than FireWire, but this is almost like a snail. Any suggestions, or ideas as to why it is doing this?

So you're running Time Machine over a WiFi connection to the disk connected to your AirPort Extreme via USB?
First USB 2.0 isn't that much slower than FW400, so that's not where your problem lies. There are likely two explanations for the slowness. First, Apple AirPort base stations are notorious for performing slowly with disks, either USB connected ones or the internal drive in a Time Capsule. Second, your WiFi connection is probably slowing down the data transfer. See the second message of this thread for advice on analyzing the quality of your WiFi connection:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11706850
Incidentally, if all you're using that disk for is Time Machine, there's really no reason to partition it. Time Machine can maintain backups for more than one Mac on the same network volume.

Slow Speeds after Hub 5 upgrade
Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to the home hub 5 (latest edition) and now my speed has dropped to only 3 mb/s, when I used to be getting speed of 25 or more (i am on BT inifinity up to 35 mb/s) Any ideas as to why this is? Its rather annoying
Thanks
MarkIs that on a wired connection or wireless.

Mac Pro slow down after Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade
Upgraded in January.
I get the spinning color wheel all the time. Programs crash.
I've run adware medic a few times, and etrecheck.
First run through, adware found Genio.
Since then, it hasn't. Etrecheck still says it sees it, but Adware doesn't. Still no good.
I reset SMS and PRAM.
This machine is slow. Previous to the upgrade, this machine was very fast!

I have realized that I am not the first with the same problem after the installation of Mavericks.
I run etrecheck as have been already advised many users.
Below are the results.
Can you please help me further? My mac is really slow. Applications, like email quit unexpectadly.
Thank you in advance.

6.01 GB Page-ins
517 MB Page-outsYou have been up for ~17 days, and you have 1.72GB of pageouts. That averages out to one page every 3 seconds, and we will assume you re not working 24/7, so when you are using your Mac you are spending a lot of time paging to disk. Disks are slow.
As Kappy says, you are either concurrently running too may RAM hungry apps, or you have some apps that really want lots of RAM and you are running them a lot day after day. Either "Stop That!", or get more RAM.
You could also consider a Solid State Disk, but that is not as good as having real RAM and would be more expensive than RAM unless you Mac is max'ed out on RAM. Of course you could do both. More RAM and an SSD
If you want to see the paging for yourself, start an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session, and run the command:
sar -g 60 100
which will report the pageout stats every minute for 100 minutes (adjust the numbers to suit your tastes).
Now use your Mac as your normally would, including the times when it is running slow. After you have experienced the slowness, go back and look at the 'sar' output. If you have mostly zeros with maybe a trivial blip every once in awhile, that is noise and not a paging issue. If you have some high numbers, then you are paging heavily at that time. If you have sustained paging, even if small value, it is going to affect your performance. High numbers will affect your performance even more. -
Slow down after Mavericks Installation-can you check my EtreCheck?
I'm not sure which one of my old programs is slowing me down. Applications and new windows open more slowly and are more likely to freeze. Could someone point me in the right direction?

1.72 GB Page-outsYou have been up for ~17 days, and you have 1.72GB of pageouts.
How many people are experiencing a major slow down and internet loss after the latest AirPort update. I've been having a lot of trouble. Also does anyone know how to fix it?
Ok, found a solution that may work. I found an application called appzapper. You can find it in mac os x/downloads here on the apple site. it is shareware but you get 5 free zaps, so good enough. download the program and then find the update package /library/receipts/airport20060001.pkg. drag the package onto appzapper. Bang no more update(at leat i think) I had to restart and when i did i had my full 54mb connectivity and i could again find my g5 on the network for file sharing. hope this helps.

The better your description, the better the chance of a solution. The results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup. -
Macbook WI-FI Slow down after Screensaver kicks in
I just got this new macbook a few days ago. Everything is been working great except for this problem. I am experiencing an internet slow down after the screensaver Flurry kicks in. as long as the screen saver doesnt kick in, the internet still works fine.
Does anyone has a solution to it or experienced something similar to my problem?
Any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.I encounter a similar problem using my girlfriends new Macbook (Intel Core 2 duo). Out of the box, i remember it working well and it was fast on my network using a Linksys WRT54G router (firmware v8.00.2). However, over the course of a few days, WiFi speeds deteriorated quickly.
This solution worked for me:
-Set the router to channel 3, 6 or 11
-Enable WEP encryption (mine is set to WEP 128bit)
-When entering the Key (key 1) into Airport prefix it with a *"$"* ie. "*$19C7B8C383489.....*" would be your key.
This is prior to adjusting settings on the router.

This is after adjusting settings on the router.

Laptop runs slow until after suspend/resume
Ever since the update kernel 3.4 my laptop runs slow until after a suspend/resume.
It seems something has gone wrong with the power management settings from powerup, that then get corrected through the suspend/resume cycle.
Its now getting rather anoying having to suspend my machine after boot, just to be able to use it.
Does any know what the problem might be or what information I should look at to help identify it.
Here is some info on my machine:
HP Compaq 6715b, AMD Turion64 X2, ATI RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] (Actually X1300)
Linux tigger 3.4.5-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 16 21:35:54 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/LinuxPerhaps you need to disable autosuspend for the USB hub too. Try
echo -1 >/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend
for i in /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/power/autosuspend; do echo -1 > $i; done
and see if that fixes the problem. -
BT Home Hub and Airport Express
Although the BT Home Hub is 'Mac' compatible, there is still little information on using it with Airport networks. I hope that the following makes sense (I am no expert) and is useful?
Connect the Airport Express via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet 1 port of the Home Hub
Open Airport Admin Utility
Airport Tab>Base Station>enter a base station name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Mode>Create a Wireles Network(Home Router)
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Name>enter a network name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Security>enter your preferred security level and ensure it matches the Home Hub security level
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Channel>choose the same channel as your hub, do not use automatic
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Create a closed network>leave this unchecked
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Mode>if you have a mix of 11b and 11g cards leave the mode at 892.11b/g Compatible
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Options>leave these alone if you want to avoid problems
Internet Tab>Connect Using>Airport (WDS)
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>enter the MAC address of the Home Hub(i.e the primary WDS base station
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>tick the box Also allow wireless client computers
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>Configure>Using DHCP>the IP address will be assigned in the range 192.168.1.6*and the Subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and Router address should be 192.168.1.254
Network Tab>Uncheck Distribute IP addresses
WDS Tab>Enable this base station as a WDS>check this box>from the drop down list choose>remote base station
WDS Tab>Allow wireless clients on this base station>check this box
WDS Tab>Main AirPort ID> enter the MAC address of the Home Hub or use Select to scan for the Home Hub wireless network and you should pick up the MAC address etc automatically
Click to Update these settings.
Go to bthomehub.home and ensure that you have WDS dis-ABLED in the settings. You will have to log on as admin (password is defaulted to ‘admin’, but it is worth changing it!).
To do this after logging on as admin go to>Home Network>Interfaces>WLAN At this point you should be presented with Wireless Access Point click on Configure (top right) Scroll down the screen that follows and click Configure WDS and you will be presented with the Wireless screen. Click Scan for wireless access points. The BT Home hub will scan for available networks and once it has found these you should click apply but DO NOT ENABLE WDS! Click back from this screen to Home Network and you should see your wireless Mac(s) and their various connections
Best wishes and hope this works for you! My iMac/Mac Mini and PowerMac G4 now connect perfectly through the Airport Express and I have extra Extreme and Dual Ethernet Airports for printer and Windows file sharing. I am running OS X 10.4;10.3 and 10.2 variously without seeming conflict. Airport firmware is 6.3

I know from previous posting that the ABS Snow does not support WDS.
Hers is what I want to achieve, however so far, with the exception of the Mac Mini (untested/unconfigured for use with Extreme)it all works?:-
Power PC 400 AGP OS 10.2.8>Airport Extreme PCI Card>Wirelessly connect via Express(connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Mac Mini 1.4 OS 10.3.6>Ethernet>ABS Extreme>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
iMac G4 Flat panel OS 10.4>Airport Original Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Samsung PC Windows XP(SP2)>802.11G Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
All four of the above connect to the ABS Snow on a separate wireless network for file sharing and printing.(I set this up via help/info from the discussion forum and given it works without hiccup have left it as it is!)
Hope this helps and any further assistance/advice is appreciated-I am keen to get it right since the BT Home Hub is relatively new-UK based Home Hub forums http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77
Thanks,
Graham

Very slow Safari after IOS8 Iphone 5S
Hello all
I live in Iraq, so basically internet here is very slow, however after installing IOS 8, Safari now is very very slow
I tried other browsers and they were a better
any one of you guys have similar issue ?My iPad and iMac are really screaming after the update. My iPhone 4 is running more slowly. What's odd is that even with it right next to the AEBS it's running slow. The iPhone 4 is listed as 802.11 b/g/n in Airport Utility in the Advanced/Wireless Clients window. When it was running slow, the signal level was OK (actually good-about the same level as the iMac) but the noise was high so the signal to noise ratio was only between 12 and 20 dB. Also the rate was at 5 and staying there 9 (not sure what the rate number is but it was much smaller than all the others clients).
I turned WiFi OFF on the phone then back on again. When it came back, the signal to noise ratio was better (went to about 30-40 dB, and the rate went up to 58. Then after a few minutes, the signal to noise ratio went back to about 20 and the rate number dropped to 5 again.
I'm not sure what this all telling me exactly, but I agree the iPhone seems a bit slower. It's running quite a bit below my 60 day average for download and uplaod speeds - especially a ways away from the AEBS (new 5th gen). The other devices (iMac and iPad are performing as good and even a little better than their 60 day averages. -
System Slow-Down After Printing
I recently installed Mountain Lion. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a significant operating system (10.8.2) slow down after printing with my Epson R3000 printer. This happens after every printing session. When I say slow-down I mean significant delays and dreading "beachballs" when opening applications, selecting menu items or anything else I should choose to do. I'm left with re-starting the computer to get going normally again. After re-atarting I have gone to "verify permissions" and I get approx "5" pages of permission errors, all associated with the printer library in some fashion or another. I then repair all those permissions and re-start my MacPro. The operating system then works as normal and I can use the computer with no problems (until I start printing again). I mainly use the computer for photo editing with Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Lightroom 4 and Aperture 3.2.
I did not have this problem before upgrading to Mountain Lion (and then to 10.8.2). I did not get "significant" permission errors before upgrading. Since all printer drivers for this printer are handled now by Apple via the "new" Software Update process I can't even re-download the Epson printer driver and start over. I'm completely at a loss as to what, associated with the printer function, is causing these "significant" permission errors and subsequent operating system slow down. My printer is almost brand new and was working flawlessly before Mountain Lion. Let me be clear though, I can print fine. My problem is the system slow down after using the print function which I am only guessing has something to do with the "5" pages of permission errors after printting photos (with CS6/Lightroom/Aperture).
Incidently, I am not in any way a computer expert. Verifying and repairing permissions is about all I know how to do that's why I need help. I also just thought I would try the forums first before going to technical support to see what people thought about this.
Again, I repair the permission errors, re-start my system and all is fine. Any further suggestions would be deeply appreciated. When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?
What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time. -
TV no longer connects to wireless internet after installation of Airport Time Capsule
TV no longer connects to wireless Wi-Fi internet after installation of AirPort Time Capsule.
I am having a similar problem with a new TIme Capsule. The wifi on the Time Capsule was working fine for months with all devices, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iMac Air, Mac mini, and vizio smart TVs. After a recent software update the Time capsule wifi no longer connects to the smart tvs or the iPhones. It still connects to the mac mini, iPad and iMac Air. I do NOT think the software update timing was just coincidental. But I have not found any information or other users confirming a similar problem on the Apple support site.

Why are both my Mac's so slow now after upgrading to Mavericks?
I have 2 Macs, an MB Pro Core i5, & Mac Mini Mid 2010 Core 2 Duo, (both 4/320's) and both have remained significantly slower, even after indexing, unless indexing takes days upon days. I understand why the Mini may have taken a speed dip, but a Core i5 unit too?
The upgrade was done over a dysfunctional system. Do this:
Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
Re-download and reinstall Mavericks.
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
