Slow to open second PDF file with Reader X

Hi, I am having troubles since I downloaded Adobe Reader 10.0.1. The problem is when I have a PDF file already open, it takes forever to open another PDF file. Also, when I clic on an hyperlink to a PDF file in an excel sheet, it takes forever also.
Please help me as this is anoying!

Windows XP SP3 here, the very same version of Reader X (10.1.0.534) fresh install and protected mode DISABLED but the problem still exists.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. open a folder with a number of PDF files inside
2. double click on one of them: it opens in one second
3. double click on another one: it opens after 10/15 seconds
I think the problem is a sort of pre-rendering that Reader does on the selected PDF when you open them from File Explorer.
This is what's happening:
1. open task manager, Process pane.
2. open the folder with a number of PDF files inside
3. double click on one of them: it opens in one second and an AcroRd32.exe process starts. Leave the document open.
4. SELECT (not double click) another file: the task manager shows TWO additional AcroRd32.exe starting
5. when they close, double click the selected file and it opens instantly
6. SELECT another file: again, two additional AcroRd32.exe processes start. If you immediately double click the same file, it takes 10-15 seconds to open and this happens exactly when the two additional AcroRd32.exe processes stop.
7. double click another file: again, two additional processes start, the file opens exactly when the two processes close.
If you have the same files on your desktop, not in a folder, the files open instantly also ten together at the same time.
Any solution?
Max

    Hi George ,
Is it happening with all the PDF' or any specific one?
Could you please share the error message so that we can replicate at our end ?
Try repairing reader  once and see if that fixes the issue.

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)] and then try to open the file.

Are you opening them in Reader or a browser window?

  • When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes

When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes. I have to open the reader, then search for the pdf file through the reader. I'm using Adobe Reader 11.0.5 with windows 7 service pack 1 home premium. Is there any way I can just click on a PDF file and the reader automaticaly opens? I purchased the upgrade so I can convert PDF to Word but it didnt make any difference.

    Some things to try...
    Update Reader to version 11.0.06
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

An attempt to open a pdf file with Photoshop Elements (version 12) resulted in a pop generated by the Photoshop Editor stated "Impossible to execute this operation (opening file) because one of the specified colour is not managed". Is there any mean to adapt the file to make its reading possible?
Did somebody get the same problem?

It is a high order probability that your SQL's report generator is creating the PDF, not Acrobat (which by design and EULA cannot be used in as/with server).
That the report generator outputs to an old-old version of PDF bears this out.
Wiki articles on PDF are very nice for those high level intro summaries.
To know / understand PDF you purchase and study the ISO Standard for PDF (ISO 32000-1:2008).
Rather than "PDF validation" you may want to consider addressing the appearent root cause of the problem(s).
You can change the email2fax application to one that can deal with older PDF versions.
You can change the report generator to one that can output to the ISO Standard.
(Perhaps the in-use application can be configured to output to the current version of PDF (i.e., the ISO Standard).
    Be well...

Subject: WHEN I TRY TO OPEN A PDF FILE, THE READER OPENS  HUNDREDS OF MULTIPLE BLANK PAGES .
Something is definitely wrong with your install of Reader.
A PDF consists of only the number of pages it was created with.  Reader can and will only open those pages... IF it's installed and working properly.
Opening multiple blank pages from a document which contains none is a clear sign that the software isn't functioning. It's like putting a movie into a DVD player, and your TV starts a picture slide show of your last Summer's vacation. Not possible unless there's something seriously wrong.
    Uninstall Reader 9.
Use either Adobe's clean uninstaller or Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2. exe) to remove all Reader installer files from your system.
Reinstall Reader 9 from a new download (do not use the old one if you still have it on your system)

  • Cannot open any pdf file with safari

download adobe acrobat reader for free,  saves all PDF files and ideally open under Acrobat
there are much more options for using and viewing the options native in Acrobat than in Safari, obviously.

  • I need to send an email where the recipient opens the PDF file with a password,   can anybody help me and show me how to do that

Hello,  I am trying to send an email where the recipient opens the PDF file with a password,   can anybody show me how to do that

    Hi surez,
To password protect a PDF file, you need to use Acrobat. If you don't have Acrobat, you can try it for free for 30 days. See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.
In Acrobat, you choose File > Properties when the document is open, and then click the Security tab to set up a password.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Slow opening of .pdf files - Adobe Reader XI

I have Adobe Reader XI - when I go to open a .pdf file (small file sizes like 17KB even) - the file takes about 45 seconds to open.  How do I get it to open faster?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the reader but that didn't work.

See if you have anything on your system slowing things down. Try turning off your virus protection. If you have no protection, install some and have it look for virus or spyware. Those are the most common things to slow a computer down.
