Slow Transfer Speeds For File Transfer Manager 5.0 Build 0032

I have a 20Mbit internet connection. When I download from the Microsoft download site I can get files downloading at reported speeds of up to 1.7 Mbytes per second.
When downloading from the TechNet Benefits section I have to use the Transfer Manager and I can only get speeds that vary between 30-80 Kbytes per second. Rarely any faster.
I am using XPPro & IE7 straight out onto the Internet via my router / firewall. No proxy server.
What can I do to speed the process up or bypass the File Download Manager?
Regards.

Thanks for your feedback Tekky.  FYI there is also a forum specifically for TechNet Website Feedback which is the more appropriate place for TechNet Subscriptions questions at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en/tnfeedback/threads/
There are many suggestions in this post about improving your network speeds when downloading from MSDN and TechNet subscriptions sites.  Here is one more place to look for tips, which we have linked to from our Downloads and Product Keys FAQ (MSDN version, TechNet version):
The website for the Microsoft File Transfer Manager, particularly their troubleshooting page which includes additional discussion on configuring the FTM and on slow transfer speeds.
As Julie stated above, you can call TechNet Customer support and they can take you through some additional troubleshooting and diagnostic steps to assist.  Julie has linked to the support phone numbers in her reply.

Can anyone please tell the steps for file transfer with FTPS.
Does PI file adapter has bulilt in feauture to handle this? or
Do we need to deploy anything to handle this?
Do we need to install any certificates by requesting from partner or It will do the encryptions/authentications on its own?
Any additional Steps we need to mention in File receiver adapter while we send the file through FTPS?
File is going through port 1090(unsecure connection) but it is not going through port (990) which is a secure connection.
    Please suggest me.

    Hi Shabarish,
We got the certificate from the partner and loaded into the trusted CA's. I tried running by giving
Connectivity Security as "FTPS for Control and Data Connection" and Command Order as "AUTH TLS,USER,PASS,PBSZ,PROT"
    Ip: XXX.YY.YY.ZZZ
    Port: 990
    User and pwd.
and I am getting the same below error

Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then put this link on the drive:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first.

  • Too slow transfer speed for Toshiba 3.0

    Hi there
i just purchased a toshiba 3.0 external hdd.
    I use windows 7 genuine.
My pc specs are pretty ok cos i am able to run heavy games like crysis 2.
The problem is, My external hdd has slow transfer rates. This problem i started facing aroung 3 months ago. My hdd is out of warranty.
My USB ports are ok and i connect it to primary port.
The transfer speeds are just around 10MBPS and sometimes it drops to KBPS!!!!
Also, it does not copy some files and gives error "Failed to read from source disk" or something like that.
There is no Virus in it, I have enabled write-cache. I have defragged it.
My OS is fine and also, i checked it on other OSes.
Also, i have tried using "check disk for errors" with proper procedure but it hangs somewhere in the middle after it processes 500000 sectors or so.
I got my HDD from my cousin as he no more used PC and without any cover so i dont have any idea of model (although if there is any utility to find model then please notify me).
Also, it worked fine during then. Me and my cousin are from India only.
How can i fix this issue?
    Please help me.

  • TC - Painfully Slow for file transfer. How to solve it (PC + MAC) ?

I have a dell laptop and a mac book air, both connected to my TC. Transferring files is a joke. I am a novei mac user. How can this slowness issue be fixed for both the pc and mac? As I am writing this, i am currently doing a software update on my macbook air, getting 10.5.3 now. Does this solve it?

    Similar problem here.
iMac using 802.11n to connect to time capsule. Time capsule configured to use 802.11n (b/g compat), and WPA/WPA2 security.
Typical transfer rate (file transfer from imac to tc) of about 2Mbps. After reboot of the TC, speed can sometimes hit 6Mbps.
I have played with the security settings. After a softboot with new config:
    - no security, 802.11n mode: 12Mbps throughput
    - WEP security, 802.11n mode: 8Mbps
    - WPA/WPA2 security, 802.11n mode: 6Mbps
Enabling interference robustness seems to have little or no effect.
All of these speeds are significantly lower than what I'd expect.
No other devices were on the wireless network during the testing.
I've read that alot of others are having similar issues. I suspect that most of these devices are running extremely slowly, but most people aren't bothering to check throughput.
Would love to know if there is a real fix out there. 802.11n should be much much faster than this. If I could reconfigure the TC to use 802.11g, I would.

  • 8900 to imac bluetooth connection for file transfer

Hello,  I  have a brand new curve 8900 javelin and a new IMAC.  Both devices can see each other and I can manage to get a green connection light however it only lasts a few seconds and then disconnects.  Can someone please tell me how to overcome this problem?
    thank you

That's really weird, the different ways that the providers cripple the same phone. I do not need any plug-in for BT iSync but I can't do file transfer with BT or with USB (I do have a microSD card installed). Unfortunately, I have no use for iSync. I can also use the phone to provide Internet access for my Mac but the Mac is a desktop and a hardwired connection makes more sense.
The USB connection is really frustrating. Profiler knows that the phone is present and the phone knows that the Mac is present (the battery does charge) but otherwise it's as if it's not even connected.
I am able to put the card into a card reader and transfer files that way. I don't mind all that much but it's not easy getting the card out of the phone.
By the way, there are several RAZR versions. Is your "V3XX" the same phone as my "V3m?"

  • EJB Design  Pattren For File Transfer Application

    hi,
My requirement is Transfer of large files (around 300-500KB) across the network with a central repository. We looking at a Solution from J2EE With EJBs.
At the Central Repository we are looking for ejb-Application Server. But the the issues i come acorss for my requirement are
1.I need to store and access Files on the local hard Disk with ejbs
    >> But ejb spec won't allow to access the local file System
2.Based on the certain rukes i need to forward the files to different location
    >> But ejb Won't allow to use Sockets in EJB.
I Want to know is there any work around in EJB to meet my requirements.
Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.
    Regards
    Srinivas

Thanks For Your Feedback. I Will Explain my Requirement more elobarate.
Our System Arch Looks like this
    The Current System
    |--MiniServ1--Client
    Source---Central Server--|--MiniServ2 --Clients
    | |--MiniServ3--Clients
    Data Base
    ------ Bidirectional Link
Central Server --With database about all the transcations through the System
Mini Serv*--with Storage info of teh files came to that Server
Where Source / End Elients are Windows Based Clients(Developed in VC++)
The File Size Transfering across different Sources is of Size around 0.5 MB.At the Central Server these Files Will be Stored on the local hard Disk.At Centarl Server based on Some Rules it will be routed through different Mini Servers(Mini Serv*).Mini Server Will Send the file to different Clients. After Working on the files the files will be send back to the central Server via the Mini Server*.At the Central Server we have the latest Copy of the File
Currently Entire System Based on Windows and Central Server Built using COM Components Running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
    The Problem
We Want to port the existing Sytem in java with out touching the Source and End Clients. We thought of replacing the Central Server with J2EE Application Serevr and COM Components with EJBS.But in Ejb we can't write to Local System and can't use sockets to send the files to MiniServers.
Is there Any Work Around for the mentioned problem using java?

  • Alert Configuartion for File Transfer

    Hello,
I need some pointers in setting up the alerts for the file transfer for the given two scenarios -
    1. An alert is generated everytime the polling fails i.e. the file adapter does not find a file to be read
    2. An alert is generated when the file is transferred. I am just doing the file transfer so I am not using the message interface.
One option for this is to generate the mail by using JMS adapter, but I would prefer alert creation.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Mayank

    Hi,
With Alert Framework you can apply the alert notifications wherever the file transfer in XI will failed.
    Refer
XI : How to Re-Process failed XI Messages Automatically
XI :  How to Re-Process failed XI Messages Automatically
XI: Alerts - Step by step
The specified item was not found.
For successfull messages there will not be the alert notification  available. But as its mentioned by Amir, you can send mail confirmation with mail adapter, or can go for JMS adapter for sending the successful messages.
    Thanks

  • Speeding Up File Transfer on Time Capsule?

I just bought the 2TB time capsule.  I would like to transfer my iPhoto Library to the TC but for 117 GB it is telling me that it will take 120+ hours to complete.  It appears to be transferring data at about 1KB every 15 seconds.  I have a MacBook Pro (10.6.8).  I have tried connecting the TC to the MBP with a Cat 6 ethernet cable but I have not noticed any major difference between that and the wireless connection.  Another thing to note is that I get a message saying my Airport Utility (version 5.6.1) is an old version and I need to update, but the latest update is only for Mountain Lion.  I don't mind waiting a long time to do this major file transfer....but 5 days seems a little too long.    I have read other discussions but I need the "Time Capsule for Dummies version".  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to switch the time capsule to being the Time Machine device
    Yes
(how do I transfer the time machine data from the external HD to the time capsule?)
It is really complicated....I haven't tried it, but know that you will not be able to transfer the backups and then keep backing up to that same file. Time Machine will start another new complete backup when you set up Time Machine to backup to the Time Capsule.
If it were me, I would hold onto the backups on the hard drive for a few weeks or even a month or two.  Then, erase the drive unless you really need all those backups from months ago.
Also, I didn't realize that time machine would also backup another hard drive as well.
That is a major feature of Time Machine.
Will TM do this simultaneously or do you have to select the drive?
You have to tell Time Machine to backup the drive by selecting it in Time Machine Options.

  • Bluetooth - any hope for file transfer in near future???

    Hi,
Presently iPhone 4 does not allow bluetooth file transfer to other mobile devices and even my PC.
I am not interested in illegal music/video transfer but genuinely transferring my data files between pc and other mobile devices and use it like a mobile storage device. I don't like the idea of mailing my file and then downloading it again when I have both devices in my hand! It's not helpful when other devices do not have internet connection or limited internet usage.
Please let me know if apple policies would allow it to make file transfer possible in near future (except music and video). Otherwise it would greatly reduce its usability for me.
*I hate its file storing and transferring features.*
*Another reason for hating iPhone is 'Flash'.*
Apart from this, its simply superb.

Why is something so simple its available on 10 year old Nokia 3310 bricks not available on an iPhone. Its ridiculous.
Because there is nowhere to put the files on an iPhone. There is no common file storage area on an iPhone that all apps can access. Each app sits in a sandbox for security purposes. Each app can only access its own files. You would have to have an app running where the files would go, and then the files would only be available to that app.
The old Nokia has a common file area and does not have the security the iPhone does, but then 10 years ago you probably did not need the security.

  • Transfer speeds for internal drive/FireWire

I have a 2 yr old PowerMac G5 with a single 160 Gb hard drive, so I have an internal drive bay available that has a 150 MBps SATA controler. Does that mean I won't get the expected speed from one of the big Seagate or Maxtor internal SATA drives with 1.5 or 3 Gbps transfer capacity?
If that's true, would I get faster transfers using an external drive via FireWire 800?
    Thanks!

The maximum transfer speed of the 1.5 Gbps is actually about 1.2 Gbps (80% efficiency), or 150 MBps. So, in theory the 3 Gbps interface would be about twice as fast.
However, no single drive can achieve throughput at even the 1.2 Gbps level, so you're really not missing anything if you put in a drive with a 3 Gbps interface on it.
FW800 is 800 Mbps or 100 MBps at 100% efficiency. Real world transfer speeds would be in the 80MBps range at best. That's also a pretty tough speed to reach for a single drive. My 10,000 rpm 150GB Raptor drive can benchmark at or above that level, but many drives won't be able to.

  • Is Samsung Kies or Android File Transfer recommended for file transfers from my OSX 10.9.4 to samsung note 2 and back?

appreciate if someone can tell me which is more user friendly, and if AFT is compatible with other android phones, that can only be a plus.
remember using kies on my pc in past and didnt remember it being that user friendly. please comment
    thanks in advance

Neither.  Kies is absolute rubbish and fails to connect to my Samsung S4 Mini. Ever.
Android File transfer doesn't work on Mavericks either.
I use wi-fi file transfer.  Not the worlds best user interface, I'll grant you but it works just fine.
