Slow turn off and turn off time - 3.0
Hey guys! I have this "Problem" that whenever I turn on the phone, it would show the Apple sign as normal, but then it disappears and after 50 seconds to a minute, it would show my screen. The same thing happens at turn off, only the phone would display nothing, then the spinning gear will show after 50 seconds to a minute. Is this a problem or something normal? Thanks!
I suggest you perform a reset.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Slow Internet off Time Capsule?
Can anyone suggest what I can do to increase the download speed off of an Xplornet IP The capsule is painfully slow.

Both the TC and the AX are broadcasting the same network at the same power. Your computer will automatically connect to the device with the strongest signal. In most cases, unless there are obstructions, the computer will connect to the closest.
+How would I make this 5 GHz network? Is it automatically configured when I setup my network?+
We don't even want to talk about this unless you have an Express(n). The Express that you have is not capable of participating in a 5 GHz network. If you set the TC up for 5 GHz, your current Express would be non-functional in your network and it would mess up the WDS settings that you have now.
If you get a new Express(n) both the TC and the Express will have to be reconfigured from scratch. If you want a preview of this process, reference pages 43-44 in this guide, but do not change anything there.

This may or may not improve your situation. With wireless, there are no guarantees, you just have to keep trying as no two situations are ever the same. -
Ultra Slow start up and Log In times
Hi,
Today, i turned my computer on, and did what i usually do in the mornings. Then, I Selected Shut Down, from the apple window. Everything dissapeared from my screen, except the mouse, which is normal. so i left it. But when i came home, it hadnt changed. So, i turned it off manually. THEN, when i turned it back on, it took me 10 minutes go get to a state where i could start using the computer.Welcome to Discussions - have you tried to restart again>

Xcode causing slow start up and shut down times
Hi,
Before installing Xcode my mac had a start up time of no more then 30 seconds and shutdown 5 seconds, since installing Xcode these have changed to 1 minute 15 seconds for start up and 10 seconds to shut down. Is this normal? My friends mac has done the exact same thing, is there any way to fix this without removing xcode?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I have Xcode installed on my Mac but haven't noticed that it affects startup or shutdown times. Perhaps that's because I've had Xcode installed for a long time.
As far as I can tell Xcode has no "helper" applications that might slow startup or shutdown. You might look at the "Login Items" list in the Accounts panel of System Preferences to verify that.
I'd also launch the Console utility and search for any messages during the time your Mac is starting or shutting down to see if you can see anything that explains what you're seeing. -
Safari slow loading, iTunes and System Update time out
The other day I found that Safari started taking a very long time to load pages. Yet, Firefox loads pages normally. Then, I found out that my iTunes podcasts were not being updated. The error states that the network connection timed out. Trying a Software Update, i sometimes get that there is a network problem. During all of these problems, Mail and Firefox continue to work fine.
It appears that iTunes and Safari are working at my work place. At home and work, I use the same airport settings but have different vintages of airports. So, it is either a problem with my ISP at home (cox.net) or airport. However, another laptop computer didn't have these probelm. So, I am still confused as to the source of the problem.

Qt4 updated to 4.8.7: Slow text scrolling and higher load time.
System is fully upgraded, and i just noticed that every qt4 application has become incredibly slow when using QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native (slow dolphin scrolling, slow konsole scrolling)
It is probably related to text antialiasing, because if i disable subpixel hinting in konsole, it start to scroll fast.
Reverting back to 4.8.6 fixes it.
I want to use native instead of raster because:
1) when used remotely via x2go and ssh, qt apps are very fast using QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native
2) with QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native one is able to retain RGB subpixel hinting even over trasparent windows.
I'm using nvidia-340xx 340.76 with a geforce 9800GT and freetype2-infinality 2.4.12-2 if it matters.
Anybody can help please?

This does not seem to be related to an update of the xorg-server, nor to the graphic driver; i notice the same behaviour when using a remote (fast) vnc connection.
I bet it is a QT4 bug; someone could test please?

All qt4 apps with text edit widgets are now slower to open, even with raster graphicssystem.
Gambas3 ide takes 6 seconds to start; on 4.8.6 it starts in 2 seconds here.

Mavericks slow start up and shut down
Hi everyone,
I have a late-2011 macbook pro with OSX 10.9.5 running on it. Ever since I updated to Mountain Lion my machine has had very slow shut down and start up times. This has persisted since I updated to Mavericks. My shut down time is about 30-45 sec. My start up today was 1 min 30 sec, with another 1 min just to open up Safari. I have tried a number of things to fix it, but nothing has worked and it's incredibly annoying. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with this.

Very Slow Internet Connection and Backups
I have had a Time Capsule for some time now (1st generation) and it has caused nothing but headaches. I have put up with it for some time but I have a very slow internet connection and cannot leave Time Machine on or it bogs down my machine, so I only backup periodically. Specifics are provided below.
I have a poor internet connection to begin with. When plugged in directly either to my modem or through Ethernet to the Time Capsule, I get download speeds of ~ 2.9 Mbits/sec download, 0.7 Mbits/sec upload. When connected over wireless, the speeds drop to about 0.6 Mbits/sec download, 0.6 Mbits/sec upload. I feel like I am working on dial-up. I have both a Mac and a PC, and speeds are the same on both, so it does not appear to be a computer issue. I have played with various settings in the Airport, including how connected (b-n or n only), DHCP settings, etc, but nothing makes a difference. Have you downloaded a utility like iStumbler to get a look at the signal strength and noise on your wireless network?
iStumbler will display most of the other wireless networks around you, so you'll have an idea of the competition for unused channels. Ideally, you want your network to be on a channel that is at least 4-5 channels away from any other network to minimize the chances of wireless interference. Is that the case there?
Your signal strength should be 50% or greater and noise less than 10% for a good quality connection on your network. Is that the case there?
There are more things to test, but this will get things going. -

The iOs 5.1 is a huge file that needs to be dowloaded when updating/restoring, your phone hasnt completed the update so its now in recovery mode. Look on the left of itunes, it should say downloads under the store section with a spinning wheel, click that and youll see the update file with a time remaining, wait for that download to finish then try the restore again and it should work

Up/Down Arrow keys do not perform their function on SOME websites or at SOME times, on other websites and at other times these keys work fine, updated firefox, restarted computer. turned off cursor key option in Advanced tab, using autoscrolling option.

My dad gave me an iPhone 3G to use as an ipod touch but it's not picking up wifi. ive tried everything to like reseting the network settings turning wi fi off and on mutable times, turned the phone off on and on. What do i do?
the iphone never really picked up wi fi when it was used as a phone and it didnt really matter because he had unlimited internet but it still wont go on wi fi. does any one know why it is doing this?
The iphone works fine other wise i just really want it to go on wi fi. We just got new wi fi too and all of our other apple products go on the wi fi just fine. I dont know if its because its newer or what but my brothers 1st gen ipod goes on wi fi just fine.

My iPad 4 no longer recognizes my Zagg keyboard. Turned it off and on several times. One suggestion in manual is a dead battery. Where is a battery on a Zagg case? The iPad battery is fully charged and Bluetooth is on and the Zaggkeys PROfolio is listed but says NOT CONNECTED. What else should I try?

When I plug a LaCie external hard drive to work with Time Machine into my new Mac mini, [OS 10.9.1] it drastically effects the performance of the internet and email, turn off Time Machine, unplug the hard drive, internet and email go back to normal. Why?

My Apple TV (2) works fine with my iPad and iPhone.
My iTunes syncs with my iPad and iPhone.
I have turned "Home Sharing" off and on multiple times - of course using the same AppleID - and NOTHING shows up under Shared (and then Shared goes away) and NOTHING shows up under "Computers" on Apple TV?
Why aren't Apple TV and iTunes smart enought to work with each other on the same network? This should not be this difficult...I think I am having the same problem.
My issue: since updating the software on ATV, I get an issue where shortly after starting a movie or video of some sort streaming from iTunes on my iMac the vid stops and Apple TV tells me that I need to connect to my Home Sharing account. Sometimes I can fix it by turning Home Sharing off and back on in my settings. Sometimes I need to completely reboot the AppleTV!
Any suggestions??? -
