Slow typing firefox 12 support forum

My web pages update just fine and my scroll bars go up and down fast enough. But, typing in many text boxes is unacceptably slow. This text box that I am typing in right now is an example. I am often typing 10-20 characters ahead on the displayed text, and I don't type particularly fast. It takes a long time to step the cursor back through the text to correct mistakes, although mouse clicks do change the cursor position quickly. I have this problem with many other text boxes too.
I looked in the support notes for help and found a recommendation to reset Firefox to its default state. However, when I bought up the trouble shooting Information page, there was no "reset" button. This problem occurred when I updated to 12.0 from 3.6. I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I think I am on a 32 bit processor. The "86" stuff. I am running Java 6 update 32.
Please help!

Disabling the hardware acceleration helped quite a bit. And definitely running it on safe mode makes it better.
Is there a way to always run firefox on safe mode?

  • Firefox Support forum web page doesn't show any text

All other web pages load perfectly except Firefox Support Forum. It shows only search box and some tag words. When I type into search box, nothing shows but when I hit enter I get only tag words that I typed. I've tried reinstalling FF and started in safe mode. Nothing fixes it. I've been trying to figure this out for months. I've tried Chrome and IE8. Evidently its not a browser problem. I'm using Vista Home Premium SP2. I'm sending this from my XP, no problem with it.

    cor-el
fixed, thanks for your help with this.
Please advise if there is there any reason to be concerned about changing this from the default setting.

  • Text on Firefox Support Forum is too faint to read.

When I go to Firefox Support Forum the text is either in faint gray instead of black, or some faint pastel color instead of high contrast color, and both are hard to read.

You can use the NoSquint extension to set text and background colors.

  • Firefox 8.0 freezes and is very slow. Please continue supporting Firefox 3.6.24 .

I am using Windows Vista , latest updates. I am using Firefox 3.6.24 and I am very satisfied with it. Some months ago, you offered me to download Firefox 4. I had done this. But afterwards, I could no longer see the TV on http://bugu.cntv.cn/ . Other people in China had said the same. I am learning Chinese and therefore do need to have this ChineseTV website. I reinstalled Firefox 3.6.24 and it works very well. Now in November 2011, after you had offered me several times Firefox 8.0, today I had installed Firefox 8.0 twice. But it is defective. Though now, it does play TV on http://bugu.cntv.cn/ . But the vertical scroll bar on the right side and the scroll bars in the middle on the monitor do not move (freezed) except when a website is enlarged on the whole monitor. The other problem is that Firefox 8.0 is slow, it is much slower than Firefox 3.6.24 . Please continue supporting Firefox 3.6.24 . It is better than Firefox 8.0.

The slow / hesitant scrolling problem seems to be an artifact of the database Firefox uses to keep track of where you go, what you do, etc. It uses sqlite databases which get fragmented over time.
    There are several fixes:
Some are add-ons and work internally, such as Vacuum Places (search the addons for it).
Some are external. Speedyfox is one I just tried, and found to work quite well. I think it did a better job than Vacuum Places, but requires Firefox to be shut down before it can work properly.
Find Speedyfox using a web search.

  • How to become a Mozilla Firefox Support Forum Moderator.

I am very sorry to ask this here. I asked this here because I don't know where to ask. I am a Contributor in the Mozilla Support forum Top Contributors list. Many of the Top contributors are Moderators. I would like to be a Moderator too. However I don't know what to do to become a Moderator.

Even if the need is there, you might need more total support postings before being asked. I was coming here to contribute for over a year and a half ''(the first year was very infrequent, like once a week for a few hours)'', and had more than 1000 support postings before I was asked. The "counter" was reset with the forum software upgrade back in July 2010, so a lot of us have far more postings than shown now. My total was a shade over 30,000 before, and IIRC, '''co-rel''' had in excess of 100,000 at the end of July. Other contributors counts I don't recall.

  • Yahoo Mail extremely slow on Firefox 12

Yahoo Mail works fine in IE9 but is extremely slow on Firefox 12 after applying Java update 7.11 patch. Please advise on how to fix the issue.

Yo soci888! Why are you on Firefox 12? All the cool people are on Firefox 18 now. Time to upgrade and join the crew. Check out this upgrade link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version
Here is another suggested solution from another solver:
"I had the same problem. Opening Firefox in Safe mode cured it, so I knew it had to be a setting or plugin of some sort....I did all the recommended fixes and nothing changed the typing being real slow and behind when running in normal mode.
What fixed it for me is turning off the hardware acceleration option in Firefox. Here's how: Click on Firefox->Options->Advanced->General tab. Then uncheck the checkbox "Use hardware acceleration when available". Click OK. Hope it works for you. Good luck!"

  • Can't access Aperture support forum

Hi all, not sure whether this is the right place to report a problem with the Aperture Support forum - I couldn't find anywhere to report the problem so posted here. When I try to enter it I get the following error message
    "Unsupported Browser detected.
Announcement: Apple Support Communities has discontinued support for your current browser.
In order to provide the best platform for continued innovation, Apple Support Communities suggests using the latest version of Safari."
I am using Safari Version 7.1 (9537.85.10.17.1) and I can access the other forums without any problem.
    Thanks in advance

I just got this too, on Firefox, in Private Browsing mode. I was trying to access How to remove Adware? when it redirected to the same page as fleetwood reported. I've attached a screenshot. I'm using Firefox 33.0 on Mavericks 10.9.5. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this either.
UPDATE: The link works fine now.

  • How do you find what you posted to the support forum?

Last night I posted a question about Firefox being unable to load certain https URLs, but now I can't find it. I would like to be able to find it to see if anyone has made any helpful replies. In the forum settings, I have the following checkboxes:
    Watch forum threads I start:
Watch forum threads I comment in:
Watch KB discussion threads I start:
Watch KB discussion threads I comment in:
    Send emails for private messages:
All of the above settings are checked, but I can't find where in the interface for these forums I should go to view the threads and comments that I am "watching."
I will bookmark this present support topic so that I can return to it later.
thank you for any help you can provide!

ha ha ha oh my god...
okay, thank you for the help... I see what the problem is... this web site's UI has a shortcoming...
    this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/home
appears to be the home page of the forums... but it is not....
the home page of the forums is buried in a link off to the side in a list labeled "For Contributors"... I mean... by seeking help in the forums, I'm now a "contributor"? ehhh... English... It'd be nice if the UI designers would use it...
the home page to the forums is found via this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
See... whoever named that URL had the right idea... instead of
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/contributors , the person used:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
hmmm.... now if the heading on the right said:
    "For people with questions"
then I would have scanned it more closely, and I would have noticed "Support Forum Home" in the list.
I think the fact that so many people use Firefox is really a testament to how bad the other software out there really is, not to how good the Firefox stuff is or how responsive the firefox people are... E.g. is anyone going to actually learn from my above experience, and make the support forums easier to find?
Is anyone going to actually put a link to the forums in the dashboard for the account that is used to log into the forums?
    No, not a chance...
I mean, yes, I get that the link to the forums home page is always in the footer at the right, but come on, for crying out loud... so are stupid advertisements... it's a footer or side bar or whatever you want to call it... people are trained on a subconscious level, by now, to ignore that crap. If you were going to design a forum, would you take the most important links, and put them off to the side, where they are less likely to be noticed?
This is what I see when I bring up my dashboard:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/630258
I mean, if you are a small time developer, with a few thousand users, you probably don't have the time or the resources to make something that's optimal... but when you have millions upon millions of users... optimizing your interface might be worth looking into.... you know... auditing the performance and effectiveness of your UI now and again might be a good idea... You take the few minutes that you waste a user with a confusing counter-intuitive non-standards-based interface, and you multiply that by millions of users, and what can I say... that's a *lot* of waste.
You don't even have an index of forum content... everything is found by searching... Imagine if you walked into a library, and they had NO catalog.. Instead, all books just tossed into a database, and the only way to find anything is by searching. That would be... just incredibly stupid.... That is what this forum interface is.

  • Slow typing problem

I am having a problem where the type on the screen in Pages 2 can't keep up with my typing speed. I only type about 40-40 words per minutes. This was not a problem in Pages 1. Help...

    Hello Appraiser,
there are a lot of posts about this issue in this forum. To maximize the respond of Pages is to:
    1) Hide the thumbnail view with the menu: "View/Show(Hide) Thumbnails".
    2) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables, use the wrap option "follow contour" and not "rectangle" in the bottom section of the wrap inspector.
    3) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables with the fix positioned oprion set, Pages has to recalculate a lot the text positiones, because there is heavy text flow in long sections. Try to avoid that.
Do a search for "slow typing", there are more advices and suggestions.
    Frank.

  • Jquery slider and effects works slow in firefox in comparision with Chrome and IE.

I am working on HTML conversion of a website and following all the standards. But the jquery banners and sliders are working very slow in Firefox in comparison with Chrome and IE. I tested it on different servers, but result is same.

A good place to ask advice about web development is at the MozillaZine "Web Development/Standards Evangelism" forum.

  • Why can I not find the support forums??

I thought mozilla firefox was superior for a long time until today. It may still be the best browser but this website is unacceptable. I mean how do you expect people to find the support forums. The is no link, no nothing on the mozilla support home page. I mean all I wanted to do was go and find my question in the support forums, sure I can go to my profile and find my question from there, but i should be able to navigate to the forums and my question without having to go through the idiotic process you people have laid forth. Unless you guys can provide a reasonable explanation for your thinking then you really need to make a link to the support forums on at least the SUPPORT HOME PAGE. I mean for real it is the SUPPORT HOME PAGE after all, i cannot stress that enough.

On https://support.mozilla.org look at top for Contributor Tools in which it lists "Support Forum Home" among other things.
When you are on support.mozilla.org/questions you can click on "My contributions" near top. You may want to select All questions to make sure all of your posts are listed with most recent activity threads being listed first.

  • IE slower than Firefox

    Hi Guys,
do you know why IE 7 is so much slower than Firefox to finish loading the convergence page ?
we can see at the bottom of IE 7 how the elements (ex.. 30 items remaining) are loading and with Firefox there isn't delay at all.
is there a solution or reason for this?
Note: I'm using the latest SCS 7, and it was the same case with SCS 6.
    thanks a lot

    KenGra wrote:
do you know why IE 7 is so much slower than Firefox to finish loading the convergence page ?IE7 is a poorly written browser client, especially for javascript intensive sites such as Convergence.
    For a little context:
IE7 was released in October 2006 with Firefox 2 released around the same time.
IE8 was released in March 2009 with Firefox 3.5 released around the same time.
Are you comparing Firefox 2 performance with IE7 or a more recent release of Firefox?
we can see at the bottom of IE 7 how the elements (ex.. 30 items remaining) are loading and with Firefox there isn't delay at all. Most of the Convergence files (images/javascript/css etc.) should be cached so the first time Convergence is accessed it will need to download a number of items.
Also have you implemented the Convergence performance tuning steps:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Convergence+Performance+Tuning
Specifically the "Enhancing Browser-Side Caching of Static Files" and "Configuring Application Server to Compress Files Sent to the Client"?
is there a solution or reason for this?
Convergence 2 may provide performance improvements but only time will tell. In the mean time I would advise getting a copy of Convergence patch 13 (you need to log a Sun support request) and trying that.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • Forgot my support forum username

This applies to the whole support forum on support.mozilla.com. I have an old account on support.mozilla.com. The username was my email address. I tried to log in with that username and the old password and it was rejected. I asked for a password reset, reset the password, got to a login page, put in the old username (email address) and new password, and it was rejected. I tried to create a new account, and it said there was already an account with that email address. I had to create a new account with an alternate email address. I tried to log into the new account with my email address as username, and it was rejected. It only takes the short username. Apparently I need a username to log in to the old account, but it doesn't have a username. Am I forever locked out of using my preferred email address for the Firefox support forum and forever destined to use a secondary email address? Or can you send me a valid username for that account?

Much obliged, indeed, Roger. I almost cancelled my post after calculating my probability of eventual joy as roughly 0.0%. If this works out for me, I'll be sure to add about that same % to your points :)
(No offense intended, but it looks like that's the limit of "This solved my question".)
