Slow typing in DW CS6 / OSX?

Is anybody experiencing really slow typing in DW CS6 on a Mac?
Regardless of what I type, the code only apears at a rate of 3 characters per second!  Does anybody know what may be causing this?  Is it an incompatability, a bug, or some rendering issue???
I'm running this on an old MacPro1,1 / NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB with 8GB Ram, SSD drives OSX Lion 10.7.3.
This slow behaviour is not noticed on other CS6 apps...
The purchased product was an upgrade - downloaded from Adobe:
Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium (Mac,English)
Looking forward to a resolution, as it's pretty terrible.
Luis.

Hi again,
(purchased version)
MacPro 1,1 : 2.66GHz 4 core (the original problematic machine)
I've just upgraded to OS X 10.7.4, and it appears to be much better (possibly a combination of the reboot!).
The typing is now only slightly slow - not too bad at my typing speed, but it could annoy faster typers.  Still - it's much faster than 3 characters per second.
The CPU usage, however still remains.
Within the body tag of a new html file, if I type any text the CPU usage for the Dreamweaver process leaps from 1.5% to 58%.
Again, this drops down the second I stop typing, and goes back up when I resume.
I have no DW CS6 extensions enabled on this machine.
NOTE: When I returned to DW6 to disable the RELATED FILES option, it had gotten really slow again (so it slowed down after some time passed).
Disabling the Related Files Option seemed to fix that slowness, but then that required a re-launch which could have masked the elapsed time bug (possibly a memory leak?).
HOWEVER, the CPU usage remains very high whilst typing, regardless of perceived slowness, or status of RELATED FILES option.
On a slower, but newer MacPro 4,1 : 2.26GHz 8 core ; running 10.6.8 with same SSD & RAM, the fresh installation runs quickly (without post-install reboot) and the CPU only goes to 20% whilst typing in the same situation.
I have no DW CS6 extensions installed on this machine.
I have an old MacBook Pro 2,2, also on SSD with 2GB RAM currently on 10.7.3  I'll do some tests on it when I get a moment, but this may have to wait until next week.

After upgrading from acrobat 9.5 to XI pro my users have complained on slow typing when filling in form that were created in version 9.5?
The issue is they type but there is 2 second delay when it appears in the field.
    Windows 7 64bit

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

  • Information on the "slow typing" issue

I think I've uncovered a (maybe the) cause of the slow typing complaints that's worthy of a new topic. I had severe problems with the trifold brochure, and found that some other templates also were "slow typing" templates. After reading all the posts here, with at least a dozen different fixes, none of which fixed my particular probelm, I started experimenting. What I found was interesting.
All my problems with slow typing (seeing the results of key presses show up on-screen seconds after the event) were traced to one single problem - a table format. When text flowed around a table with its Text Fit choice as "Wrap text to follow a square border", typing was slow. With the Text Fit choice changed to "Wrap text to follow the contour", typing was fast. Seems too simple.
This change made a HUGE difference in the trifold brochure, and a noticeable difference in a couple of the others that I tried. Some tables, especially those with pictures, not text, are disguised and not easy to recognize, so if you're having the notorious "slow typing" problem, look carefully at tables in your document as a possible cause.

I am a scientist who needs to write grants and papers with long text sections and embedded figures. I LOVE the way Pages handles graphics but even with a 12 page document with 3 small tables and 2 figures I am waiting 10-20 seconds for the typing to catch up (doing all the suggestions in these threads)! Together with the fact that there is no direct link to referencing programs like Endnote (which I am forced to use to interact with PC-based colleagues) makes Pages decidedly less useful than the Phantom Menace - MS Word. That beast uses 1/3 the CPU percentage and works faster in general than this lean, mean, Apple product. NOTE TO APPLE: Please please please bring users like me back from the dark side!!

  • Slow typing problem

I am having a problem where the type on the screen in Pages 2 can't keep up with my typing speed. I only type about 40-40 words per minutes. This was not a problem in Pages 1. Help...

    Hello Appraiser,
there are a lot of posts about this issue in this forum. To maximize the respond of Pages is to:
    1) Hide the thumbnail view with the menu: "View/Show(Hide) Thumbnails".
    2) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables, use the wrap option "follow contour" and not "rectangle" in the bottom section of the wrap inspector.
    3) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables with the fix positioned oprion set, Pages has to recalculate a lot the text positiones, because there is heavy text flow in long sections. Try to avoid that.
Do a search for "slow typing", there are more advices and suggestions.
    Frank.

  • Slow Typing

I kind of solved this problem, but I would also like to know if there are better solutions.
A couple weeks ago I encountered really slow typing in InDesign. I never figured it out, but eventually it corrected itself. (BTW, exporting to IDML did not correct the problem.) Last night everything was working great with InDesign and a 15 chapter book with several chapters open. However, this morning when I restarted InDesign, it was horribly sluggish with typing (2 seconds per character).
I started by looking for any preferences that could have gotten changed late last night. Then looked through the document for what could vary there too (such as no overset text). The only obvious change since last night was that I didn't have all of the other documents open while working on the current document.
Suspecting it was the cross references, I updated all cross references in the book. This did not correct the problem. I deliberately did not open any other document until after I tried everything else first. As soon as I did open the 2 other chapters that I was linking into, the slow text problem went away. I then closed those two chapters, and the slow text returned. I then opened each of the 2 linked chapter separately, and the slow text remained. It was only when BOTH of the linked chapters were open that the normal typing speed returned.
Right now it is not a big deal because only 2 other chapters are complete enough to link into. However, as this project progresses, there will likely be cross references to many chapters, and it will be more of a pain to have to open all of the documents in order to edit a single document.
Could there be a setting somewhere that is causing ID to constantly update cross references with each key stroke?

This is a known issue with cross-references and opening all the files is the solution. If you don't have them open, ID is opeing and closing them inthe background every time you hit a key.

  • Mail slow typing

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I have experienced slow typing when composing a message in Apple Mail.  Frequently, the letters appear on the screen 5 seconds after they are typed.  It is so slow that the Mail program is essentially unusable.  I posed this problem to Applecare and, after five attempts to correct the problem, I gave up.  It seems they don't know what is causing it.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Does anyone have a solution?

When the lag is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Keyboard input performance (slow typing) on Mac OS Mavericks

After installing Mac OS Mavericks, the typing performance in Dreamweaver CC 13.1 is very slow, almost to the point of unusability.
I am aware of this discussion, however that discussion started before Mavericks was released, and there has been no acknowledgement on Adobe's part of what may be a newer issue related only to Mavericks. To further support this, I did not have any issues with keyboard input performance while on Mountain Lion.
So I'm hoping with this thread I can get some confirmation that Adobe is seeing the issue in Mavericks, and is planning a fix in the next update - which hopefully will be coming very, very soon because as I said it's almost unusable now and I saw in the other thread people are even cancelling their subscriptions over this.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion

The "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion. Has anyone found a fix yet?

Well, when typing in MAIL, the letters manifest VERY SLOWLY. I am know ACE typist, and it can't keep up with me. I type even a few characters, and wait for several seconds for my textual desires to appear.
This was well discussed under Snow Leopard, I see.
Restarting the App often helps for several minutes, but no more.

  • Slow Typing In Mail: A Permanent Fix???

Ultra slow typing in Mail seems to be a Leopard "feature". Quitting and starting again, restores a semblance of good behaviour. Not as fast as, say, TextEdit, but acceptable. And then it starts slowing down once again... until one quits and restarts.
This seems to be a bona fide bug. Is there a "true" fix?

Thanks Pascal. I know that many users do not have this problem, which is kind of infuriating if you see what I mean... :-))) My only plug-in is SpamSieve which never caused me any problem until Leopard. I tried with or without SpamSieve, and the same problem reappears - slowing down after a few days, until I restart.
I must add that Mail never caused me any problems until 10.4.11 included. Never. This is something new... Next move: I am going to search and destroy any plist file associated with Mail. If it doesn't work, I will reinstall Mail from scratch.
Other users have reported the same problem here, and their posts went unanswered. Their only work-around was also to quit and restart. Strange.

I have an older MacBook Pro Mid 2012 with conventional hard drive running same OS and same Thunderbird version 31.4.0 and there is no slow typing whatsoever.
Isn't it strange Thunderbird would be so sluggish on my much faster mac? Am I alone having this problem? Thanks!

  • Slow Typing in CS6

This post is only for reference in case somebody else is having the same issue; unfortunately it doesn't give a real and easy solution but shows that not all hope is lost.
I have a 200+ pages document containing about 50 references to images and about 75 cross references. All of a sudden typing became really slow (~2 letters per second). Again! And no, the machine I'm working with isn't too slow. It is build for CAD  and rendering, has loads of CPU cores, professional graphics and more than enough RAM. I don't think, InDesign will hit any of it's limits, ever. And yes, I have all the available updates installed.
This hit me three or four times already and out of experience I tried the following, without much hope I have to admit:
    Save as IDML
Removed all cross-references and saved as IDML
Removed all references to images and all cross-references and saved as IDML
Of course, none of this helped as it didn't help before. Preflight was off - as always, display settings were set to the lowest possible setting - as always. I'm quite sure, I read every single post on the internet which refered to this problem. I banged my head against the wall because I couldn't find a solution for this - again.
The only thing that helps - and I knew it, when suddenly typing speed slowed down - was to start all over again with a complete new, fresh document. I really hate this, it's time consuming, absolutely unneccessary and expensive. And what is best, you can import all formats (text, table, TOC, cross-refs, ...), all master pages, everything layout-ish and Copy&Paste the text from the corrupted document. Afterwards typing speed is back to normal. This is ... I don't know what to say.
If you then save this fresh document containing all you "old" text and your "old" formats and stuff as IDML and compare it's size  with size of the IDML file created from the corrupted document, you'll see, tah the new doxument is  a remarkably smaller; more than 20% in my case. Twenty percent!!
Are you guys at Adobe serious? I can't start all over again every now and then just because the INDD file gets bloated with I-don't-know-what. In this shape, InDesign is simply useless for me. Sorry to say that, but that's the way it is. Can't you just make sure, that working on a file and saving it once in a while will not corrupt it? This isn't rocket science actually...

It happened again  just ten minutes ago. I'm restructuring  a document, that is moving sections around with cut & paste. Suddenly just after pasting a section back into the document typing became awfully slow. The pasted section's heading is used as a cross references target somewhere else in the document (it shows this little unobstrusive blue-ish colon at the beginning of the line). However, this was not the first section containing a cross reference target that I cut & pasted this morning, but I was quite quick with pasting.
Is it so, that ID re-evaluates all cross reference targets after a single target is cut? Additionally, is it possible, that if this exact target is pasted back while the re-evaluation process for the cut action is still running, the document gets corrupted sometimes?
Of course, I don't know anything of ID's inner life, but as a software developer I know such strange behaviour from personal experience .
    Any comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Thomas

  • Is there a fix for modal dialogs opening behind palettes -cs6 -osx 10.6.8

Is there a fix for modal dialogs open behind palettes in
Photoshop cs6 13.0 (createive cloud update) + OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro?
( I am using 2 monitors where the second monitor is set to be the menu display.  cs4 does not exhibit this bug. )
Toggling the Application Frame off improves the hiding 'feature' but this does not include the desired continuous floating in front of palettes in all circumstances.
An example is Blending Options, then chose Stroke, then chose the Color Picker.  After clicking OK, the Blending Options dialog now sits behind the palettes.  One trick is to click on another app, then back to cs6 to force a window redraw.
It sure would help me if this could be solved.  I am preparing educational videos and this display bug makes things very troublesome.
Thanks for any help.  If I find a solution, I will post to this thread so everyone can benefit.

The setting for the graphics check box Does Not make a difference.  If I have a new document window open, then add a layer, then open the blending options > drop shadow > edit the color > the chooser dialog opens, and immediately both dialog windows drop behind the palettes AND any document windows.
The same behavior for the Preferences dialog > guides > color.
The quick workaround is to click another app, then back to CS6.  A real pain, of course.
It is only a factor when opening a second (child) dialog box.
Other CS6 apps do work correctly (eg. FW AE)
I have yet to get a handle on this.  Mac OSX 10.6.8    CS6 13.0  x64
Thanks for your replies, and the long reply time for me was a vaction away from the office.

  • CS6 & OSX 10.6.8 - saving files directly to the server does not work (most of the time)

    Hi there,
we just switched from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.8
OSX was installed on a new partition of the harddisk
    Then installed CS 5
Then installed CS 6 via (adobe creative cloud)
With CS6 we got also the problem with saving files to the server (program error)
It happens mostly with photoshop, sometimes with Illustrator.
I read a lot of posting regarding the same problem but didn´t found a real solution yet.
I am also wondering that there seems to be no solution for this now, because most of the posting i read are 1 year old.

  • SQL Developer Slow typing - v2.1.0.63 on Windows 7 (32bit)

Ever since changing to a laptop with Windows 7 (32 bit), and to SQL Developer 2.1, ---- FROM Windows XP and SQL Dev 1.5.1 which worked very well --- I have had a drastic change in response time typing into the editor area.
My only symptoms were waiting for my typing to show up on the screen. It tried to fill in keywords slowly. I was used to it showing me table names and column names to use in the old version -- didn't happen in new version -- but at least I could run my scripts. Also I didn't like the new way of keeping the old Query Result tabs open ... I was surprised about that. Now I have to specifically close each one.
So then I tried to 'fix' the slowness by changing my settings a bit. I have no idea what half that stuff is refering to in the Tools > Preferences area. I must have really messed it up. :( Now I can't hardly see anything - parts are missing ... I have to Wait and wait and wait for it to respond to a mere click....
The page doesn't fill properly, I have to 'hover' over some parts to get them to show, I have to click on other parts to get the full script to show, ---- I did finally run 1 script. The drop down lists from the top stay there - i.e. can't get the focus to change -- the lists stay down (in a ghostly way - half there) even though I'm trying to get into another list. (Hope that makes sense... like Tools, Help, View).
The only things I do in SQL Developer are: SQL scripts. That's it. I open files and run them. I open various connections. I type in SQL commands and run them. I'm not asking for all these bells and whistles that seem to really slow it down. I want to find my DB objects occasionally using a wildcard.
This is awful! What happened to SQL Developer?? I used to love it!
Somebody please help me get it back!
    Thank you.

First of all, did you install in a new, clean directory? Else you'll have a corrupted installation.
Second, better start over with clean settings; deleting the [Windows user profile]\Application Data\SQL Developer\systemXXX dir will restore settings to default.
Third, you could skip the above and start over with the latest v3.0...
    Hope that helps,
    K.
