Slow upload speeds when using my wireless N router

Hello,
I just have a quick question maybe someone can help me out with.  I have my verizon issued G rated router hooked up normally.  I turned off the wifi, and using one of the lan ports ran a cable to my D-link wireless N router.  I wanted to use this router, because it gives me great coverage in my house and have worked great for me in the past.  Anyway, I plugged my pc which has a gigabit adapter directly into one of the four open lan ports on my wireless N router.  Download speeds were consitently between 41mb/s to 45 mb/s which is awesome.  However the upload speeds are horrible and tops out around 3.5mb/s.
Here is where I need someones help.  If unplug the PC's lan wire from my wireless N router and instead plug it directly into one of  the open ports on the  Verizon router, I get the same download speeds, but now i am getting between 30 and 35mb/s.  Does anyone know why plugging into the lan port on the other router kills the upload speed? It has to be something in the settings, because if I connect wirelessly to either the verizon or the Dlink routers, I get the same upload speeds for both usually around 25mb/s.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

You don;t say which D-Link router you have.  A number of D-Link routers have an option called "Game-Fuel".  This is a setting that enables specific QOS settings.  If you have Game-Fuel turned on, that can adversely impact your upload.  Game-Fuel uses QOS to ensure that no one user monopolizes the upstream bandwidth.

  • Slow internet speed when using AirPort

    Hi
I guess this may have been discussed before, but I could really do with some clear advice on the subject. I own a 2007 Mac Pro with an AirPort wi-fi card fitted by Apple as an option when I bought the machine. However, for some time now, I have experienced problems with my wi-fi connection when on the net.
Firstly, there's the signal. When I switch the computer on first and then access the internet, all four bars on the AirPort icon on my desktop are in black. However, after a while this starts to drop to three or two - sometimes even just one. The connection speed to the net decreases as the bars drop. When all four bars are filled in black, my connection speed is still not very good. My Mac Pro is not really far from my AirPort Extreme - in fact I have tried my old Windows XP based laptop in the same room and it appears to be fine provide better access speeds (even though it's an older machine)!
Secondly, my Mac Pro doesn't seem to like my 8 digit WPA-PSK security key on my modem (accessed through the AirPort Extreme base station). When I disconnect and try to re-connect to my network (as sometimes this helps my connection speed when it's low) the Mac asks me to punch in my key. I do this and it never seems to recognise it. Tried changing the password key through my modem's settings via an ethernet cable, yet still - when asked to type in the key when trying to access wirelessly - it is not recognised.
Can anyone offer any advice?? I have a Netgear modem/router with an AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station. I purchased my Mac Pro June 2007 from Apple.
    Thanks

I know cable connection is faster than bluetooth. But BT connection shouldn't be that slow.

  • Macbook pro: Extremely slow upload speed

    Hi,
I know this question has beed raised many times before me, seemingly from hundreds or thousands of users, but none of the threads I have found has lead to any solution.
My new Macbook Pro (15 inch), using Lion 10.7.3, is simply unable to obtain anything but an extremely slow upload speed, when using Wifi. I am using an Apple Airpor Extreme wifi device. My work PC, my older Macbook Pro (13 inch), all tablets and telephones etc hooks up to the same Wifi device and obtain all the speed they should, but my new Macbook Pro is sloooooooooooowwwww and sometimes cannot even initiated an uload speedtest at i.a. www.speedtest.net.
As mentioned, I am aware that there are plenty of threads on this, but I am not aware of any that provides a solution.
Is there a solution or is my new Macbook nothing but crAplle?
    Best regards,
    n

My subscription is 10 Mbps downloadand 2 Mbps download. upload
I get that (10/2 Mbps) on all other devices, other than my new Macbook Pro.
On my new Macbook pro I get 10 Mbps download, but only from 0 to 25 Kbps upload.

  • Extreme slow upload speed in Dallas area

    Hello
Something happened to my upload speed last Thursday, it has dropped considerably connecting to most servers making many sites very sluggish. I have the hardest time just attaching a file in Gmail and the gmail chat keeps saying 'unable to connect'. Using FTP for my work is almost impossible. It's takes me 5-10 tries to upload a file that's not even 50KB.
I've called Verizon tech support and went through different diagnostics and then they sent a new router, which still didn't help. Here's what I concluded so far:
    It's not the router
It's not the computer since it happens on every machine
It's not the wiring since I can get good speed test connecting to some servers.
It's not the servers that i'm connecting to; everything works when i'm at work or on the phone.
I have 15/5, I've attached some speed test results.
Verizon's own speed test page even timed our during upload, which was stuck under 0.5 when it was about to finish.
Anyone else experiencing this? Verizon say my issue is currently with the engineers, but I have no idea how long that wait to be.
    Thank you

Is there any Verizon representative that can escalate my issue?
Basically a tech came last Saturday and wasn't able to figure out what was wrong and left and closed my ticket. Whenever I call back now they're just telling me it's my computer, which is completely FALSE. All my 5-6 computer just doesn't happen to have slow upload speed of the sudden and require modification to RWin buffer as the suggested by the on-site tech. Verizon phone support bluntly told me they can't do anything further and would charge me for coming out again to replicate my issue.
Things the tech have already tried:
-Run Fios Optimizer multiple times on multiple computers.
    -Replaced router
    -Replaced ONT
    -Rebooted PON card
Upload speed still sporadic, works perfect on some speedtests, but it's less than 0.5MB on many servers including Verizon's very own local speedtest. Gmail and any google site request is constantly slow. This site is slow and often times out. FTP to my own site is almost impossible if I want to upload a file that's bigger than 100kb.
I'm extremely frustrated.... There are reports of same exact issues in other thread, one seems to be fixed. Is there any way Verizon can look at that and apply it here?

  • I have been experiencing excessively slow upload speeds.  like, what the malfunction.  does someone have an explanation for such?

when uploading a movie either to theater or to share, i have been experiencing excessively slow upload speeds, as well as varying upload time.
-excessively slow speeds, such as a 1-minute video requiring more than 1-hour 44-minutes to upload.
-varying upload speeds, as in the status circle will report an upload time of 1-hour, and moments later report an upload time of 4-hours.
also, when selecting "iMovie" as an application, it requires an excessive amount of time simply to load and appear on the monitor.

    Hi Julio,
We have removed the class-map for IPS and have done a clear local-host.
We have also changed the duplex (from Auto to full) and speed (from Auto to 100Mbps) on the outside interface.
it seemed the duplex we 've got was half when it was configured as Auto. We've asked our ISP to change in their side to full, but we've got half instead.
We did an upload test after those actions, the speed we got is 300KBps, it should be 8Mbps (download and upload).
when we send many upload at a same time, we can see from our monitoring tool that the bandwidth used is 8Mb.
We wonder we cannot get high speed when uploading a single file, the max speed is 300KBps.

the 2710 collisions is on the outside interface (i think it was before changing duplex)

when we plug a computer directly to the ISP device (IDU), the speed is high (about 650KBps).

  • Possible solution to slow upload speed

After my old home built rig died I built another. Speedtest.net consistantly showed at least 75/75 with old rig and new one was 85mb down and only 35mb-40mb upload. Having seen this in the past I explored. Old rig used onboard Atheros network interface card (aka 'NIC'), new rig has onboard Realtek NIC.
Problem: Slow upload speeds but only after computer has been unused for a period of time. We all do this.
Note: Every single Windows install by default has "'Power Management" turn off the NIC when not in use. To disable NIC power down go to driver properties "Power Management" tab and uncheck all boxes.
After ruling out the obvious - Your PC, Router and Verizon tests, and have flushed your browser cache and DNS, here is the most likely problem causing intermittent slow upload speeds:
TEST 1: Upon complete computer reboot (not sleep or hibernate) up and download
                  speeds are ok.
SYMPTOM: Computer first powers down (after whatever minutes power settings are set
at) and is then woken up.
    1) Newer Realtek NIC drivers have three settings of interest under the 'Advanced' tab.
1a) "Energy Efficient Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1b) "Green Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1c) "WOL & Shutdown Link Speed" Default is "10 mbps First" Set to "Not Speed
                  Down".
    2) Problem occurs when computer sits unused then NIC powers up again to the "10
        Mbps First".
    3) Though the NIC will eventually uprate to higher speed, it will start at lower rate thus
        causing the problem.
    4) My old Atheros NIC driver did not have the driver settings to save power and the
        Realtek one did.
    5) Other NIC manufacturers may or may not have driver based power settings. At the
very least go in the "Power Management" settings and uncheck boxes so NIC never
        powers down.
Common problem many do not think of in todays 'instant gratification' society. This happened way back in Win 3.11/95 days and continues to this day in all Windows OS's.
Hopefully others find this useful. And yes I shared this with Tech Support for their peer review process. Even if this works for some not all this is a common problem many tend to forget.
    ~Peace

Did it make any differnce to your speeds?
I have had this same issue on 2 systems for a year or so.  Both have the same realtek nic built in on the mobo - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.  Both systems have the same issue with speeds.  have a 75/75 connection they both show a consistent download of around 83 and upload varies between 5 and 15.  I've tried changing drivers and got the same results.  Made the changes you noted and no difference.  I figure it's a mobo problem.  I added intel nics and that made a little diffrence - got the upload speed up to about 30.  As I have other systems that work fine - consistently about 83/85 - I just finally ignored the issue and never bother doing uploads on the defective systems.
Would be nice to know the answer though.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Slow(er) startup when using captive runtime on windows

I  just converted two AIR apps from native exe installers (requiring AIR installed) to Captive Runtime relases (just a folder structure).
One difference i see is that my applications now load a little slower (because of the packaged instead of installed runtime?).
When using flex 4 sdk the white and centered flex4-loadbar now appears for a few seconds before the splash screen of the app. appears. The same happens when using flex 3 sdk (in compatibility mode) but instead the "initializing" text appears.
Is this slowdown a known effect of the captive runtime packaging?

I responded to your other thread in the bugs forum but wanted to also respond here.
I'm not aware of any slower performance implications when using the captive runtime but I'm going to investigate further.  In the meantime, would you mind opening a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com regarding the startup performance hit?  It would be great if you could also provide us with a sample application that illustrates the slower startup time.  If you'd like to keep it private, please email me directly at [email protected]

  • Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) u...

Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) unlimited after phone line fix (street cabinet) ?
Had my line fixed today by engineer (no dial tone).
Download rate near normal but upload = 0.73Mbps!?
I reset modem and router after he left and appreciate my profile is probably in need of some TLC after a weeks line fault, but is this normal in this situation? I heard it can take some time to reprofile my line and before it was fixed it was even worse at 0.10Mbps
Just seems very low considered the line is now operational again.

48Hrs+ on from residential line reconnection my business infinity 2 broadband upload speed is now approaching normal speed levels.
What a 10 days that was all because some ass disturbed the cabling in the street cabinet!
Yes I'm aware I have business broadband and am talking about it in a residential based forum, but my actual phone line is still residential that it is supplied over and the business broadband product is much the same animal as that supplied to residential customers i.e. Infinity 2 Unlimited. Only the mail and option of static i.p. appear different - that is all.
    Jeez.

Then Restore your iPhone Firmware with iTunes on computer. See if better. If not, talk to Verizon and see if they know of the problem and if there is a fix. If not, then make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • Rapidshare Manager Application slow upload speed

Can a mod please look into this, the application rapidshare provide to upload files to their server is being throttled. Not for the first time.
Before anyone says it's rapidshares servers, it's not, you can trust me 100% on that.
Usually it's 8Mb (less than half my max speed of 18.5Mb) yesterday it dropped to 2Mb and today it's the same..
By contrast my upload speed to filesonic is a solid 18.5Mb..

I am also suffering from slow upload speeds to Rapidshare.
Yesterday the maximum upload speed was 2Mb/s, I have spoken directly to Rapidshare who have assured me that this definitely not at their end and that the upload speed to them is being throttled by Bt.
I remember a few years ago that I was unable even to connect to Rapidshare via BTinternet. After many denials by BT that they were blocking Rapidshare, they finally came clean and admitted the blocking.
Therefore I don't believe anything that BT tell me with regard to their operational practices especially from their overseas service centres who only know how to read from scripts!
If only it were possible to speak to someone in the UK, that was honest and actually knew what they were talking about.

  • WRT310Nv2 very slow upload speeds

So I bought this new router, and am getting the same download speeds as my old one ... which is about 30 mbps thing is on my old lynksys router which was only wired .. I would get 1.6 mbps upload speeds.
Now on my new router I am hooked up through a wired connection and still get the same 30 mbps download speed .. but my upload is only at .34 to .41 mbps .. cant figure out whats causing this.  It has to be the router cause I tested the old one and the same thing again .. 1.6 on the up ... then put back in this one and back to .34 to .41 ...  anyone have any suggestions ?

From how I understand the situation, your old router provides you 30Mbps download and 1.6Mbps while WRT310Nv2 is giving you the same download but 034Mbps-0.41Mbps upload only. Definitely it's the configuration on the router that needs to be checked.
Try to play around with MTU settings on WRT310Nv2. You could try lowering it down at least less than 1495. As much as possible, try to mirror the settings you have on the old router.
