Slow upstream connection rate

I have an downstream connection rate of 3680kbps and an upstream connection rate of 64kps.
As I am (I assume) connected to an 8Mbps enabled exchange (indicated by the 7150kbps max achievable speed in the BT test result) so I thought that the upstream speed should be significantly higher e.g 256kbps or higher.
Any thoughts?
BT Test Result
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2338 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :3680 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 64 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3000 Kbps

If you have a lot of low frequency band interference, then the DSLAM would have decreased your upstream rate to reduce errors.
You have quite a number of losses of signal (local) which could indicate a possible missing microfilter on a phone somewhere.
Telephones without microfilters tend to attenuate the lower frequencies and cause signal losses. At the higher "downstream" frequencies they tend to have less of an effect.

  • Very Slow upstream on iChat AV 3.0.1 (v392)

I can initiate and receive iChat Video invitations. Once the connection is established, the incoming video is just fine (typically 300 kbps and 15 frames), but my upstream rate is VERY slow (64kbps at 1 frame per second.)
I have no idea why this is the case. Prior to upgrading to Tiger, I never had this problem. Also, over the weekend, I repaired permissions on my hard drive using Tech Tool Pro 4.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can remedy this slow upstream problem? I am using Comcast cable broadband service, and can measure an inbound (downstream) rate of 2.7 mbps.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Benjamin,
    Item 7 is the pointer.
The 1 fps second problem is caused by:
    1) An Add-on for Panther called iCAR This created the ability to leave an Away message on the AIM server (for when you were really not there) and is incompatible with Tiger/iChat. The bits for it are normally in Application Support in a folder called SMBL
    2) Apple Remote Desktop being selected and active in System Preferences > Sharing > Services tab
    3) A backgound application called folding@home which also uses the internet (night explain the connection speed drop) This helps a University to trace protien molecules.
    4) There are two reports of Lotus Notes being a problem
    5) a Database called PostGreSQL that uses spare processor time. Unfortunately it has a higher priority than iChat. But it can be altered to use different timings. Do a search at the Topic level to find post on this.
This list is not known to be complete and there may be more listed in the Trouble Shoootng post Defcom linked you to.

  • My 2007 mac pro has a slow internet connection with lion

    Hi:
I've been dealing with a severely slow internet connection with my 2007 mac pro - dual quad core.  I have os 10.7.3.  I use wifi.
Typically, I'll experience difficulty loading websites completely.  Certain sites have a 90% failure rate to load most elements.  Other sites operate quickly from time to time.  Often, a site will simply fail to load at all.  My cable company cannot find anything wrong with my connection and other, newer devices don't have a problem loading sites.  It seems the issue is most likely related to my computer.
Interestingly, I can usually "jump-start" the connection by turning my wifi connection off and on and this will (temporarily) allow me to get an image or video to download.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Why do I receive "4.3.2 connection rate limit exceeded" error message using the mail merge extension and what can be done about it?

I am using TB 31.3.0 with Mail Merge 3.9.1. I routinely send an email to 435 members of an volunteer emergency responders group that I coordinate. I do so using a .csv list with mail merge. While there were no problems in the past, more recently the mail merge function will hang after sending a varied number of messages successfully and I get the following error message:
"An error occurred sending mail. The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: 4.3.2 connection rate exceeded.."
There is an "OK" button in the error message pop up that can be clicked to resume the mail merge process. It would appear that if I click the "OK" button immediately whenever the error message is received I must do so frequently and some members do not receive their email. If I delay clicking the "OK" button, I found that I only needed to click the "OK" button twice to send to all the members.
An on line search suggests this is the result of some sort of throttling by my ISP, Sonic.net. There is also this comment: "If you are receiving this error, you are likely using mailing list software which cannot decipher the temporary fail codes. If so, you will need to set your software to slow down its delivery rate and/or reduce the number of active connections per remote host."
I am not super technical. Is it realistic to think that I can tweak mail merge to that I do not have to babysit my email to this group?

then I suggest you send using a mail provider that is not actively trying to block your outgoing mail. Or use a yahoo / google groups mailing list feature so you only send a single mail.
Or use a free account from the likes of http://www.ymlp.com/ who limit free account mailing lists to 1000 subscribers. ( Googled them this morning)

  • Slow wireless connections

We recently did a forklift upgrade on our campus and installed 3502i's, 3502e's, and 11 5508 WLC's. Our students are complaining about slow connections in several areas of the campus. In our testing and basic trouble shooting our Apple laptops have no problems but our windows laptops are showing a very slow connection rates 264kbps downloand and 366kbps upload. The window device has current drivers installed. Has anybody else encountered this?

    rschwart,
    Firehose of questions for you:
Per an earlier post, are you still seeing that Apple clients have few issues but that Windows clients have considerably more? Have you personally seen Apple and Windows clients downloading side by side yet with different results?
What are your WLC logs indicating? Have you tried any client debugs for known problem client MAC addresses?
Are the problems sporadic throughout the day or consistent all day long?
Is the problem only affecting wireless, or can you reproduce the slowness on wired clients? If you plug a PC into a wired port on the same switch where you have a problem AP, is the PC able to pull traffic from the network smoothly, without delay and without dropped packets?
Do any of your switchport uplink interfaces (anywhere on the backbone between the problem AP and the server farm / Internet) indicate dropped packets?
Look at your AP controller association times. If they're short associations, you may be seeing CAPWAP control traffic starvation, which is going to cause periodic AP deregistrations and the failed AP's clients reassociating to nearby APs.
Is the issue affecting Internet traffic only, or if students download content from on-campus servers, do they have problems with that, too? Is your Internet connection oversubscribed?
Is spanning tree stable on your network (no/few topology changes)? What spanning tree protocol are you running? (This question perhaps sounds unrelated, but L2 issues, esp with STP, will mangle upper layer transactions. I've seen this particular issue several times on larger campus networks).

Having done a bit of googling it looks as though our line profile should infact be 1500 Kbps given our connection rate of 1.75 Mb.  Is it possible to get my line retrained so we can make the full use of our lines potential.  That extra speed is crucial in been able to use Iplayer etc....
    Thanks in advance.
    Mark.

    Thanks for your reply Jolly.
When I first activated the broadband I had the filter plugged into the front (centre) socket on the master socket and the line was connecting at approx 1.5 Mb. About two weeks ago I plugged the filter directly into the test socket and I got the increased connection rate as detailed above. I left the router on and everything connected for about 10 days but had no improvement in line profile. Could it be that my connection rate is so marginal on activating the 1.5 Mb line profile that the equipment at the exchange isn't detecting the increased (well kind of!) speed?
The reason I was only connected for 17 min before posting that message was because I decided to restart the router to confirm that I was still connecting at that rate.
I tried speaking to someone in Dehli about this but got absolutely nowhere........

  • Slow RDP Connections

I have a Server 2008 with 8 desktops in an office. No LAN issues connecting to the server. No performance issues. Only some complaints with slow internet connections.
2 separate locations use terminal services to connect to the server. Both locations have slow refresh rates perhaps? Performance seems slow.

    Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does this issue happens for initial connection or for all RDP connections?
What happen if you make RDP connection within same location? Have you find the same slow RDP connections issue over there?
If you don’t find issue within same location then the cause is usually network related.
    - Also for a test try to disable all the redirections (Driver, Printers, video, Clipboard, etc.) and check the result.
    - Disable IPv6 in NIC setting. - Try to disable chimney, task offload and RSS by following command and then check the result.
NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL CHIMNEY=DISABLED
NETSH INT IP SET GLOBAL TASKOFFLOAD=DISABLED
NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL RSS=DISABLED
In addition to above try to edit the .RDP file and add the following line.
    enablecredsspsupport:i:0
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

When I do a line check from my neighbours computer the results read that this issue is known to BT. also if I check my neighbours line from my computer it reports this issue is also known to BT.
My neighbour and i have the same issues with our broadband connection at the minute. So this just confirms to me that the issue is beyond our homes.
I am almost at the end of my teather with this issue as my internet is unseable most days

  • Slowed download connection from HomeHub v1

    Hi all,
I've just recently upgraded from the "up to 8Mb" service to the "up to 20Mb" package.
All seems pretty good at the moment as I've only been connected 3 days. My upload speeds have improved nicely from ~0.25Mbps to around and sometimes over 1Mbps and my downloads have improved from around 6.5Mbps to over 10Mbps. But those figures are from my wireless PC upstairs in my office.
(My HomeHub is in the living room downstairs, as it has to have a wired connection to the Vision+ box. (Huh!....why can't that be wireless??)
When I try my laptop wirelessly, I get similar performance too, but when I connect my laptop to the HomeHub with a wired connection, I consistently get a 16Mbps download (+60% over the wireless connection). Does that sound right? I've moved the HomeHub so it is about 30cm from the wall: it isn't too close to radiators, the microvave or the fridge in the next room behind said wall.
So it seems that the best way to go is WIRED! Right? Luckily, I have a spur from my incoming telephone line that splits to go downstairs to the living room and one which goes upstairs to the bedroom's phone socket. the wire passes around my office's door to get to the bedroom, so could a junction box be installed here to enable a wired connection into my office?
Here are my Stats after 3 days of the "up to 20Mb" service:-
Test1 comprises of two tests 1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed 7254 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed 21000 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 7254 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information: Your DSL Connection Rate :18938 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1275 Kbps(UP-STREAM) IP Profile for your line is - 16000 Kbps The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.68:26.06:57.27 (SBE:NBEBE) These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic. The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information. Upload Speed 964 Kbps Max Achievable Speed 1275 Kbps >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 964 Kbps Additional Information: Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1275 Kbps

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.

    if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; </script>

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.

  • Slow VPN Connection

I have had Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup and running now for over 12 months and have been using the Remote Web Access to share certain files with our employees. When using the RWA you can download files in seconds without issue.
I recently wanted to setup a VPN connection to the server so that I could remote manage the server if needed rather than have to go to the office all the time. I added the role on the server, forwarded port 1723 as needed whilst at the office. Then at home
created a VPN connection on my Windows 7 PC. The VPN connects very quickly without issue but when trying to do anything the lag is very slow. On the laptop I used the cmd prompt so I could ping the server to see what was going on, i get a lot of time outs
when doing anything, even when trying to just open a folder that is also shared by RWA and opens without issue.
If i use Remote Desktop it just constantly times out and closes, so cant do anything.
It appears this is just a VPN issue as RWA works perfectly. Any ideas as to what would cause this?

    Hi,

  • Slower internet connection when connection wireless network

Currently using a Linksys WRT54GL wireless broadband (firmware v4.30.5) router in conjunction with a Thomson Speedtouch 546i ADSL router (ISP provided).
My problem is that when I connect to the internet over the wireless network I experience a much slower internet connection in comparison with when I use a tp-cable.
Tested with various online "speed-tests" (I know they are not to be trusted, but they do give a basis for comparison):
    Over wireless network : ca.6000kbits/sec.
Direct cable from pc to router (tested on both routers):12-13000kbits/sec.
Hope anyone has any idea what the problem may be, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Change the beacon to 50 ....and reduce the RTS and the fragmentation by 40 each.....these options are found under the advanced wireless settings...
Also make sure that u have the latest drivers installed for the Wireless NIC.

  • WiFi *really* slow to connect on wake

I recently moved to a new neighborhood and now my wifi is really slow to connect when I open up my MacBook from sleep mode.
My old place had other networks in the vicinity, but about half as many as there are available at my new place.
Either way, its really becoming a pain, as I have become very used to opening my MacBook and being instantly online.
I have power cycled my router and modem and done everything short of resetting the firmware.
I am using a standard Linksys WRT-54G and it's served me fine for years, as has this MacBook.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

How long is this "really slow"? Several minutes?
You may want to look through System Preferences>Network and take a look at the "advanced" options for Airport. Might be worth clearing out all preferred networks and get those reset.
