Slow when building slideshow, pauses
When I'm working with Keynote in iWork 2008, many of the times I switch to another slide to work on it, I get the spinning beach-ball and a few second pause. This is annoying as I can't just jump around to look at different slides. This delay can be a few seconds to 10-15 seconds. A lot of the time this is related to slides with movies but not always. I did not get this with Keynote 2.
Additionally, it seems that my CPU spikes during this time. I run top on the terminal and even it freezes. Once the machine unfreezes, top sometimes reports something like 700% CPU usage. It does not appear to be swapping much to or from disk during this time. It does not seem to be memory constrained either as I thought that would be a problem. Additionally, the movies are not always resized which I thought might be a delay (having to resize the movies or images on the fly).
Any advice?
So far, I have unsuccessfully tried:
* rebooting machine
* deleting Keynote settings in ~/Library
* running as a different user
Of note:
* I have had Keynote 1 and 2 on this machine but 1 has been deleted and 2 still is on it in iWork.
Are there other settings I can delete from older Keynote versions that are not in the ~/Library directory? Should I delete the older iWork? I hate to delete the older iWork in case I have to go back to it (and finding the DVD again might take time as I moved recently).
I've also been disappointed by the performance of Keynote, even though I am running Keynote 4.0.3 on OS X 10.5.2. What is really frustrating is that the spinning beach ball does not only affect Keynote—it causes the whole machine to go unresponsive for a number of seconds. In most other applications, when a spinning beach ball comes up, one can switch to another application and do something else while the beach ball resolves itself, but not in this case.
This has happened especially in presentations with slides containing QuickTime movies.
Suggestions appreciated.

ColdFusion Builder - Slow when editing code
I have seen this many times on other forums, but haven't found any working solutions - my installation of the standalone Coldfusion Builder 1.0.0.25339 is nearly always very very slow when editing code (wehether this is cfm or css) i'm assuming the code hinting it somewhat to blame, but don't want to turn it off.
Any help/solutions welcomed.The current state of the product is that it's rife with performance problems.
Hopefully they'll be fixed in the next release.
What you're seeing is just how it currently works (ie: slowly).

Encore CS5 very slow when selecting the File tab
Good morning.
This is the first I have ever experienced this. Encore CS5 is extremely slow when I try to select the file Tab. All other tabs like Edit are fine. It is also takes forever to Save anytime. I usually just use Encore for short no menu DVD's I'm building a DVD with a few sideshows and an hour of video. I haven't started the menu yet. I updated the latest from Adobe yesterday and I am current with the Window 7 64 bit updates. All other applications in the Master Suite work fine. I think my system should be enough to run Encore without any problems. Any suggestions? I'm all ears!...

Computer is slow when plugged in
Hello,
I have this strange issue with my computer. When I connect my Power Adapter to computer, the computer will be very slow. If I remove the Power Adapter, everything runs normal. This was not the case earlier, and it just worked fine. I started facing this
issue recently.
System Model HP ProBook 4530s
System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
System Type X86-based PC (This is a 64-bit computer and I have installed 32-bit OS)
OS Name Microsoft Windows 8 Pro
Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
BIOS Mode Legacy
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Please let me know if Anyone has any clues on this.If you remove the battery and just run on AC, does it work normally? I found
this thread on the HP forums where the battery was causing slowness when plugged in, and one person found that the AC adapter was causing the issue.
Hope this helps,
David

Crashes iPhoto 8.1.2 when starting SlideShow
Background
During last two days I have tried to find a solution. In vain so far.
When highlighting an event and then pressing the button Slideshow the screen goes black for a while and the Crash reports appears.
*Previous Actions*
iPhoto Library Manager was used to rebuild the photo library of some 10000 pictures.
Also deleted various files in the Libraries: incl .pkg and .bom files. Also .plist and files in Applications Support folders.
*Latest Actions*
1) Reinstalled from DVD Snow Leopard + latest updates to 10.6.5
2) Reinstalled iLife 09 from DVD + latest updates
*Crash report*
See below.
I do really need some help after these two days of efforts. But I am lost now. Thanks.
Best regards,
Leif

From the tutorial: If eip is equal to the exception address, the exception was caused by fetching instructions. Typically this means: you've called a bogus function pointer (or, equivalently, called a method on a bogus object) or you've returned to a bad address which, in turn, means that you've corrupted the stack.
This is also in line with the first lines of the report: reason: *'launch path not accessible'*
So my question is: is there a way to find out the possible root of this crash from above from somebody that has more knowledge?
Best regards,

PSE 12 Trial crashes - when running slideshow or outputing
Downloaded trial version of PSE 12 - runs slow and randomly crashes when playing slideshow in editor. Also crashes when outputing to any format at random points in the slideshow.
Just about to give up and switch over to iMovie as this has become increasingly frustrating.
Any suggestions as I have used version 7 in the past had a few issues, but nothing like what I am experiencing at this point in time?Under the tab TAGS / KEYWORDS, I have a keyword called IMPORTED KEYWORD TAGS. That's where I found my problems.
I think the bottom line is that the conversion / importing of previous catalogs is not working. In my case, it seems to be something to do with the tags. Who knows how many other issues there may be.
To me, there are enough postings on numerous site to indicate there is a significant problem. I've used PSE since version four. Most upgrades worked, Two did not. (I still load the PSE version 8 software to preserve the albums my wife created. An upgrade scrambled the files and my wife too it personally. Not worth the risk of messing up again.)
I am looking at MS Live Photo Gallery as an alternative. -
Widget API make a widget change when captivate is paused/resumed
Hi, having an issue with Captivate 5. I'm trying to have an AS3 widget with a listener for when Captivate is paused or resumed. I found some documentation for the widget API, but I can't figure out how, or find an example of how to implement a lister like this in Flash.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.Not sure if the Widget API you're referring to is WidgetFactory or the older Adobe API, but you should be able to find plenty of information about what to do here:

Tristan's blog has heaps of information about building widgets for Captivate. -
Extemely slow 7610 printing with pauses
We recently purchased a HP 7610 printer to take advantage of the wireless and wide-format capabilities. Both of our PC's are running Windows 8.1. We purchased and installed the two-sided add-on for duplex printing. We do not need/want the ePrint capabilities/web services. Web Direct is off. Our local network traffic is very light - no games or movies.
The 7610 is connected via our wireless router, and is extremely slow when printing. It takes at least one minute to begin actually printing although the display inidicates it is printing so it is doing something. Once it begins to print, it prints all pages but pauses for 15-30 seconds after printing about 2/3 of the last page. It finally flushes the buffer or whatever it is doing before it finishes printing and ejects the last page. This happens when printing from any local application or from the web. Our old reliable 7310 (hardwired to the router) prints smoothly and quickly.
We installed the driver from the CD shipped with the printer, and have also de-installed and then re-installed using the driver downloaded from the HP website so we believe the driver is current.
How can we eliminate the delay when it begins to print and eliminate the pause when it's almost finished? Do we need to forget about the wireless connection and run a cable to the 7610?Hi HPuser59,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting slow printing with your HP Officejet 7610 printer on Windows 8.1, and I am happy to help you with this slow printing issue!
Please take a look through this guide. Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue.

System is VERY slow when changing apps or loading web sites
I am new to the forums so my questions may seem amatuerish.
My iMac is very slow when I click on links in Safari (esp facebook), and also when I switch from one app to another. I usually have 3-4 apps open when I am working. I only have 512 MG of memory, Can that be the major reason for things being so slow? or is there something else i should be doing?
Also, I cannot get my iMac to reboot using the install disc (Tiger 10.4.11) I have. Suggestions? I am really tired of watching the SBBBOD.Thanks to all 3 of you for the responses. In answer to some of your questions:
Of the 240 GB of HD, I still have 203.88 free. The build # is 8S2167.
We did install new memory cards this morning - removed the 512MB card and put in 2-1GB cards, which max's out this unit. Having just done that, I can't say yet whether it made a difference or not.
Here is the info from my Hardware screen:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1

I had already downloaded and run the Applejack app before I contacted you. It did not seem to fix anything.
I had another Safari crash last night. I'd like you to look over the report to see if there is anything there I should remove or fix? The report:

One more dumb question: when I repair permissions, should I be selecting the top disc on the display, or the "Mac HD" disc that shows right below it indented? or are they the same disc? -
Building slideshows for emailing and the web. ie. compressing, max file si
I need to build a slide show for work with music and wish to email it as well as post it on my website. First, do you recommend using the full size files when building the slide show or resizing them first to help with the compression later. Second, after building the slide show should I export it to imovie and then to quicktime where I can compress it or do you recommend any third party applications? Most important is to use as many images as possible, add music, keep the quality as high as possible and then be able to send it over the web.
Any suggestions would be great,
Thanks!!!numbers1
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
1. No matter what app or format you use if you want to
keep the quality as high as possible
you're going to have a large movie file - very likely too large to email.
2. iPhoto has a limited enough ability to make slideshows that are cut to music. You can make the entire thing in iMovie or in an app such as PhotoToMovie or Final Cut Express. All of these have greater export options than iPhoto. Here's an example of such a thing made in Final Cut Express: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpIdFcoYsss. The file was exported at HD quality and compressed by YouTube. If Final Cut is beyond your budget then my next choice would be PhotoToMovie.
3. Don't compress the files in any way until exporting as a movie, you're only adding to the damage.

PL/SQL procedure is 10x slower when running from weblogic
Hi everyone,
we've developed a PL/SQL procedure performing reporting - the original solution was written in Java but due to performance problems we've decided to switch this particular piece to PL/SQL. Everything works fine as long as we execute the procedure from SQL Developer - the batch processing 20000 items finishes in about 80 seconds, which is a serious improvement compared to the previous solution.
But once we call the very same procedure (on exactly the same data) from weblogic, the performance seriously drops - instead of 80 seconds it suddenly runs for about 23 minutes, which is 10x slower. And we don't know why this happens :-(
We've profiled the procedure (in both environments) using DBMS_PROFILER, and we've found that if the procedure is executed from Weblogic, one of the SQL statements runs noticeably slower and consumes about 800 seconds (90% of the total run time) instead of 0.9 second (2% of the total run time), but we're not sure why - in both cases this query is executed 32742-times, giving 24ms vs. 0.03ms in average.
The SQL is
SELECT personId INTO v_personId FROM (
SELECT personId FROM PersonRelations
WHERE extPersonId LIKE v_person_prefix || '%'
) WHERE rownum = 1;Basically it returns an ID of the person according to some external ID (or the prefix of the ID). I do understand why this query might be a performance problem (LIKE operator etc.), but I don't understand why this runs quite fast when executed from SQL Developer and 10x slower when executed from Weblogic (exactly the same data, etc.).
Ve're using Oracle 10gR2 with Weblogic 10, running on a separate machine - there are no other intensive tasks, so there's nothing that could interfere with the oracle process. According to the 'top' command, the wait time is below 0.5%, so there should be no serious I/O problems. We've even checked JDBC connection pool settings in Weblogic, but I doubt this issue is related to JDBC (and everything looks fine anyway). The statistics are fresh and the results are quite consistent.
Edited by: user6510516 on 17.7.2009 13:46The setup is quite simple - the database is running on a dedicated database server (development only). Generally there are no 'intensive' tasks running on this machine, especially not when the procedure I'm talking about was executed. The application server (weblogic 10) is running on different machine so it does not interfere with the database (in this case it was my own workstation).
No, the procedure is not called 20000x - we have a table with batch of records we need to process, with a given flag (say processed=0). The procedure reads them using a cursor and processes the records one-by-one. By 'processing' I mean computing some sums, updating other table, etc. and finally switching the record to processed=1. I.e. the procedure looks like this:
CREATE PROCEDURE process_records IS
v_record records_to_process%ROWTYPE;
BEGIN
OPEN records_to_process;
LOOP
FETCH records_to_process INTO v_record;
EXIT WHEN records_to_process%NOTFOUND;
-- process the record (update table A, insert a record into B, delete from C, query table D ....)
-- and finally mark the row as 'processed=1'
END LOOP;
CLOSE records_to_process;
END process_records;The procedure is actually part of a package and the cursor 'records_to_process' is defined in the body. One of the queries executed in the procedure is the SELECT mentioned above (the one that jumps from 2% to 90%).
So the only thing we actually do in Weblogic is
CallableStatement cstmt = connection.prepareCall("{call ProcessPkg.process_records}");
cstmt.execute();and that's it - there is only one call to the JDBC, so the network overhead shouldn't be a problem.
There are 20000 rows we use for testing - we just update them to 'processed=0' (and clear some of the other tables). So actually each run uses exactly the same data, same code paths and produces the very same results. Yet when executed from SQL developer it takes 80 seconds and when executed from Weblogic it takes 800 seconds :-(
The only difference I've just noticed is that when using SQL Developer, we're using PL/SQL notation, i.e. "BEGIN ProcessPkg.process_records; END;" instead of "{call }" but I guess that's irrelevant. And yet another difference - weblogic uses JDBC from 10gR2, while the SQL Developer is bundled with JDBC from 11g. -
I installed Yosemite and now my computer is slow when logging in. Also when I type my password, a bar appears measuring the process and then all of a sudden the screen images are distorted. After that my home screen appears and everything seems normal. What can I do to fix this?
Here is what the etrecheck results are:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Alternatively, see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
even though all photos look like they are the right way up, when the slideshow commences, some of them display sideways. I have tried re-rotating them - and still have same problem. Help please - need it for Saturday night !
What version of iPhoto are you using? Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album or are you using the slideshow mode?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...

I am doing an an aquisition and displaying the data on graphs. When I run the program it is slow. I think because I have the number of scans to read associated with my scan rate. It takes the number of seconds I want to display on the chart times the scan rate and feeds that into the number of samples to read at a time from the AI read. The problem is that it stalls until the data points are aquired and displayed so I cannot click or change values on the front panel until the updates occur on the graph. What can I do to be able to help this?
