Slow WiFi Connection With New Router TP-Link W8960N

Hi Apple Support,
A few weeks ago I've purchased a TP-Link TD-W8960N wireless modem router so that I can share my WiFi internet with the following devices:
~ iMac running Snow Leopard OSX Version 10.6.7
~ iPhone
~ iPad
~ Mini-PC / Home Theatre PC (Running Windows 7)
At first my iMac wouldn't connect to the WiFi, but after changing it to Channel 11. My iMac successfully joined the WiFi Network.
But the past week my iPhone & iPad whenever I browse the internet it would respond very quickly.
But my iMac and Windows PC, some websites they would respond quick and several other websites it would not respond at all and takes such a long time to bring up the website.
I'm on a ADSL2 broadband connection.
Mac OSX version 10.6.7...
I tried also updating the router firmware...
My Current WiFi settings are:
Channel: 11
Mode: 11bgn (and I've also tried 11b, 11bg, and 11n only)
Bandwidth: 20Mhz (the other option is 40Mhz)
Fragmentation Threshold: 2346
RTS Threshold: 2347
DTIM Interval: 1
Beacon Interval: 100
Transmit Power: 100%
Wi-Fi Multimedia: Disabled
Any ideas would be greatly apprecatied...

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

  • How can i fix my wifi connection with my router

how can i fix my wifi connection with my router?

I think I'm having a similar problem, my wifi disconnects when a bluetooth device is connected to the MBA.
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) with WiFi and Apple Trackpad.  I'm unable to use the trackpad(bluetooth) and wifi at the same time.  If I turn off the trackpad then the wifi works fine and if I shutoff the wifi then the trackpad works fine.  This configuration was working fine prior to upgrading to Yosemite.
I experienced the same problem at home and at the office.
    Additional test:
I turned off the bluetooth trackpad and connected my bluetooth headphones to the MBA.  The wifi disconnected as soon as I paired the headphones with the MBA.
I have had no problems with the MBA's keyboard or integrated trackpad.

  • Slow wifi speed with new linksys ac1200+

I just bought a new linksys ac1200+ today and set it up. I can get 60 down when connected with ethernet but only 20 down with wifi. my old router could give me 25 down. does any one now how to solve this? there is no other signals blocking it.

Is the FW up to date?
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.
Disable the auto update feature on the router.
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.

Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • Slow wifi connection with windows 8

Hi! I have a problem with wifi drivers for windows 8 on my MacBook Air. The OS works great but wifi is too slow. I've read that could be a bug with latest driver versions, can you tell me where I can find older versions? Or there's another solution that I don't know?
I tried to search for answers on this community but I can't find anything.
    Thanks,
    Luca

I just found solution for my problem It seems that there is compatibility problem between Cisco 120N wireless router and new iPad 3'rd generation. The problem is occurs in WiFi "N" mode only. Once I switched the Cisco 120N wireless router to the "BG-mixed" mode than the WiFi transfer on my iPad is as good as on other devices. And when I switched my Cisco 120N to "Wireless-N Only" than the problems with WiFi transfer were unbearable, which clearly points out the incompatibilities to the N-mode only.
I begin to wonder though whether are there any wireless routers that would properly work with new iPad in "N" mode? Could you please let me know with which Cisco/Linksys/Netgear/D-Link/TP-link wireless routers iPad 3 works well in N mode?

  • AirPort Time Capsule (firmware v7.7.3) has slow wifi connection to new Surface Pro 3

I got a new Surface Pro 3 i7. I have all the updates for it. I ran into a problem that many others also ran into which was very slow WiFi performance. I utilized many troubleshooting methods and sources and I am currently inclined to believe this... the new Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller drivers are not compatible with my Airport Time Capsule firmware version 7.7.3.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another firmware version that works (older or newer)?
    Details:
I tried all kinds of things, like changing the network drivers on the SP3 to many different versions. Many of the help forums recommended using the drivers dated 4/24/2014. This did seem to help, but not reliably. What I discovered is... if I connect using the SP3 WiFi to my network extension Airport Express on version 7.6.4, I reliably get 20-22 mbps (which is the best I can expect from my network and works great for my needs). But, when I connect to my primary network Airport Time Capsule, the best I can get is 1.5 mbps, but usually between .15 and .9 mbps. It's completely unusable in today's internet environment. At the same time, I used my iPhone and the Airport Utility to verify the connections.  I used SpeedTest.net on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone and Win8.1 HP laptop to verify that every other device was getting the 20+mbps. And they did.  Only the Surface Pro 3 couldn't perform when using WiFi through the Airport Time Capsule. The SP3 does achieve 20+ mbps like all my other devices, but only when connected to the Airport Express.
The articles I read said that the network drivers on the SP3 seem to require the routers to be updated to the latest versions. Both the Airport Time Capsule and the Airport Express seem to be updated. When I go into their settings using the Airport Utility, there are no updates available.
Of course this problem isn't replicated at the Microsoft store since they don't have apple routers.  So, their response is to upgrade the routers.  Extremely unhelpful when the Apple software is saying it is upgraded already. I can't believe this new Airport Time Capsule has to be retired because it isn't playing well with others, and I love the automatic backup it is providing for my MacBook. So, somehow, I need the Airport Time Capsule to work with the new WiFi card & drivers on my SP3, just like the SP3 is working properly with the Airport Express.

    Thanks for your input!
    1. No downgrade. Bummer, but understandable.
    2. Completely agree!!! I did too and then I had to redo it because I couldn't install a driver. I had to start all over and reinstall Win 8 then Win 8.1 over it. It was a colossal waste of time and endless frustration. If I can just get it modestly working, I'll take it. It doesn't have to be perfect right now.
    3.  Great suggestion! And the Microsoft forums are also a buzz. One suggestion I tried (and it seems to be working) is to set a separate wireless network name for the 5ghz band. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but I'm hopeful.  I t seems to have worked for some, but not others. The next thing I'll try is fixing the channel, but strangely, I didn't see that option in the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone. Is it only available through Mac/PC laptop/desktop software?
    4. Yup. Sigh. I actually have an old linksys. I retired it when I went 100% apple. I was hoping that things would work smoother. And they did! Until this SP3 came into my life. Arg.
And and a few more details...
the AirPort Time Capsule is 802.11ac
the AirPort Express is 802.11n (2nd gen)
I'm wondering if it is the AC connection that is the issue. Maybe since the Express always connects with n, it is OK....
Nope. Just tested the SP3 again and it is maintaining it's connection to the AirPort Time Capsule utiling the 802.11a/n/ac mode and connecting to the 5Ghz special network name. So far so good... Fingers crossed...

  • Wifi connection with new iPad mini

New iPad mini; cannot connect to mobile wifi router.  Connected successfully with iPhone...Restored iPad as suggested;  reset network settings.. running 6.0.2 on iPad.  Still get Unable to Join Network.

You have a "good WiFi connection". What does that mean exactly? Can you send and receive email and are other internet related activities working OK for you? Have you tried restarting or rebooting your iPad? Sometimes that helps. If nothing else, it's a good place to start.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • !TRIED EVERYTHING! PLEASE HELP! Lenovo thinkpad twist super slow WIFI connect to home router

I love my twist i just wish my wifi would work at home!
It connects and works fine at public places
At home it takes forever to connect maybe have to try 5 times taking 5-7minutes and it will disconnect sometimes if computer goes black
I have : lenovo thinkpad twist s230u with windows 8
    I have a : Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
    I have a : Broadcom driver 6.30.59.26
Troubleshooting that i have already tried: adjusting wifi power settings, downloading lenovo driver
    PLEASE HELP

I would try plugging the laptop directly into your cable modem, thus by-passing the router, and check your connection speed.  Next, connect the router to the cable modem and plug the laptop directly into the router by cable. Compare your connection speeds.  If both work fine by cable, then I think your wifi on the home router isn't broadcasting/working.  You say the wifi connects at work/public, which leads me to believe it is not your laptop wifi card.  What is your wifi signal strength from your home network? work? public?

  • Wifi connection with netgear router DG824M - one solution

I have had some problems with connecting iphone via wifi with my home router
    Netgear DG824M
I'm still having a problem with the encryption issue but have at least found one solution to another security issue and thought it might help others so i am posting:-
If you have mac address filtering turned on (netgear describes this as only "trusted PC's" can connect) , you may find that you get an IP Address clash when you try to connect your iphone (or some other apple equipment)
I found that this resolved if i selected an "reserved IP address" for the iphone - in my casei chose 192.168.0.10 (since the router allows up to .51)
(the phone otherwise took 192.168.0.3 which clashed with another device)
This was not an issue when "trusted pc's" feature was turned off on the router

Ok guys. This is the simple way i used to connect my iPhone to my Netgear router.
    1. In your iPhone, go to Settings>General>About. Then, scroll down to "Wi-Fi Address". This is your MAC address. This you will need in order to authorize your phone in your Netgear page (which usually looks something like XXX.XXX.X.X (where "X" are numbers)).
    2. Log in to you Netgear page.
    3. On the blue left panel of the screen, click on "Wireless Settings". A new page comes up.
    4. Click on "Setup Access List".
    5. Click on "Add" to enter the require info needed for your phone to gain access to your network.
    6. On "Device Name" I entered "iPhone". This name is irrelevant for i named my iPhone differently and using just "iPhone" worked. So enter whatever name you wish, but keep it simple.
    7. Now, on "Mac Address" (the single most important info here) enter the number you obtained in Step 1. Make sure you enter it with the colons (:).
    8. Add and apply, and wait for the blue bar at the top of the screen to do its thing. It will take only a few seconds to update the network.
    That's all! Connect and enjoy!
I hope this was helpful. Let me know if it worked at [email protected]

  • Facetime no longer connects with new router

I used to be able to facetime with my old Linksys g router. I upgrade the router to an ASUS N router and although the iPod connects just fine to the wi-fi network, facetime just rings and doesn't connect.  Others are unable to ring me as well.  I found the apple tech spec that provides guidance on how to set the router settings (ie, set 2.4 at 20 instead of 40 mps); however, it did not help.  Any ideas?

  • Slow PAN connection with new MacBook Pro

I have an older MackBook Pro, one of the first, running 10.5.5 and and brand new MacBook Pro bought today.
When I use Bluetooth to hook via PAN to the older MBP I get 65-85k downloads, when I use the new MBP I get a stuttering 3-6k. I've used the same setup pair procedure with both MBPs and even gone as far as retraining the older MBP and eliminating it for the phone/shutting off the older machine with no luck.
    Any ideas ?

I have pair and deleted the AT&T Tilt several times on both my old MBP and my new MBP. The Old MBP still performs a full speed when using PAN to connect to the internet. My new MBP is a DOG through PAN, 3-4k max download with long periods of no activity.
I've looked at both computers Preference files and they are basically the same. There is a difference between the Bluetooth software on the two machines even though they both run 10.5.5, I guess different bluetooth chips?
The older MBP uses a Cambridge chipset
The new MBP reports a Broadcom chipset.
I'm getting a bad feeling from this switch...

  • Experiencing Slow Internet Connections with new Macbook Pro

I have had the laptop since December and I have had several problems regarding the internet. Just a little background, I have always had pretty fast internet and have never experienced any of these problems with any other computers. My family owns 2 other PC's(ew) and they don't have any problems with internet speed.
    Examples:
-90% of the time my arrow will not change to the hand when something is clickable
-downloading songs takes forever, even when they are only 10 megabytes
-pages wont load even simple ones such as search engines
The overall feel of my connection is slow and the sites i use are the basic ones which dont require too many flashy things.
When I reset my modem the internet works better for a little bit but then goes back to its old ways.
If you guys could give me any tips on the preferences i should have please help

How are you connected to the internet?
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

  • Sudden slow wifi connection with Airport Express 802.11n

Recently, all of a sudden I noticed the speed of my internet droped dramaticlly from ~27Mbps to ~4Mbps (Speedtest.com) Comcast's blast. When I connect my laptop directly to the modem there is no problem with the speed. I tried restarting the modem, changing the channel/radio mode on the airport express, hard reset the airport epress, change the location of the airport express but nothing has changed. I notice that the speed fluctuate on speedtest.com meaning it ranges from 1-3 to 5-7Mbps. I test the speed on three other laptops but still got the same result. The only change I can think of that could effect this is the addetion of two computers to the network but I would still get the same speed when they are powered off.
    Thanks

you use +airport utility+ (AU) (in your applications > utilities folder). launch AU, double-click on the icon of your extreme to enter manual setup, and go to the wireless tab. see this screen shot
however, before you do, i recommend you download iStumbler (does not work with Snow Leopard) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. change the channel of your network as far away as possible from those.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
