Slow wifi download speeds on 3gs??

Is anyone else experiencing slow wifi download speeds?? I upgraded from a first gen iPhone to the 3gs & the first thing I noticed was downloading stuff from iTunes, app store, or YouTube, Takes forever!! Example... If I put both of my phones side by side, both connected to wifi, start downloading a 36 mb podcast at the same time, my first gen iPhone will finish the file in about 2 mins and my new 3gs will take anywhere from 8 to 10 mins. Is there a problem with the 3.0 firmware or is the problem just my phone?? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I'v been dealing all day on this issue, I upgraded to the 3GS model and my wife still has the 3g, I don't have the fastest network at my house (1.5 meg) but her phone is coming in about 1021kbps and mine is 241, which seem like a big difference, especially when trying to view youtube, apple store just gave me a new phone, and it still has the same problem. I reset it, restored it, replaced it, and after replacing it I did not restore from backup but still have the same issue. I do access internet via a time capsule for whatever thats worth, and I also checked with tech support about that being the problem and we found that to not be the problem. *****, I paid $300 and committed to AT&T for another 2 years, for internet at a quarter of the speed...

i have lenovo a7000 which gives slow downloading speed in wifi with good wifi signal. please tell me anyone how to fix this issue.

    hi nestharus,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If you have the Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adapter, can you try this driver:
Drivers for Atheros AR9485 and Windows 8
    Version: 10.0.0.234
    OS: Windows 8 32/64bit
    File: win8-10.0.0.234-whql.zip
Alternativey, does the issue happens also if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? (if you get a stable good download then it's possible that a security software is interferring with the wireless connection).
    Edit:
Using the Dink Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter will definitely improve the performance (you may need to set it to 2.4Ghz if you only have a single band router)

  • Airport Express - Slow WiFi Download Speeds

I have a main wireless AP/router that is a Cisco 871 . There are several windows based laptops in the house, a G5, and Mac Pro (wired). The G5 is currently connected through an Airport Express which is connected via WPA. However download transfers are terrible. I have attained consistently over 15mbits down on all other hardware and approaching 3mb u/l. (Standard speedtest.net site). On my G5 (fully patched OS X), it caps out at about 1mb download. I see similar transfer speed when I mount the G5 via samba, ruling out my bandwidth completely. However, upload speeds seem acceptable, also approaching 3mb (speedtest.net/mozy.com etc).
To verify wireless connectivity, I used a laptop next to the G5 and was able to get acceptable test results. There appears to be an issue with the firmware in the Airport Express. Maybe running in a mixed env? The Cisco does not support "n" wireless speeds.

I performed some further testing. I have connected a windows based laptop to the Express (via ethernet) and again am seeing the slow downloads, uploads remain fine. Therefore it is isolated to the express and not a problem with the G5.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • IPod and iPad Wifi download speed greatly diminished

My iPad4 and IPod Touch 5 download speed is 500KB/s and upload speed is 8Mb/s, whereas my laptop's download speed is 20MB/s.  Any suggestions on how to increase my iOs devices WiFi download speed? I have tried changing DNS to the several suggested on the forum to to avail. I am using Speedtest on all three devices. I am on Comcast using their Arris TG862 Gateway.

    Jason,
Thanks for the advise, however, no joy.
I followed your instructions to the letter as if I was setting it up for the first time.
My windows laptop, ipad and iPod all get great download and upload speeds when within 6-8 feet of router/modem.
Upon moving all three outside of that range, like 10 feet down the hall, my laptop continues to perform but apple devices slow down to as low as 500kbs down but still have 7Mbs uploading. Prior the start of this situation 3 weeks ago,
I could use my ipad to stream Netflix in the garage on the other side of the house with 3 walls and a metal fire door in between.
I may be paranoid, but it seems like since the law regarding "throttling" passed, my Apple products are affected. When I use SpeedTest on my ipad, the download speed starts out at 10Mb/s then slows down to a crawl. It is like it is saying "Oh, and iOs device, let's slow it down."
This as detailed as I can get.  Any further ideas?
I do have a Netgear high speed router that was replaced with the combination device provided by Comcast.
I have read about calling Comcast and requesting to be put into bridge mode. What do you think?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Using Speedtest, all my iOS 7.1 devices are showing slow internet download speeds on my home WiFi network.

I have four iOS devices, an iPad Air, an iPhone 5S, an iPhone 4, and an iPad2.  All but the iPad2 are running iOS 7.1.  The iPad2 is still iOS 7.0.4.  I am only getting 1mbs download speeds with the iOS 7.1 devices.  The iPad2, as well as my Windows 7 laptop on the same WiFi network, are getting a full 15mbs download speed using the Ookla Speedtest.  I have tried resetting the wireless router, as well as resetting the network configurations on the iOS devices, rebooting the devices, etc., but the slow speeds persist.  While I can't definitively tie the issue to the iOS 7.1 upgrade, I distinctly recall running speedtests on the iPad Air in the past, and getting 15mbs.
    Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, Jim.  I double-checked my wireless router settings against the recommendations in the link you provided.  Only one setting was different.  I had the 2.4GHz channel width set to auto, and the recommendation is 20MHz.  I made this change.  The 5GHz channel is disabled on my router.
After the change, I got mixed results.  My iPhone 5S now gets over 15Mbs, but my iPad Air gets less than 1Mbs.  My iPad2, as well as my laptop, continue to get over 15Mbs.  I don't think the issue is with the router configuration at this time.  Any other suggestions?

  • Slow Internet download speed, OSX 10.9.5

Since updated to 10.9.5, my Mac Pro Internet download speed down to 7 Mbps,
and same on My MacBook Pro 10.9.5 too. both use to be 70 Mbps.
I am paying $50.00 extra to get the highest speed from Time Warner.
My iMac is 10.9.3, tops 70 Mbps.
My iPhone 5s tops tops 30 Mbps
    All in same WiFi network.
Upload speed all seem to be fine with 5 Mbps.
    Mac Pro = Mid 2010
Processor  2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
Mac Book Pro = Retina, 13-inch Late 2012
    Memory = 8 GB
    Something wrong!

Even the 'respected' tools like Onyx, if you look at what (each and every update) states in the "what is new" and changes will be to improve compatibility.
Never use or install anything (and I include OS X updates in that category) without cloning your system and having TimeMachine that is current, and backup(s) that will be off line.
Some cannot be trashed or deleted or removed without using an "uninstall app" or the installer, doing so without can mean having to reinstall first.
Or wipe the drive and restore from a known good backup set.

  • Crawling Wifi Download Speeds from iTunes Store

Ever since upgrading to iTunes 10.7, my download speeds from the iTunes store have slowed to a crawl. Prior to upgrading, I was able to download video podcasts and other media @ over 10 mbps over wifi. I have tried this on several other networks, and am experiencing the same speed issues. This does not appear to be a router issue or a FiOS issue; I have done all of the usual troubleshooting and do not seem to have any issues with download speeds outside of the iTunes store.
I am running the iTunes 10.7, and have updated OSX to the latest release of ML.
Is anyone else experiencing ridiculously slow download speeds through the iTunes store using iTunes for Mac or iOS 6 devices?

I have a 50x5 Mbit cable business class modem, from Time Warner, in my house (doing that give me priority bandwidth over other residences).... Also as a business class there's no data caps or port blockings.  The most I EVER get from the iTunes Store is 4-5MBytes/sec (about 35 Mbits)... Usually I get 1-2 MBytes/sec to iTunes or any device
    My guesses are
    1) Apple just doesn't have the bandwidth during certain times
    2) I notice they throttle accounts. If I download an entire hd season, I start out fast, then it slows after a few hrs... Im guessing apple has a max data cap per day then slows you down.
    3) I also don't think Apple is capable of handling all the new 35-50Mbit connections that are now readily available from the big cable companies.

  • Anyone else having slow wifi dl speeds from new ipad?

My download speeds on my iphone 4 on wifi are way faster than on my new ipad.  Same wifi network, both devices are next to each other.  On the iphone 4 download test i get around 1.15Mbps.  On my new ipad, .56Mps.  Something doesnt seem right and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this slow wifi issue?

for me the fix was to take my network off OpenDNS servers... and back to my ISP's DNS.... and instant fix...
disappointing, as i liked the service from them...
    hope this helps finovotny....

  • Slow safari download speeds

While safari loads web pages very quickly, it is extremely slow when downloading documents, installers, etc... onto my computer, downloading at speeds around 5 to 10 kb/second, causing even small downloads to take ages. (A 20mb download can take up to an hour or more).
(My downloads run at about 100 to 110 kb/second on my windows PC which is connected to the same router)
I have tried stopping and then resuming downloads, but that doesn't work. Also, there is clearly nothing wrong with my internet connection, as safari loads webpages remarkably fast.
Is there any software/changes that need to be added or is it an issue within safari?

    Hi there Jeff,
The slow downloading speed and other performance issues with Safari may be related to unsupported third-party add-ons. Take a look at the article linked below and try to remove any outdated add-ons for Safari.

  • Slow BT download speed

i just wonder is it part of OSX nature for slow BT download rate or juts some setting problem .
    Same torrent ,same condition.
ON OSX using Transmission or Azureus with port OPEN
alway only get about 1/3 -1/2 speed for the same torrent compare with Utorrent on XP.
is there any thing i can do to improve the download speed ?
    thx a lot.

Whilst software (especially music!) is much better and (in the long run) cheaper when bought from licensed shops etc (if you are e.g. a student, you often get stuff at 1/2 - 1/10th of the price!), more to your question, download speeds can vary dramatically, depending on time of the day, firewalls and available feeds.
Some broadband providers use telephone lines, some dedicated cable. Others mostly support (Windows PC's) and their platforms may not be set up for Macintosh.
Finally, e.g. someone in the UK, you do not make it clear, whether you refer to "British Telecom" (BT), whose down and upload speeds are not that impressive at times, OR are referring to "Bittorrent".
Hope you find some of the above useful.

  • HT4061 Apple air has very low wifi download speed.

Thisis the third time I have tried to get a solution.  My wife purchased and IPAD air to replace Ipad. The speed of the wifi is un acceptable.   I have tried all the various fixes but none have improved performance.  When I compare side by side to my lap top computer Apple speed is 1/5 what I should get, in fact, the Download speed is less than the upload speed.  this test was  conducted along side the router as well as at other locations with no difference in speed.
I am currently working on 2.5 mhz band dsl with netopia router.
Is there a real solution to this?
    Stan

    Hello piperstan,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Wi-Fi speed on your wife's iPad Air.  I understand that you have tried some troubleshooting steps already.  I found a few steps that I recommend for this issue.
If you have not yet tried these steps, I recommend following the steps below:
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings

  • Slower 4G Download Speeds and Higher Pings Tonight

Stillwater, OK. Tonight, the DL speeds and ping times are worse than normal. UL speeds are unaffected.
Normal speeds, representative of the last few weeks...
Tonight's speeds (similar results to different test servers in the area)...
Ping times have more than doubled, and the download speed has been cut to ~25% of normal. If I try a test server on the east coast, I get something like the following (bad UL speeds too)...
Scary to think this could be due to the tower becoming overloaded (it is prime time) so early in the 4G game. The only other thing I can think of is that its particularly humid tonight, but why would that affect mainly the DL speed and not the UL speed?

Speeds were still slow this morning, so I power-cycled the modem (and router). Speeds are back to normal, so it seems like I just needed to reboot the gear.

  • Slow 3G Download Speed

I've been having slow download speeds on my Iphone 3G for the 3G connection. I've had the phone for about 2 months and its been perfect until the speeds shot down in last two weeks. I did a scan on testmyiphone.com on my 3G download stream and it ended up being 0.11 MBPS. I did the same scan at the same location with my mates iphone and he had 1.5MBPS so it can't be location. I've tried reseting the network settings and restoring the phone but nothing has solved the issue. Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

  • Wifi download speed - Z3

Hi, my home WIFI network has a download speed of 70MBPS, when using my Z3, it only has a download speed of 3MBPS. I checked this with a speedtest app before and after a restart of both the phone and the router.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks

Teemboh are you using any bluetooth devices along with the wifi connection. Bluetooth and wifi use the same onboard chip in mobile devices. pairing up a bluetooth device will force the xperia to micro switch between 2 signals to keep both intact (bluetooth and wifi) this results in a huge performance loss on the wifi. and can even cause bluetooth connections to fail when wifi is used to download big amounts of data.
I never understood why manufacturers make one chip for bluetooth and wifi. Yes it uses the same 2.4 GHZ transmission but if both are used there is a tremendous loss of performance on both ends. HQ bluetooth headphones can suffer from stutter if wifi is also used and sometimes the signal drops of the bluetooth. i dont recommend using both at the same time.
This is not only the case with xperia devices but almost all new smartphones.
Havent tried this myself but you could try a 5 GHZ router and connect to this wifi signal. Maybe that helps.
I get 25 Mbit download on my router. when a Bluetooth headset is connected i get a very unstable 3 Mbit. In the time that i had a note 2 i contacted samsung for this problem but they kept saying that it cant be an issue and wifi should work on full speed. but when doing some more research i found the real truth fast enough. wifi and bluetooth really dont like eachother in smartphones
