Slow WIFI is perplexing me???

I'm trying to figure out why my devices run slowly from an extremely high speed broadband modem.
I have an iMac ethernet wired to my time capsule. My network runs at 150+ down and 10 megs/sec up.
The ethernet connection is incredible.
Then I have two airport expresses extended in an 1100 condo by no means huge. They connect through in a straight line.
My MacBook Air runs at about 25-35 down and 10 up.
The iPhone at about 50 down and 10 up
The iPad about 15 to 20 down and 10 up.
I've actually seen the MacBook Air run at 75 down.
I can't figure out wy this network runs so slowly as the signal strength is excellent. It's all current equipment bought in the last 6 months.
Does anyone have any idea if this is normal. It seems very abnormal to me.
Thanks
Kerry

Well problem solved. It was the Rogers modem, a Hitron, for their Ultimate service. I got it March 23rd as you needed it for these speeds and noticed there was something off. I kept calling Rogers and it would seem alright after some troubleshooting till this week. The network would constantly go down or underperform.
Roger's was going to send out a tech and I said I'll go and change this modem out as I was suspicious it was that. I'd never had trouble in 14 years and then all of sudden I'm having trouble. But I was changing other things around at the same time like making my cell what they call a Rogersonenumber phone but all that is is turning my phone into a VOIP system so I can talk through my iMac, iPad and Panasonic portable phones over my internet. It's a new tech to Rogers.
So I changed the Rogers Hitron modem out and the network is performing wonderfully. Stable and very fast. The wifi on all devices is running between 2 to 3 x's as fast.
I haven't got this set at the 5 gig hz I don't think so maybe I can squeeze more performance out of it.
I agree I have 1 too many base stations. I use one Airport Express to stream my music. The other the Apple guy said try and see if I've got a bad Airport Express. He just said if it's that exchange it and return the new one which sounded fine. I found it improved things when I added it as a third but not like now.
Even though I'm overloaded with wifi I'm going to keep it. The Airport that is servicing the stereo is at the farthest point from the Time Capsule. The other one is close to the Time Capsule which is in the master bedroom and is close to me as it is the middle bedroom and then I'm in the living room.
All this WIFI I've got running in here though I'm sure is going to zap my brain one of these days.
Not sure whether to switch it to 5 ghz or leave well enough alone.

  • Time capsule painfully slow wifi

New time capsule , painfully slow wifi , cisco works lightning fast so the issue is with the TC. Looked at forums and I see it's a common isssue. Any ideas that actually work?

Download the free  iStumbler  app to examine the strength of your connection.
If it's not good, look for interference with another wireless device, cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.  Turn them off temporarily;  if you find an offender, move it farther away.  See  AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference  for more.
    Try different WIFI channels.

  • AirPort Time Capsule (firmware v7.7.3) has slow wifi connection to new Surface Pro 3

I got a new Surface Pro 3 i7. I have all the updates for it. I ran into a problem that many others also ran into which was very slow WiFi performance. I utilized many troubleshooting methods and sources and I am currently inclined to believe this... the new Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller drivers are not compatible with my Airport Time Capsule firmware version 7.7.3.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another firmware version that works (older or newer)?
    Details:
I tried all kinds of things, like changing the network drivers on the SP3 to many different versions. Many of the help forums recommended using the drivers dated 4/24/2014. This did seem to help, but not reliably. What I discovered is... if I connect using the SP3 WiFi to my network extension Airport Express on version 7.6.4, I reliably get 20-22 mbps (which is the best I can expect from my network and works great for my needs). But, when I connect to my primary network Airport Time Capsule, the best I can get is 1.5 mbps, but usually between .15 and .9 mbps. It's completely unusable in today's internet environment. At the same time, I used my iPhone and the Airport Utility to verify the connections.  I used SpeedTest.net on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone and Win8.1 HP laptop to verify that every other device was getting the 20+mbps. And they did.  Only the Surface Pro 3 couldn't perform when using WiFi through the Airport Time Capsule. The SP3 does achieve 20+ mbps like all my other devices, but only when connected to the Airport Express.
The articles I read said that the network drivers on the SP3 seem to require the routers to be updated to the latest versions. Both the Airport Time Capsule and the Airport Express seem to be updated. When I go into their settings using the Airport Utility, there are no updates available.
Of course this problem isn't replicated at the Microsoft store since they don't have apple routers.  So, their response is to upgrade the routers.  Extremely unhelpful when the Apple software is saying it is upgraded already. I can't believe this new Airport Time Capsule has to be retired because it isn't playing well with others, and I love the automatic backup it is providing for my MacBook. So, somehow, I need the Airport Time Capsule to work with the new WiFi card & drivers on my SP3, just like the SP3 is working properly with the Airport Express.

    Thanks for your input!
    1. No downgrade. Bummer, but understandable.
    2. Completely agree!!! I did too and then I had to redo it because I couldn't install a driver. I had to start all over and reinstall Win 8 then Win 8.1 over it. It was a colossal waste of time and endless frustration. If I can just get it modestly working, I'll take it. It doesn't have to be perfect right now.
    3.  Great suggestion! And the Microsoft forums are also a buzz. One suggestion I tried (and it seems to be working) is to set a separate wireless network name for the 5ghz band. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but I'm hopeful.  I t seems to have worked for some, but not others. The next thing I'll try is fixing the channel, but strangely, I didn't see that option in the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone. Is it only available through Mac/PC laptop/desktop software?
    4. Yup. Sigh. I actually have an old linksys. I retired it when I went 100% apple. I was hoping that things would work smoother. And they did! Until this SP3 came into my life. Arg.
And and a few more details...
the AirPort Time Capsule is 802.11ac
the AirPort Express is 802.11n (2nd gen)
I'm wondering if it is the AC connection that is the issue. Maybe since the Express always connects with n, it is OK....
Nope. Just tested the SP3 again and it is maintaining it's connection to the AirPort Time Capsule utiling the 802.11a/n/ac mode and connecting to the 5Ghz special network name. So far so good... Fingers crossed...

  • Slow wifi - windows 7 on imac

    Hi!
Im having slow wifi when I use windows 7 (bootcamp) on my new imac 27 late 2012.
When I use OS X I get 23-24mbits down and 4,9mbit/s up on my 25/5mbis/s connection. When using Windows 7 I get only 2mbit/s down but upload is fine. My macbook pro, stationary pc and all other devices using the same wifi connection is also fine. Wireless signal comes from AirPort Extreme base station (updated software). I noticed the problem when playing games in windows and got lagging both ingame and over mumble voice. Same problem when I connect cable directly from base station to my imac.
I have reinstalled drivers using both broadcom and windows drivers. Tried changing wireless channels on Airport base station, no change. There is no other detectable wireless networks nearby, thinking it could interfer with the signal. And as I said it works fine when I boot into OS X.
    Please help =)

think you will find you will get much much more responses in the bootcamp forum

On my iphone 5 , i m facing slow wifi issue. Ios 6.0.2 didnt resloved it.any one please told me ios 6.1 fixed this issue or not b/c i m right now not in a mood to install the ios 6 .

It seems that people experience slow wifi on iphone with IOS 6 under slightly different circumstances.
Some have slow/choppy video streaming, some have problems with large dropbox files, some with app store and some with podcasts.
    Which is your problem AdeelRasheed?
Me personally, I have download speed when on wifi.
    But only when downloading podcasts...
    Running 6.0.1 or 6.1 on iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
On WIFI I can download a 45 mb app from the appstore in less than a minute. I can stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. Internet browsing - no problems.
But downloading podcasts with Instacast 3, Downcast or the Apple Podcast app happens at a rate of 20-80 kb/s when on WIFI. As soon as I switch to 3g ( 4g/LTE is not yet available from my local provider) my download speed goes to between 300kb/s and 2 mb/s.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • MacBook Air slow wifi at times, unreliable internet

    i have the 2012 macbook air.version 10.8.5
it works super good HOWEVER, sometimes my wifi and internet can get really slow. I doubt its my new AC airport extreme because the internet on every other device in my house works perfectly.
its just my macbook air that at very random times, will seem to have extremely slow wifi. like it will take 30 seconds to load google. and i've tried multiple sites and it still doesn't work.
this will happen about every week or so for a couple of hours. when i connect to a different network, my mac will no longer have any internet speed issues
is anyone else having these problems?

    Power Cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro 10.8.2 very slow wifi

All of my other wireless devices are very quick on my home wifi. I am using a macbook pro, 2.5 GHz i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I have installed all updates, tried making a new network location, still very slow. 8 hours to download a 4.6 GB app from the store. My 06 iMac will download files this size in minutes and it's still running pre snow leopard OSX. Anyone know whats going on here? I'm very disappointed so far. Hope there is a fix.

My new 2013 MacBook Pro 13" retina had same WiFi issue.  Please go to this Website and follow the instructions to change your router's settings. http://www.s0hel.com/blog/401/fixed-slow-wifi-issue-with-new-macbook-pro/
Yesterday I changed my router's settings and now I don't see any WiFi issues.
I hope this works for you.

My  phone is still in warranty

I Have same issue with wifi on iPad air with 8.0.2 being qa engineer myself I am amazed how company like apple can release something with fundamental issues with wifi and cellular. I guess basic tests are missing and Apple needs to employ good people in test and do not get into this kind of disgrace next time. There is no fix? I have issues with apps upgrade too due to slow wifi, come on apple don't be Samsung or Chinese companies!!!!

  • Slow wifi on iPad Air after converting to iOS8

I am experiencing painfully slow wifi response on my iPad Air after converting to iOS8.  I tried disabling the WiFi Networking setting under System Services and even did a "Reset Network Settings".  All to no avail.

I changed the DNS settings on the iPad Air Wi-Fi settings to Google DNS 8.8.8.8
It helped but this morning I've noticed Safari webpage not opening...

  • Anyone else having slow wifi dl speeds from new ipad?

My download speeds on my iphone 4 on wifi are way faster than on my new ipad.  Same wifi network, both devices are next to each other.  On the iphone 4 download test i get around 1.15Mbps.  On my new ipad, .56Mps.  Something doesnt seem right and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this slow wifi issue?

for me the fix was to take my network off OpenDNS servers... and back to my ISP's DNS.... and instant fix...
disappointing, as i liked the service from them...
    hope this helps finovotny....

  • Slow wifi iPhone 5

With same AirPort Extreme, I have slow wifi, slower than an iPhone 3Gs, same software iOS 6.1.2. Any explanation ?

My experience is just the opposite - much faster WiFi when using "n" protocol.    See this:

  • Slow wifi with iPad

I have a slow wifi connection. Belkin says its an Apple issue. Suggestions.

Slow meaning downloading a newspaper that used to happen in less than 20 seconds, now takes over 2 1/2 minutes or longer and sometimes so long that a download error happens.  Everything is very slow now.  I used to get things to download in seconds, or at least under a minute.  It's been like this since I upgraded (seems like I downgraded).
