Slow WiFi Network Caused by MacBook Pro

Hi all,
I've had my MacBook Pro for about 3 months now but have noticed the WiFi download speeds are particularly poor. Having read a few articles, I've tried a number of "fixes" but to no avail. What makes this more puzzling is that it doesn't just affect my MacBook but EVERY device connected to my WiFi suffers from poor speeds when my MacBook is switched on.
If my MacBook is off I get about 17Mbps but when it's on, I only get about 3Mbps. The pings are slow too - around 300ms. I've tried switching off Bluetooth and WiFi but still other devices are affected. The only way to restore decent download speeds is to turn the MacBook off completely.
Some things I've tried to fix the issue include; turning off Bluetooth, deleting the WiFi connection, forgetting the WiFi network, resetting the router, changing the security settings of the router and switching off all other devices in case one is causing a conflict.
I'm baffled!
Has anyone experienced this? Any other suggested fixes?
Thanks,
Kevin

OK, so I've finally solved the issue (after a couple of months!) - tonight I stumbled across this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3733629?start=0&tstart=0
Disabling photo streaming and then resetting the router has done the trick!

  • How can I change the preferred WiFi network in my MacBook Pro

How can I change the preferred order of networks on my MacBook Pro? There used to be one network at my office. Now there is a second higher speed wifi network also present which I would prefer to connect to, but the Macbook connects to the older one unless manually changed.

Apple menu > System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Wi-Fi > Drag networks into the order you prefer.

  • How forget a wifi network on a MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I entered the wrong password for a wifi network at my uncle's house and I can't figure out how to re-enter the password. Or how to forget the network so I am printed to re-enter the password.

The MacBook keeps a list of all wireless networks you connected. Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced, and remove this wireless network from "Preferred networks". Then, try to connect again to this network. Anyway, your computer should ask you for the password if it wasn't typed properly

  • I can no longer connect to the cloud which is a free wifi network with my macbook pro although my iPad is fine.

thecloud are not providing much help and I wonder whether any of you know how I can clear any settings that might need to be refreshed.  I can connet to other wifi networks with no problem.

They seem to think this is a known issue for MACS

  • I´m having problems with my wifi an my new Macbook pro.  It doesn´t remember the network so every time I log on - I have to "join a network"

I´m having problems with my wifi an my new Macbook pro.  It doesn´t remember the network so every time I log on - I have to "join a network".  I have "ticked" the "remember password" box. I´m connecting to a wireless network on an regular Speedtouch router at home.   I´m new to Mackintosh.

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

Not on an iPhone, but on your Mac: Keychain Access>Enter the name of the WiFi network in the search bar>Info Button>Check Box "Show Password">Enter your Admin password>If will appear.

Create two locations in Network, one for one and one for the other.

I cannot seem to get all of my music shared across the network from my MacBook Pro to my iPad. This was not an issue a few days ago. I can see all my songs if sorted that way, but if i sort by artist, only a few of them are present. Can anyone help or have any insight?

Well I didn't think of it before, but I logged out of my apple ID othe iPad's home sharing. The I logged back in and it worked. It's a little weird, but I will take it. Thanks!

  • Network printing from Macbook Pro?

    Here is my setup: Printer->USB to->iMac->ethernet to->Airport Extreme 802.11n->ethernet to->Linksys Switch in another room->ethernet to->Macbook Pro.
    I also can connect wirelessly.
My question: Can I somehow send things to be printed through my network from my Macbook Pro? The printserver included in my airport extreme isn't compatible with my printer so I don't use it, so I just have it connected directly to my iMac in the other room. Thanks.
-hope i didnt make it too confusing-

On the iMac, open System Preferences->Sharing and enable Printer Sharing.
    That should do it.

You can view stored passwords in Keychain Access in the utilities folder in Applications.

i am looking for wifi adapter for my MacBook Pro(Mavericks 10.9.2). Somebody help me to find compatible Wifi adapter for my MacBook.

Thanks Bob! i already opened this search page but i didn't found anything compatible to mavericks!!!!
Then you are not looking very well. The first one in the list has compatible wifi adapters. Mavericks compatable wifi adapters are included in most of the results from my link.
If there are not enough results included in the list try modifying my search term. Try this instead:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=usb+wifi+adapter+for+mavericks
    There are dozens/hundreds listed.

  • Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro?

Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro? If so, is it worth it?
I currently run OSX 10.7.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb mem.

Does it meet the specs for Lion?
    Are your third apps compatible?
I'd also be sure to have at least 4GB RAM and 10-15% free space on your HDD.

I think the best you can do is use the System Information application (Utilities Folder), looking in the wireless section.
