Slow wifi - windows 7 on imac

Hi!
Im having slow wifi when I use windows 7 (bootcamp) on my new imac 27 late 2012.
When I use OS X I get 23-24mbits down and 4,9mbit/s up on my 25/5mbis/s connection. When using Windows 7 I get only 2mbit/s down but upload is fine. My macbook pro, stationary pc and all other devices using the same wifi connection is also fine. Wireless signal comes from AirPort Extreme base station (updated software). I noticed the problem when playing games in windows and got lagging both ingame and over mumble voice. Same problem when I connect cable directly from base station to my imac.
I have reinstalled drivers using both broadcom and windows drivers. Tried changing wireless channels on Airport base station, no change. There is no other detectable wireless networks nearby, thinking it could interfer with the signal. And as I said it works fine when I boot into OS X.
Please help =)

think you will find you will get much much more responses in the bootcamp forum

  • Slow wifi speeds with imac 3.06ghz

    Hello,
So I just got my new imac 3.06ghz with 2gb of ram and I have noticed the internet speed when using wifi is extremely slow. Currently I am using a linksys wrt54G router with time warner cable. If I have my old 1st gen macbook side by side with my imac the macbook shows full signal strength on the airport and the imac shows only a few bars. If I run a speed test with them both the macbook downloads at around 1.5mb and the imac gets a blazing 51k.
Weird symptom on the imac is the blue status bar starts to load in safari, it gets about 3/4 through and then freezes and sits at 3/4 done for a few minutes. During this time images and text on the site slowly start to show up, just like if you were back on a dialup connection.
    Troubleshooting that I have done:
    reset smc and pram
    erase and install
    downloaded all available software updates
changed the channel that the router is broadcasting on
    - router security is using wep and mixed b&g
    - other devices that work fast with a wireless connection on the router are an iphone, xbox 360 and nintendo ds
    * even tried testing with win xp and bootcamp but I haven't figured out how to get windows to recognize the wireless card yet
So i'm at the point where I'm assuming this is a hardware issue, maybe the airport antenna?
    Any other suggestions?

Everyone on here that is experiencing these wifi issues with their new iMacs NEEDS to call Apple and get this elevated. I'm out of the country right now but I'm in the middle of troubleshooting this issue with Apple. I've spoken with several techs and most don't read this forum and are unaware of any widespread wifi issue with the iMacs. When I return home I will be continuing my troubleshooting with Apple on this issue. My symptoms are very similar to the ones posted in several recent threads on this issue. So far it is pointing to a software problem but I can't rule out the hardware yet. However using BootCamp I can launch Windows Vista on the same machine and surf the internet at high speed through the same Time Capsule. Also all other PC's on my home network are connecting to the Time Capsule at high speed with no hiccups. I didn't notice the problem until all the updates were loaded onto my new iMac which I received July 18th.

  • Extremely slow wifi on an iMac

    Hello,
All of a sudden my wifi connection between my 'old' iMac (Intel 3 GHz) and the modem/router is extremely slow. Other machines in the same area don't have this problem so I'm tempted to rule out a problem with the router. What didn't work to get rid of this problem:
switching Airport OFF then back ON several times
    restarting the iMac
    restarting the modem/router
I checked the channels, I'm the only one on channel 3 in the neighborhood. There's no encryption.
Anything else I could do ? Thanks in advance !

  • Slow wifi only on iMac

First of all, I have no idea where to post this question, so any redirect ideas are appreciated.
Time Warner Internet, with LinkSys router.  On iPad,15.5 Mbps, but on granny iMac (circa 2007, running Lion) get between .52 and .78 Mbps.  Can't work from home, time-outs causing problems.
This is probably a File Vault issue, but I'm not sure -- when I upgraded to Lion, ended up with Legacy File Vault which I cannot turn off or uninstall b/c not enough HD space.  500GB HD, 136GB available; File Vault wants 243.7GB free, which is probably impossible to do.
How likely is it that File Vault is causing the problems?  Do I have any options here, other than replacing the iMac?
    Thanks.

Most often BitTorrent, iCloud, Dropbox, or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream and Documents & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup or file-sync software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, if you're running OS X 10.9 or later, you can see which processes are most active on the network.
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the View menu, if not already selected, and also select the Network tab.
Click the heading of the Sent Bytes column in the process table to sort the entries by bandwidth usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Repeat with the Rcvd Bytes column.

  • New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, etc

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

  • Mac OS internet 5x slower than Windows 7 on BootCamp

    Alright, here is my problem...
My one and only computer is a mid 2010 iMac... I recently moved to a new place. Prior to me moving I was stuck with an awful 3Mbps download speed. (You can tell how much I hated it by looking at my username) Now that I moved, I am able to get much faster internet. So, I got a plan that offers up to 50Mbps download speeds (Xfinity Blast cable internet). I didn't want to rent my ISP's modem/router, so I purchased my own. I got a Motorola sbg6580. As soon as I got everything hooked up, it seemed perfect. I used speedtest.net to see what I was getting. I first tested on Windows 7. To my surprise, I was getting around 70Mbps. I then restarted my iMac into the Mac OS to do some speed tests. On the Mac OS, I was getting around 50-60Mbps. A bit slower than Windows 7, but still very good. The next day I decided to do a "real world" test. I downloaded a 1 Gigabyte file just to see how fast it was. Now, if I was getting 50Mbps the file should have taken just under 3 minutes to download. Instead, it took around 7 minutes. I figured it was maybe just the website I was downloading from. (the file I was downloading was the Cry Enginge SDK - http://www.crydev.net/ ) I did some research and discovered the website testmy.net - I am not sure if this is completely reliable or not, but every test I do on testmy.net I get around 10Mbps. At first I thought it was my ISP ripping me off, then I decided to do a testmy.net test on Windows 7 via BootCamp. (please note that on both Mac OSX and Windows 7 I did multiple tests over the coarse of multiple days) On Windows, I could instantly tell that the test was going much faster. The results for testmy.net on Windows 7 were 50-60Mbps. I did not completely trust the website, so I downloaded the same Cryengine SDK on Windows. It took around 3 minutes, just as it should have. I researched a bunch online trying to find info on this problem. I tried many "solutions" but none of them changed anything. (these include but are not limited to: Tried different DNS servers, Disabled ipv6, disabled sbg6580 firewall, disabled mac osx firewall, tried changing the wireless channel, and reset sbg6580. I came to the conclusion that it was the sbg6580. I thought that maybe an airport express would give me better results. So, today I bought an Airport express. With the sbg6580, I was able to disable the router features so it was just a modem. I was then able to set up the Airport express as my router. It fixed nothing. I am still getting the same results, Windows is still getting anywhere from 50-60Mbps while Mac OSX is getting around 10Mbps. I am out of ideas, if anyone could please help me that would be great. Also, if you need to know anything else please let me know. I may have missed something...
    A quick note:
At my old house I had my iMac hooked up to a surge protector. For maximum internet performance, my iMac was connected to my router with an ethernet cable. During a bad storm one day, a lightning bolt either hit my house or very close to it. Ever since, my ethernet port has not worked. I have tried multiple eithernet cables as well as multiple routers and networks. I do not have the money for apple to completely replace my logic board. - So anyway, I am unable to test the performace with an eithernet cable.
    Extra information:
My sbg6580 as well as my Airport extreme are both sitting on the same desk as my iMac, so it is obviously not a signal problem.
I also own both a iPod touch 5th gen and a iPad 2nd gen. I am getting around 20-30Mbps on both of them. I am not sure what would be a "good speed" on either of these, but I figured that was pretty good for a tablet and ipod.
The upload speeds on both windows 7 and Mac OSX are around the same 5-10Mbps.
I am using Google Chrome on both Windows 7 and Mac OSX but, I have also tried Firefox and Safari.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro 10.8.2 very slow wifi

All of my other wireless devices are very quick on my home wifi. I am using a macbook pro, 2.5 GHz i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I have installed all updates, tried making a new network location, still very slow. 8 hours to download a 4.6 GB app from the store. My 06 iMac will download files this size in minutes and it's still running pre snow leopard OSX. Anyone know whats going on here? I'm very disappointed so far. Hope there is a fix.

My new 2013 MacBook Pro 13" retina had same WiFi issue.  Please go to this Website and follow the instructions to change your router's settings. http://www.s0hel.com/blog/401/fixed-slow-wifi-issue-with-new-macbook-pro/
Yesterday I changed my router's settings and now I don't see any WiFi issues.
I hope this works for you.

  • Activate AirPort Express via D-Link DI-634M WiFi router to iMac Leopard

I installed an AirPort Express last year via Windows and a "g" WiFi router. Worked, but sporadically. Upgraded to MiMo router (using WPA-PSK) for better range and security, but AirPort Express stopped working.
This month, converted from Windows to iMac (OS-X 10.0) and trying to get AirPort Express working, but Setup Guide is useless, and my system doesn't "see" the AirPort.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Gib

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Slow network rate for imac

I have recently moved to a wireless N network & it seemed fine but now using it the imac I use is really slow. it is this :-
Imac 3.06 Intel, 4Gb RAM on mac os x 10.5.7
I have a new macbook 2.4 Intel, 4Gb RAM on mac os x 10.5.7 on the same network sat right next to the imac & the transmit rate is around 120 for the macbook but only maxing out @ 65 if I am lucky for the imac!
Does anyone know how to solve this, what could be the problem or where to look for help?

Sorry -- but there are 100's of posts about this and similar subjects.. seems IMacs with 10.5.7 are just having all sorts of problems with Wifi.. if you should come across anything that helps let us know!.

  • Slow wifi/ 3G fix

    Hi,
I felt i should sign up after reading about the problems people are having with slow wifi/ 3G on their IP4.
I have been having the same problems but have discovered a quick fix (apologies if this has been on here already and ive not seen it)
    Go to:
Setting -> general -> spotlight search
    untick everything
That should have sorted it. It has on mine. My phone is 10 times quicker on loading apps and everything! I'm extremely annoyed that a fix hasnt been patched through for this but I dont use spotlight search so it wont affect me.
Give it a go and let me know any feedback. Cheers.
    J

I tried the spotlight disablement, but it doesn't change my WiFi speeds, dang.
My 3GS has really slow internet access—13Mbps—compared to my two iMacs, which both get 29-30Mbps. One iMac's directly connected to my Airport Extreme router, and the other is connected wirelessly via WiFi. (My provider is Comcast, and I measured using speedtest.net.)
802.11n would probably be faster, but with the 3GS's 802.11g, it should be possible to get download speeds in the mid 20's, right?

  • Slow wifi speeds ipad 4th generation

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone which are getting the best speeds possible for them. My router is a virgin super hub which I know are notoriously pants but I've tweaked all the settings and got it running fine. Ipad download speeds are never better than 16mb/s and I have a 60mb/s download.  Is this a hardware issue or is there something I can do?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Would like to install windows on iMac 1 TB?

would like to install windows on iMac 1 TB?

    (Borrowed from Kappy)
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Slow wifi network with iPhone

I have a latest model 16GB iPhone and am seeing extremely slow internet speeds over my home wifi network. Some of my friends are having the same problem.
I have a fairly modern ethernet-only ADSL2+ belkin router, which is connected to my time capsule. I'm using my time capsule to provide wireless internet access. There are two macs on the network with 802.11n cards, and a third mac with 802.11g, as well as my iPhone. I also have an airport express (i'm fairly sure it also has 802.11n) which is used exclusively for printing.
When I run a broadband speed test, I get 4 to 5Mbit on the mac with 802.11g. But on my iPhone I'm only seeing speeds of around 0.5Mbit!
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?

    Hi imobl,
Im having the same issue as virkdaman even after I updated to iOS 6.0.2. The Wifi network gets disconected frequently even when I use home wifi while my iMac is connecting to home wifi with no issue. My Iphone5 has never been jailbroken. Is it I have to wait for another iOs update to get this issue fixed?
    Thanks

  • Time capsule painfully slow wifi

New time capsule , painfully slow wifi , cisco works lightning fast so the issue is with the TC. Looked at forums and I see it's a common isssue. Any ideas that actually work?

Download the free  iStumbler  app to examine the strength of your connection.
If it's not good, look for interference with another wireless device, cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.  Turn them off temporarily;  if you find an offender, move it farther away.  See  AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference  for more.
    Try different WIFI channels.
