Slow Windows-based network devices (smb) discovery?

Hi
I've noticed a problem with accessing windows file shares.
After a successfull boot of my mac it takes around 5-10 min for macOS to detect my windows computer on network.
This is very long time and i cannot access the shares without waiting.
I've read a lot about issues with samba and apple's samba's custom implementation however i've found no working solution for my case.
Has anyone experience similiar issues with slow windows devices network discovery?

I am experiencing the same issue... I was searching the whole afternoon but until now unable to find a solution...

  • Transition from Windows-based network to Linux-based

    I am looking to make the switch from a Windows based network to a Linux based one. Currently the network includes a Windows 2003 server which acts as a domain controller and file server, a network shared printer (Canon 2300N) and 7 clients running Windows. Several other Windows-based clients connect remotely via RDP.
    I would like to setup a server to act as a domain controller, file server, and (if possible) terminal server. The clients should be authenticated via the server and have access to the files stored on it (via ssh?).
    Here are several points that I was wondering about:
    All the clients use Outlook, some of the clients run Quickbooks Pro and another program called Tentant File Pro. I was thinking about replacing Outlook with Thunderbird (I contact, calendar, and tasks) and I know that Wine can't run Quickbooks and Tenant File Pro so I may have to use VirtualBox/VMWare because these applications can't be replaced by native Linux versions.
    I need an adequate backup solution for the files on the server running as a daily backup.
    Should I use webmin to administer the server?
    What antivirus / firewall solution should I use for the server and the clients?
    How can I allow remote clients the login to the server to be able to run applications (Outlook, Browser, Tenant File Pro, etc.) remotely on the server?
    What is the best solution for this? And what would be the least painful way of making the transition for the users?
    I know this is a lot, but any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Probably not Arch if you just want to dump all these questions on the community rather than research it all individually yourself.
    Perhaps Turnkey Linux would be suitable to get you up and running:

    (NB: Arch is the COMPLETE opposite of Turnkey Linux)

  • Can I add my mac book pro onto my Windows based network?

    Hi everyone! I just got my Mac Book Pro a couple of weeks ago and let me say, its my first mac computer ever. I love it! I have a windows wireless network, and I can connect to it wireless with no problem. The only thing I can figure out is how to use my printer connected to my windows machine. I dont know if you can add a network printer on a mac like you can on a pc. Can someone help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    If your priter is a network printer then it should be connected via ethernet or wifi to your network with an ip address....yes mac computers can print using network printers..
    now you said your printer is attached to your computer which means you do no have it on the network... you may have it shared to your workgroup.
    mac's are able to connect to xp workgroups (not sure about vista).. i will attach the link to how to attach a mac to your windows workgroup..(its pretty much attaching yourself to the network with user name and pw)

  • Apple computer on a Windows based Network

    Okay, here is the question. We have a network where I work that is solely setup for non-Mac computers. We have just purchased 2 Macs to use for doing multi media. The Director of Information Systems feels it necessary to keep the new ones off the network in fear of the new Macs spreading viruses and other bad mojo throughout the the network. Have there been any such reports of this happening? I've tried to explain to her that since we are just using for an internet connection it shouldn't do any harm or even if we were hooked up to the network it wouldn't do any damage. Help me save the embarassment.

    Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    As already pointed out you may well get a better answer elsewhere however Macs network very well with Windows networks and viruses? you've got to be joking You can install Anti Virus on the Mac to prevent them spreading viruses onward. They will be the only machines standing on the day your firm gets hit anyway.
    OS X is inherently more secure than Windows for a variety of reasons including the fact that you need to enter the Admin password to make system changes or install software (so nothing can install itself - ad/spy/mal ware etc).

  • Remote access to a Windows-based network at work from my Mac

    How do I do this?
    I am told that https://remote.xxx.com/remote should work.

    I do have a username and password, so that using
    https://remote.company domain name/remote gets me, via Microsoft Exchange, to a web login window entitled web Office Outlook Login where I put my username and password.  I can access company mail and there are buttons for email and file access.  The email access works.  The file access doesn't.

  • Can I set up a Mac Pro as a server using OSX Server for my current Windows-based office?

    I have a small business, and our office currently has a Windows-based network.  I love my Mac and it's ease of use, and for now I have to use Remote Desktop to log on to my server, and then run my MRP/ERP business software from that.  Is there an Apple solution (Mac Pro?) for my server, where other users could run parallels to access the MRP/ERP software?  Thanks!

    It is possible - even quite easy - to turn almost any current or recent model of Mac into a server by installing OS X Server. It is less clear, however, that this will do what you want.
    What are the hardware and software requirements of your MRP/ERP software? If it will only run under Windows or any OS other than Mac OS X, then it will not work, and installing OS X Server will not change that.
    You may be able to get the MRP/ERP software to run under Windows run on a Mac using Parallels or VMWare Fusion, but it would still be running under the Windows OS, just virtualized so that it runs inside the Mac OS. Thus it will not be any easier to use than your current system, and in fact may be harder, and might not work at all.
    You could also run Windows under BootCamp, but again, while the Windows OS would be running natively, you lose any ease of use of the Mac OS.
    Best of luck.

  • SAP B1 on Windows Handheld Smart device

    Dear Experts,
    The following is my requirement...
    I have Windows based smart devices (Barcode scanner integrated), they run on Windows CE, I want to write an application which can be installed on these devices and Users can post transactions (Inventory Transfer, GR, GI).
    I have started a windows Smart Devic+e project in VS 2005, And I have added the SAP B1 DI API 8.8 as a reference. Now when I am trying to connect in the Emulator, I am getting the error. "Class is not Registered".
    This is my first smart device project. Please advice on how to proceed further.
    Thanks In advance,
    Vasu Natari.

    Hi Vasu
    Download B1WSSourceCode_1.1 - it has the source for B1WS and includes samples.
    The services default to localhost and in the sample, you have to change the app.config file to point them to your web server (if indeed it is not your localhost).
    In a smart device application, which has not app.config, set the URL property.
        Public Sub New()
            _Service = New StockTransferService
            _Service.Url = "http://192.168.0.250/B1WS/Service.asmx"
            Dim msgHeader As MsgHeader = New MsgHeader()
            msgHeader.SessionID = GlbData.SessionID
            msgHeader.ServiceName = MsgHeaderServiceName.StockTransferService
            msgHeader.ServiceNameSpecified = True
            _Service.MsgHeaderValue = msgHeader
        End Sub
    That is the typical example of a service you will find in the samples - note the _service.url setting.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible for a mac to run across a Windows based server such as in a school, and still be able to access all networked folders? I have been told that macs can only read down a certain number of folders

    Is it possible to run a mac on a windows based server? We have a server based on Windows 7 in our school, and our techies are reluctant to let me buy a mac as they say macs can only read a number of folders deep, which would preclude me from accessing shared folders on our servers. Is this true, and is there a way round this? I would eventually like to get a suite of macs, but because all our resources are on the server, I have to be able to access them.
    Thanks for any help,
    Mike

    I have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong.  I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties.   And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
    All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can.

  • MacBooc Air slow on reading and transferring file on a Windows NT network

    I have McBook Air running OS 10.6.
    I'm working in a company having a network and server managend by Windows NT.
    Opening files on the server takes a long time.
    Checking .pdf files take long time (seconds and seconds) to see the pre-view of the files. More time to open them.
    I.e. using a PC windows based, tan take 1 sec; with my mac i need 10 secs. More bigger is the file, more is the difference.
    a pdf file of 2 Mb takes 20 sec to show the preview only.
    what can i do?

    I like to add some additional information. I'm Running
    Mac OS 10.6 in our company. The problem is that when we try to move a file from a Windows 2000 server to the new MacAir, the transfer speed is way to slow (350Kb/sec). I know that Macs running OS 9.x work just great accessing the Windows server, the speed is just like using a windows machine (this has been told to me from a friend).
    The McAir is taking about 30 minutes to transfer a 100mb file.
    Any possible solution?

  • How do I share wifi data between iMac and windows based computer on wifi network?

    I have an unsecured wifi network at home and need to easily share photos between computers>  I have an iMac and a couple window based computer> Is ther an easy way instead of using a thumb drive?

    Since photos are typically large files it will probably be quicker with the thumb drive. The other way is to set up sharing where the files are located and directing the other computers to look there.

  • How to force Windows Mobile Professional device to use only Wi-fi network provisioned through Afaria 7 SP4

    Hi
    We are deploying Windows Mobile Professional devices on our environments. All the devices connects only to internal network through Wi-fi.  Our security policy do not allow these devices to be connected to any other network (Other Wi-fi, Cellular etc).  Is there any way to force the devices to use only the Wi-fi network provisioned through Afaria.

    I have the same problem with an early 2013 macbook pro. gfxCardStatus ( http://gfx.io/ ) will allow you to force integrated and not do dynamic switching, however the external display still doesn't work.

  • Profilemanager for windows based computers and android devices

    Is there anyway  to set up windows based computers or android devices in profile manager?  I assume not so is there another way to do this?

    No ProfileManager is for Apple devices only. If you want to cover Windows or Android instead of or as well as Apple devices then you need to look at an alternative like MobileIron.

    I agree. In my opinion Sun has done a horrible job documenting all this madness for the average developer just starting out with this stuff. There is the CLDC, J2ME, Personal Java, J2ME-WTK, MIDP, MIDP-FCS ... maddness. Anyway after sorting through it all for a few days, I think the answer to your question you will need to use Personal Java for WinCE and the Sharp Zaurus, and MIDP for PalmOS for the palm. Jeode seems to be the most common and best Personal Java implementation and it is basically the JDK1.2.2 (or is it 1.1.8) that is designed to run on WinCE and Embeddix (such as Lineo on the Zaurus). You program it just like you would a 1.1.8 application and then you can test it by running pjava.exe which is included in the personal java 3.1 download from Sun. There is also a program called JavaCheck that will ensure that your app will run properly in PersonalJava. As for the Palm, MIDP for PalmOS is a 574K program that installs on your palm device. You then use the J2ME-WTK (wireless toolkit) to build a JAR/JAD file and you use the MIDP API to write the code.
