Slow WLAN on my Equium notebook

Hi,
My wired desktop is fine but when connecting to the internet on the wireless my Equium laptop it's really slow! I have updated the WLAN drivers and this initially seemed to help, but I'm back to square one with the speed again! Any help would be much appreciated.
I have had no problems like this before and the wireless internet has been slow for about a week now, but since upgrading the drivers it has been transiently faster. Do I need to update any other drivers?!
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Usually another updates are not needed. I would recommend checking firstly the Advanced settings in the WLan card properties.
You can access the properties through device manager -> network controller -> WLan card (right click properties).
The Advanced settings tab provides different options which could helps to get better WLan performance.

  • M6-1084CA Slow WLAN card, replacement?

    Hi,
I just purchased a Pavillion M6-1084CA notebook yesterday, brought it home to my delight and began setting it up.
I noticed the laptop seemed to be downloading quite a bit slower than my 2.5 year old Gateway it is supposed to be replacing.
I saw the WiFi was only connected at 65Mbps and after some digging around came to find out the WLAN card in the notebook is single stream only and seems to only support 72Mbps tops, which is unacceptable for me.
My old notebook connects at a solid 300MBps and I have a fiber line into my home so the 65 Mbps is an actual handicap.  I routinely download at 8-8.5 mb/s over WiFi on my old laptop and I refuse to accept 4 mb/s downloads on a brand new machine which is supposed to last me another 2 to 3 years, it's why I pay for high-end internet service to my home.
Anyway, I did some digging through the support manual but didn't find a card that would connect at 300Mbps.  Is such a card even supported on HP laptops?  If not the notebook is heading back to the store asap and I'll pick up something else.
Has anyone else had success in replacing the card with one that isn't so slow?  Keeping in mind I also want to keep bluetooth on the thing.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I guess you will have to return it.
I agree with you that after looking at the service manual, none of the supported cards are dual band.
The only cards that can be installed in any HP notebook are the ones listed in the service manual and they must also have the HP part number on them or they will not work.
HP locks out any unsupported cards in the BIOS (called a whitelist).

  • Frequent WLan disconnections on Equium M40X-230

My laptop suffers frequent disconnections from the internet and it is getting very annoying. Situation is the laptop connects wirelessly to the net via a Belkin router. The router is working ok, and I use Aol for ISP.
Our second laptop, also a Toshiba but a Sattelite A30-203 does not suffer the problems despite using the same router.
Both laptops have service pack 2 on and the M40 is mobile centrino whilst the Sattelite has a wireless adaptor card installed (also Belkin).
If I watch the connection speed it varies between 54mbps and 1mbps and still says that the signal strength is excellent no matter what the speed is.Does this mean the problem lies with the laptop or its settings, or does it need chipset drivers to be upgraded?
Any help would be appreciated as the slow performance especially when loading pages on the net is driving me daft.

    Hi
You should know that there are different WLan standards which supports different properties.
The standards are 802.11 A, B or G. At this time the wireless 802.11 G standard supports the fastest connection.
The best combination is the using of the router and Wlan card which supports the same standard.
You have suggested that the Satellite A30 uses the Belkin WLan adapter. I assume there is the best compatibility between Belkin router and Belkin WLan card. Therefore you will get the best performance.
However, on your Equium you should check the WLan card properties. There you should find some options which could increases the card and connectivity performance.
Important: The power saving option should be disabled in the card properties. Try also to set the WLan range to the highest level.
Additionally its advisable checking the WLan card driver updates. If you use a Intel WLan card check the Intel page for updates.

  • Portg R830-1DR PT321E-0G401EFR - Slow Wlan

    Hello,
I have a question about the wifi on my pc when I connect to the internet I feel the speed is slow,
I looked in the settings and I found an application "Intel my wifi"
when I activates the connection improves!
I am a novice in computer science, the question is what is normal or pc is not good because it cost me my life?

    Hi
Intel MY WIFI is a new wireless technology from Intel. It makes the computer's wireless adapter work concurrently as an adapter and a wireless router.
The software allows the computer's built in WLan chip to create a separate Wi-Fi personal Area Network (PAN). This network allows you to connect up to eight other Wi-Fi clients to connect to it, while the computer is still connected to a separate access point.
This means you can connect the notebook to WLan and at the same time you can connect an smartphone to the notebook in order to share the internet connection.
Here are some info about this new technology from Intel:

  • Time Capsule Slow WLAN to internal disk with internet data transfers

    All,
I've been experiencing slow responses from my Time Capsule since I got it. It is one of the newer models with dual band and I have a Macbook Pro and a Macbook connecting to the 802.11n network.
I use the internal disk of the Time Capsule as a NAS and I don't use it for Time Machine backups. It houses software, pictures and music files.
When I'm downloading files from the internet via Safari, or via Transmission (torrents) the wifi throughput of the WLAN slows down from about 5 megabytes per second to just a couple of hundred kilobytes per second.
For my tests I used a 2.2Gb DMG file (a Garageband Jampack) which was housed on the Time Capsule disk.
With Transmission running and downloading two torrents and seeding two torrents (capped upload of 2 kilobytes per second), the transfer of the file from the Time Capsule was 4 hours. I let it run a few hours just to determine that the ETA in Finder was fairly accurate.
With Transmission stopped, the transfer of the same file took 9 minutes.
With Transmission stopped but with Safari downloading a large file (400mb), the local Time Capsule file download to my Mac was again looking at around 4 hours.
It also impacts file uploads to the Time Capsule disk but no where near as badly as with downloads. According to activity monitor, throughput from the Time Capsule disk to my Mac over Wifi is around 200 kilobytes per seconds, writing to the Time Capsule was around 900 kilobytes per second.
Both upload and download speed increases dramatically when no internet based file transfers are taking place.
Now the odd thing. I have a TVIX 6500a media player attached to the Time Capsule via gigabit ethernet. In all the tests I've performed (using the same DMG file) the data transfer rate, both reading and writing to the TVIX has always been solid at nearly 5 megabytes per second.
It is almost like the Time Capsule prefers internet originated traffic over WLAN traffic to its own internal disk, and really throttles this traffic. And it lets traffic originating from other devices on the network through on all cylinders.
I know technically a Time Capsule is designed for Time Machine however I can't see how it would be a viable solution given the bad data rates when downloads are taking place.
Is there any way to get under the hood of a Time Capsule to make some adjustments? I wonder if anyone else has had any experience with this, and what might happen if I plug in a USB disk and use that instead. It is starting to look like I might have to get a decent NAS to connect to the Time Capsule but then it is just a larger heavier Airport Extreme.
    Thanks in advance.

    Mikecad1 -
I dont have any assistance to offer, but have experienced similar problems.
When trying to offload all my music from an external drive to a Time Capsule, it was estimating WEEKS to do it. Even with the HD connected right to the Time Capsule. It's like the WLAN wanted all traffic to go out then come back in before being written.
My solution in that case was to disconnect my laptop from the WLAN, with the drive hooked up to it via USB and then Cat5 to the Time Capsule and do a direct transfer like that. 2 hours instead of weeks.

  • Satellite A200: Slow WLAN speed with Atheros AR5007EG

    Hi there,
I recently bought an Satellite A200 with an Atheros 5007eg wireless lan adapter. I am using Vista. And i'm using a d-link router.
    My problem is the following:
Somehow, when I download it only produces 1/4th of the speed I get when i connect it directly to my modem... Ive tried downloading new drivers, but no help there.
Can someone help me pls? I already talked to toshiba NL, they told me to send it to them, they had it for three weeks and then sent it back without doing anything.

As far as I know an BIOS and the Atheros driver update should clear this issue.
A friend of mine has the same notebook and he has updated the both mentioned thing and it works great.
The BIOS update you will find on the Toshiba European driver page and the Atheros WLan driver here:

  • Qosmio X770-13G - Slow WLan internet connection

    Dear all,
    I just bought a Qosmio X770-13G with Windows 7.
WIFI data transfer is very slow, even when using a high speed AP (tried it on more than one location) and after disabling the anti-virus program.
Using the Config Free program shows 6Mbps second download speed but even downloading a 4 Mb PDF file takes several minutes.
Updating the BIOS software and the WLAN driver did not help.
Does anybody have the same experience?
    Thanks in advance,
    John

Yes, it does. And a new development yesterday evening shed new light on this problem: In addition to using a couple of known AP's I tried connecting to new AP's. Result: a data transfer speed as expected. So it seems I dont have to look into faulty hardware but into connection problems with certain AP's. I guess my original problem (suspicion of faulty hardware) is no longer an issue. Thanks for the reply.

  • Why Equium notebook has no own forum?

Having just bought my first new Toshiba (I've had several 2nd hand ones and liked 'em) - an Equium L20-198 - I thought I'd have a look at this site. I discover each range has a own forum, except the Equium, which I guess must therefore reside in the "Other Notebooks" forum. So, what's the problem, Toshiba, the Equium not good enough to have a own forum? Same with searching for additional memory - checking under 512MB DDR2 (533MHz) Memory Upgrade (which I believe, but am not certain, is what I need) I discover the Equium isn't listed anywhere - very unhelpful to put it mildly.

    Hi Cole
I agree with you about Equium forum. We can just hope that moderator will create the Equium forum in near future.
    Info about additional memory:
Your notebook can handle with 2GB of RAM and compatible RAM modules are
    DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25)
    DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)
    DDR2-400/533 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G)

  • Slow WLAN

    Hey guys,
I've just did a fresh install of arch.
Now my problem is that my wlan seems to be extremely slow even though my signal is at 95%.
Iam using ndiswrapper and never had problem doing so on other distros.
    Any suggestions?
I've googled around but haven't found a solution
Oh ya, my connection is fine, I've tested with another desktop comp.

Maybe the power saving feature is enabled.
    Try iwconfig wlan0 power off.
Sometimes my wifi becomes slow too. A reboot always fixes it. Just reconnecting might be worth a shot too.

  • Question about Memory Slots on Equium notebook

I am putting in more Memory and the Manufacturer tells me to put the largest capacity Memory module in Socket No "0"
Can somebody please tell me how I will know which one is "0" and which is "1"
I have taken 512 MB module out of right hand stack and put in new 2GB Memory module. This gives me 512Mb in Left and 2GB in right.

    Hi David
Usually its no matter what memory module was placed in the single slot
The notebook should recognize both without any problems
    But back to your question;
The slots should be marked as 0 and 1. You should find these numerals somewhere near to the slots but once again you can use both modules in different slots ;)
    Best regards

  • Test bed : WLC makes slow WLAN speed vs. Autonomous

    Hi experts,
User complint very slow download speed (~140kbps) compare to wire around ~50mbps. Those are too different.
So I move out from the production, then did my own test.
I tested on seperated environment, seperated AP(1130)/switch/ WLC(7.0)/PC client with Windows file sharing. Then compare againt STANDALONE AP. All are flat configure without any Auth etc.
Result are, standalone AP is winner = 5MB/sec while WLC based is only 1MB/sec. Then I also try to do LOCAL SWITCHING (H REAP) to diable tunneling that could make some delay. Result is the same, no improvement.
I also find out for cisco support forum. Much many discussions ask us to disable feature such Client exclude, MFP, Aironet IE and tune for a/b/g supported.
What else to tune or aware of ?
Please do me a suggestion. Thank you.
    Nipat.p

    David,
Do you mean Static&Dynamic CH? I used default WLC's setting (Dynamic, DCA)?
Anyway, my testbed is using only 1 AP in 2 scenarios WLC-based vs. Autonomous at the same location.
I also asked from the others end user who is using WLC. Windows file share speed is also around 1-2.4MB/sec. So poor!!!
Then, What else for WLC parameter should I take care of? I got a slot to re-test by tomorow.

  • Satellite M100: Slow WLan data transfer with 3945ABG Intel Wlan card

Have just popped a brand new M100 with XP upgraded to SP2 onto our network and am having trouble with the Wifi.
Everything works, just really really slowly. Takes about 5 minutes to drag an MP3 off the file-server, web pages download at the speed of a dial-up modem and my beard doubles in length waiting for even a modest flash file to load.
Have tried the following so far...
    - Speed is good on the ethernet cable, just not on the wifi.
    - Connection speed is good on the wifi (11Mbps) and signal strength is excellent.
    - All other laptops on the network are working fast
    - I have updated the drivers to the latest provided by intel, no change
    - I have applied all service packs and updates to XP (was a brand new box yesterday)
    - Disabling various modes on the driver make no difference
    - Switching off the QoS mode in the network panel doubled the trickle of data
I see from earlier posts that I'm not the only one who has had this problem with the Intel 3945ABG chips, but I don't see a solution posted. Has anyone had success is solving this kind of problem.
The data throughput is barely usable for internet access and quite inoperable for LAN filesharing or Skype.

Sounds weird. If PCMCIA WLan card gives you good speed it means that there is nothing wrong with your Internet connection, just with built-in wlan card.
You probably should use your warranty services or better yet to return it to the shop and get a new one straight away.
In my country if something brakes within a few days after purchase you don't need to send it to repair under warranty because the shop usually agrees to replace it with new one if they have it in stock.
There is one thing I think you better try: Take it to your friend who has wireless network or to the nearest free hot spot, connect to internet from there and see what speed you get.
It could be, though longshot, that your router has compatibility issues with this specific built-in wlan card.
For example I also have a slight compatibility issue between my d-link router and built-in intel wlan card, but it is about security protocols and not the speed.
Overall it seems to me that this intel wlan card is not that good.

  • Safari and Firefox much slower than my old Windows notebook

I'm a new Mac user. I have a new MacBook late 2008, OS 10.5.8. Loading web pages is much slower on the mac than my 3 year old Windows XP machine. My former router was a LinkSys, now I have a brand new Airport Extreme.
It works the same way on any network, home or elsewhere. I've tried fixing disk permissions. I can go to Google for example, click on a new page and wait up to 8-10 seconds for the new page to load. The bar at the bottom of the page shows activity.
I'm using the Windows machine to surf now, until I can get this figured out.
I'd greatly appreciate any help. My Macbook is great other than for web.
    Thank you.

    Sig and others,
Thanks for your comments. This is getting a little scary for a rookie. Is this something I can safely do with no knowledge on networking, etc? That's kind of why I bought a mac. Is there an Apple Support document or thread that will guide a new user on this kind of issue. I'm still using the old PC laptop for web because of the speed issue.
The support guys at the retailer are blowing me off... PC vs Mac kind of deal.
    Thanks for your help.
