Slow YouTube streaming videos

Why is my iPad 2 slow at streaming YouTube videos? When I use my iPod touch under the same wi-fi network, it seems that it is faster than the iPad 2.

I have the same problem, my ipad3 was really fast, now it takes 3 days to download one episode of whale wars (40 min programme) and the internet connection is on and off. My Thinkpad is on the same WiFi network and is fast as ever (fiber optic).
Really bad, I almost binned the thing last night, it is now a very expensive photo frame. I have not used Apple products since 1996 and I thoiught I would have a go with the new Ipad. Clunky and unreliable as ever.

  • Slow, jerky streaming video on G4 iMac

I am running Leopard 10.5.3 with no problems on a 1GHz G4 iMac with 1 gig of RAM. However, streaming video is virtually unwatchable: it is always slow and jerky. My internet connection is a steady 6.5 mbps down.
Any suggestions on how I can make streaming video watchable?
    Thanks. . .

Streaming video from over the internet isn't going to tax your video card.
It's going to be either the broadband connection, the wireless, or the CPU struggling with an advanced video codec like H264.
The MDD starts to struggle at about 1500kbps video/audio in H264 decompression. If you have any other processes running (like Spotlight Indexing in OSX 10.4 and 10.5 - which is a real killer just after a fresh install) then you're even more severely limited, perhaps 1300kbps.
Sustained AirPort 'b' (for MDD) tops out at about 4000kbps with a perfect signal. The advertised 11Mbps is theoretical and something close may only be possible in a burst mode. Even if your wireless strength is perfect, there may be interference that will cut throughput in half, then half again.
Don't know your broadband connection, but ISPs here in the UK use "traffic shaping", cutting back on our 8Mbps throughput to little more than 2Mbps, sometime less during busy periods (evenings, weekends, if you live in a primarily residential area).
If any of these areas force your throughput to drop below the rate at which the TV show in encoded, you get jumpy video and/or audio.

  • Slow Youtube Streaming

    Hi Guys.
Does anyone have a problem with Youtube streaming?
Since day one 9 time out of 10 my appletv has trouble streaming from youtube where it will stop and start as it catchers up then it will just stop all together.
Both with wireless and ethernet, even worse wireless.
Youtube streams fine on the other macs in the house wireless. Very strange.

I have a Linksys Router and the only thing I see is a Multicast filtering under security settings, which by the way is under security settings. I don't see nothing about bit rates.
Can you help me? Because I have the same problem with loading YouTube videos. It stops in the middle and sometimes the play don't even starts, after the blue line in the bottom has started and stoped after a while.

  • 1080p Youtube Streaming Videos

I do not live close to an Apple store and the Mac store in my town only had an 11" floor model.
I know that the 1.4GHz 11" will not play youtube 1080p videos smoothly.
Does anyone know if the 1.6GHz 11" or the 1.86GHz 13" or the 2.1GHz 13" can play 1080p youtube videos. The video I have been trying to play is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9vAOzYz-Qs&fmt=37
I want to buy a macbook air but I want it to play 1080p youtube videos. I hope one of them can.

Looks pretty darn good on my 11.6"1.4 2GB system. I have the 128 GB storage option. I tested it on Safari and Chrome on OSX, and IE, Safari and Chrome on Windows 7. A few points I would make though:
    1. Looks best output to a 1080P display via HDMI (no scaling impact)
    2. I am running Flash v10.1 r85
    3. I have found videos that show an ever so slight frame drop(very watchable), notably the nVidia Pure Video 1080p Test.
For as often as I intend to use the system this way, I can live with it.

  • Youtube streaming video

    Hi all,
I'm not exactly sure where I should be posting this so apologises if people think it shouldn't be here !
My problem is with watching video's on Youtube in either Firefox or Safari.
Basically I, mostly, get the sound OK but the picture play back is extremely jerky and many seconds behind the sound.
I appreciate that this is a very generic problem and there could be any number of reasons why this is happening but I would've thought that my ageing Mac should still be able to cope with this !
Are there any basic things that I need to ensure are set correctly within OSX, Safari or Firefox to at least give me a fighting chance at getting the video clips to run smoothly.
Many thanks for any help / suggestions.
    Nick

An e-friend who had the same issue with Panther 10.3.9 but did not wish to
upgrade to Tiger 10.4.11 (and other parts associated with that) has applied
Adobe Flash player and Shockwave player, & Camino 1.6.10 - then Youtube
and other web-based items appear to work. - Some content may need the
newer Quicktime player in association with a browser, too.
That is the short path. The two Adobe players require the correct version
for use in Panther (not using the most recent in this old system) and ones
already in the computer need to be removed prior to installing newer ones.
There are Uninstallers for both of the Adobe players involved; these utilities
should work in Panther 10.3 OK. Browsers need to be off when this is done.
    The Camino browser is the most easily accomplished of these items;
at http://caminobrowser.org for the last version, which supports 10.3.9.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Safari shuts down on Streaming Video (AVI or WMV)

Any time I go to a site that have streaming video (other than YouTube), Safari and Foxfire will lock up and shut down. It seems to happen when the video being streamed is an AVI or WMV file. I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Mac OS. It would just go to the page and sit there and I could go back a page, now it locks up and shuts down. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
YouTube streams video using the Flash plugin. Try uninstalling then reinstalling a new copy of the Flash Player plugin.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • Mac Mini 2011 Fan is Noisy During Streaming Video

Mac mini 2011 2.3 GZ. When I watch Youtube streaming video fullscreen or video chat with someone on Skype, the fan kicks into high gear and gets really noisy. Fan gets to about 5200 rpm and CPU up to 75C. I don't get the heat or fan noise during avi/Quicktime/VLC playback, or an Skype, audio alone. I don't recall this on my 2009 Mac Mini. Is this normal?
Only variable is an 8 gigabyte RAM upgrade.

It's possible that hardware accelleration is not
enable for Adobe Flash.  Right click on the You
Tube window and check the Flash Player settings.

  • Choppy/Slow streamed videos on both Firefox and Chrome

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that was recently turned off for two weeks while I was on vacation. When I turned it back on and tried to watch videos online (youtube, Netflix, streamed videos) the videos are choppy and slow to load. This was never a problem before turning of the computer for the two weeks. I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox and the problem happens on both. When viewing the Activity Monitor while attempting to watch the videos the CPU usage is fine for the first 20 seconds or so and then Chrome or Firefox take on 80-90-over 100% of the CPU usage, a majority of the usage is from the system (in red) and the videos become untwatchable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers and have disbaled all the extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight for Netflix and have uninstalled all unused versions of Adobe Flash player. There are no problems with video when I watch a DVD. Help! I want to watch videos again

having same problem since mac os x 10.6 upgrade, but was never issue prior... have tried everything i can think of, new flash players, reinstalling players, reboots of computer and router... to no avail. since this was never an issue for me prior to upgrading to Mac OS X (10.6.8), i believe its the os software.

  • Streaming video on youTube

My neighbor gave me an eMac for my 9 yr old daughter to use. I upgraded it to OS 10.4.11 and it works fine except for watching streaming videos. Both Quicktime and Flash stutter in Safari, but since I've reinstalled Quicktime it works only on Firefox. I cannot watch Youtube or Yahoo Trailers on either Safari and Firefox. I've reinstalled Flash a half dozen times, including the newest version- and an earlier 9.0.277.0 version--but the video still stutters. I've tried resetting the Pram and fixed permissions as well.
My internet connection is good, my MacBook Pro plays everything.
Is something interfering with the Flash and Quicktime? Anything else I can try?

    OS 10.4.11

    1GB SDRAM
    Safari v. 4.1.2
    Quicktime v.7.6.4
    Thank you,
    Ayse Francis

    Hi Ayse,
Issues with Internet connection speeds aside, I am afraid that the age and speed of your eMac is what is causing your stuttering issues when streaming video and YouTube. Your eMac is just not up to the challenge. Plus, YouTube uses video codecs that are designed to run on more recent, modern computers.
Your eMac's CPU and, especially, the eMac's bulit-in video card are just not able to handle the type of content and codecs that a lot of streaming video sites use now. And, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the issues are from the fact that the the highest Mac OS X version you can run is OS X 10.4 Tiger. Your eMac is 6 years old and your OS version is 4 years old.
I have single 1.25 Ghz CPU with a fairly speedy video card and 2 GBs of RAM running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard on a DSL connection and I can watch streaming video in MP4 format from YouTube, but my Mac struggles, sometimes, with 720p HD videos from YouTube and can't play 1080p videos at all.
You could try and wait and load a good chunk of the video before streaming it or use a program like MacTubes to actually download YouTube content and watch it directly from your eMac without streaming it.
You may find these latter procedures may help make the experience of watching videos on your eMac a better experience.

Also, when I try to close firefox and restart it, the process doesn'y get killed with the normal Command + Q in Mac.
I need to use Force Quit instead.

Try updating Flash. You appear to be running an older version dating from September 2010 which might be the cause of the problem. Download from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
If the problem persists after updating, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
