Slowing down audio?

I've been searching the forums, but can't find a clear answer.
If I record an audio track (or a few audio tracks), am I able to manipulate the tempo to what I want--ie, make it as fast or slow as I want?
Thanks for the help!

With Logoc 7.1, which cost $20 dollars to upgrade from 7.0, you are able to "follow tempo" with audio tracks. There is a parameter in the upper left corner of the track in the arrange window where you can select "follow tempo" This only works if the audio was RECORDED in 7.1. If audio was recorded in 7.0, there will be no parameter available, however you can BOUNCE that track, thereby creating a new audio file with that parameter available. The pitch is retained but there are audible artifacts which as far as I am concerned render the audio unacceptable. Sort of a warbling effect. I use this parameter only to keep the audio as a guide if I decide on changing tempos, whereby I will re record the tracks again.

  • How do you slow down audio files?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if there is a way that you can slow down audio (not midi) in Logic. I really need that ability so I can start transcribing a lot of pieces for my music lessons...
If Logic doesn't have anything like that, is there a free software I could download (that is NOT one of those trial ones that only play 3 min of the song or can't export)? If it costs somethin', which one is cheapest but has good enough quality?
    Cheers, thanks!

Have you tried to use the Time and Pitchmachine within the Sample Editor of Logic. To a certain degree you could certainly slow it down. If youre not happy with that, you probably would have to use another software or buy a third party plugin (like serato's pitch n' time)...

  • Slow down audio for language learning

My students want to decrease the speed of audio mp3 files for language learning purposes. How can this be done in iTunes on the following devices?
    (a) on a Mac
    (b) on Windows
    (c) on an iPhone
    (d) on an iPod
    (e) on any other mp3 player you can name
If not iTunes, in another player?

Thanks, Kappy. Those desktop apps would be too pricey for my language learners. I use Audacity for this and other purposes, but it may require more steps than they can handle or have patience for.
They want to slow down audio files on their handheld devices. I see you can speed up a podcast 1x - 2x, but I don't see that you can slow it down.
Your suggestions pointed me in the right direction to search for an iPhone/iPad app. For any of you musicians and

  • Slowing down audio so the pitch slows down too.

Hey everyone what’s the easiest way to slow wav files o that their pitch is also slowed down as well?
Someone previously suggested loading the sound into the EXS24 but how do I do this? When I drag the audio on that track it doesn’t seem to affect it so how do I actually import it in?
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Hi-pitched noise on slowed down audio track

I'd like to increase the levels on an audio track that I've slowed down to 50% but I am prohibited from doing so because of a resultant hi-pitched background noise that seems to occur due to the speed change. I tried using a couple of the FCP audio filters (the ones for 'hum remover' and 'high pass filter') - does anyone have any suggestions for this problem? Using FCP 5.0.4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Jim,
Thanks for pointing out that filters could be applied prior to the speed change. I did just try out your possible solution, using both of the filters that I previously mentioned, but the problem remains.
Again - thanks for offering a solution though.

  • Slowed down Audio

I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4033 laptop. More than year ago my laptop developed this audio problem where it will play the audio at a ridiculously slow pace. For example it would take a second of any audio and instead of playing it a second, it would slow the audio and play that 1 second peice over the span of 10 seconds (it really just ends up soundin like if the laptop is becoming some sort of cyborg. At first it didn't happen very often so i let it be. Now it happens 2-3 times in any form of audio. Note: Whenver theres audio involved with visuals (ex: youtube, games) whenever the audio is slowed down, so is the video visuals. This is becoming an increasingly painful problem for myself. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
Note: I went to device manager and went under sound, video and found out that it is run by Conexant SmartAudio HD (not sure if this helps)

I've noticed that sometimes theres breaks in the music and pauses, is that a seperate problem on top of what I have or is it the same problem?
    I certainly wouldn't know.
As I said, if you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and the problem remains, you'll know it's due to hardware.

  • Trouble Slowing Down Audio Files Using QuickTime.

Hello. I am currently using QuickTime to listen to audio files. Some of these file are so fast that I need to slow them down to hear everything. However, when I click the "Slow Down" button that is located at the top of my player, the files continue to play at the same speed.
I have tried downloading the most recent version of the QuickTime player, and I still have the same issue. Any advice on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link through to your Drivers and Downloads page at Dell:

Probably best to enter your Service Tag (don't tell us what it is). Then you'll just see updates applicable to your particular configuration of C840. (Componentry can vary "within" a particular model, not just from model to model. So not all the updates I can see there will necessarily apply to your particular system.)

can you slow audio just a bit with a quick key to check an editing point before cutting?

Logic 9 has speed fades that achieve this very easily. Plugins like Amazing slow downer could do this.

  • Slowing down audio conitnuously

    Hi all,
Here's my situation: I have an audio clip, which I would like to change. My goal is to have the clip be slowed continuously to a crawl. I understand (for the most part) how to use the Time and Pitch Machine. To achieve the effect I want using the Time and Pitch Machine would require me to create several time and pitch changes per second. Unfortunately, that is not within the limits of my attention span. Thusly, to assuage this intimidating workload, I'd like to know if there's an easy way to make this happen.
    Thanks in advance.

    I must contradict.
You can make curves in the global tempo track:
    http://www.foxboy.de/tempofade.png
Just mark two tempo change points.
Then move the mouse a litttle above the tempo change point so that it changes into a pointing finger. Then you can drag the curve.

  • Recording with audio playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into real time?

Ive recorded a test video with audio/music playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into "real" time?
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 50% I would make the video 100% faster.
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 100% I would make the video 200% faster.
So its obviously somewhere inbetween speeding up by 100-200%
Sorry but its melting my brain today and I cant remember the calculation.
    thanks

    hey all
Thanks for the advise on this. I will explain a little more what am have/am intending to do.
I have used Audacity to slow the song down (Effect>Change Tempo)
Audacity will allow me slow the original song down by up to 99% (Or anything in-between up to 3 decimal places)
Unfortunately I am working to a time restraint of 12 minutes per clip (as my DSLR will only allow up to a 12 minute clip).
The song at normal speed is 4 minutes long.
Originally I slowed the audio down by 50% (Making the audio 8 minutes long), lip synced to it using a rasta blaster and recorded the video using my DSLR at 720p 50fps.
I then imported the video and audio I had been lip syncing to into FCPX.
I sped up the video by x2 (equivalent to speeding it up 200%)
    Retime>Fast 2X
Layered the PROPER normal speed audio back over the top and all was fine.
    Test video complete.
(You can ignore the 65% slowed down audio I mentioned earlier if you like, that was just an example of a slower than 50% audio test)
Firstly what I really want to do is to be able to slow the AUDIO down as much as possible (But still within the restraints of only being able to adjust FCPX retiming within a whole 1 percentage in the final video edit), but have the AUDIO of the song as near to/under 12 minutes as possible.
I will then re-record the video again to this new slowed down audio.
Secondly I will speed up the video from 12 minutes to 4 minutes.
Thirdly I will layer the correct 100% Normal AUDIO on top.
The FINISHED video should then look like everyone is wizzing around at high speed but the guitar playing/lyrics look like they are being played/sung at the normal speed.
Whatever happens (due to the constraints of FCPX) I need the calculations to work so that FCPX is retimed exactly to a whole 1% for the final video to sync up correctly.
So what I need to know in a nut shell is:-
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage to slow a 4 minute song down to a 12 minute song?
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage of how much I need to then speed the 12 minute video up to turn it back into a 4 minute video?
    My mind is melting

You need to turn off the Zoom accessibility feature.  Tap the screen twice with three fingers to get to normal screen. Then go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn Zoom off.  You can also do that by connect the computer to iTunes and going to the Summary pane for the iPod and go to Configure Universal Access.

  • Importing audio files without slowing down site?

Being new to mac and iweb, i have found that with my photo gallery web site that when i attach an audio file to play when a certain page is viewed that my site load time is dramatically slowed down.
Anybody know how to speed it up?

The files used in those flash player examples are just the mp3 files from iTunes. You upload them to the Music folder on your iDisk (or to a folder on your server), copy the code from the demo page, paste into an HTML snippet, get the URL to each audio file and you;re ready to go.http://discussions.apple.com/images/status/ball-05.gif
With iTunes I suppose you could reduce the bit rate and sample rate to lower the file size but that will reduce the audio quality. You can do the same with more control with Audacity, a free audio editing application. If you take the time to learn how to use an HTML snippet you'll get superior results.

  • Last section of audio is being slowed down and distorted in Captivate 5

I have recorded a series of mini software demos in Captivate 5 (all saved as separate files) and then imported audio on top of the demos split over several slides.
I have then created a master demo and copied all of the slides from the mini demos in to the one master. It seems that in copying the slides from the original files to the master something is happening to the audio..
The audio on the individual slides plays correctly, however when played from the master, the last part of the audio on the last section of the slide copied over is slowed right down.
This has happened on a number of the individual demos copied over, and I have no idea why this is happening.
I have tried deleting the audio out of the master and re-copying the individual components but each time exactly the same occurs

My apologies!  I should have read your post more carefully. My bad.
    This is a wierd issue.
What happens if you export the audio files out of the original demos, then import that audio into the master as individual files, and then insert these imported clips into their relevant slides?  Is the audio still slowing down near the end?

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.
