SLOWLY loading pages

I've been having a problem recently in which my web pages will load very slowly. The blue loading indicator in Safari seems to get "stuck" at the very beginning of loading a page, then will get unstuck, but then load slowly.
I've tried clearing the cashe, installing Broadband Optimizer, etc. Any other ideas? It's kind of annoying. I have both Airport Express and Airport Extreme running.
Joel

That would help to rule out stealing, but it may still be an issue with your ISP. Are they having issues?
Is your AirPort connection strong? Have you tried resetting your Base Station? Your modem? (I have to do that with RoadRunner every few weeks.)
I'm almost out of ideas, Joel. Connectivity isn't a strong suit.

Several weeks ago Firefox suddenly was / is very slow to load all pages. I launch Firefox. Wait. Launch Safari. Safari loads page while I am still waiting for Firefox.
    Why?

Do you use NoScript? There's possibly an issue with NoScript where certain settings cause Firefox to load HTTPS pages on startup very slowly.

Thank you for the link, but I am not sure how this is going to help me: I am not booting straight to an X session, but prefer to log into TTY1 and have my login shell handle everything from there.
Here is the relevant part of my .zprofile:
    if (( UID )); then
    [[ -z $DISPLAY && $XDG_VTNR -eq 1 ]] && exec systemd --user
    fi
As far as I understand, your method works if I enable the [email protected] template when actually booting straight to X.

  • LSP causes firefox to load pages very slowly

I'm a developer for a company that produces content filtering software. Our filtering component is an LSP that monitors network traffic. For some time now, we've been experiencing periodic issues with Firefox and our LSP.
This is not a crash, and Firefox is not frozen. But when you try to load a page, Firefox comes to a point where it just spins trying to access the same socket over and over again. Clearly our LSP is doing something that Firefox doesn't like, but eventually Firefox breaks out of the spinning and loads the page.
I'd like to know if there is someone involved with Firefox development that I can communicate with to resolve this issue.

    Hi coverton,
    I did pm you:
You may not easily see this. Initially I do no want to answer your question on the forum, as an answer may then deter others from replying. This is not something that I understand but my suggestions are:
you say for some time you have had a problem <br>
if this is a Firefox regression which version did it occur on <br>
file a bug on bugzilla https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi#h=dupes|Firefox
<br> or you may in fact find it is a known issue, an example of a bug fixed in Firefox 13 is
<br>Bug 712363 - SSL connections do not work correctly when not managed by the socket transport service (including especially when the socket is not non-blocking)
<br>have a look through the mailing lists and forums you may find a useful one http://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/
<br>also consider looking on the various mozillazine forums http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php
This sort of problem is probably slightly outside the range of problems we attempt to solve on this forum.
My view is that basically if the problem clearly does not exist in one version of firefox, but does from a certain later version then there was some sort of change, and if that was not intentional it is a regression and appropriate to file a bug for. <br/> ( If the change was intentional there will almost definitely be a bug filed documenting the change. )
If you do post a bug suggestions would be
    * First try it in the latest nightly just in case the problem was fixed. http://nightly.mozilla.org/
*Try to narrow down a regression window,<br/>so please test in Firefox 10 and 11.
*There is a tool for narrowing down regressions by automatically downloading a bissected range of Nightly builds and running them in turn with a dialogue to confirm or otherwise that there is a problem (last time I tried the tool I had a problem with it but it was probably user error, or is now fixed )
    ** see https://github.com/mozilla/mozregression
Obviously you will need to rule out that it is due to changes in third party software, and to demonstrate the problem you will need some reproducible steps, so it could be appropriate to try discussing the problem on a forum in order to build some sort of test case prior to filing a bug.
As you have asked here it would be useful to know what happens so please post back if you file a bug or find a forum or mailing list that provides a solution.
    Good Luck
P.S. <br/> I note you filed '''''Bug 756216 - LSP Causes Firefox to Load pages slowly '''''

  • Safari is Loading Pages Extremely Slowly

Ever since this morning Safari is so slow as to be useless.  My internet connection is fine, Chrome and Firefox load pages at a normal speed, downloads are fast, all of that.  But in Safari... I typed www.google.com and waited MINUTES for the page to load.
I've used the Reset feature that clears everything out.  I've quit the program and relaunched.  Rebooted.  Let the computer sit off all day.  No change.
Out of ideas and using Chrome as my primary browser, but would like Safari back.  I'll take any and all suggestions!
    Version 6.0.4 (8536.29.13)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari version 5.1.2 keeps loading pages slowly and eventually freezing. Any ideas on what the problem is?

I recently updated safari to version 5.1.2. And now all the time it loads everything frustratingly slow and then eventually freezes with the spinning wheel icon, forcing me to restart the computer (MacBook pro 2009). I am running Mac OSX Lion latest version.

    Several things to try...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Deselect: Enable plug ins Quit then relaunch Safari. If Safari speeds up loading pages, troubleshooting help for > Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit, relaunch Safari.
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
Check for Login Items:  Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there. And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.  /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Firefox 12 is very slow to load pages and if two tabs are opening it lags.

Firefox 12 is very slow to load pages and if two tabs are opening it lags. I've tried everything (e.g virus, defrag, I've created a new profile in "run", etc). I've had my router/line etc all checked and after 2 weeks of cleaning/testing etc its all pointing to Firefox as the problem. Please help as it's driving me nuts.

I have the exact same problem.
Not only does it load pages very slowly, sometimes the page will stop for a good 45 seconds and stop loading, only to finish it much later.
Something is wrong with Firefox 12, it shouldn't be this slow.
How is that each version is progressively worse than the one before it?.
Stop releasing so many versions Mozilla, release one that works and build from there.

  • IWeb 09 any cleaner code?  Any faster loading pages?

Just wondering if iWeb 09 has improved in writing cleaner\faster code? Are the pages loading any more quickly than in earlier versions. I've got half a dozen fairly complicated sites done with whatever the last version of iWeb was before 09 ... I'm wondering if I rework them, reload and republish them with 09, whether I will see any improvement in end-user performance (faster-loading pages)?
    Ben

I have upgraded to iLife '09 seems that pages load EVEN slower than before! Especially on I.E. 6 and 7 browsers. I downloaded the trial of Maestro to see if that would help. No dice.
    Site after Maestro: http://www.only2degrees.com/kktmp/Only2Degrees/Home.html
you don't even want to know how much worse it was before I ran Maestro on it. .iWebSite.js seems to be what super-bloats this iWeb. I can remove it, but then it disables all the links and buttons.
the java script seems to just loop and loop and loop and loop and... well you get the picture, all through each page causing it to load slowly. I too at each new release of iWeb hope that Apple has heard us and fixed this problem. They have not. I call and they tell me they will look into it and report it, etc...
In an ideal world everyone would own a Mac and use Safari or FireFox as their browsers. But it's not ideal, sure wish there was a better way for those of us who don't hand code or have the time to hand code to be able to use iWeb or anything similar to create decent websites.
Any suggestions or answers would be awesome!

  • Safari & Firefox: Won't load pages with images

Everything was working fine one night, and then the next, I couldn't load any pages with graphics. The one caveat: Google loads without a problem, even a Google image search. Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs. Thoughts?
I've seen similar posts, but none of them really apply, and the only one that did, didn't have an answer.

Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs.
You're saying that, in addition to images not loading, pages are loading slowly or not at all, as well?
If this is the case, then the problem isn't isolated to images. It sounds more like a problem accessing web pages altogether.
As a troubleshooting measure, try setting fixed DNS addresses, either in your router's configuration or in System Preferences -> Network. For the latter, click on the network connection that you use, e.g. "Airport" or "Ethernet," then click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter a pair of fixed DNS addresses in the section with that label, as follows:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can copy and paste those directly from this forum into that DNS address field.
(Those are OpenDNS addresses, available for use by anyone. DNS addresses are the addresses of servers that tell your web browser where to look when you type a web page address in your web browser.)
If that doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. But your symptoms (slow or no page loads; and even when pages load, images not loading) sound a lot like the DNS problems I had before I started using alternate DNS addresses.

I can well imagine that they are.
I would backup, restore to factory settings, restore from the backup and then try again. If that fails, restore again but do not use the backup - restore as new. If the iPad functions OK as new, then slowly rebuild the iPad adding your apps, music etc, methodically to see if you can pin down what might be causing the problem.
if all of that fails, it's time to schedule an appointment at an Apple a Store (must be done online) and have them take a look, or of it is lees than two weeks old, just return it for a refund and buy another one.

  • Safari slow loading pages

I am wondering if I should test out Firefox, I have heard that it runs fast, but not sure how it compares to Safari. I have noticed that lately Safari is running very slow loading pages. I went to Macrumors.com and it took a good 30 seconds to get the screen to fully load. I am not sure if the fact that I am also backing up using TM and connecting wirelessly to my HD using AEBS is causing some slow down? Any ideas?

Just in case you have not received an answer. I have both Safari and Firefox on a August 2006 white 24" iMac (2GB RAM) with a medium speed DSL connection via ethernet to modem/router. Both load very slowly, often on the order of 25-30 seconds. This is true for opening the home page and for opening a bookmarked page once home page is reached. Apple Rumors for example, always takes a minimum of 30 sec. Mail also loads slowly. If I use the wireless connection, it takes somewhat longer to load a page in both Safari and Firefox.
I also run Parallels with Windows XP SP2 and Firefox on this machine. When I open Firefox in Windows, it takes about 5 seconds, sometimes 7 to reach home page and after that the same speed to open a bookmarked page.
I have a PC with Windows XP SP2 in the basement connected to the router/modem vis USB. Firefox opens a page in 5 seconds or less.
I'd like to replace this PC (it has screen freeze problems) with a new iMac, but am reluctant to surf at Safari speeds.

  • MacBook Core Duo will not load pages on known working router

I've got the original Core Duo black MacBook running OS 10.6.5 that's having problems with Wi-Fi. It will connect to networks at my school, but at home, it will connect (very slowly) to my Linksys G Router that works with my phone, my iPod touch, and my Early 2008 Aluminum iMac (OS 10.5.8), but it refuses to load web pages in Safari or Firefox, as well as it will not load the iTunes Store. If I turn on Internet Sharing at the iMac, I can use that signal to access the internet. This is not a distance issue as it has worked well in the past and the router is right next to the iMac I am using for Wi-Fi right now. I have had the issue before, but it wouldn't load pages from any Wi-Fi source, so I replaced the AirPort card with a genuine Apple 802.11N card, thus resolving that issue. I have tried resetting the router and the modem, but this has not helped.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you checked for firmware updates for the router?
If you connect to the router via Ethernet, can you get to the Internet without issue?
